[Chevelle-list] Internet Scam

2008-06-10 Thread Larry Hickman

Has anyone else seen this scam in your local paper ? A '69 Z28 Camaro w/ 85K
mi. and a good pic advertised for $4500. Obviously under priced. I googled the
# and the add shows up in at least 6 or 8 papers from across the country.
Included is an email address that sends back a generic reply that goes as
follows;

I'm glad that you're interested in my car. The car is street legal and
accurate. It comes with all the documents needed for registration, it has a
clear title and it can be registered into your name at any time. I am willing
to sell it for $4500 .This buy now price does include the shipping and
insurance fees. I'm located in
Portland, OR and the car is here as well and so this is where the car will be
shipped from. I've done some research and the best and fastest way I can ship
it is using Hemisphere cargo Shipping Ltd which takes between 4 to 6 days to
arrive at your door (door to door handling and shipping insurance fee
included). I am affiliated with Yahoo! Finance where I have a purchase
protection account for $ 10,000.00. This service allows us to complete this
transaction in a manner that is quick and safe for both of us. It acts as a
third party between seller and buyer to insure that both parties comply to
transaction requirements and provides dispute resolution and mediation between
parties. Yahoo! Finance is responsible to insure that both parties comply to
transaction requirements. If this is ok with you please reply with your
complete name, address and shipping address in your next email and let me know
if you are interested in knowing more details about this purchase so that I can
open a transaction case at Yahoo! Finance and move forward with this deal.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Black Radiator Water?

2008-06-10 Thread bad66chevelle454
The heater isn't hooked upand it wasn't before I bought the car. There is a
hose coming off the core, and I tried spraying water there, to see if I could
get the heater to work, and it looks like its plugged solid.

The oil is perfect, nice and clean, smells normalthat's why I was a little
stumped about this black water. But I'll drain/fill/run it a few times, and I
think that should clear up my problem.

Thanks everyone!

I agree with John. BUT I would hook up the heater and turn it on so as to flush
all out that may be settled in. How does your oil look? Smell? Check for any
trace of anti-freeze in the oil just to be sure you don't have a bigger problem.

?

-- Original message --
From: John Nasta [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I would drain it, fill w/ water (assuming you live in a place where it
doesn't freeze this time of year and are not taking any long hot trips
with it), run it around for the afternoon, drain it, repeat a few
times and see if it starts coming out cleaner. Could just be crud that
was sitting in the block and got flushed out when you started running
it. No point in putting anti-freeze in there until you flush the crud
out. I would change the hoses too. You may as well do that while
you're draining it. Can't hurt and they are inexpensive and easy to
 install.

Sounds like you found a fun car. What body style is it?

 Quoting vincent dilascio :

does it look like oil?? then again from sitting and a fresh we.p
you've got some crap moving round the flush idea and refill is a
great place to start--did you change thermostat-with flush would be
  a smart thing to do.

  Subject: [Chevelle-list] Black Radiator Water?

  Hey All,

A few months back I bought this 62 Cadillac. It had been sitting,
not running for roughly 7 years. Just about two weeks ago I got it
driving. I rebuilt the carb and water pump on it, and did a general
tune it. It runs like new, and I've driven it about 100 miles or so
this past week. Well this weekend I was checking the fluids on
it...I pulled the radiator cap, and the water was black. I stuck my
finger in there, and it looked like I stuck my finger in black
grease. The water was barely down. It doesn't run hot, on the gauge,
from C to H, its only about a quarter of the way up. When I rebuild
the water pump and all that, it wasn't black water.

What could cause that? The oil is nice and clean, no water in it.
The engine doesn't smoke. Could it be the old radiator hoses or
something? The heater isn't hooked up either.

Any ideas? I figure I'll flush it out, drive it some, then see if
  it happens again.

  Thanks,

  -Tim

2008-06-10 Thread John Nasta

If the heater core is bypassed, that probably means that it leaks (a lot).

I had the heater core bypassed on my El Camino for a few years, but
last fall I finally decided I wasn't going through another winter
without heat.

Looks like a nice ride. Slap a decent coat of paint on it and if the
interior is nice you could probably pick up a few $$ driving brides
and grooms around.

2008-06-10 Thread Mark and Brenda
I answered an add exactly like this about 6 months ago. Sounds like the
same car. It was for sale on one of those Internet classic cars for sale
sites. I asked to come and see it in person and never got a response.
Wanted me to pay 1/2 to that transaction company, she will then ship the car
and title where I pay the other 1/2 when I get the car. I then emailed her
back and advised her that I am a cop (which I am) and I would be
investigating her for Internet Theft. She cussed me out in a return email,
and I could never get in touch with her again. She or whoever it is has
been apparently doing this for awhile.

There isn't a dash bolt kit, but there is a interior screw kit. It comes with
the screws that attach the lower dash to the upper dash, but not the bolts.
There is about 8-10 screws, 2 bolts per side, a bolt in the middle, plus the
steering column nuts that hold the dash in.

Can't say if anyone makes screw kit for it. AIM only shows part numbers for
the screws. They are listed as #3846202 for the two screws that bolt to the
center brace rod, #3584940 nuts for the #9414764 screws that screw the top
and two sides plus other various screws for things like glove box, trim,

[Chevelle-list] Fwd: American Racing Wheels for Sale

2008-06-10 Thread bad66chevelle454

Hey List,

I still have these wheels for saleI'm dropping the price even more because
I want them gone!

I have two rims and tires for sale. American Racing CL 205's, 18x8, 4
backspacing. They have Nitto 555 tires, 285/35ZR18 in size. They are in mint
condition, but are used. They have approximately 500 miles on them. You can see
in the photos how spotless these are, even the backside of them.

I bought 6 of them off a guy, and now I'm selling the two that I dont need.
These were on the rear of his stock 1970 Chevelle, without any rubbing or
rolling the fender, so they will fit.

I'm asking?only $650?for the pair, I was asking $900. Just about 3 months ago
when I bought them off the guy, I paid $800 for them, so I'm taking a loss
here. I'd like to have a local pick-up, but I could ship them. I have no idea
what that would cost though, but I live in Moreno Valley, CA(by Riverside), my
zip code is 92555. I was quoted 1200 bucks at a local tire and wheel shop for
two of these rims with who knows what kind of tires. On Newstalgia wheels
website, its $1,187 for two rims and tires, and that doesnt include shipping.

Feel free to ask me any questions.

Perhaps if our punishment system was more drastic it would discourage this type

something, I’m just not sure which is better. They are both similar in price
but which one is better? Any pros or cons of one vs. the other. Thanks for any
input.

Vapor lock

Hi Guys,

Thanks to those who were big help when installing a new 2005 GMPP crate 350
in my 1965 Chevelle Malibu SS. It's been running perfectly for 6,000 miles
but twice in the last month refused to start after being driven more than
ten miles and stopped for 20 minutes.

It cranks fast but does not fire. Fuel comes from the accelerator pump and
the choke is open. I tried cranking ten seconds with the accelerator on the
floor and tried pumping a couple of times. No go.

After letting it sit 20 minutes with the hood open and the air cleaner off
it fires instantly. My guess is there is a temperature related ignition
problem but for every time it doesn't start it starts just fine dozens of
times.

Hi Rick,

No and it sounds like there is no spark, no sputter or response of any kind.
Both times it happened in the sun on a warm day with no diagnostic tools at
hand. I can cure that on the next outing.

Thanks,
Dennis

Have you checked for spark at the times it won't start?

Good thoughts from John. Maybe the needle is sticking open or float

Do you have an electric fuel pump? If so, it could be vapor lock. Even
if not, it still could be vapor lock but is less likely. Just a guess.

If leaving it sit w/ the air cleaner off helps it sounds like
flooding, in which case pumping the pedal will not help.

Have you tried letting it sit w/ the pedal to the floor or a
screwdriver holding both the choke and the throttle plate open? If
that works, it's also an indication that your engine is flooding and
needs to evaporate the excess fuel.

What CFM carb do you have? Maybe it's too big for the engine.

Oil filled coils that are installed sideways sometimes fail.

If there's a lack of spark when hot and you have points ignition, I
would suspect the coil.

Is there a resistor on HEI? I thought it was a straight 12V.

Hey Dennis,

A friend of mine had the same problem with his 66 Malibu after we left the
Nashville Speedway last year at Chevellabration. We stopped and ate at the
Sonic, thirty minutes later, the car wouldn't start. He believes now he has
located the problem with it being the resistor wire that he is using to fire
his HEI coil. He isn't sure yet, but before he heads out Thursday from
Louisville, he is going to replace this wire. Just my two cents.

Hinshaws has a number of bolt/fastener kits. I just got some of those press
on washers for the heater cables.
