Have you used a vacuum canister?
I've not, but was reading the MP Brakes catalog the other

wondering if anyone had any actual experience with the canisters, because I
may be needing something for vacuum myself.

Subject:    eSecurity Advisory: Blackmal Email Worm
A new variant of an old worm is scheduled to be
released this Friday, February 3. The W32.Blackmal.E worm, initially
released on Jan. 17, is programmed to implement a very destructive routine
that repeats on the third day of each month. The worm, which is scheduled to
begin this malicious activity on Friday, Feb. 3, replaces the contents of
files such as Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations,
and Access databases. It uses subject lines such as “Photos”, “*Hot Movie*”, and “Miss Lebanon
2006” to entice the user into opening the
attachment. As soon as the attachment is executed, the user's system is
immediately infected.Our anti-virus
definition files are up to date and our gateway is well protected, but
additional variants of the worm are anticipated. We ordinarily do not
release advisories about individual worms, but because of the destructive
nature of this worm, we wanted to bring this to your attention to protect
both your work computer and your home computer.
What can you do? Do you have any Word, Excel, or PowerPoint
files on your local C: drive? If so, we strongly recommend taking
precautionary measures and saving these files to a server that is backed up
regularly. This is a good time to get out of the habit of keeping important
files only on your C: drive.
Do you preview your inbox looking for suspicious
emails before opening them? If not, start now! There is more specific information on the worm is available below.

Email Worm destroys files on the third day of each month OVERVIEW: Blackmal.E (aka
Nyxem.E, MyWife.d) is a new email worm which will
overwrite or destroy files on an infected system on the third day of each
month. The files destroyed include Microsoft Office files including Word
documents, Access database and PowerPoint files; files belonging to various
Anti-Virus applications; Adobe Acrobat files and others. In addition to
spreading via email, this worm can also spread through network file sharing
where the file shares are not password protected or have a weak
password.
Although anti-virus vendors are rating this
low-medium risk, it is important to note the destructive nature of this
worm. Additionally,
the worm may spread via email attachments that may
not normally be blocked at email gateways. Additional variants of this worm
are anticipated.
Please use this opportunity between now and
February 3 to block the worm, detect infections and eradicate the worm from
infected machines before it begins to destroy files on February
3rd.

800 hp? That's doable with mods but NOT from the factory. I just read
an article in the Dec. issue of Road & Track about the 650 hp Ruf
Porsche Rt 12 (Porsche 911 Turbo) which ran an 11 flat at 133.9 mph.
Given that, I would have to assume the Porsche you ran against had at
least 650 hp and if it was running bad like the owner said, 800 probably
isn't a stretch. Put a big enough turbo or turbos on any engine and you
can get 800 hp. 4 banger Mitsubishi AWD cars running 10's seems to be a
common occurance nowadays.

of the amazing cars I raced a couple of time was a newish turbo Porsche.
Not sure what the model was but the car was running the 10s. Wow! The
owner said the car was supposed to make 800 hp (BS?) but wasn't running
right. Is anyone familar with those cars?

I have a Flowmaster system and while it might not be the best possible

H-pipe,
the kit is relatively inexpensive and super-easy to install. I also have
a

SB so it's tough to say how my opinion of the sound might be changed by
hearing the same system on a BB. In terms of actual performance

again I don't exactly have a high performance engine. I suppose 2.5" is
enough for a SB.

I think the big picture is that too many of us our looking at our own
short term benefit, just as GM and Ford did in the 80s when they let the
Japanese take over the auto market. They went for short term quarter to
quarter gains profits so everyone in upper management could earn fat bonuses
and and stock would go up. Now we have in essense been "taken over" and more
ownership of what used to be OUR country is gradually slipping completely out
of American hands. Long term, this COULD prove to be a significant
problem for our grandchildren. We can't be sure, but I do seem to recall that
the brutality of every country we now buy from during past wars. Our "prisoner
abuses" are nothing compared to what was done to our soldiers who were
captured were subjected to in World War II and since. And... Now that our
funds are gradually funneling into the middle east for gas and oil we know
what their attitude toward personal liberties are. All that money goes toward
buying Ame! rica ... good for us today. For our children? for our
  grandchildren?
I am a bit obstinate, but I carefully look at what I'm buying and try to
stay as American as possible. From Cars to Wal Mart, I must admit it is
  getting harder and harder.

Bottom line; follow the money. Where do those profit dollars really go after
the cars are built in America?

BTW, GM is closing 9[i think] plants and laying off some 30,000

Are there any vehicles that are ENTIRELY American
built anymore?  And by that I mean without Canadian or Mexican
parts/assembly etc.?  I doubt it.  Larry makes a good point, but I
believe those Japanese cars assembled here are made with mostly Japanese
parts.  They are assembled here to avoid the customs duties associated
with finished goods, but GM and Ford do the same thing in Europe.I
guess my point is that the lines are very blurred.  People can say "Buy
American" and I'm all for it, but you have to wonder how much of the product
is really American.  Besides, the Japanese automaker pays taxes to
Uncle Sam for selling their ca! rs here, same as GM or
Ford.MattAt 12:32 PM 11/22/2005, Larry Shouse

assembled here in the United States, while many of our American vehicles

[Chevelle-list] help

2005-10-25 Thread James Strunk

Hi everyone, can anyone help me?,I purchased a used car recently, the
pass.frt. parking light has never worked, and also the acc. pedal is quite close
to the floor, resulting in only using part throttle under the hood, now here is
where it gets weird,my local auto zone manager says that because of a bad
ground, which is responsible for no parking light, the cars throttle has been
acting as a ground, which meant the cable has been heating up,causing the cable
to STRETCH resulting in the acc. pedal to sag to the floor? has ANYBODY ever
heard of such a claim? please let me here from anybody

To unsubscribe from this service you must first purchase
a Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit. The unit
can be obtained from most hardware stores and dental clinics. Be
sure to obtain the proper permits to operate the unit from the
Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Food and Drug Administration
in Washington D.C. USA. Be sure to carefully unpack the kit and
place each component in its accompanying mesh safety bag. Mount
the Pershing DF4 mesinator on top of the perforated Gerring Mach 77
refibulator and attach them using the eight-millimeter torque fork.
Be sure that the refibulator is mounted at a 66 degree angle and
properly dispersed so that it is flush with the curved section of
the Pyrex thistle tube. Place the four sections of the triangular
separation gear into the posture cylinder and lock them into place
using the band aid adhesive strip. Insert the wiggling pin into the
wobbling hole, making sure that it seated correctly. Place the D
cell battery and the eleven 9 volt batteries in the power chamber.
The device should be calibrated before operation using the optional
digital corkscrew accessory pack prior to operation. Insert the
digital corkscrew through the electronic combustion service chamber
using caution not to touch the reinforced tungsten igniter control
module and quickly turn the inverter drive to 28.6 degrees. Turn the
Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit upside down
and hit the bottom plate with a 48-ounce ball-peen hammer while
shaking the unit vigorously. Force open the door to the incineration
valve compartment and set the pressure gauge to 719 psi. Close
the door and seal it shut with duct tape. The unit should now be
properly calibrated and ready to use. Before activating the
Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit, you must
first elevate it to a height of 229 feet above sea level to insure
that the unit receives the proper oxygen level and barometric
pressure. Point the aerial to 17 degrees north by northeast to
within the parameters of the Telstar GS-2 weather satellite and
apply pressure to the wing shaft on the southern most section of the
modular accelerator. Using the special ratchet adapter supplied with
the unit, rotate the heater core to the "on" position. The "on"
position has been obtained when the green light begins to flash,
signifying that the red light is about to go off. Once the red
light is off, flip the toggle switch labeled "ON/OFF" to the "ON"
position and count to 47 before logging on to the system. Logon
using your username and password and wait for the prompt. Once
prompted you must check the box with the appropriate action you wish
to take and then press the pressure release button and turn off the
compressor while turning the hand crank at 231 meters per minute.
Next, press control, alt, delete, caps lock, shift, number lock,
escape and tab simultaneously. Press enter. You will have one second
to complete the procedure. If you fail to respond in the time limit
allowed, simply purchase a new Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription
Cancellation Unit and start from the beginning. Please remember
that this is the only way we will accept for you to unsubscribe from
this service. We have made every attempt to simplify the procedure
for your convenience. Failure to comply with the unsubscribe
policy will result in immediate termination of your subscription so
please follow the above directions closely

The hunt is over. My quarry is bagged and in the
garage tonight. It has been nearly 28 years, but I am now a Chevelle owner
again. I have been casually looking since 2001, and my quest became serious
about 5 months ago.
I was looking for a car very similar to the one I had
years ago, and was able to get pretty close. The biggest difference is this
car is automatic and the other was a 4 speed. I just could not pass this one
up, from the time if first saw it, I was hooked. Looking at it was like a
blast from the past.
The car was restored (1998) by the previous owner a
retired mechanic.
After reading everyone else’s Chevelle adventure for
the past 3 years, I will now be able to have my own. Life is good. I feel
like a kid with a new toy.

Here is a short description; I will post some
pictures soon.

Most of the time your internet provider will
give you some free webspace.  Check with them first, they usually have
some basic, yet decent tutorials.  If you want massive amounts of
pictures, and what not, you might want to look into getting your hosting
package for $5-$15 a month (plus $8 year for a domain).  This will not
only get you webspace, but an email account that will never change no matter
who you have internet through.  Most of my friends have email through
my domain.  That way they keep the same email address no matter
what.

  Filter do I use
I don't think it actually gives you any more oil at the top of
the motor because the additional oil you had to add is in the filter
A deep sump oil pan allows you to add more oil that is available for use
during a hard run (because it's common for the oil pump to pump faster than
the oil can return to the pan).  A larger filter just means more oil in
the filter.   Now, an advantage of a larger filter is that it'll
last longer (more filter surface area to use up), and you will have more oil
in the system, which give more oil for the contaminents to contamine, and more
oil to break down (lasts a bit longer).
I also use the taller PF35  (now PF 1218).
  cheers! Mike

Title: Message

Do what I didI located a pair of plain
valve covers, then I got a socket that fit the rocker nuts,,put ink around
the edge of that socket,,,I then cut 4 equal length 1/4-20 treaded rods,,then
thread them into your hds.,,go from rocker to rocker with socket,,while laying
the cover down over the socket,,effectively laying off location of each
rocker,,then use proper hole saw, and drill out each rocker location in
cover,,be sure you use proper bit, so that each hole is sized properly for the
factory rubber plugs used by G.M. in the big block covers,,presto!!! Chevy BIG block "Hemi" valve covers,,neat for adjusting you valves
too!

  Assuming you
blast them clean, just paint it as you would any other metal.  Use a
primer, then the paint.  They do get hot, and might discolor over time,
but maybe not.  I had painted (powdercoated?) covers that discolored from
dirt and grime.  When I painted my car, they stripped them and tried to
paint them body color, but there was chrome under the color I had, so they
stopped.  Chrome can't be painted over well (does not stick) so you need
  to blast it all.

I use to store my crank vertically due to space, it doesnt really matter as
long as you dont scratch the bearing surfaces.
Keep it oily to prevent rust.

If you manage to distort a crank by laying it on the floor you dont want it
in your motor.

Hi Bill,my two cents,,you've got the cover off,,do it the safe way,,start
the car,,back off adjustment until it starts to clatter,, then tighten the
nut until the clatter just stops,,then you have the option to tighten it
from1/4-1/2-3/4-to 1 full revolution,,but I would,, and have adj. mine at
1/2 turn,,mine being a 70 Chevelle big block,,the theory is for more low end
power,,adj. at 1/2-3/4 turn,,for more upper power,,go for zero lash[adj.

have ever attended as a participant, so I need a little help.  Do I need
to print up some stuff about the car & show it in a binder, or does that
kind of thing matter?  The show is sponsored by the local Pontiac

Dale,
I’m interested to hear the results of your 200R4 conversion when all is said
and done.  I remember one lister
(Kelly Hanna I think?) had done up a 200R4 and had catastrophic failure
within a few days, although I see lots and lots of 11 and 12 second turbo
Buicks, and I’m sure those guys didn’t all convert to 700R4s.  I’d really like an overdrive for my
406-powered ’70 and the 200R4 looks like a lot simpler of an install when
replacing a TH350.

Does  anyone else on the list have any
200R4 success stories?

Clint,

I can see
the need for trans fluid to come up to temp but another $450/$500 radiator
is not in my budget right now.  I figure if I give the trans a chance
to warm up a bit on those cool (LOL) 60º days, it'll be alright.  I
disbelieved the "...no fuel mileage improvement..." part as
well.   A 30% reduction in engine speed has to improve
mileage, especially when we're talking 3 to 4 hrs of steady highway
speeds.  It may even lose a bit of mileage in town due to the converter
slippage in Drive, but I can live with that.  BTW, it was Jeff I talked
to.  He wanted no part of a installation and "fabrication of the rear
mount, cutting the driveshaft, etc..."  He did mention Ken Walker (?)
but I may still take it to Phoenix Trans in Weatherford since they will
install everything. They're also a Lokar dealer so I can get the
throttle-body attachement and Lokar cable to match the
throttle.

  Chevelle Seat Upholstery
  Hey John,   I may
have to buy a set of  seat upholstery from you. The pisser is, my
upholstery is in practically mint condition. I just aquired my '69 Chevelle SS
396 after 20 years of waiting (it was my grandfathers car, he died in 1983).
My dad inherited it and did absolutely nothing with it at all, but was nice
enough to sell it to me after all these years. Anyway, I'm franticly looking
for the build sheet and I'm told that inside the seats is one of the likely
locations. This is why I may have to gain access to the inside of the seats
and may need new covers. I'm actually looking for your input on build sheet
locations. I'm new to this and just got on this mailing list but see your name
and letters in here all the time. I figured you might not mind giving me some
input. Like I said, I'm new to this and some of the VIN # breakdown info I
have gotten contradicts that my car is indeed a genuine SS which is why I am
hell bent on locating the build sheet. It would be quite a mystery if this car
was not an SS. My grandfather bought it brand new in 1969 and it was sold as
an SS. I also have quite a bit of doccumentation on the car, as well as the
protecto tag. The only way I can think of that this car isn't a true SS is if
the dealership "cloned" it in 1969. Do you know of any instances of this
happening? Anyway John, I just wanted to introduce myself (I'm Scott by the
way) and see if I could pick your brain a little. Any input you may have would
  be greatly appreciated.
  Thanks.

Dan, More than likely it is
a 3.31.  Don't forget that tire size comes into play here.  The
taller the tire, the lower (numerically) the ratio will turn out.As for
highway RPM's, I am turning 3600 RPM at 75 MPH on the highway in my 70.
It has 4.10's in it.  Some say that's too high for open road, I say
that's BS.  My car gets 15 MPG at that rate and it runs great, has over
10,000 miles on the motor.  Most say to try and keep the RPM's at or
lower than 3400 on the higway so you are good to go my friend

Dan, Both guys responding are right. The 350 needs a 180
thermostat. If you have not changed your coolant lately, try a 70/30 mix,
distilled water/antifreeze. This will protect you down to around 10 below and
will cool better than a higher antifreeze mix ratio. Also, be sure you rad.
cap is a high enough pressure cap for your system. I tried a 7 lb cap on my
283 Malibu and it would bypass and dump about a half gallon of coolant
when the engine got up to temp. A 13 lb cap cured the problem and
kept the coolant in the rad. to bring my operating temp back below
  190.
  Hope this helps.

up to about 220°F. I think the current thermostat is a 210°F
unit...
This was in stop and go traffic on a high 80's,
low 90's type of day...
I am running the stock 5 blade fan, and a
full shroud. It is a 1971 El Camino 350 engine.. in a 1964
Impala
Is this a common operating temp for this
motor?
What do you all commonly do to reduce the
temp... I used water wetter in my Mustang, and it seemed to work OK, but it
could have been the placebo effect...

Thanks people!

  Yeah, I
got the pass side in no problem. The driver side is proving to be a headache.
I'm wondering if it makes sense to remove the steering colume and see if
I can feed them in from the top.

Well, I can't be entirely sure about a
big block, but on my small block, I have to jack up the car, and lift the
motor off the mounts for the drivers side.  I lift the car for the
proper angle, and lift the motor off the mounts for just enough
clearance.  It's a pain, but it will fit.  As far as the passenger
side, nothing is required.  The starter can still be attached.
Good luck, I guarantee that you will bust a few knuckles getting it in
there.

Well, since I got so much
help on the valve covers, I'll try a harder problem. Does anyone know which
parts have to be removed to get a set of Hooker headers onto my big block 70
Chevelle? So far, it looks like the starter and the steering column have to
move. I'd HATE to have to remove the heads to get them
on.

I
need help on this one - anybody know how it's
done???

plug known to man,My 70 ss b.b. when coming out of the garage in the spring
would run ok except when I got into the throttle, then it would pop, crack, spit
something awful,I tried new plugs very spring, that would cure it,,however each
spring I had the same problem, change plugs,it would be okI finally tried
Motorcraft {shhh.!} plugs,,,never had that problem again,,those plugs have
lasted 4.yrs..,,go figure

I've  used the NGK YR5.  I've used NGK for years and
have been happy.  The set I'm about to put in is the Champion Rapid Fire
(Super), just stock replacement plugs for a '73 454.
What you need will depend on your application (i.e. heat range)

  Subject: [Chevelle-List] Timing
  Chain
  Hello
Listers...   I recently asked any if they know where I might be
able to find a new timing chain for my '70 Mali.    Actually I'm
stuck at the torsional damper. I've taken all bolts out of the engines front
cover and the accessory drive pulley off, already. I was wonder if there was
anyway I could get the torsional damper off without using the torsional damper
(harmonic balancer) remover tool that my Haynes manual specifies? And if there
isn't about how much does it cost? Any information would be greatly
appreciated.   I'm not a mechanic by any nature but I'm learning
that if you do things yourself, you gain knowledge of your auto's anatomy,
save money, and get it done faster. So I'm learning
  slowly
