My family and myself are getting out of Dodge, oops I said the D word. We are leaving town, running to higher ground, to get away from Hurricane IVAN. Wish us luck in that we still have a home,in one piece,to come home to after all is said and done. Once all this is done I hope that Cruisin' the Coast will be just as much fun as it has for me the past two years. Having everyone stop and talk to me about my Chevelle and also how a lot of people say that they also had a Chevelle back when. That to me is the most fun of all especially when you see the look in some people's eyes when they see the car. RE: [Chevelle-list] 69 Dash Lighting
The part that agitates the hell out of me is the fact that the wires connecting the bulbs only allow about 1/2 inch of movement. There is not nearly enough room to move around behind the gauges to plug those things in. I spent several hours trying to get mine set up right, and ultimately gave up since it 24 hours of daylight in the summer, and I don't drive the Chevelle in the winter! Seemed to work fairly well. I put a drop on each spade where they fit into the socket and then a tiny bit around the rim where the metal ring sits. Yes I fully understand how pissed off you can get when it's all together and you here pop and one of the bulbs is loose in your gauge! -Original Message- From: Crazy Rusty [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, September 13, 2004 10:18 PM To: 'The Chevelle Mailing List' Subject: RE: [Chevelle-list] 69 Dash Lighting I thought about that. You have to agree, if you have had to mess with them before, they are a lot more trouble then they should be. -Original Message- From: Rick Schaefer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, September 13, 2004 9:17 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; The Chevelle Mailing List Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] 69 Dash Lighting Try a glue gun to hold the bulb socket inplace. I just spent a few hours putting my dash in, taking it out (getting the bulbs came out), putting it back in, taking it back out (getting the bulbs that came out) , you get the picture. I was thinking of using some contact cement on the little spade connectors that go down into the holder. I think the bulbs fall out when that thing gets loose. Any ideas? And if anyone know who the engineer was who designed those things, send him my way. Thanks, JB -- Rick Schaefer

We, the military community, appreciate your thoughts and prayers. You, all those that support us, are the reason we look forward to putting on the uniform every morning. It's good to know that there are still civilians that support and appreciate, the military. All to often do I turn on the news to see individuals protesting our work. Typically it's the younger generation that is against us. I suppose the more things change, the more they stay the same. RE: [Chevelle-list] Vandalized!!!
This kind of thing is ridiculous. Times are sad, when people just destroy others possessions out of jealousy or ignorance. It seems that theft and vandalizing things is the new generations way of dealing with jealousy. A friend of mine had his truck stolen two nights ago, right from his shop. Apparently the crooks waited for him to get the project completed, then brought a trailer to the shop in the middle of the night, and drove away with it. There are a lot of people up here on the lookout for his rig. Sad to say, but Im sure its gone forever. The parts will probably show up before long on the market. Im glad I live on the Air Force base, it allows me to sleep a little easier, but on the VERY few nights that the Chevelle isnt in the garage, I catch myself peering out the windows of the house frequently to check on it. Its a shame that people cant be trusted. Didnt they used to hang horse thieves? I figure I have the equivalent of 400+ horses under my hood, so thats a whole lot of neck stretchin if some one steals it! (Wheres Marshall Dillon when ya need him?) My Chevelle was vandalized last night. I didn't care that they stole all the loose stuff and I am grateful the stereo and speakers were still in place, they could have done some real damage getting them out. What really gets me is that these little jerks lit fireworks off INSIDE THE CAR! I thank God the whole car didn't burn up asit possibly could have. It burned the seats, the floor andthe aftermarket gauges. It left behind that burned smoke residue and melted plastic where they finally burned out so it melded into the seats. It might have been smoke bombs, I dont know. There was one left in there that didn't go off and I am really glad it didn't as it looked like it would have done some real damage, again ... thank you Lord! Obviously it was some really dumb kids and I don't think it was personal but it really irritates me to get violated like this. That was one of the really nice parts of my Chevelle, a near perfect original interior. I got most of it cleaned up OK but the front bench seat is ruined and so are the gauge faces. Obviously I am going to have to change some things around here in the area of security. Thanks for listening!!! Darren

Is there a trick? On a completely separate note, my new 383 is running like a champ, now that I figured out my problems. RE: [Chevelle-list] Just a joke
Last year we replaced all the windows in our house with those expensive double-pane energy efficient kind. But this week my wife got a call from the contractor complaining that his work had been completed a whole year ago and she hadn't paid for them. Boy oh boy, did she get mad! Just because she's blonde doesn't mean that she's automatically stupid. She proceeded to tell him just what his fast talking sales guy had told her, that in one year the windows would pay for themselves. [Chevelle-list] Forum style
Anyone on the list have webspace sitting idle? If so, does anyone else have web based experience? OK, now here's the real kicker, is anyone interested in making the leap into the next level of communicating? I guess what I'm trying to sell here is turning the list into a forum based deal. Kinda like this: http://broncoii.org/b2forum/index.php or this: http://www.wheelingadventures.com/Northern4x4/ikonboard.cgi or even this: http://forums.genvibe.com/zeromain I'm a member of all three of these. It works great, and you don't have to worry about people getting all aggrevated about getting off the list, and you can check whatever posts you want to check, whenever you want to check them. It also organizes the subjects up, so if wsomeone has a technical question, they can post it in a tech realted section, and someone that just wants to BS, can post in the general discussions area. I for one would love to see us turn the list this direction. I think it would be beneficial to all of us. Just a suggestion. I wish I was experienced enough, and had the web space to put it together myself, but alas, I can not. I would however be willing to help out as much as possible with the sites creation. Pelle, this may be something for your page. It would add a lot of traffic, which could stir up interest from sponsor types. Maybe a little extra $$ for the Chevelle!?! Comments on the idea SARGE

RE: [Chevelle-list] Header removal
Title: Message With a BB, it may actually be better to remove the head. I just had both of mine off, and pulling the header would have been a breeze. Taking the heads off, and reinstalling them isn't that big of a deal, it just costs a few extra $$'s. Gaskets alone were about $125 for me. I know they were alot cheaper down in Georgia, but Anchorage is a bit higher cost bracket. Also, I bought the only ones in the state. I sure hope I don't have to replace them again for a while! RE: [Chevelle-list] tail out of the trunk meaning
To my knowledge it's just a fad, kinda like the Baby on board signs that everyone used to have plastered on their windows, or the fake bullet hole stickers on cars. Admittedly, I have laughed at the 'ol Garfield smashed in the trunk lid, but after seeing about 200 of them, it gets old. The latest thing I have seen is a baseball that is cut in half, and applied to a window, with a sticker, to make it look as though it has smashed through the glass. Shouldn't be much damage if any. I caught the H2O/oil mix after about 20 minutes of run time. I was just warming it up to adjust the valves. It was just a tiny bit of water. After the fix action, I'll do an oil change, and run her for a few minutes, and then do another oil change. That should clear it out. Title: Message 1968 and older are exempt. It's not the whole state, just the North Star Burough (Fairbanks area), and the entire Anchorage "bowl". The only thing my Chevelle would need to pass is the emissions sniff part. Newer cars have to pass safety tests, and all other kinds of crap. Luckily, my Pontiac Vibe is not required to have it done until 2006, and the Bronco II I just bought had it completed in Jan of this year. My area is much more strict than California. If you can actually believe that. It's just easier for me to have a seasonal permit for the Chevelle, than trying to get a cat installed, or going back to exhaust manifolds vice my headers. Basically if the car isn't stock, it won't pass. And since I just dropped a new motor in it last year, the sniffer is really strict. I have to be down to the same level of emmisions as a 2003 model car. We all know that won't happen! ;-) Besides, like I said, I won't drive it in the snow anyway, and the seasonal is good from 31 MAR through 31 NOV. The snow starts flying here around the middle of October, and break-up is around mid April, so I'm pretty much covered for the time I'd actually drive it. Kerry A. I can not take it any longer. It's time for me to confess. I am a Chevelleaholic, there is no more denying it. I had my first Chevelle at 16 a 1969, and got my second at 18 a 1972. This car was near mint, and needs a short description. Needles to say I was devastated. I never replaced the Chevelle feeling it would be impossible. Now this gets really strange, I started having dreams that the Chevelle was back and not wreaked. I would be driving it and looking it over, only to wake up with this awful feeling, after realizing it was just a dream. These dreams continued until, a couple of years ago. This was about when, I joined this list and realized the need for another 72 Chevelle like the one I had. Ideally, if I can find a Chevelle that fits the above description, it would be my dream Chevelle. I have been looking for such a Chevelle. I came very close. I would have needed to convert the tranny over and put in bucket seats, but missed out on the deal. This is where I need your help. The House has voted on the final version of the DoD Plan agreed to late last night by House and Senate negotiators. A Senate vote will soon follow although we don't know exactly when. AFGE strongly opposes the conference report because House and Senate negotiators did not change the outright attack on the collective barganing and other rights of DoD civilian employees contained in the legislation. Call your Senators and urge them to oppose the Defense Authorization conference report. Call your lawmakers toll free at 1-877-331-2000 and ask to be connected to your Representative or Senators office. You can find your Representative at http://www.house.gov and your Senator at http://www.senate.gov. Personal note: As I understand it, and I may be wrong, this bill was passed as a 'rider' on the defense authorization bill to fund the Iraq war...not on its own merits. This may also affect other Federal Employees, I'm not sure. You can be sure if this only affects DoD employees now, it will be a catalyst for any and all federal workers!
