RE: [Chevelle-list] Car Show Trophies
I've noticed that if entrants are voting, and they are only voting on a split ballot that also has a best of show... you get "Best of Show" winners that didn't win there class. Example: Class # 2-1950's pick-up 6-1920-1940 Chevy 10-Tri 5 Chevy 14-Mustang Best of Show So depending on what class you're in, determines who you vote on… but usually everyone will vote for best of show. Thus you get the best of show, not necessarily winning their class. [Chevelle-list] Now this is fast (off topic) sort of?
Real Acceleration Some of us may think we have experienced acceleration g forces, but read this to get a grip of what real acceleration is. But first, some useful info: One Top Fuel dragster 500 cubic inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower than the first 4 rows at the NASCAR Daytona 500. Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 1 1/2 gallons of nitro methane per second; a fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy being produced. A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to drive the dragster supercharger. With 3000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into a near-solid form before ignition. Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock at full throttle. At the stoichiometric 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture for nitro methane the flame front temperature measures 7050 degrees F. Nitro methane burns yellow. The spectacular white flame seen above the stacks at night is raw burning hydrogen, dissociated from atmospheric water vapor by the searing exhaust gases. Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. This is the output of an arc welder in each cylinder. Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during one pass. After half-way, the engine is dieseling from compression plus the glow of exhaust valves at 1400 degrees F. The engine can only be shut down by cutting the fuel flow. If spark momentarily fails early in the run, unburned nitro builds up in the affected cylinders and then explodes with sufficient force to blow cylinder heads off the block in pieces or split the block in half. In order to exceed 300 mph in 4.5 seconds dragsters must accelerate at an average of over 4G's. In order to reach 200 mph well before half-track, the launch acceleration approaches 8G's. Dragsters reach over 300 miles per hour before you have completed reading this sentence. Top Fuel Engines turn approximately 540 revolutions from light to light! Including the burnout the engine must only survive 900 revolutions under load. The red-line is actually quite high at 9500 rpm. The Bottom Line; Assuming all the equipment is paid off, the crew worked for free, and for once NOTHING BLOWS UP, each run costs an estimated US $1,000.00 per second. The current Top Fuel dragster elapsed time record is 4.441 seconds for the quarter mile (10/05/03 Tony Shumacher) The top speed record is 333.00 mph (533 km/h) as measured over the last 66' of the run (09/28/03 Doug Kalitta). Putting all of this into perspective: You are driving the average $140,000 Lingenfelter "twin-turbo" powered Corvette Z06. Over a mile up the road, a Top Fuel dragster is staged and ready to launch down a quarter mile strip as you pass. You have the advantage of a flying start. You run the 'Vette hard up through the gears and blast across the starting line and past the dragster at an honest 200 mph. The 'tree' goes green for both of you at that moment. The dragster launches and starts after you. You keep your foot down hard, but you hear an incredibly brutal whine that sears your eardrums and within 3 seconds the dragster catches and passes you. He beats you to the finish line, a quarter mile away from where you just passed him. Think about it, from a standing start, the dragster had spotted you 200 mph and not only caught, but nearly blasted you off the road when he passed you within a mere 1320 foot long race course. That, folks, is acceleration.

I think the convertors are difeerent. The starters are similar but different in the brace from starter motor housing to block. The PG's themselves are different however. There's a difference in the gear ratio, clutch pack, some sixes have holes in bellhousing for cooling. A six cylinder PG might not hold up well behind a 350. (a turbo 350 is an easy swap though) To go from six to eight or vs versa you need the proper motor mounts, radiator(and filler panel for V8), engine harness, throttle and kickdown linkages, PS hoses, exhaust. Dan, Just a question for ya, when you “finally” get it up to highway speed, and then you get on it, does it go pretty quick??? I’m guessing it does. I have a 350 that was backed by a 2speed powerglide…. I changed to a TH350, and MAN what a difference. I have a first gear that in the neighborhood of 2.5 where as the powerglide is about 1.75. I can now “Throw Smoke” when ever I feel like it, from a dead stop or rolling. I’d bet that with the tranny swap you’d get all the power you’d need (not want J). I hope this helps. Re: [Chevelle-list] white letter tires
There is a product called... "White wall cleaner". I know, crazy name!!! It's the stuff we used to use to get the blue protective lettering off the tires before we let the customer drive away. If you go down to your local tire shop, they should be able to, give (sell) you some/tell you where to get it. The stuff works wonders. It also takes that brownish gunk of the black part of the tire as well. Then you can treat them with whatever you like, starting with a VERY clean base. I hope this helps. Re: [Chevelle-list] New Wheels
Title: Message Some of your higher end tire stores have computers that do that. I know out here in the PNW we have Les Schwab Tire Centers. They have that very service. I don't know of anything online, but that sure doesn't mean it doesn't exsist. Jon Project Maliblu '66 Chevelle - Original Message - From: John W. Re: [Chevelle-list] Favorite Muffler System?
I've got a pair of Flowmasters comming off a set of Hookers on "Project Maliblu". It's certainly not "loud" but IS the sound "I" associate with muscle cars. Mustang, Shmustang!!! Re: [Chevelle-list] 66 seat pics?
I can take some of mine, but they are also redone... They look great though and I be more than happy to do that. Let me know off list. Anyone have any photos of 66 bucket seats that are finished? The guy that recovered my seats I dont think attached the listing wires. It looks more flat as apposed to curved to hug you (if ya know what I'm trying to say) I just thought if I had a good example of a pic to give the upholstery guy he would see what I'm complaining about.
[Chevelle-list] Intro
Hello everyone, I thought I'd take this chance to introduce myself. My name is Jon Bongiorno (and yes it's pronounced kinda like the pizza i.e. "DiGiorno). I'm very recently, a week ago, the pround owner of a 1966 Marina Blue Malibu. It's a 327 car with a 350 bored .030. It has a TH350 3 speed auto, formerly a 2 speed PG. I have but one question My speedometer isn't hooked up. When I got underneith it, I noticed that the bracket for the shifter will smack right into the cable. It looks as if I need a 90 degree angle that would come out of the tranny or something??? Is this an easy fix? If someone can help me that would be great! I love the list so far! I hope to be able to add to it trough my own trial and ERROR Jon Bongiorno Springfield, OR "Project Maliblue"
