Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List I'll agree the Holley hit a whole lot harder than the Edlebrock ever dreamed, but I don't like having to mess with it every time I turn around... it probably helps that I cann't fine tune very well either (I have old man hot rodders that know what they are doing to do that ;) ) It deffinatly took a little getting used to the 'brock but I really like it better b/c I never have to touch it hardly. Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List I would just about do it but then I would be taking a bigger loss Anybody want a 750 Holley with vaccum secondaries? Give me a price, I paid $200 for it (I believe I'll go home and make sure) had it on the car for a year, been drained and in the box for almost 2. Any takers? It would help with the funds on putting Tenacious back togather. Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List I've had my Holley on for 10 yrs now with no problems except once, early on. Was running one of those glass fuel filters and it let dirt in that caused the needle to stick. I changed to a Fram inline filter and no problems at all. Seems those glass filters only stop rocks. Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List I have to agree that the edelbrock is by far the best bolt on and run carb. However, I was at the dragstrip and after bolting on a 390 cfm holley on my 283 (yes the nascar mandated one) i got five tenths out of it. It knocked down 18 mpg on the highway and had unreal throttle response. Contrary to popular belief it only became restrictive at 6,000. It was the best $10 i could have spent on my car. And once i dialed it in it ran like a top. and with the right model all holleys run like that, you might just have to play with it. Call Holley and ask them which one is best. Re: [Chevelle-List] carb / 66
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List I just rid of my Holley 650 and purchased and Edelbrock 1406. I just bolted it on and ran. I have not touched the carb. I was always adjusting my Holley. The float on the front was alway flooding the carb. I would get it right and then a month or so, I would have to readjusted. I love my Edelbrock. I love mine after I fought with my brand new Holley to keep it running right I finally broke down and bought another carb, I threw it on never touched it until last summer and I love it. Before I wrecked my car I was boasting 20 mpg out of my 396 on the highway and 14-18 city driving as long as I stayed out of the throttle. As for your sons' 66, how did the brake swap go? Re: [Chevelle-List] carb / 66
Hello I just bought a Edelbrock QuadraJet carb for my ''75 Chevy. It is very a nice carb. Hotrodders tend to want to look at the factory (style) carbs as something that is in the way of making big horsepower, but the Q-jets are the most drive-able carbs around. By this I mean, that they tend to have the attributes that GM thought were important, quick starting, smooth idle, good responsiveness, fuel economy, and just all around nice to drive characteristics. Hotrodders (of which I am one) often tend to worry about horsepower. Quite often, the above attributes that make a car enjoyable to drive, are not even on the hotrodders list of priorities. So to make a short story long: my wife's cars all get Quadra-Jets. I recommend a new Edelbrock Quadra-Jet and a inline fuel filter, because the fuel filter in a Quadra-Jet is spring loaded. When the filter plugs up, the fuel pressure will push the filter out of the way. That is great for getting you home, but it tends to ruin the carb by plugging it with dirt. When you spend five hundred dollars for a carburetor, that is not a good compromise. Put in a Fram G2 filter (couple of bucks) and change it every tune up. Re: [Chevelle-List] carb / 66
I have a 1406 on my '69 Chevelle with no problems over the past two years. I actually bolted it on and have not adjusted it yet. It runs fine right out of the box. After I fine tune it, I expect it will run even better. Re: [Chevelle-List] carb / 66
Are the Edelbrock carbs any good? I have an Edelbrock 1406 on my Elky and it performed very well until recently. The choke coil is gone and the every once in awhile it stumbles onff the start. Considering the carb costs less than the new Holley (which is 'sposed to be the neatest thing since sliced bread) and the fact that mine is now five years old, I'd say it's a very good choice. It is calibrated for mileage over performance, get the manual choke model (1405?) for performance. Kelly C. Hanna
