Re: [Chevelle-list] Interior Bracket Sheet Metal 70
Not available unless you find a good used one or repair it. If you have a sheet metal brake and some 16 gauge steel, you can repair it pretty easily. I just finished repairing the ones from my convertible. [Chevelle-list] Interior Trunk Question
On the trunk floor of a 70 model there are holes on each side near the fenders - looks like two on the drivers side and one on the passenger side. Is there a plate or something that bolts in that position to prevent items from falling in that space? My car has nothing on either side and am wondering what is supposed to be there. Anyone know? Thanks, Jerry Wells ACES 5923

Re: [Chevelle-list] interior questions
Scott is giving us very good advice. Something else to avoid is the "tar & paper" insulation from the local building supply store. In hot climates, that stuff will melt & run, making for a stinky mess. If you do the job right the first time, you won't have to worry about doing it over. Exactly, I bought it but have not yet installed as I want to finish the headliner.a The FATMAT product I got my on EBAY at 1 dollar per square foot and it's a .080 Butyl aluminum clad product that has a sticky side to it. My friend was kind enough to let me use his heat gun, so in the near future I should be installing it. Dynamat is terribly expensive. mike f. --- Matthew Post <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Here's a cheaper alternative to > Dynamat..haven't personally used it > yet, but I plan to: > > http://www.fatmat.com/ > > -Matt > > At 08:50 AM 4/21/2005, EXT-Jasper, Garry W wrote: > >Pat > > > >Thanks will check it out. > > > >Garry > > > >-Original Message- > >From: Pat [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > >Sent: Thursday, April 21, 2005 8:37 AM > >To: 'The Chevelle Mailing List' > >Subject: RE: [Chevelle-list] interior questions > > > > > >Check out this stuff.it works great > > > >http://www.dynamat.com/ > > > >Pat > > > >68 Convt. > > > > > >-Original Message- > >From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > >[mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On > Behalf Of EXT-Jasper, Garry > >W > >Sent: Thursday, April 21, 2005 11:29 AM > >To: Chevelle Mailing List (E-mail) > >Subject: [Chevelle-list] interior questions > > > >All > > > >I have the interior of my 71 gutted including dash > removal, time to start > >putting it back together. Mike, On the 66/67 the book says " the upper portion of the dash was painted 0 degree gloss, and the lower 60 degree gloss in both 66 and 67." If black the paint codes for 67 are Dupont 60 degree is 88 and 0 degree is 4428-L. Ditzler is 9248 for 60 and 9317 for 0. Randy, The restoration guide says " The upper portion should be painted in 0 degree gloss and the lower portion in 30 degree gloss." The paint color codes they list are in Dupont, 30 degree is 99L and 0 degree is 4428L. In Ditzler it's 9000 for 30 and 9317 for 0. Your auto paint store should be able to match one of these codes. Re: [Chevelle-list] interior coating question
its just a thick tar coat to stick the next layer of insulation , the best way is to truckbed coat both side of the metal, then lay in your dynomat cost a few hundred but sure gets the job done, and if you have some minor rusting that will take care of it, good luck rick

For a factory seam sealer I use Speedgrip. It is a urethane structural adhesive. RE: [Chevelle-List] Interior
Hi Bob, There are 2 major suppliers, namely PUI and ICP. We carry the ICP stuff because it is a more accurate reproduction. Some people who are less interested in originality like the PUI stuff because it's more puffy (PUI will happily admit to the puffiness thing). PUI does have a "gold line" that is less puffy and more accurate compared to original, but it is heinously expensive compared to ICP. If you are interested in the ICP stuff, send me an email off-list. I'll get some color swatches out to you and give you a good price. Re: [Chevelle-List] Interior paint question
Hello I am just finishing up repainting the metal dash in a 64 Malibu SS, using # 916 1964 GM code Daytona Blue Metalic, and used PPG Paint from Born Paint Company in Peoria Illinois. They mixed up the paint to code and guys, it looks beautiful. And I haven't got done yet. Still gets wet sanded one more time, sprayed and then clear coated. But I can already see myself Tom - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [Chevelle-List] Interior paint question
Mikey, I used spray cans of Dupli-Color paint on my dash, A-pilliars, etc. But I think that because the paint is thinner than what would be used in a spray gun, the prep work is very important. I wet sanded, primered, wet sanded, sprayed, and cleared all the stuff I painted, and other than a little scratch I put in while installing my dash bezel, it looks very good. Dan McIntosh 65 Malibu
Re: [Chevelle-List] Interior paint question
I attempted to repaint the metal part of the dash on my 69, what a pain in the rear that was. Neither the primer nor the paint would stick. I must have cleaned it with multiple metal preps, paint thinner and anything else I could think of. I even sanded it down to bare metal. Just be prepared for it to be difficult. OPG sells exact matching colors ina spray can for this application. Tom - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I'm doing a little face lifting to the car... collecting better condition items, but I would like to re-spray the interior metal and the glove box door. Does anyone make a rattle can type touch up or spray for it? I have no paint skills except the chesey rattle can method and have found decent results can be achieved with proper prep. As I said the car isn't a show car by any means, but would like to make my dash metal look a bit nicer to my eye. Thanks Mikey

oops, I read an e-mail someone wrote about a light blue interior, but I erased it before I could reply. My stock interior was light blue with cloth inserts. I could only find this new through Year One, but I was not willing to pay the difference in price over vinyl. I ordered my new upholstery from NPD for $200, all vinyl, in light blue with dark blue inserts. I think it looks very nice, although I may be partial seeing as to how its in my car. And hey, if you dont like em, you can always send them back. Dan McIntosh 65 Malibu
Re: [Chevelle-List] Interior heater/ac control light
Well, no one responsed to this email, but I found the problem Once again it is poor aftermarket parts, this time Ashley. I replaced the plastic len on my heater/AC control center which came with the black backing. On the right hand side of this control center is where the light goes. If you remove the clear lens cover and the black backing, you will see a green clear lens which covers the open where the light is. The black plastic was covering up this lens. The plastic lens is beveled on the right side to act as a prisms to reflect the light across the lens, lighting it. So there you go, if the black plastic is covering up the light and the prisms end of the plastic, nothing will light up. I cut the black plastic on that end and everything is OK. Hope that this my help someone else. I pulled the socket out today and the bulb is working. I put in a larger bulb today, but I still do not have any light on the controls. Why is that? There is only one bulb on the right side of unit to light the control, but no light is showing. I am not sure how this one bulb is to light the whole control unit, but that is what I have. Does anyone know what is happening. Keith [EMAIL PROTECTED] See my Chevelle: http://home.mindspring.com/~keithc/index.html

first, would check out wiring to door switchs, sounds like poss. grounded wire, next go after head light switch as every thing is wired through this (reason ask vehicle/year was some have sequencial lighting witch will affect this operation) let me know it works out Robert, I'll try that, thanks for the details. I'll let you know what I find out. The Hannas 2 Elks Ranch

Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Here's a puzzler for you electrical guysI have the kind of interior lights that go off after a short delay when the doors are closed. The other day they stayed on. I pulled the 30 amp delay fuse and replaced it and they still will not go off. My door locks are on the same fuse so without it they no longer work (except with the alarm's keyless function). I am not very versed in this type repair...am I going to have to take it to a shop to find a short, or is there something else I can check? Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List While we are on the subject of paints, is there a match for the dark green color in the 1969 Malibu's. I need to repaint the metal part of the dash. If so, who makes it and is there a number, ie Krylon, etc. Thanks Tom - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I would be inclined to treat these pieces the same as any exterior paint. Wait 30 days for all of the solvents to fully evaporate from the painted surfaces. Waxes and protectants can trap solvents under the surface of the paint film which is known to cause the finish to dull irreversibly. This is also known as die back. Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Hey everyone, Ive been on this list for over a year now but for the past coupla months my mailbox has been really backed up with 500+ messages, it doesnt make much sense to respond to a thread that died a month ago. Anyways, Im doing up the interior on my 72 and have a couple of questions for you guys. 1. I am doing a bench to buckets swap and would eventually like to put in a console or at least a B&M or Hurst floor shifter (the car is an automatic). Is there any welding or floor pan modification I should do now while I am painting it and its easy to get at? The console is a little bit out of my budget at this point but if anyone has an old one to sell let me know. 2. Anyone find replacement moldings for door panels? The set Im recovering is good except for that silver tape and I was considering painting in silver lines like pinstripes. 3. For those of you who painted/dyed hard plastic and vinyl pieces is there any amount of time you should wait before applying a protectant (like armor all) ? I dont want the new color to fade. thanks for any been there/done that advice, ponderings, casual musings, etc. -Dan '72 Malibu - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [Chevelle-List] Interior stuff
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List For the console you will have to weld on one bracket. YOu will also need the bucket seat conversion brackets welded on the floor. I did this to mine. I used leather shoe dye to recolor the console base as well as my dash pad. I waited about 48 hours before amoralling it. Color still looks good. No chipping of any kind.
