Ken,
I believe that there are some that bid their stuff up(by having a friend
do it). The key is to know how much the item is worth and how much you are
willing to spend. I picked up another set of LS-5 heads and Intake for my 70
Chevelle for $125.00..another thing to remember is shipping.. it cost $100.00
to get those parts to me.
Buyer beware..there is lots of junk for sale. Be sure to ask all necessary
questions before bidding. A nice piece to one person is scrap to another.
The pictures don't always tell the story.

eBay frowns very heavily on people bidding on their own items or using a
shill to increase the price. I've had it happen to me and have reported
them to eBay's Safe Harbor. They used to have a feature that let you see
what a bidder/winner has bid on in the past. They also used to keep bid
items on file for 30 days so you could go back at least that far. Don't
know if they still do and I'm sure the practice continues. I would imagine
that quite often they either bid themselves out of a sale or their wares are
worth more to them than the general public at a given time. Unfortunately,
you run into jerks everywhere and eBay is big enough now to have more than
their share.

All-in-all, I've had good experiences both buying and selling. As others
will tell you, bid what you're willing to pay and ask lots of questions. If
you don't get what you want today, it'll probably come up again.

It happens all the time, especially on the more popular items. The sellers
bid against themselves to see how high they can raise the price. Then if
nobody outbids them, they contact the highest real bidder privately with
some story about how the buyer backed out, and they offer it to that person
at their last bid. This is a very effective way to jack up the final selling
price.

It wouldn't be that hard to do. I'd be wary of any situation where I
thought that was happening. Skip that item and go to favorites in my ebay.
There you can have searches sent to your inbox on whatever you're looking

Ebay has a strict policy against this. Could it still happen... YES. Does
it happen... I would say in most cases... NO. I have purchased many items
off of Ebay. Do your homework. When I Bid, I usually know what an item is
worth... but what is more important... is what I am willing to pay for it...
even if it is MORE than it is worth. Some items you just cant get... and you
have to pay the price ... if AND only if you really want that item. If the
bid gets too high... just move on. IF you do suspect a seller bidding up
his/her item, check out the previous bids (by clicking on the link). You
wont see the price increments, but you will see their name. If you see a
bidder in there over and over and suspect that its the seller... I just
simply would not bid on the item anymore. I still believe that most people
out there are honest. knock on wood, so far I have not been ripped off,
the item(s) were delivered as promised and in the shape advertised. Now this
is not to say I wont get ripped off in the future (there are probably
hundreds of horror stories), but I am willing to take my chances.

But it could just be somebody who really wants the item and doesn't realize
that the only bid that matters is the last one.

I know a lot of people frown on sniper bidding but it's the only way I buy
anything on ebay. I wait until a minute before the auction closes and if
it's still at a price I'm willing to pay, I put in a bid. I don't use any
special software and I am on a dialup connection. I have received nastygrams
from people b*tching about how they watched the item for a week and then I
took it out from under them. I simply inform them that I watched it for a
week too, and just didn't bid early because the last bid is the only one
that counts, and early bids just drive up prices.

I got a few nastygrams on that too. I asked eBay about that some time
back and they actually suggested sniping as a legal way to bid...as long
as you didn't use any software to do the bidding for you. I keep two copies
of my browser open - one with the item and one with a potential bid. Keep
refreshing the item screen to see any last minute bids and be ready to place
a bid in the other screen. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. As
long as they have bidding that ENDS at a specific time, bidding at any time
is fair game.

A follow up to my previous submission. I am honest and generally accept that
others are as well. I learned a life lesson on Ebay
Unfortunately I got screwed on a deal. I was not the high bidder on an
auction for a set of heads. After the auction the seller and I decided on a
price for him to set me up with heads ported and ready to go just as in the
auction. I sent a money order for $960.00 to cover the heads and shipping.
It has been a year and a half and you know the rest of the story..No heads..
No money Returned.
According to South Carolina BBB the company James Williams Racing Engines
doesn't even exist. I got screwed..what am I going to do take him to small
claims and spend $2000 doing it? I live in Ohio.

What I am saying is do it through Ebay or at least use Paypal or a payment
type that will allow you (customer) some options if things go bad.

Sorry for the rant
Walt
