Check your insurance policy and make sure you aren't violating the terms.
Most policies prohibit Commercial Use. If the company that rents your car
will provide coverage and put it in writing you should be ok.

Just throwing this out there. I am looking into making my cars
available for film & television. I have a friend who does this and he
gets $500 per day. If anybody else is interested, let me know and I'll
tell you what I find out. My research would be for the NYC area since
that is where I live. I also work as a grip in film & television, so I

Re: [Chevelle-list] New Ford Plant

2010-12-14 Thread Alex LaRue
I just picked a number out of the air Larry. I suspect the actual average
wage is a little higher. I did a quick search on the Mercedes plant in
Alabama and see that they have expanded twice, have more than 2,800 full
time employees now and this past fall hired 500 temps to meet the demand. I
am sure when the economy stabilizes many of them will become permanent. No
one can argue with the fact that more than 3,000 people are willing to work
for what the Mercedes plant pays. I do know that the Toyota plant in KY
offers wages and benefits that are comparable to what Ford pays in
Louisville.

I am tired of talking about new cars, let's talk about old cars! We
have a couple of decent indoor shows coming up in January in the area.
www.NashvilleAutofest.com and www.BluegrassAutoExpo.com Check them out.
Both are two day shows with tons of vendors and a lot of nice cars on
display. Hope to see you there.

trying to make is that this is one of many relatively unknown facts that
give foreign-owned automakers huge cost advantages over American-owned
automakers. Consider the following:

In 1997, the state of Alabama granted huge subsidies to Mercedes in exchange
for a plant that would employ 1,500 people. What were the details of this
huge incentive package? $300 million in tax breaks, $253 million in direct
incentives, $60 million in Alabama taxpayer money to send fellow Alabamans
to Germany for training, and a promise to buy 2,500 of the new Mercedes
SUV's at $30,000 each. Based on just the initial $300 million grant alone,
those 1,500 jobs will cost Alabama taxpayers $200,000 per job. Apparently
Alabama, not Mercedes, will be paying those salaries for years to come. With
deals like these, it's no wonder foreign automakers have stepped up
production in the U.S. We'll even pay their workers' salaries for them!

In 1987, Toyota constructed an auto plant on part of the 1,500 acres of free
land given to them in Georgetown, Kentucky. The auto plant was built by a
Japanese steel company using Japanese steel. The U.S. government granted a
"special trade zone" so that Toyota could import auto parts from Japan
duty-free. Financing was handled by Mitsui Bank of Japan. Total federal and
state grants and incentives exceeded $100 million. These subsidies, of
course, were courtesy of your tax dollars.

Tennessee gave Nissan $11,000 per job for their Smyrna plant built in 1980.
South Carolina coughed up $79,000 per job to convince Germany's BMW to build
their plant in Spartanburg in 1992. Were you aware that our government was
using your money to create jobs? Or are these merely job announcements where
you and I foot the bill? Job announcements do make for great rhetoric for
state governors' re-election campaigns. How many years will it take a
factory worker in Alabama to pay back the $200,000+ in t

You won't get the rates you have been seeing on a primary vehicle. Matter of
fact the reason I ended up with Hagerty was they were one of the few that
would insure me without a primary vehicle on my personal insurance. I have a
full use company vehicle that some companies wouldn't consider me for that
reason. Guess they thought u would be driving my Chevelle in the rain.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Insurance

2009-09-10 Thread Alex LaRue
Hey Donnie,
If you Malibu is stock we could insure it for about $150 for a year. If it
is modified $250 for a year. Quote is with Infinity Classic Insurance,
6,000 annual miles. No deductible on the comp or collision. Unlimited
mileage is available from Infinity for a few more dollars.

PS Did you notice that big hole in Darrell's coverages? Nothing personal
Darrell. He has an umbrella policy which shows that he needs high liability
limits and Grundy will only offer the state minimum for Uninsured and
Underinsured Motorists coverage. In my experience you are much more likely
to get hit by someone than to hit someone. If the moron that hits you has no
coverage or very little coverage and people in your car are injured Grundy
walks away after the first $50K and you are stuck with the rest. I recommend
you go with a company that will let you have high limits for your Uninsured
and Underinsured Motorists Coverage too so there is no GAP between those
coverages and your umbrella policy. Price isn't everything especially with
insurance.

What are your coverages? I pay $375/year with Hagerty, (live in MD)
and the agreed value is only $15,000. I have a 67 chevelle ... malibu.
This is full coverage but seems high compared to your rates. Might be
time for me to change insurance companies!

What do you suppose this collection is worth?

This collection belongs to Dennis Albaugh in Ankeny, Iowa, just north
of Des Moines.

The personal and private collection consists of 110 + Chevrolet
convertibles

all years from 1912 to 1975 and Corvette convertibles from 1953 to 1975.

That is a Chevy convertible from every year of manufacture EXCEPT 1939..
!

- the reason? -

Chevy didn't make a convertible in '39 -- and ended its convertible
line in '75 !

His 'boy toys' include his own 18 hole golf course, copied somewhat
after Augusta National.

He is what you call a REAL Chevy guy, but his passion seems to be
convertibles !

ever heard of the concept.

Anyway, the glue is another story. With any kind of contact cement it's
important to spray both sides and let it dry a few minutes until it's
tacky rather than wet (the Super 77 can says to bond when it is
"aggressively tacky"). Hold the can 6 to 8 inches away, keep it moving
and don't spray too much. If your headliner material is porous it can
ooze out the other side and it is hard to get off.

Maybe it's a symptom of the fact that I park outdoors in all kinds of
weather, but mine fall down at least once a year, meaning that the
material separates from the bo ards. I have tried 3M Headliner Adhesive
as well as Super 77. Maybe some day I'll just buy the pre-done ones and
get it over with.

I could not agree with you more. Banks and Insurance Companies [ sorry

deposit the check and hold the shipment until the bank released the funds
and stated in writing that all was good.

Sorry here, but just a rant on the following, I think its crappy of the
bank to do this to people, it looks real to you, it looks real to the bank,
so you send your stuff away, then the bank burns you in the end. They are
supposed to be the experts- they somehow figure it out over some time- why
couldn't they do what ever they "do later" right while you are standing
there- electronically or something--
sorry again, I just think it kinda sucks.

Sorry but this is false. The scam often involves forged cashiers
checks. I know of cases where the bank verified the check, the money
cleared, and then weeks later the bank found out it was a forgery. They

item and had problems when their account ran dry and checks started
bouncing.

I picked up the battery tray from Trevor at the Long Beach Swap Meet
today and figured I'd swap out the tray. I'm not sure how it happened
but the old, rusty, acid etched tray came out in less than five minutes,
and the new tray was in after another five. I was shocked that I could
be done so fast.

Of course I had to ruin it by R&Ring the battery cables. The negative
was easy, but of course the positive was the usual PITA. Finally, the
car did what it was supposed to and made something hard for me.

I am looking for some guidance on replacing the package tray on my 69 SS.
I have the new one as well as new insulation for underneath. Any guidance
on making this job as easy as possible is greatly appreciated. At this time
I will not be installing any rear speakers, if that makes a difference.

  Thanks in advance!

Great Stuff, do you mind if I spread it around? I have two brothers who live in
LA about 75% of the time and here the other 25%. One is 50, broke, and lives in
a mansion, (house sits for the same folks for last 10 years). The other is 43
and retired, travels extensively, lives in a rent controlled apartment by the
beach. Talk about the land of extremes!! They both say NO WIVES NO KIDS NO

You know you're from California if:

1. Your coworker has 8 body piercings and none are visible.

2. You make over $300,000 and still can't afford a house.

3. You take a bus and are shocked at two people carrying on a conversation in
English.

4. Your child's 3rd-grade teacher has purple hair, a nose ring, and is named
Flower.

5. You can't remember . . Is pot illegal?

6. You've been to a baby shower that has two mothers and a sperm donor.

7. You have a very strong opinion about where your coffee beans are grown, and
you can taste the difference between Sumatran and Ethiopian.

8. You can't remember . .. . Is pot illegal?

9. A really great parking space can totally move you to tears.

10. Gas costs $1.00 per gallon more than anywhere else in the U.S.

11. Unlike back home, the guy at 8:30 am at Starbucks wearing a baseball cap
and sunglasses who looks like George Clooney really IS George Clooney.

12. Your car insurance costs as much as your house payment.

13. You can't remember . .. .is pot illegal?

14. It's barely sprinkling rain and there's a report on every news station:
"STORM WATCH."

15 You pass an elementary school playground and the children are all busy with
their cells or pagers.

16. It's barely sprinkling rain outside, so you leave for work an hour early to
avoid all the weather-related accidents.

17. HEY Is pot illegal

18. Both you AND your dog have therapists, psychics, personal trainers and
cosmetic surgeons.

19. The Terminator is your Governor.

20. If you drive illegally, they take your driver's license. If you're here
illegally, they want to give you one.

Good afternoon Chevelle List: I am planning to have a Tremec 5 Speed
installed in my car this spring. I am requesting any & all thoughts &
advice, even if it's just thinking out loud. This is an expensive item and
a one shot deal for me so if there is any info or experiences out there I
should know about, please don't be shy!

Aside from normal installation situations, one item that has been brought
to my attention is that there have been problems & difficulty in power
shifting at high rpms from 2nd to 3rd. The car is a fair weather weekend
driver only, an occassional, OK, more than occassional few gears on the
street, with a trip to the drags once or twice a summer. My reflexes aren't
what they were 40 years ago & I don't do power shifting anymore anyway. The
next item is whether to go with the .64 or .82 5th gear. Would I be giving
up all top end punch with the .64 for the sake of really low highway rpms or
would the .82 put me whare I want to be & still give it some power if
needed. I've done the math on the web calculators but it appears to be a
judgement call. 1st gear will be 2.87 and the rear will be a Moser posi
3.73. The car is a 65 SS with a .40 over 327, Muncie M-20 with Hurst,
Edelbrock Alum heads & manifold, Demon 750, Comp Cams 274 Extreme, MSD, and
Hedman. It currently cruises the highway at 3400 rpm at 65mph with
215x75x15 redline tires. Mostly Show but its got plenty of Go. I'm looking
maintain performance & make it highway enjoyable. All thoughts, ideas, and
any experiences you're willing to share will be greatly appreciated. Sorry
for the long entry. Had to get all my thought down. Thank You All.

Some times I think I want to proposition Spike TV for my

Well, lately every single day something has broken and today is no
exception. I just went out and started the El Camino and the fuel gauge went
way past full about half-way through the temperature light area. This is the
first time this has ever happened. I'm hoping it's just a symptom of the
heat. Right now weather.com is saying that it's 107 degrees outside with the
heat index. I know that the tank is near empty. Any ideas?

Here's a chance to help one of our own. Maybe you've seen the Optima ad in
the magazines talking about a contest where the winner will get up to $50k
worth of upgrades done to his/her car. Go to this link and vote for the
Chevelle. I don't know the guy but I'd rather see a Chevelle get the win
than a SRT-4, a Mustang, a Silverado, or a Jeep.

There were no misunderstandings,Emil. I talked to
Hagerty directly, not one of their carriers. It
doesn't matter anymore. Alex LaRue is my insurance agent, now and hopefully in
the future. People like him and you are who we need to support with our
  dollars.

Clint, here are Hagerty's underwriting guidelines on Exotics. Looks
like
they were unaware your regular use vehicles were 3+ years
old until they received your application.

Different companies have different underwriting so its best to
go thru an agent that is familiar with each companies
underwriting.
Even then, things happen and applications get rejected.

Case-in-point: Hagerty has a new endorsement excluding
racing and they say they will write these cars and cover
them while in the pits but exclude coverage while in the
staging lanes or while actually on the track surface.

So, I have a customer with a 69 Mustang, big-tire, back-halved,
521CID
BBF, full roll cage with a fogger and plate nitrous systems. I
write
the application, photos of engine compartment complete with
nitrous systems, trunk with fuel cell and nitrous bottles,
interior
with sheet metal and roll cage and Hagerty sends it back
stating its a little too racey. Anyway, I contact one of my
other classic carriers and they accept it without blinking an
eye.
Less then a week after submission I get an approval and binder
and a week later I get the policy. The price is less then
Hagerty and everybody is happy.

Because we only sell Agreed Value policies, our program is
designed to insure vehicles in very good to excellent condition
that are either maintaining or increasing in value. It is the
agent's responsibility to only submit applicants that
demonstrate that he or she cares for the vehicle in a manner
consistent with the ownership of something valuable. This means
that the vehicle must be garaged when not in use, is driven for
pleasure, shows, or club driving, and is not used for daily or
back-up transportation.

  3. Exotics and Special
Interest Vehicles that are 19 Years Old or Newer
    [ View
Example ]

Exotics
Exotic vehicles stand on their own as collectible cars
because of their extremely limited production. By this we mean
the car’s limited production is a major factor in determining if
it qualifies for our program. Hagerty defines exotic cars as
vehicles 19 years old or newer that have production numbers of
less than 3,000 per year.
Guidelines for Writing Exotic Vehicles:

Four color photographs of vehicles must be reviewed prior
  to issuing coverage
Annual mileage should not exceed 2,500 miles per year
Vehicle’s minimum insured value must be $40,000
Regular use cars must be less than three years old
Odometer reading should not be excessive

Here
in KY when you acquire a another car without trading one in at the
same time you have no coverage at all until you do the paperwork If you just
finished your restoration and the car is ready to drive you have no coverage
unless you have done the paperwork. The automatic coverage for a replacement or
temporary substitute starts when you acquire the new car. If you have owned it
for a while your 10 days or 30 days or whatever your state allows are probably
already long gone. Don't take a chance, do the paperwork before you drive it.

  They can't drive it

they buy it. Anybody who is coming from out of state and trying to make

I might be a bit
late responding, but this is true.  Anyone who wishes to show up and
buy a car and drive it away should be prepared to do a wire transfer from
his bank account directly to yours.  He can tell his bank ahead of time
what he is up to and so can the seller, and then the buyer can show up and
drive the car make the deal and go with the seller to his bank an initiate
the wire transfer.  These things take time.  It can be done within
a few hours or a day, but having to stay overnight is not unusual and both
sides should be prepared for that possibility.  Showing up with the
cash means the guy is serious but if he’s going to present a negotiable
instrument the car and title should not be delivered until your bank has
confirmed clearance.Been there, done that.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Buying 69 Chevelle

2006-03-17 Thread Alex LaRue

Steve,
You might try to make the ACES Regional events where you will see many 69s and
might be able to buy one. You will be able to tap the huge wealth of knowledge
that is always walking around as well. I suggest you learn how to read a trim
tag so you can tell what you are looking at. There is some software available
on the TC website that can help you with all the codes. The list can probably
help you make up a list of codes to look for on the trim tags. I bought the
software and have used it many times.

When you fin the car you think you want, isuggest you hire an appraiser to
verify what condition etc. it is in before pulling the trigger. A family member
did not do so recently and really got burnt on a 69 chevelle. It's money well
spent. gm66

MessageSteve, you may have got more than you expected here. There are numerous
69 SS owners here and they are all way more helpful than you can imagine. It
would also help if you would let us know what shape of car you are looking for.
And a price range that you are willing ot spend and i bet these guys will hook
you up!! My son just sold one about a month ago but it was a project car. Good
luck on your search. And your question is totally appropraite.

I will start by saying that I am new to the list and would like to ask in
advance for your patience if I am posting a question that is inappropriate for
this list. I would also appreciate someone letting me know if it is not an
appropriate question.

I joined the list just a few days ago after finding the web site while doing
some searches on Google. Once I joined I was amazed at the amount of talent and
information that existed within this group. I am trying to find a 1969 Chevelle
SS-396 to purchase and have been looking and searching for some time to try and
locate the right car. I know what I want and have found a few cars that would
come close however the fact that I am a novice ultimately undermines my
confidence in pulling the trigger on purchasing a car.

Does anyone within the group know of someone that is familiar with 69's that
would not mind consulting with me regarding my hopeful purchase. Additionaly, I
would not expect this type of help without gladly agreeing to pay a pre
arranged fee.

Again, please accept my appologies if this is an inappropriate question.

Almost everyone will still be there on Saturday. All the vendors will be
there and the show closes with a huge barbecue dinner about 3 pm on
Saturday. Still plenty going on. Usually go to the dragstrip on Thursday
night and an early evening cruise through the country on Friday. Lots of
action at the host hotels and the Best Western every night in the parking
lots. It will be worth the trip. I'll be on vendors row and hope to see you
there. Another show you might want to check out is the National Hot Rod

Folks-
I have never been to a Chevellabration because I have been overseas for 4
years. I will find myself at an Air Force class at Maxwell AFB (Montgomery
AL) approximately 260 miles south of Nashville from 5-23 June - and may try
to dissappear for a day or so. I see the event dates of 8-10 June are a
Th-Fri-Sat. Is Saturday a "tear down" day that is not so good to see cars
and talk to folks? I may only get to drive in on Friday evening and go to
the event on Saturday - would I be wasting my time? I may be driving a Ford
or even (gasp) an import. Would I still be welcome :-).

Re: [Chevelle-list] OT: hybrids

2006-02-08 Thread Alex LaRue
Hey Brad, Glad your parents are doing well. Your parents need to be careful
where they get the car fixed for one main reason. That is the manufacturers
warranty if the car still has one. If it is still under warranty take it to
the dealer and ask if the repairs affect the warranty? Are the repairs
guaranteed, if so check out the details thoroughly. Another option if there
is no warranty is to take the car to an Allstate ProShop (the adjuster can
give you the names) where the repairs are guaranteed in most cases. Again
check the details of the guarantee in advance. As to the rental car ask for
one that is comparable to the damaged car and call around to the local
rental companies and see what they go for on a 30 day basis. Sometimes a
longer term rental will cost less per day than a short term one.

Quick update. The other insurance company (Allstate) called my dad and
asked to have medical bill sent to them, and offered him $15 a day for loss
of use of his car. Initial estimate is $12-$14K to fix the car and TWO
MONTHS! I'm guessing the parts are not readily available...

Re: [Chevelle-list] Heavy Chevy

2006-02-02 Thread Alex LaRue
The Heavy Chevys were the feature cars at Chevell A Bration 04. The 4 HCs
that were there were on the cover of Chevelle World July/August 04. There
was an orange with black side stripes, light blue with white side stripe,
light green with white side stripes, and a bronze with black side stripes
and black vinyl top. No hood stripes on any of them. They look like your
sisters car and run like your SS. Talk about sneaky.
