2001-02-20 Thread Clayton Dukes

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone here have any exposure to Cisco Info Center?
I have some NMS design questions regarding it's use.

Re: Subnet mask question..

2000-10-14 Thread Clayton Dukes

The easiest thing in the world to do is just memorize the subnet table. If
you do this, then just write out the table when you sit down to take the
test (before you start the test). This way, you're not wasting time figuring
it out. It's right in front of you.

The table is very easy to memorize and will come in handy for the rest of
your career, not just in testing.

here's the link:

http://www.gdd.net/cisco/

Then just click on "Subnet Cheat Sheet"

But I agree, the questions are a bit misleading sometimes.
Happy testing!

Actually, DNS is both TCP and UDP (port 53 for both)

Here's a list of ports in case you need them:

You can do all but the CCIE just by reading and having a good networking

more difficult.
A good source of free study guides/cheat sheets (or whatever you wanna call

I want to allow the world to access that port EXCEPT for ip z.z.z.z, Can

Re: Help can not ping accross a Frame Relay link

2000-07-17 Thread Clayton Dukes

Are you using a dynamic routing protocol such as eigrp or ospf?

If so, make sure the network that your e0 is on is being advertised.

If you are using statics, make sure the other router has a route back to
your e0

you can test this by using an extended ping from e0

Re: CCDP certification question

2000-07-17 Thread Clayton Dukes

The CCNP and CDDP are gotten from taking the core (3 tests or the FRS) and
the CIT and CID.
If you have taken the Core or the FRS and the CIT, you have your CCNP, after
that, you only need to take the CID to get your CCDP.

Re: CCDP certification question

2000-07-17 Thread Clayton Dukes

Sorry folks, let me clarify:

Here's how I got all the certs (in this order):

CCNA
CCDA
FRS
CIT
CID

That gave me the following certifications:

CCNA, CCDA, CCNP, CCDP

So, when I said that all he had to do was take the CID to get his CCDP, I
was under the impression that he had completed the others the same as I had.
Sorry for the confusion :-)

Connect the cable to the aux port
you don't need a chat script

use these settings:
line aux 0 transport input
all flowcontrol hardware

then, on the modem, set pins 5, 3 and 8
up.

This is what works for me.

Re: Mediaone and routers.

2000-07-26 Thread Clayton Dukes

Jon,
Your making it harder than it has to be.

Do you have two ethernet ports?
Use NAT

Call Mediaone and have them provision a new mac address for you, just tell
them you bought a new PC. The mac you'll give them will be your outside
interface on your router. Also, make sure they keep your old nic provisioned
as well. this will help you to obtain the initial dhcp lease.

After the mac is provisioned, use NAT overload to assign ports to machines
on the inside network.

Let me know if you need assistance with the config and I'll send you mine.

Also, for DHCP leases from MediaOne, as long as your router stays turned on,
you can use the same IP.
Alternitavely, if you're in Jacksonville, FL, let me know and I'll tell you
how to circumvent the DHCP thing.

RE: BSCN Beta Results...

Title: RE: BSCN Beta Results...

Eric,
It depends more on your experience rather than your study skills.
I feared the FRS exam for quite some time because I heard everyone talk about how difficult it was. In fact, I didn't take any of the exams because I didn't think I was ready (I learn by doing, not studying and forgetting).  I now have my CCNA, CCDA, CCNP, and CCDP. I got all of them within a short 4 week period and scored quite well on the exams. I didn't really study much, only a few doc's and some practice tests.

Now, I would say that it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought, but I also have Ten years of real-world experience.

The point here is this; Don't assume that the tests are hard just because other people say they are, they may not know as much as you do.

...On to the CCIE (I bet I'll have to study for that one, huh?)

CCIE Study Guides

Title: CCIE Study Guides

Does anyone have any Cheat Sheets/Study Guides compiled for the CCIE Written Exam.

Before you flame me for trying to "degrade" the cert, let me explain.
Instead of reading the 80 million pages I have in books/links/docs, I'm looking for something more precise. I have compiled many documents on the other certs and am now prepping to take the IE written. The Docs for all the other certs can be located at http://www.gdd.net/cisco if anyone wants them.

I have learned that it helps me tremendously if I retype the cheat sheets/study guides. It also allows me to retain that knowledge for much longer than if I were to just read a book on it. Knowing this, it's much easier to re-type notes/study sheets than it is to type a new book :-)

Thanks, In advance.

Sorry
about that guys, I have now idea how THOSE got there...and shame on you for
downloading them, not that I blame you for trying :-)

At any

crap out of my server and my cable modem, I couldn't even telnet to my system
there were so many people on it.

The
link is back up again, as well as an anon ftp for those of you who want all the
stuff.
If you
want all of it, just grab the cisco.tar file from ftp.gdd.net (login anonymous). PLEASE don't use
http to get all the files.

P.S.
I
STILL NEED CCIE STUDY GUIDES/CHEAT SHEETS PLEASE (Read

They are separate tracks, but you have always needed the CCNA before you
were awarded the CCDA.

Just make sure it's in your hosts file, that should do it...on a unix
system, on a win syslog, there may be a dns lookup option not enabled.

go to google and try typing "ccie cheat"

Hi John,

I run a website that has exactly what you are looking for.
Out of the hundred plus training docs/study guides, there's only 1 that's
for sale (The Ultimate CCIE Study Guide, $15.95), the rest are free and
include Study guides for preparing for Cisco's CCNA, CCDA, CCNP, CCDP and
CCIE R&S and Security.

P.S. The website does require a login, but it's free (I just like to know
who's playing on my server :-))

Good luck!

Hi Frank,
The password reset function is a bit confusing, but it does work.
Other folks have had similar problems in the past, but they just clicked on
"Feedback" and sent me an email asking me to manually reset it.
If you want to send me an email (off the list) with your username, I'll be
happy to do the same for you :-)

Re: CCIE-Written [7:46741]

2002-06-18 Thread Clayton Dukes

Are you asking me? (It helps to quote the original email when you reply)

I'll assume your talking about the CCIE Written Study guide on my website?

I certainly think it's a great guide, and I've not had a single complaint.
Also, if you stop and compare it to the other guides that cost anywhere
from $50.00-$700.00US, I'd say you definately get more than your money's
worth.

As for the guarantee, it would be silly for me to guarantee that you'll
pass the CCIE written exam based on reading a book, I don't know how much
you know. I can tell you this: No single book is going to make you pass this
test, if the cert. were that easy, we wouldn't need study guides like this
one (and we'd be called MCSE's, heh).

If you need more information, or for a list of Topics covered in the book,
follow this link:

 http://www.gdd.net/html.php?op=tucciesg/moreinfo.html

 Hope that helps :-)

Please Help ASAP: Routing on a secondary interface [7:51534]

2002-08-16 Thread Clayton Dukes

Having a bad day, could someone please help me figure this out?

I have a secondary interface configured on my router:

interface Ethernet1/0

 description connected to EthernetLAN

 ip address 10.82.67.193 255.255.255.224 secondary

 ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0

I have another interface connected to a DSL line (this is working, so
it's not the issue)

interface FastEthernet0/0

 description connected to Internet

I have a default route:

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Dialer1

Here's the problem:

I have two systems:

10.0.0.99 (PC)

and

10.82.67.215 (Solaris)

from 10.0.0.99 I can ping everywhere, all local nets, all internet, etc.
(No problems)

from 10.82.67.215 I can ping the default gateway (10.82.67.193), I can
ping 10.0.0.1, I can ping 10.0.0.99..basically everything internally,
but not out to the internet.

Can someone please tell me what I am missing?
