RE: [Chevelle-List] Catalog descriptions
That is hilarious! Sad part is, we have called the local parts store for similar parts when a new, non-auto type person is working. Listening to them yell at the computer and ask co-workers for advice is great. I guess the 26” exhaust tip is next… Has anyone seen the ‘exhaust tip neon’ kit that is currently selling? Makes the end of the tip glow (red, green, etc). This goes along with the glowing rotors neon kit that is out there. Hey, I just redid the site (most of it) again. The first pic of my Chevelle is hidden on there. It is on the members page, under all of the links. You will notice there is a hidden link. Easy way to find it is to highlight the text.. it magically appears… Give it a few years and a few thousand dollars, and it will be nice. Later All! Kevin * Kevin M. [Chevelle-List] Companies from the mailing list
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Hello Everyone. As you may or may not recall, I am in the process of redoing a 72 Chevelle. Just found out over the weekend that the previous owner(s) replaced the driver's side quarter, but decided to mud the living h*ll out of the passenger side. So, I will be in the market for a new quarter, driver's side floor, trunk lid, and possibly two new fenders (future). Once the car is in my garage, it will probably sit for a while, due to lack of time to work on it. During this time though, I will be saving money for the future works on the Chevelle. Instead of trying to nickel and dime the car now, I would rather have a little more money to spend and be able to do it right in the future. I noticed a few websites from readers on this site that have their own companies. If they would be able to shoot me an email off-list ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), I would like to look over their websites and see what they have to offer. I normally try to help out the 'smaller' companies if they can be competitive with the larger companies. A shop down the road from work said to contact them first on any part before ordering from Summit or Jegs. I look at it this way. If he can be competitive with the prices (within a few dollars), I will save money on shipping and handling, as well as drive time to the store to pick it up and drive time in the case it is 'defective'. I should have pics of the car on my site soon, since it is coming time to update it once again. There is another Chevelle on the site that is being rebuilt. Thanks all! Kevin PS: Kelly, hope your wife is feeling better. And I hope the insurance companies attempt to work with you, instead of against of you. * Kevin M. [Chevelle-List] 1972 Chevelle Rebuild
Well, a little bio on me Just getting into cars and decided to buy a 1972 Chevelle from a friend. The body is OK (some mud), but for the price, not bad. It has the stock 350 and I am replacing the Saginaw 3spd with a Turbo 350. Right now, there is no trans in the car and the motor has a whooped cam (minimum). The car has set for the last 6 yrs as a project by the wayside. Luckily, my friend is a body man and is helping with the car. Add that to the motor man in the bunch, I am will be OK. Before the car hits the road, I plan to do some work. If someone can help me with ballpark figures, that would be great... Upgrade to front disc brakes (plan to look in salvage yards) Power Brakes Would like to upgrade to rear disc, but have not seen too many mentions of it... Suspension: shocks, springs, drop spindles Rear end: posi unit with 3.73 gears Rims and tires - street Rims and tires - strip (not a priority) Ignition System Race Exhaust with Cut-outs for open header at the track 15 Gallon Fuel Cell I am 'designing' an engine right now. Trying to find the best bang for the buck. I realize that 11's on pump gas will be difficult, but it may be possible. Even low 12's would be great. I plan to run electric accessories to maximize horsepower gains. Based on my reading, I will most likely stroke the motor on the rebuild. After the car hits the street for awhile, I will debate on the 6-71 blower vs. a big block. IF (more like WHEN) it becomes a full blown race car, I will price the better fiberglass available. As far as my past, you can tell I run with a lot of Mustang guys.. I told everyone it would be an old muscle car, an old wagon, or an 87-93 Mustang Coupe that I would build. Money and convenience landed me the Chevelle. GREAT CHOICE for me If anyone races at Norwalk, send me an email offline. Or if you are somewhat local and know where some great hangouts are, write me offline as well. Kevin M. RE: [Chevelle-List] Re: 72 malibu smallblock
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List These are all mods that I plan to do to my 350sb '72 chevelle... just trying to find the best solution since I need HP to run fast, but don't want it to be a race-only vehicle. I actually picked up a book called "How to Run 11's on a budget" 400SB was the only difference. No NOS, blower, fuel injection, etc.. It was pretty interesting reading.. I am planning on taking my time with the car. It is not my #1 priority to get it on the street. I plan to upgrade brakes and suspension (anyone done REAR disc brakes?), ignition system, and build the motor last. My car was a basket case, but for the money I paid, it was a good price. Although it has some mud in it, the body is pretty straight.. Amazing things happen when your good friend is a body man and wants to do a great job on it. I am currently looking at different motor combinations. Since the motor needs rebuilt, I am thinking about stroking it. and then later, maybe a blower... (the motor!!). Still have some time to think about it though. BTW, there is a Chevelle (not mine) on the webpage. It is going to be one BAD A$$ vehicle, especially when he decides to 'get serious' and go with the blown 502+. Have a great one! Kevin M. You didn't say what hp your 350 is or what condition it is in. A small block makes horsepower by compression & breathing. 300 to 350 hp is not that hard to get out of a 350 & it sounds like you already have the beginnings with the intake & carb. Working within a budget is tough but things like a mild cam kit, headers & an electronic ignition system are not that expensive & should fit into your budget. You don't need extravagant aluminum race heads but a good set of heads with 202 valves is a must for breathing on a 350. So are a good intake/carb & a decent set of headers. A solid shortblock making around 10 to 1 compression with the above bolt ons will make good power. The hood I can't help you with. The brakes are not really hard but do involve quite a bit of work. There are a couple of options as to how to go about it. There are kits made that will include everything you need to completely convert everything over to disks with new parts but they are somewhat expensive. You can also salvage used parts from other cars or buy & swap new/used parts from other individuals. Some of the other members can give you a lot more details on what's involved & the expense of this changeover. Good luck on your Malibu! Do this for approximately 1000-5000 miles (yes, even on rebuilt motors that have a lot of mods; not just new from the factory engines). I have also heard that you need to bring it up to operating temp a few times and then start driving it the way you expect to drive it. Confused? Yes.. Crazy? On some days... Kevin M. RE: [Chevelle-List] Corrected Altitude / USING WORD
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List OK, well I guess that makes sense. But I don't agree with that assumption, since the conditions would be different. It makes perfect sense to take the best run and place everything on a level playing field. That also makes sense why some of the cars miraculously run faster in the magazines with the Corrected Altitude, instead of just listing what was ran. Traveling racers need to know this information, but your local racer who wants fun really does not. Maybe, I should post what the corrected times would be on website. That would be interesting I am probably the culprit. I do not use WORD as the email editor, but I do have it in rich text format. I use my email FAR TOO OFTEN to not be able to utilize all of its options. There are certain times when I have thought about turning it off, but then two messages later, I need one of the options. I apologize for any inconvenience, but it also comes down to settings on everyone else's computers. I wonder why it is just now that people are asking about this. Kevin M. To me it means nothing if >you're always gonna be running the car at the same altitude range. >Now if you're a traveling racer, then it would pay to know that when >dialing in. But, if you are in Denver and you are bench racing your buddy, it is useful for comparison. You might say that you have run a 14.0 @ 100 and he says his car kills yours because he has run 13.3 @ 104. But he ran at sea level and you were in Denver. So, after correcting for altitude your car drops down to 13.1 @ 107 and handily takes him out. Correcting everyone to sea level will "level" the playing field and let people compare apples to apples. Finally, if you want to get accurate, you can get weather corrected numbers that also take temperature and humidity into account. Colder air is denser (lowering your effective altitude), and humid air is less dense, raising your altitude. The one day I was at the track (LACR Palmdale, 2900 ft), I was given correction factors that were a bit different from the table that went by. I assume that this was because they corrected for the weather as well. -- Brad Waller Redondo Beach, CA '66 Corvette Convertible, 333/00?, 4 speed, sidepipes, 13.8 @ 101 mph '67 Chevelle (exSS396), '72 355 ci block, '79 11" disks, '89 T700R4 http://ep.com/brad/yargnits66.htmlhttp://ep.com/brad/Chevelle/ [EMAIL PROTECTED] EPage Classifieds http://ep.com/ - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ Do You Yahoo!? Being that I live in Lorain, the S&H charges do not exist for me. I am starting the collection of catalogs, magazines, etc already for the Chevelle. This project car will be interesting for me, since I am new at ALL of it. Doing body work is fun (NOTE: Sarcasm), but it feels good to learn. I normally go to NRP over 42 because the track is nicer and they seem to run a better event. I know it is congested, but NRP is a little closer to me. For anyone that races at Norwalk on a regular basis, one of the drivers there from Lorain passed away this week. He raced a Pale Yellow '67 Camaro. Bremer is his last name. The car was hit in the rear and the bumper was dented up pretty good. After they gave it back to me you would have to look at the back side to tell it was repaired. It turned out better than new. COST.. $300.00 for both front and back. (1996). I'm sure prices have gone up. RE: [Chevelle-List] Computer problem
If you are using Outlook, you can go into "Tools", "Options" and "Spelling". It has an automatic spell check built in to the default. If you want, you can cancel the spell check. It should pop up and say something to the effect of "Spell Check not completed; would you like to send anyway?" Press yes, and VOILA, no spell check. If this is not the problem, post it again. I will look at other options. What mailer are you using, etc -Original Message-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of TigerguttSent: Saturday, January 19, 2002 6:58 AMTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Subject: RE: [Chevelle-List] Computer problem I have a problem concerning word. every time I reply to the list, it want include the spell control or my signature. Width? I "think" they are approximately 60" but don't hold me to that number. If you're thinking about putting one under a Chevelle,,forget it. Too much money and trouble. Dana 44 is also stamped on the housing.
