BCMSN Fill in the Blank? [7:34230]
I am taking the BCMSN on Monday (finally). Are there any fill in the blanks on this test, or is it like the BSCN with the command list? Or are there both types of questions on the test? Also what is passing for this exam? Global Knowledge [7:34407]
I was given a book from Global Knowledge buy a friend. The book is Building Cisco Remote Access Networks. Is this book any good? I have the Cisco Press but I also wanted to use this as a backup reference. Anyone have any experience with this book, or any others from Global Knowledge. Thanks in advance. RE: BGP question [7:27879]
I am supprised that no one has explained this in normal terms to you so far. Here goes. Under normal operation (in your case) BGP will not advertise a network unless it learns it from an IGP first (in BGP's case it will consider a static route an IGP route). You can make BGP advertise a network not learned by an IGP but this is only sugested to be done when all internal routers are running IBGP. Then you would use the no-synchronization command to allow BGP to advertise these networks. THe other alternative is to set a static route pointing to null0 (ip route 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 null0) and have BGP advertise that network to its EBGP neighbor. OR run an IGP like RIP. That is why it works when you add rip routing. Hope this helps. RE: need advice [7:29392]
Question number one as far as I know is almost impossible. As for question number two you have two options, A)Access Lists or B)VLANS. Maybe others will have other alternatives. HTH! BSCN Route Redistribution [7:23732]
When configuring route redistribution you are able to set a default metric that will apply to all routes redistributed into a particular protocol. In the case of EIGRP there are parameters that must be set, these are bandwidth, delay, reliability, load, mtu. Although I understand these parameters and what they are where do you get these real world values? I understand that bandwidth is the minimum bandwidth of the route, but values like delay. Where are those values derived? In the Cisco Press BSCN book and also various others to include Sybex, they discuss these parameters but never mention where and how they are derived. I don't mean what is delay I know what that is, but how would an engineer determine what delay of a route or link is in a working environment. Or are these numbers in the book plucked from thin air. RE: Subinterface config. in CAT3550. [7:56174]
This is not true, you can do inter vlan routing with a 2620. See below "Enables inter-VLAN routing via Cisco's Inter-Switch Link (ISL) protocol (Cisco 2620 and 2621), reducing the cost of adds, moves and changes" This is a quote straight from Cisco's site Here is the link watch for wrap : http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps259/prod_brochure09186a00800921cd.html Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7&i=56177&t=56174 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Rajesh sorry I read your post wrong. I thought you said you could not do ISL with a 2620. Cat 3550-emi ? [7:56180]
Is it possiable to do both transparent bridging and intervlan routing on this box at the same time? Or is intervlan routing even an option? I am trying to figure out if I need to purchase a router with a fastethernet port since I have a 3550. RE: Off Topic - Physical Layer - fiber connectors [7:56562]
Optical Reflections and noise and distortion As in RF systems, reflections in RF / Optical systems are an issue. Optical reflections back into the laser diode cause a disturbance in the lasers gain cavity creating noise and distortion. The main sources of optical reflections are connector interfaces. A simple way to avoid most of the reflections at the interfaces is through the use of angle-polished connectors. The tip of an angle-polished, or APC connector is polished at an 8 degree angle. This is the optimal angle to minimize reflections from traveling back down the fiber into the laser. At this angle most reflections occurring due to the connector will be angled out of the fiber and dissipated harmlessly. Other general rules to minimize reflections: keep the connector tip clean and scratch free and always replace the cap onto the tip when the connector is not mated. RE: books for ccie written [7:56604]
Here are the books that I own and am using to prepare for the written and lab. Along with an extensive home lab setup. After these I am pretty posative that I will pass both on the first attempt. Nothing wrong with posative thinking... 1. Routing TCP/IP vol 1 2. Routing TCP/IP vol 2 3. Internet Routing Architecture 4. Cisco IOS 12.0 Quality of Service 5. Developing IP Multicast Networks 6. Cisco Voice over Frame Relay, ATM, and IP 7. MPLS and VPN Architectures 8. CCIE Routing and Switching Exam Certification GUide 9. CCIE Practical Studies 10. TCP/IP Illustrated Vol. 1 11. Cisco Certification Bridges, Routers, and Switches for CCIEs I also posses the CCNP Certification Library which was utilized to gain my CCNP and the CCNA book written by Lamalle which was used quite a while ago to gain a CCNA. All of this was suplimented with day to day experience. Hello Computers [7:74137]
Does anyone here have any experience with the Hello Computers CCIE Written Bootcamp? They claim to train you for the CCIE written in two days, and guarantee that you will pass after their training. Yet they only use Bruno's Book. I am not an employee or advertiser for this company nor am I looking for responses from their staff. I am looking for honest evaluations on the PRO's and CON's of their course before I invest my money in it. They also offer a lab bootcamp how is that? I am looking for as much feedback as possble. I am refering to the Fremont campus. CCIE Written Reading List ? [7:74317]
I own the following CCIE related books. I am currently studying for the CCIE written. I have read 95% of TCP/IP Volume 1, about 50% of Cisco Lan Switching, and about 30% of CCIE Routing and Switching Exam Certification Guide. But what I would like to do is cover only the necessary material and move forward onto the lab. My question is of the books listed below, which are absolutely necessary reads to take the CCIE written? Keep in mind that I do posses a current CCNP and have read all of the pre-requisite CIsco Press books from the CCNP Certification Library. Here is the list of Books: Routing TCP/IP V I Routing TCP/IP V II IOS 12.0 QOS Cisco Lan Switching CCIE Routing and Switching Exam Certification Guide Internet Routing Architectures Developing IP Multicast networks Cisco VOice over Frame, ATM, and IP MPLS and VPN Architectures CCIE Pratical Studies Cisco Certification: Bridges, routers and Switches for CCIE's TCP/IP Illustrated Volume I Advanced IP ROuting in Cisco Networks I am trying to narrow the list so that I can take the written at the end of December during the Holiday season. Also any suggestions on how I should be doing this? Should I take notes as I read? Again these are not books that I am thinking of buying. I already own all of the books that I have listed. I am just trying to narrow the list a little. RE: route redistribution [7:74856]
The application of the metric is done at the time of redistribution not after. Remember that the router already knows of the route and has it in its routing table it is just in a "different language"(protocol) than the recieving protocol understands so a translation is done. This in concept is redistribution. Remember that the route must be in the routers routing table before it is redistributed. Also if you look at where the command is applied (under the recieving protocol) you will notice that although it is call redistribution the routes are actually imported by the recieving protocol form the routing table then has the metric changed. I think it should have been called "route importing". But that is just my opinion. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7&i=74897&t=74856 -- **Please support GroupStudy by purchasing from the GroupStudy Store: http://shop.groupstudy.com FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html
RE: Off topic. Non Jet direct printers [7:74831]
Try an external jetdirect box. You dont have to use an HP printer with them. Then conect via IP to a server (WIN2K for instance) and share them from there. Your clients will connect to the printers via the server, which will serve as the print que. Now you have centeralized printing. All clients connect to the same IP to print. RE: CDP problem [7:74949]
What does show CDP nei give you? If you recieve Router#show cdp neighbors % CDP is not enabled This is self explainatory The CDP run command should solve that. If you get this then maybe your remote router does not have CDP enabled Router#show cdp neighbors Capability Codes: R - Router, T - Trans Bridge, B - Source Route Bridge S - Switch, H - Host, I - IGMP, r - Repeater Device IDLocal Intrfce HoldtmeCapability Platform Port ID Router# Also remember that CDP is a non-routable protocol so only directly connected neighbors are shown Also remember that CDP can be disabled on a per interface basis HTH I know that I might be stating the obvious here.
