RE: CCDA (DESGN 640-861) ....... A BEAST ???? [7:73770]
What exactly are you lacking experience with; IPv6, VoIP, SAFE, Network Design? This new exam is much more difficult than the previous version. As a matter of opinion, too difficult for an associate exam! If you haven't run across it yet, I also wrote an exam review located here; http://www.tcpmag.com/exams/article.asp?EditorialsID=71 Have you also read Pricilla's book--Top Down Network Design? -Original Message- From: Cisco Nuts [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, August 09, 2003 7:39 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: CCDA (DESGN 640-861) ... Do you mean you are a Cisco trainer, a CCSP sort of? Any pointers that you can provide? NDA withstanding ofcourse!! This is the only certification left for me and the one I need to have my official CCDP cert. mailed to me and thus I have been searching the web for any useful info. pertaining to this exam? What are the type of questions, ex. a long case study for me to read first and then answer questions based on that case study? How many? Arcane questions on SAFE and IPV6?? What's the format like? Any specific topics that I need to dwell on? I am using the Cisco Press CCDA exam certification guide for the old exam as well as the new Sybex book by Lammle and Barkl (not very useful IMHO). Are there anything else like exams/notes that I can buy that would be helpful? Thank you. RE: CCDA Study material [7:71111]
Priscilla has hit the nail on the head as usual! If you don't have the experience with Cisco's AVVID, SAFE and voice architecture design, you should wait a few months for the self-study guides from companies such as Cisco Press and Sybex before tacking the CCDA DESGN 640-861 exam. I took the exam late last year when it was in beta and it's a real bear for an intro-level certification. I wrote an exam review you might want to look at for more information. Good luck! http://tcpmag.com/Exams/article.asp?EditorialsID=71 -Original Message- From: Priscilla Oppenheimer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, June 23, 2003 3:55 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: CCDA Study material [7:7] CiscoNewbie wrote: Hi all. I am going up for my CCDA cert and would like to know what are the recommended books and material to study with? Nothing is out yet for the new version of the test, as far as I know. Your best bet would be to take the instructor-led class, if you can afford it. With a good instructor, I think DESGN could be a really great class. It's got tons of meat now, much more than before. It has a big focus on systems analysis as it is taught at universities, as a real discipline, not just a bunch of hand-waving. The class also has a huge scope, covering almost everything you ever wanted to know related to campus and enterprise networks, from business (which they call social or organizational) goals, technical goals, topologies, architectures, modular design, addressing (including IPv6), routing, voice, network management, and security. One focus is on the SAFE architecture, so look that up on Cisco's site and learn it. There's also some AVVID stuff Many of the course modules are partially based on my book Top-Down Network Design. Many of the modules say that Top-Down Network Design is recommended reading. Top-Down Network Design doesn't cover some newer topics, though, such as SAFE and AVVID, although it did cover voice in a limited fashion, since Cisco has been harping on that for years now. DESGN covers voice in gory detail, however. It seems to have all of the old CVOICE course in it. Each module in DESGN has many chapters, each of which is literally hundreds of pages long. The person turning it into a book (not me unfortunately) is going to have a heyday. :-) I haven't taken the new test, but if it really tests all that's in the course, it's going to be one of the hardest tests out there (and that's a good thing. It's about time design got some respect. :-) Anyway, bottom line: if you can take the older version of the test, then there's lots of study materials. If you have to take the newer version, then you should take the instructor-led DESGN class or wait a few months for study material. Odette II [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Sunday, January 05, 2003 5:58 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: PIX behind DSL router [7:60307] Might I inject that, unless there is some sort of out of the ordinary DSL service configuration, you could perhaps enable bridging on the 675 and assign the public address of the DSL service to the Ethernet port on the 675. This would then make it possible (provided you have more than just one IP address assigned to the customer end of the circuit) for you to configure the outside interface of the PIX with a public address, and the inside with a private address. The alternative would be to purchase a SpeedStream modem (or some other compatible DSL modem) (off of e..b..a..y.. perhaps) and configure it for bridging. Then your public address would definitely be assigned to the outside interface of the PIX, and your problem solved. Just an idea though... you might have already thought of it. -Mark Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=60383t=60307 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I'm trying to configure a PIX to sit behind a Cisco 675 DSL router (or is it a modem in this case) and I'm not having much luck. RE: OT finding station trying to become MasterBrowser [7:58701]
Since the client does support NetBIOS, you could try using net send at the command line of another client to send a message to the user by computer name and ask them to call the support desk. Of course if it's a Windows 9x client they would have to be running Winpopup to receive your message. You could also use the remote shutdown utility from Microsoft to reboot the computer in x minutes and send a message along with a reason which again could be contact the support desk. -Original Message- From: Priscilla Oppenheimer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, December 06, 2002 11:23 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: OT finding station trying to become MasterBrowser [7:58701] I don't think there's any answer to this, but I thought I would check. The problem is, it's a large flat network, so the IP address comes from a huge pool and doesn't help identify a network segment. RE: DCN/CID exam difficulty [7:56319]
The new beta CCDA exam is much more difficult than the current exam and you are correct; the new CID exam as of earlier this year is a joke!Peter Walker : CISSP, CSS1, CIP wrote: Although I basically did well in the DCN exam overall, I am convinced that were it not for what I know from my previous CCNP/CCIP studies, I would have failed this exam. ie I scored 100% on all the technology areas (Lan protocols, wan technologies, bridging/switching, routing protocols and Network management), but scored poorly on the core CCDA areas. Then when I came to the CID exam, I went in expecting a really tough exam (based on what I have heard here and other places) and ended up completing the exam in less than 30 minutes and passing. So, the crux of the issue is ... was my experience unusual or has the difficulty of these exams changed recently. Admitedly I do feel that I actually learnt a lot in my study for the exams, but somehow I almost feel cheated. There is a lot of satisfaction to be gained from pushing yourself, learning a load of new stuff and then passing a difficult exam (ie validating your knowledge), and this time I dont seem to feel that sense of accomplishment. OK, time for me to stop rambling on. Any thoughts anyone? I couldn't find anything either. Hmm. Doesn't bode well for the beta. It sounds like you would have to have access to the beta class to pass the beta test. That's not good. The old CCDA was passable by someone with design experience even if they didn't know Cisco made-up marketing terms. And I think that was a good thing. :-) Also, the old class taught design methods that could be applied regardless of new marketing solutions. The new approach may be more cookbook or based on specific models, which I think would be unfortunate. If you read most descriptions of specific models, they say this may not work for your network. It's better to teach methods that will work for any network. Back to the so-called Enterprise Composite Network Model, my guess is that it has something to do with Cisco's SAFE security blueprint. CIT 640-606 exam update [7:47160]
The CCNP CIT exam pool of questions was revised recently and the new exam number is 640-606, but the questions on the new exam are still multiple choice and there are a few drag and drop or pick and place if you prefer. This exam is no more difficult than the prior version in my opinion and it shouldn't give you much trouble once you've taken the three other CCNP exams. The exam details as of June 21, 2002 are 58 questions in 90 minutes and the passing score is 776 on a scale of 300-1000. I will be writing a complete article on my exam experience and my recommendations for tackling this one which will be available soon at www.TCPMag.com Good luck on your next exam! I've never taught an intro class before. ;-) The textbook will be Wendell Odom's Cisco CCNA Exam #640-607 Certification Guide. I didn't choose it, but I'm fine with it. I have some questions, however: Wendell covers Catalyst 1900 configuration in quite a bit of detail. Cisco's list of topics for 640-607 doesn't include this, so I'm not planning to teach it, and in fact, we won't have a switch in the lab probably. Will this be OK? Does anyone know if the 640-607 test has Catalyst 1900 configuration questions?? Does anyone know if the test (which now includes router simulation questions) allows one to use abbreviations for commands? (such as cop run start instead of copy running-config startup-config)? Token Ring doesn't support multicast (He says this many times.) I know IEEE 802.5 does officially support it. I also know that many Token Ring NICs didn't support it in the early 1990s. Didn't they fix that??? I would have thought that Token Ring NIC vendors would have added support for multicast by now. Thanks! The new CCNA 640-607 exam [7:38504]
Here's my brief feedback on the new CCNA 640-607 exam. I took the exam 3-15-02. I received 50 questions with a time limit of 75 minutes and a minimum passing score of 849. I received 2 router simulator questions requiring the knowledge to configure a router for access and reconfigure a router after problems had occurred. All other questions were multiple choice with one or more correct answers as noted in the question. The big question that most people have is; will my CCNA 507 exam materials still prepare me for the new 607 exam. The answer is yes. The exam content has not changed and if you know the material and have practiced with real or simulated routers, you will have no problems. I have taken the CCNA 407, and 507 exams and I also have my CCNP and CCDP. Please don't send me questions directly asking what's on the exam as I will only reply with, sorry I am under NDA. Good luck to you. CID exam has changed [7:37074]
The CID exam was recently updated. The new objectives are on the web site. The SNA and extensive ATM coverage is gone. Also Appletalk, IPX, DLSW, are gone as well. The exam is 90 minutes long with 75 questions and the passing score is 755. The Cisco Press CID study guide is OK but the CID exam guide is terrible. They both have extensive SNA coverage, but like I said, is not part of the exam any longer. I highly recommend the Top-Down Network Design book as the new CID guide. Besides being a great book, it has all that you'll need for the CID exam provided you are a CCNP. In my opinion, the new CID exam is not anymore difficult than the CCNP exams. Good luck to you. VJ Compression on ISDN BRI [7:10727]

The problem is fixed with a cold restart. Both of the BRI channels appear to be ready but I am unable to ping anything outside of my network. Microsoft.com Blackout
Microsoft has confirmed that its corporate Web sites have become unavailable due to an as yet unidentified technical problem ... ... for me it is not unidentified ;-) it is a nameresolution problem of the nameservers in the msft.net domain. I get a port unreachable message from there and if you connect to these dns-servers with nslookup you can't list anything (no, it not a query refused ;-)), on the other side you can connect to all ms-newsgroup with the ip-address only, so the whole *.microsoft.com is affected _ FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
