AS5300 booting failure [7:74001]

2003-08-14 Thread Omer Ehsan Dar
Hi everyone,

I am having a problems with my AS5300. First of all upon reboot it stopped
showing the serial interfaces only the ethernets and the mica modems. Then it
sopped booting altogether. I think its fault resides in the rxboot memory
module. I have tried booting it bare with out the FLASH and the rxboot module
but I only get funny character five c's at the hyperterminal.

Could anyone help me out

regards

Omer

What I did then was I took an example out of the CCNA manual and even
When I did exactly that word for word it still did not work. I have
given both the remote router username and the password. the things work
out till encapsulation ppp but the minute I enter ppp authentication PAP
or CHAP the IPCP is closed.

Hi Everbody,
I am having a problem configuring the teltone isdn
demonstrator has gone beserk it wont accept the Spid number i have tried
every thing i am sending some of the configurations on one router. At
first
I thought that i had blown the bri because a message like
%ISDN-8-HARAKIRI% appeared. but then the U interface was back up again
and the S/T interface also worked fine so I thought everything was
fine. then this started happening. I tried it on two other routers which
have BRI interfaces(2503 2520) at first I had tried it on a 2504 and
another 2503.

Re: Cisco Certs [7:8807]

2001-06-18 Thread Omer Ehsan Dar

Dear paul,
Hi, being an electrical engineer myself I have to say that I agree with
all the points you made except one. That is the one comparing SAP to
CCIE. If you look into it deeply SAP was a software Cisco is basically a
hardware company. So if some has been a CCIE for a couple of years and
had worked with the myrid of equipment available chances are that he
wont disappear so easily. he will get work maybe not for 120K to 150K
but maybe 100K he will be needed because Computer Networks are going to
stay. so even if Cisco is replaced with another company the laws of
networking are not going to change they are the same. As in Electrical
engineering Ohm's law is still the same that is for those who dont know
Voltage = Current x Reisitance (V=IR) (sic! couldnt resist it).
Another analogy is for software programmers, if you made a program in
the original Fortran or Algol you can still run it in the latest version
of C++ or Visual Basic.
That is my opinion of course.

Hi all,
could anybody point out the source of cisco boot strap chips? Can we use
third party chips or do they have to be cisco approved.
Thanks in advance.

Cisco Certs [7:8807]

2001-06-15 Thread Omer Ehsan Dar

Hi all,
In the danger of getting flamed I will enter this message. There is a
great deal of debate here that you cannot become a a good Cisco
Certified Network Engineer without having a Electrical Engineering
Degree majoring in communications well the list has members who dont
have the degree but the requisite experience and certs. My question is
that does the engineering degree matter or not. Lets a say a person is a
CCIE and a good one does he need to be an engineer or will the CCIE cert
be enough.
Thanks
Omer

ISDN demonstrator [7:3842]

2001-05-09 Thread Omer Ehsan Dar

Hi all,
Someone asked me what ISDN demonstartor would be needed to connect to a
2503 router. Teltone markets two the ISDn demonstrattor or the ILS2000.
The ISDN demonstrator would require an NT1 while the ILS2000 would not.
any comments are welcome.

Some questions [7:2444]

2001-04-28 Thread Omer Ehsan Dar

Hi all,
I am preparing for my CCIE written and I have been through quite a lot
of stuff but have some ambiguities. I hope you can help me out.
1. What is the result of sending a loop up signal to the CSU/DSU?
2. When converting a serial line between two routers to X.25 what needs
to be done?
Weell encap x25 to be configured with a map statement with a x121
address defined I think
3. What does an ip datagram contain?
now a datagram is basically a UDP thingi so there should be no TCP info
right nor any info about routing protocols hops, cost etc
4. Injecting 0.0.0.0 into an OSPF's AS causes what to happen?
I have read in Thomas's book on OSPF design that it causes the default
route to advertised as 0.0.0.0 even if there is another default route
specified. It sort of overrides it.
5. What will be the drawback in Fast ether channel?
My limited reading on the subject suggests that the drawback is that
all channels should be configured with the same parameters like the
same duplex mode, fault tolerance and load balancing etc
6. if you have a Novell IPX server and a router on the same LAN and they
have addresses configured on each other the only way that they are not
able to talk to each other is because the encapsulation is different
right??
7. IPXWAN this has been bothering me quite a lot I have found only small
pieces of info on this topic. Can you suggest some resource? Also
somewhere along the way I read that it is a substitute for IPX RIP is it
true??
8. If the number of scollision on a ethernet interface goes higher it is
a software problem. but on a serial line if the collisions increase it
is a hardware problem right?

thanks for the help.
Omer
