For all to know, I will not be reading the list for a couple
of days. My family and myself are getting out of Dodge, oops I said the
D word. We are leaving town, running to higher ground, to get away
from Hurricane IVAN. Wish us luck in that we still have a home,in one
piece,to come home to after all is said and done. Once all this is done I
hope that Cruisin' the Coast will be just as much fun as it has for me the past
two years. Having everyone stop and talk to me about my Chevelle and also how a
lot of people say that they also had a Chevelle back when. That to me is the
most fun of all especially when you see the look in some people's eyes when
they see the car. I will be leaving it here. locked up in a garage with the
windows boarded up and covered up. Talk to y'all later

RE: [Chevelle-list] 69 Dash Lighting

2004-09-14 Thread Fruhauf Kerry A SSgt 3 CS/SCBS
The part that agitates the hell out of me is the fact that the wires
connecting the bulbs only allow about 1/2 inch of movement. There is not
nearly enough room to move around behind the gauges to plug those things in.
I spent several hours trying to get mine set up right, and ultimately gave
up since it 24 hours of daylight in the summer, and I don't drive the
Chevelle in the winter!

I used epoxy to get them to stay together. Seemed to work fairly well.
I put a drop on each spade where they fit into the socket and then a
tiny bit around the rim where the metal ring sits. Yes I fully
understand how pissed off you can get when it's all together and you
here pop and one of the bulbs is loose in your gauge!

I thought about that. But I don't want to mess up the socket when I
need to replace a bulb (and go back into dash hookup hell). Though I
may not have a choice. I do not understand why they couldn't just make
them like some of
the other bulbs that have solid sockets that snap in... You have to
agree,
if you have had to mess with them before, they are a lot more trouble
then they should be.

Does anyone out that have a sure-fire way to keep the bulbs and metal
frame things from slipping out of the black sockets? I just spent a few
hours putting my dash in, taking it out (getting the bulbs came out),
putting it back in, taking it back out (getting the bulbs that came out)
, you get the picture. I was thinking of using some contact cement on
the little spade connectors that go down into the holder. I think the
bulbs fall out when that thing gets loose. Any ideas?

And if anyone know who the engineer was who designed those things, send
him my way.

Thanks,

generation that is against us. I suppose the more things change, the more
they stay the same. The youth of today may not be sporting ty-dyed

This kind
of thing is ridiculous. Times are
sad, when people just destroy others possessions out of jealousy or ignorance. It seems that theft and vandalizing
things is the new generations way of dealing with jealousy. A friend of mine had his truck stolen
two nights ago, right from his shop.
Apparently the crooks waited for him to get the project completed, then brought
a trailer to the shop in the middle of the night, and drove away with it. There are a lot of people up here on
the lookout for his rig. Sad to
say, but Im sure its gone forever.
The parts will probably show up before long on the market.

Im glad I
live on the Air Force base, it allows me to sleep a little easier, but on the
VERY few nights that the Chevelle isnt in the garage, I catch myself peering
out the windows of the house frequently to check on it. Its a shame that people cant be
trusted. Didnt they used to hang
horse thieves? I figure I have the
equivalent of 400+ horses under my hood, so thats a whole lot of neck
stretchin if some one steals it! (Wheres
Marshall Dillon when ya need him?)

My
Chevelle was vandalized last night. I didn't care that they stole all the
loose stuff and I am grateful the stereo and speakers were still in place, they
could have done some real damage getting them out.

What
really gets me is that these little jerks lit fireworks off INSIDE THE
CAR! I thank God the whole car didn't burn up asit possibly could
have. It burned the seats, the floor andthe aftermarket
gauges. It left behind that burned smoke residue and melted plastic where
they finally burned out so it melded into the seats. It might have been
smoke bombs, I dont know. There was one left in there that didn't go off
and I am really glad it didn't as it looked like it would have done some real
damage, again ... thank you Lord!

Obviously
it was some really dumb kids and I don't think it was personal but it really
irritates me to get violated like this. That was one of the really nice parts
of my Chevelle, a near perfect original interior. I got most of it
cleaned up OK but the front bench seat is ruined and so are the gauge
faces. Obviously I am going to have to change some things around here in
the area of security.

Thanks for
listening!!!

I'm trying to remove it so I can install new seatbelts for my kids, and I
cant figure out how to get it out. It seems to just be a matter of tugging
on it with enough force, but it's awfully tight, and I'd hate to trash the
seat by ripping it out in haste. Anyone ever have the rear seat out? Is
there a trick?

On a completely separate note, my new 383 is running like a champ, now that
I figured out my problems. It seems a Holley blue electric fuel pump does
not quite agree with an Edelbrock 1406. Something about the PSI being off

To get the base out, push down hard on the front edge, then pull forward.
The back is held by a couple of bolts at the bottom, and hooked over the top
(so lift up to remove it).

OK, It's been a while since I've posted on the list. But it seems that I am
in need of your expertise! Apparently I have been defeated by my backseat.

Something about the PSI being off
by 10 or so! :)

Yep, I had the same problem. I used the

One of the guys from our car club came by yesterday and let me drive his 02
Corvette--an automatic trans, active suspension car. That thing is
amazing!! Tons of straight line power, and slot car handling with great
ride quality. Bob wanted me to drive the car hard, so I entered a 90
degree turn at about 35mph, clipped the apex floored it. I was ready to
twist the wheel to compensate for power oversteer, but that dude just
squatted down, chirped the tires a little FLEW out of the
corner. There's no way I can afford a Corvette and the Chevelle, but if
someone comes and wants to trade, I just might have to take them up on
it. I've driven two other Vettes, a 67 350hp about 25 years ago and a 89
about 11 years ago. Both of them had great power and decent handling, but
the ride quality sucked. These new ones are the best car I've ever been
in. There's actually decent luggage space behind the seat now too! I just
had to share my excitement with someone-- :-))

Last year we replaced all the windows in our house with those
 expensive double-pane energy efficient kind.

But this week my wife got a call from the contractor complaining that
his work had been completed a whole year ago and she hadn't paid for
 them.

Boy oh boy, did she get mad! Just because she's blonde doesn't mean
 that she's automatically stupid.

She proceeded to tell him just what his fast talking sales guy had
told her, that in one year the windows would pay for themselves.

There was silence on the other end..so she just hung up, and we
 haven't heard back.

[Chevelle-list] Forum style

2004-03-23 Thread Fruhauf Kerry A SSgt 3 CS/SCBS
Anyone on the list have webspace sitting idle? If so, does anyone else have
web based experience? OK, now here's the real kicker, is anyone interested
in making the leap into the next level of communicating? I guess what I'm
trying to sell here is turning the list into a forum based deal. Kinda like
this:

http://broncoii.org/b2forum/index.php or this:

http://www.wheelingadventures.com/Northern4x4/ikonboard.cgi or even this:

http://forums.genvibe.com/zeromain

I'm a member of all three of these. It works great, and you don't have to
worry about people getting all aggrevated about getting off the list, and
you can check whatever posts you want to check, whenever you want to check
them. It also organizes the subjects up, so if wsomeone has a technical
question, they can post it in a tech realted section, and someone that just
wants to BS, can post in the general discussions area. I for one would love
to see us turn the list this direction. I think it would be beneficial to
all of us.

Just a suggestion. I wish I was experienced enough, and had the web space
to put it together myself, but alas, I can not. I would however be willing
to help out as much as possible with the sites creation. Pelle, this may be
something for your page. It would add a lot of traffic, which could stir up
interest from sponsor types. Maybe a little extra $$ for the Chevelle!?!

Comments on the idea

My hat's off to either one of our sister services! I salute each of them
for their efforts. That's the hardset part, being away from family. It
really sucks. I missed both my daughters first birthday's. I got to spend
them in the big sandbox. Pretty miserable. Not to belittle the shots.

Thanks James. Unfortunately my niece (his older sister) just got her shots
and leaves in about a week for Iraq. So, at the same time that we are happy
and relieved, we are also still missing a loved one and worried for her
sake. I'll have to start saying Go Army now.

  What?
Trevor has an attitude toward me? Just kidding, we mention and recommend each
other all the time. I have bought used parts from Trevor myself and was very
  happy with the parts service.

  Speaking
of used parts, I am still looking for horns with brackets for my 69 El Camino.
The horns themselves are available in reproduction, but they don't come with
the brackets. Unfortunately these are some of the parts I was scammed out of
by the guy who did the bodywork on my car, and I need them to make the car
  roadworthy.

  I'm
still trying to sell that car too. I really have to get it out of my friend
Jack's garage and don't want to go back to paying for storage. I've been
house-hunting as well and it would be nice to have the additonal wherewithal.

Shoot,
I'd consider even paying the insurance. You are correct, though.
That would be one heck of a commute. That may be a solution to your
problem, though. If you have someone near you, that you trust, it could be
a win win situation. They get to use a classicvehicle for the cost
of insurance, and the use of their garage, and you get a free insured place to
store the Elky. Something to consider, at the very
least.

  I
might actually consider that if it were not an insurance issue, and if you
were nearby enough that I could take it for a spin once in a while myself. I
was thinking about offering that option to my brother, but he doesn't have a
  garage.

I'm pretty sure we covered this one

don't get an answer soon. I couldn't tell you about a BB, I have a

lift the motor just a bit, I can barely squeak them outta there. I'm
fairly certain, that if you take the head off, it will come outta there, but you
probably don't want to go through all that!

With a
BB, it may actually be better to remove the head. I just had both of mine
off, and pulling the header would have been a breeze. Taking the heads
off, and reinstalling them isn't that big of a deal, it just costs a few extra
$$'s. Gaskets alone were about $125 for me. I know they were alot
cheaper down in Georgia, but Anchorage is a bit higher cost bracket.
Also, I bought the only ones in the state. I sure hope I don't have
to replace them again for a while!

will side out ever so slightly from the bottom.

  To

everyone used to have plastered on their windows, or the fake bullet hole
stickers on cars. Admittedly, I have laughed at the 'ol Garfield smashed in
the trunk lid, but after seeing about 200 of them, it gets old. The latest
thing I have seen is a baseball that is cut in half, and applied to a
window, with a sticker, to make it look as though it has smashed through the
glass.

I have been around cars and car shows my entire life, however, I don't have
a clue about the tail sticking out of the trunk. Where did it start? What
meaning, if any, does it have? Any trivial information would be good to
know, so this year when at our cruise nights and my 6 yr twins ask what's
the sticking out for? I'll have better answers for them rather than just
laughing with them about the cat or raccoon that is stuck in the trunk.

I guess
that could be a good thing. At least no one is arguing about getting
removed from the list.

On a
better (worse) note, I pulled the heads on my motor yesterday. Turns out
the shop that built it up didn't put any Permatex on the head bolt
threads. I'm fairly certain that that is where the water in the oil is
coming from. Not to mention that 2 of the bolts on the passenger side were
not torqued to specs.

Anyway,
I just thought I'd share my most recent Chevelle experience. I need to get
it all up to par by the end of March, that's when my seasonal permit begins for
Anchorage. With all the engine mods I've done, it'll never pass the
emission test, so I just have the seasonal. Works fine for me, since I
wouldn't drive it in the snow and ice, anyway.

Shouldn't be much damage if any. I caught the H2O/oil mix after about 20
minutes of run time. I was just warming it up to adjust the valves. It was
just a tiny bit of water. After the fix action, I'll do an oil change, and
run her for a few minutes, and then do another oil change. That should
clear it out.

1968 and older are exempt. It's not
the whole state, just the North Star Burough (Fairbanks area), and the entire
Anchorage "bowl". The only thing my Chevelle would need to pass is the
emissions sniff part. Newer cars have to pass safety tests, and all other
kinds of crap. Luckily, my Pontiac Vibe is not required to have it done
until 2006, and the Bronco II I just bought had it completed in Jan of this
year.

My area is much more strict than
California. If you can actually believe that. It's just easier for
me to have a seasonal permit for the Chevelle, than trying to get a cat
installed, or going back to exhaust manifolds vice my headers. Basically
if the car isn't stock, it won't pass. And since I just dropped a new
motor in it last year, the sniffer is really strict. I have to be down to
the same level of emmisions as a 2003 model car. We all know that won't
happen! ;-) Besides, like I said, I won't drive it in the snow
anyway, and the seasonal is good from 31 MAR through 31 NOV. The snow
starts flying here around the middle of October, and break-up is around mid
April, so I'm pretty much covered for the time I'd actually drive it.

and when you find one you are interested in, if it's not close to you, let
the list know. I'd imagine any one of us would be willing to check it out
for you and let you know weather or not it's worth persuing. I had to drive
about 350 miles to get mine, and unfortunately, it was before I became a
member of the list, otherwise I would have asked for the favor myself. Most
the good people on the list have digital cameras, and could even provide
pictures for you, if ya ask nicely enough! g If you find one for sale in
the Anchorage Alaska area, I'd be more than willing to help you out, but I
wouldn't hold my breath on finding one up this direction. The ones that are
up here, will probably never be for sale, the old muscle cars up here are
treated like gold!

I have been lurking on this list for a couple of years now, living
vicariously, and learning through the Chevelle escapades of this group.

I can not take it any longer. It's time for me to confess. I am
a Chevelleaholic, there is no more denying it. I had my first Chevelle
at 16 a 1969, and got my second at 18 a 1972.

This car was near mint, and needs a short description. I can only
remember 2 small paint imperfections.

1972 Chevelle Malibu 42,000 mi
350 CI (stock original)
Factory 4 speed (no console)
Orange w/black vinyl top
Black interior
Bucket Seats

I ended up wreaking my 72 driving home one night after work. Needles
to say I was devastated. I never replaced the Chevelle feeling it would be
impossible.

Now this gets really strange, I started having dreams that the Chevelle
was back and not wreaked. I would be driving it and looking it over,
only to wake up with this awful feeling, after realizing it was
just a dream. These dreams continued until, a couple of years ago.
This was about when, I joined this list and realized the need for
another 72 Chevelle like the one I had.

Ideally, if I can find a Chevelle that fits the above description,
it would be my dream Chevelle. I have been looking for such a Chevelle.
I came very close. I would have needed to convert the tranny over
and put in bucket seats, but missed out on the deal.

This is where I need your help. If you have or know of a Chevelle
that fits, (I would be willing to make the 2 mentioned changes to the car)
please email me.

Thanks
Walter

I am thinking about getting rid of my 1989 Nissan Pulsar NX. It is a great
city beater car, but it keeps blowing the brake light fuse or switch. Since
I got it in the early spring, I have replaced the brake switch twice and the
fuse probably more like 4 times. Obviously there is a problem and I don't
feel like figuring it out. I'm looking for another car, and hoping that
maybe I can get $500 on a trade in. Otherwise I may just give this car away.
It runs fine and the front brakes are a week old. It's a fun car due to the
T-tops and it actually holds a good bit of cargo with the back seat folded
down. Needs CV joints. Tires are good. Averages 27 MPG. Everything works
except the A/C, fuel/temp gauges, and sometimes the brake lights. Let me
know if you are interested and we'll see what happens.

John

Consider giving it to a charity. Many charities have such programs. It
will benefit them, and you can take a tax write-off worth more than the
amount you could get in a trade or outright sale. I've done this, and it's
a great way to turn a beater into a win-win.

  No, this isn't spam. Our
local union representative just gave us some information today that will
affect every Federal Employee and may trickle down to the state levels as
well. This information was obtained from Oklahoma Congressman Tom Cole's
office concerning the DOD AUTHORIZATION PACKAGE bill.
The House voted and passed this
bill this A.M. The vote was 362/40. If you have never called your
U.S. Senator before, do it NOW. If this passes in the Senate, we will
  lose many benefits.
  The understanding is there will
be NO more overtime pay (just straight time) and supervisors can still demand
'mandatory overtime.' NO cost of living (COLA's), NO premium holiday pay
  - holidays, mandatory or not, will get straight time, NO due process such as
the Merit Protection Board, NO step increases.
The House has voted on the final
version of the DoD Plan agreed to late last night by House and Senate
negotiators. A Senate vote will soon follow although we don't know
exactly when. AFGE strongly opposes the conference report because House
and Senate negotiators did not change the outright attack on the collective
barganing and other rights of DoD civilian employees contained in the
  legislation.
Call your Senators and urge them
to oppose the Defense Authorization conference report. Call your
lawmakers toll free at 1-877-331-2000 and ask to be connected to your
Representative or Senators office. You can find your Representative at
http://www.house.gov and your Senator at http://www.senate.gov.
  Personal note: As I
understand it, and I may be wrong, this bill was passed as a 'rider' on the
defense authorization bill to fund the Iraq war...not on its own merits.
This may also affect other Federal Employees, I'm not sure. You can be
sure if this only affects DoD employees now, it will be a catalyst for any and
  all federal workers!
