Re: [Chevelle-list] bellhousing needed
I may have one. This is for the small (10.4") clutch/flywheel, right? I took off a 3858403 when I swapped to the larger clutch and I think I still have the old one. It is in pretty good shape with some really minor cracks. Re: [Chevelle-list] Bellhousing question
Joe, no numbers that I see unless I am not looking in the right place. I can tell you the flywheel that was on the truck was a 14". I have the complete shot clutch, pressure plate and flywheel on a shelf with the bellhousing. Hope that helps. Carl Blab-away for as little as 1¢/min. Make PC-to-Phone Calls using Yahoo! Joe, I don't know the number of the bellhousing but it came off a 79 C10. Sounds good on the brackets, let me know. Carl New Yahoo! Messenger with Voice. Call regular phones from your PC and save big.

I already ordered the bellhousing today, your truck bellhousing is it a 661?? If you wait some guy next week wants my 350 engine if he doesn't take the brackets which I think he will not, then I will be glad to sell you my brackets Joe P.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Bellhousing question
You don't need to have a 621 bellhousing, you can use a 444 casting as well. Dig deep if you are after a 621 housing. You can use a truck bellhousing also, you just need a bushing on the bearing retainer since the hole is a bit bigger. Tom

Mike, Thanks! I've not messed with too many manual trans cars and the truck six I have had a bigger flywheel and clutch but I thought it had the same size opening in bellhousing. Maybe I should look for that. Might be that behind a 250 they didn't bother with a big housing. Re: [Chevelle-list] BELLHOUSING
You're welcome. I also just found that you can get brand new GM alum bellhousings from Ground Up http://www.ss396.com (2nd hand info, 3rd hand info to you). And Ebay has several listings for bellhousings (which I did confirm, and cheap too!). Bear in mind there are 6 different part #s for GM auto bellhousings. I have a buddy who may be sending me the details, and I'll post it all on a page. Mike Quoting James Colgan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > THANKS MIKE. Re: [Chevelle-list] BELLHOUSING
The typical pick-up truck (1/2 ton, 3/4 ton) with a 4sp behind a typical SBC/BBC have a larger bearing retainer opening (5") compared to the cars (4 5/8"). http://www.5speedtransmissions.com/GmTruckBellhousingInfo.pdf shows more detail, including pics. These bell housings can be used, but will require a special made adapter ring to accommodate the larger opening which in turns requires machining to your bearing retainer to "lock" the adapter ring in place. Beyond that, I'm pretty sure the truck bells are suitable for use in our cars. Hope that helps a bit. RE: [Chevelle-list] bellhousing
Title: Message Ok. Edmond is just up the road. You can see everything off the car at http://www.dalesplace.com/forsale/trans.htm. I missed getting a few bolts (trans to bellhousing comes to mind). All it's really missing is the frame bracket for the ball stud, the ball stud for the engine and it could definately use a boot for the fork. Clutch and disc you may want to use for cores although there in good shape...I would trade them for new ones just because it's already out and wouldn't have to do it again in 6-mo or a year. I also have a brand new spherical clutch linkage kit from Speed Direct (http://www.speeddirect.com/images/pages/clutch_linkage_large.jpg) that I never got around to installing that goes with it. RE: [Chevelle-List] Bellhousing question...
Gents, I know this one. It's weird, but true..I know because I have one! In the beginning of the 80's GM started buying "New Process" trannies from Chrysler and made the 4th gear in these trannies less than a 1:1 ratio to improve gas milage and I assume to meet the new tougher federal fuel economy requirements. Just a guess on why here. So the bolt pattern fits on GM engines and supposedly this thing will swap out straight with a TH350 because they are the same exact length when all is said and done...or within a 1/4 inch or so, from what I have read. In any case, up until somewhere between the mid and late 80's these 4 speed trannys were used in the Chevy Trucks. They are obviously beefier in at least some respects than a car tranny. How much and in what ways I am not sure, not an expert on them here, but I do have some resources on the net bookmarked on them. I have that same exact bellhousing or I might be bidding on that one. I bought it for the fact that I was told it was a stronger tranny AND the fact that 4th gear is an overdrivewill make for better mileage on long trips to car shows. I don't have mine in yet, and have yet to find someone that have put one in and has used it yet. Several are in the process of doing so however. I find it interesting because the 396 engine I bought came out of a truck as well. Now all I need is a truck posi unit for the rear and I can really "HAUL" in my Chevelle :) Steve -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of NoNeck Sent: Friday, August 16, 2002 10:39 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] Bellhousing question... [Chevelle-List] Bellhousing question...
I am cleaning out my garage because we are moving, and I'm listing a bunch of stuff on Ebay. I am getting rid of an aluminum bellhousing that I had on my 454 with 11 inch clutch. All the ones on ebay are 681's, but this is part number 460486. Anybody know anyhting about this bell? I thought only the 681's were for the big clutch, but this one looks almost identical to the 681. I believe it was from a 72 Chevelle originally but I cant find any other casting numbers on it. Even the 460486 seems like a weird number as it is a different configurarion than usual .Didn't most Chevy numbers start with 3? and have 7 digits? If anyone here is interested, I have pics. I'll take any reasonable offer also. Thanks! Josh Gin (NoNeck) Visit my Chevelle website www.NoNecksChevelle.com
