You could call Ground Up. They may be able to tell you about registering
older vehicles since they are on Long Island and they do some restoration
work there. 516-248-4567 or 800-358-2277. If they don't know, go to your
local motor vehicle agency.

Tom, would you (or anyone else) know if the same applies in NY?..or are we still
subject to the safety
inspection? Where I am upstate, we dont have emissions inspections anyway. (key word:
YET)

Hi Dave, I live in Akron(Summit County). They did make it more difficult than
the original program. Typical, the junkers applied for plates originally and
ruined it for everyone so the GOV made it more difficult. There is a "List"
of qualified cars, performance/out of production, etc. that comprise the list.
My wagon, go figure, wasn't on the list. I had to supply photographs,
articles about wagons and receipts totalling over $5,000.00. Then it was up
to their discretion. I passed. You can get the phone number from the license
bureau to call Columbus and get the specifics. Probably can get it on line as
well. Hope this helps.

Hey Mark, where in Ohio are you? I'm up in the Cleveland area.

I've heard about the Collector plates too, but I thought they closed that
loophole last year or so. A friend was gonna do that for his '89 Mustang.
Do you know of a good place to get info on how to qualify for those
collector plates?

It wasn't all there in the first place (smog stuff). A lot was missing, but
the air injection tubes, pump and valve was still intact...just removed
what was left of it and cleaned things up a bit. The egr was non-functional
as well...& the air tube on the pass side was welded shut for some
reason...no need to keep anything that wouldn't work anyway.

Alright another desmogged vehicle. I remember doing it to my 86 Cutlass.
Tore off every piece of emission control junk, gutted the converter, and
ripped off about 3000 vacuum line. also replaced the distributor/carb with
one from an older non computer controlled car. Made the car run alot better,
better gas mileage too beleive it or not. This made the chevy engine
transplant much easier last december. I just have to hope i don't get
checked at a motor vehicle checkpoint. Think it may be time to move out of
NJ soon :) The funny thing is the 350 I dropped in the car has lower
emissions than the 307 I took out of the car.

We did some work on Jana's Elky yesterday...found out it may have been a
six from the factory due to the one core radiator we found (unless they put
those in 305's). We removed everything but the computer. It seems to do
fine with the stock Quadrajet and distributor, so if it ain't broke...

The engine runs as smooth as silk now. We found a code on the motor which
the neighbor says means it's an '88 Goodwrench motor. We thought since the
fan shroud said 305 that it came with that motor, but it could have been
from another car (I can't imagine a factory 305 with a one core radiator).

Anyway it was a full days work to get all that EPA crap out of the
car...looks cleaner now and runs a lot smoother...should run cooler now as
well.
