I put up my first Item on Ebay but didn't get the pictures to work in time. Does any one have any tips for this. I also put a reserve price on them because they are mint parts and don't want to give them away. Ken: ebay has strict rules against doing that. You can type in a bidders name and see what he has bid on or type in what a seller has sold and see who has bid. Larry

Walt: if this happened on ebay you could of filed a claim they do have insurance for this. also you can file a claim (small claims court) in your own state against some that lives somewhere else. also if you sent him money and he didn't send you the parts you may have postal fraud. i wouldn't give up. larry

true john very true. i have received nasty comments from several people too. i only bid on something early if i I'm watching too much stuff. i have found out sniping is the only way to keep people from following my bidding too. several times i have been out bid by same person on items i had bid early. i quit doing that and this person now only bids on the stuff i bid early on. I learned a life lesson on Ebay Unfortunately I got screwed on a deal. I was not the high bidder on an auction for a set of heads. After the auction the seller and I decided on a price for him to set me up with heads ported and ready to go just as in the auction. I sent a money order for $960.00 to cover the heads and shipping. It has been a year and a half and you know the rest of the story..No heads.. No money Returned. According to South Carolina BBB the company "James Williams Racing Engines" doesn't even exist. I got screwed..what am I going to do take him to small claims and spend $2000 doing it? I live in Ohio. What I am saying is do it through Ebay or at least use Paypal or a payment type that will allow you (customer) some options if things go bad. I asked eBay about that some time back and they actually suggested "sniping" as a legal way to bid...as long as you didn't use any software to do the bidding for you. I keep two copies of my browser open - one with the item and one with a potential bid. Keep refreshing the item screen to see any last minute bids and be ready to place a bid in the other screen. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. As long as they have bidding that ENDS at a specific time, bidding at any time is fair game. I have purchased many items off of Ebay. Do your homework. When I Bid, I usually know what an item is worth... but what is more important... is what I am willing to pay for it... even if it is MORE than it is worth. Some items you just cant get... and you have to pay the price ... if AND only if you really want that item. If the bid gets too high... just move on. IF you do suspect a seller bidding up his/her item, check out the previous bids (by clicking on the link). You wont see the price increments, but you will see their name. If you see a bidder in there over and over and suspect that its the seller... I just simply would not bid on the item anymore. The sellers bid against themselves to see how high they can raise the price. Then if nobody outbids them, they contact the highest "real" bidder privately with some story about how the buyer backed out, and they offer it to that person at their last bid. I've had it happen to me and have reported them to eBay's Safe Harbor. They used to have a feature that let you see what a bidder/winner has bid on in the past. They also used to keep bid items on file for 30 days so you could go back at least that far. Don't know if they still do and I'm sure the practice continues. I would imagine that quite often they either bid themselves out of a sale or their wares are worth more to them than the general public at a given time. Unfortunately, you run into jerks everywhere and eBay is big enough now to have more than their share. All-in-all, I've had good experiences both buying and selling. As others will tell you, bid what you're willing to pay and ask lots of questions. If you don't get what you want today, it'll probably come up again.
