Urgent: Async serial modem connection [7:71436]

2003-06-26 Thread Shane Stockman
I have a 2522 and a 1720.I want to setup the 2522 so that it will dial via a
serial port using a modem that is attached.I have a DB60 to DB25 DTE cable
for that. The router must dial the AUX port on the 1720 for use in out of
band management. The 2522 does not want to dial out.

Could someone please look at my config and maybe help.

Thanks

If i do a show controllers bri 0 , how do I know if there is a cable
connected to the port ? What do I have to look at to determine this ? I know

detected.

Any ideas

Splitting an ethernet segment [7:61257]

2003-01-17 Thread Shane Stockman
Here is my current scenario-
I have a 3640 RAS router at my HQ and 1x1700 routers at a remote site.I want
to add another router to another remote site but use the same ethernet
segment on DHCP.I have a Win2000 server doing DHCP for the 1 remote router.

On the DHCP server I want to split the segment with a 255.255.255.128 and
let both the router share that segment.

I use static routes for the dialer interfaces.
The current remote router has a e0 ip gateway address of 172.16.16.1
I want to make the other one 172.16.16.129 255.255.255.128

Will this work ?.

Thanks

Cisco ACS ver 2.6 [7:52065]

2002-08-26 Thread Shane Stockman

I am running Cisco ACS 2.6 and I have remote users dialing into our network
via analog and digital. The ACS authenticates them using the domain
database.I would like to know which users didnot dial into the network for
the last 30 days and have their accounts disabled automatically so that they
would have to request access.

I would also not want their office logon to be disabled as it is the same
username and password.

Is there anyway I could do this without affecting the other logon.

Thanks

Hi Shane,

mmmh, on one side you have configured the username and password under the
global config...

on ZA108005D you have done it ok:

username FD_PMBURG password 0 bmw2002

but on FD_PMBURG you have done it under the dialer ...

ppp authentication chap callin
ppp chap hostname FD_PMBURG
ppp chap password 0 bmw2002

As far as I understand that should work but maybe just for testing you
should try to configure the user name there as well in the global config?

This could be very well a software issue...

NB: Please keep on sending your reply to the alias that the others can also
benefit from this discussion.

A good page on CCO about ISDN trouble-shooting is here...

Claudia

ISDN Backup [7:50261]

2002-07-31 Thread Shane Stockman

I currently have 2 point to point links ruuning to the same place using
eigrp as the routing protocol.I have added a isdn bri as backup but I don't
want the isdn to kick in until both the point to point links drop.

There is a serious routing issue with have 1 link up and the bri as the will
load balance across and cause a loss of packets.

If there are any config examples or documents or if anyonehas done this sort
of config please send some info.

Thanks

CSPM for Cisco IDS [7:46206]

2002-06-10 Thread Shane Stockman

I would like to configure my CSPM to notify me via email when I get certain
serverities. My CSPM and Exchange server are not on the same segment. All
Cisco says is
If the SMTP server does not exist in a defined network within the NTT, a
new network object must be created

How this should be done is not said.

If any one can help me with this I would appreciate it.

thanks

DHCP [7:45338]

2002-05-29 Thread Shane Stockman

I have a Cisco 1720 router with 2 x BRI modules and a cisco switch connected
with a couple of PC's.These dial into a Cisco 3640 router.I want to setup
DHCP.I have a DHCP server on the 3640 side with an address range.I looked
for a sample config on Cisco.com but all I got was how to configure a Router
as a DHCP server.

Does anyone have a sample config on how to set this up.I know that one has
to use ip helper address but where ???

Thanks

IDS 4210 help again [7:36047]

2002-02-21 Thread Shane Stockman

I have setup the ids with the all the relevant in for such as the sensor and
ids manager details as well as the ip address, netmask, default gateway.
My question is that if 1 interface is the monitoring interface and it is
connected to the internet router and the other is the command and control
interface and that is connected to my switch , that interface needs and
address if I am correct as it will have to have a vlan number.

Which interface uses the ip address that I entered in the configuration and
how will I get the command and control interface to work ?

Thanks

Static Routing [7:8896]

2001-06-17 Thread Shane Stockman

Hi
I have 3 routers running a point-to-point network.There are 2 branches and
the 3rd router is at the ISP.All the links are 64K and I am using static
routes.I can telnet into and ping all 3 routers both serial and ethernet
interfaces , but I cannot see the WINS and DNS servers at the ISP. I have
put a static route on the fastethernet interface at the ISP router 0.0.0.0
0.0.0.0 fast 0 and the same route on the serial interface at the second
branch which connects at to the ISP router 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 serial 1. B

But after that I still cannot see those 2 servers from branch1 and 2.If I do
a show arp on the ISP router I can see the 2 servers and ping them from that
router, but not from the other 2.

BRANCH164k Link--BRANCH264K Link-ISP--Ethernet--Servers

Thanks

Router problem at remote node

2001-03-26 Thread Shane Stockman

I have a 1720 with serial wic on a remote branch.I cannot telnet nor ping
the router even though the router on my side says that both the interface
and line is up.The guy on the other side can see some routes not all.I have
checked the config with him line by line so I know it is not the config ,
done a clear ip route * ,shut the serial then opened it and much more with
no luck.On his side it shows the serial and line as up.I figure that there
could be one of only 2 problems
1. The serial wic is a bit stuffed
2. IOS is a bit on the blink

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think it is a hardware or IOS problem.

Pinouts
Telco Chrono PRI Module DB15
1 TX Tip9 TX Tip
2 TX Ring 2 TX Ring

4 RX Tip8 RX Tip
5 RX Ring 15 RX Ring

I think this would be 120-Ohm balanced connection.

My problem is that when I try to tracroute to a printer on a vlan it just
gives me the stars , but I can ping quite easily from the same switch.I had
a trace done from the mainframe and it stops at this switch and I had
another mainframe trace done from a mainframe in Europe and it still stops
at this switch.I can ping the printer address and get a 100% reply from both
mainframes.

Any suggestions ?

Protocol numbers

2001-01-09 Thread Shane Stockman

I see in the BSCN courseware they mention something about protocol number
for example igrp=9 and RIP has a UDP port of 520. Does anyone know where I
could get a list of the numbers for protocols. I have searched Cisco.com but
could not find.

Thanks

Cisco Catalyst Supervisor Engines

2001-01-02 Thread Shane Stockman

Could someone please explain the difference between the supervisor 1,2,3
engines that go with the Catalyst 5000 and 6500,why are they used and where
would I use them ( Core , Distribution, Access).

Another question - What would be the easiest way to test serial and ethernet
ports on a router with minimal equipment and cables ( what would be needed
to do so ).

CID Beta

2000-12-15 Thread Shane Stockman

Well I wrote the CID Beta exam earlier today and damn was it crap.My exam
said Cisco Secure VPN on the top.It seemed like it was a test that was made
up of alot of different tests.I did'nt know that Voice and VPN and numerous
other non related design topics were part of the new CID.I used the Sybex
CID book and it barely was enough.I felt more like it was a nail the sucker
who thought he was going to save some money on a Beta Exam.

Any comments from others who have taken this exam

Re: IP Classless

2000-10-29 Thread Shane Stockman

IP Classless is used for route summarization and for further subnetting a
subnet for point-to-point WAN links using VLSM.It is important because by
using ip classless u can perform route summarization thereby saving on
bandwidth utilization, router processing and reduce the size of routing
tables. With regards to VLSM you will be better utilising your IP addressing
structure. It also supports discontiguous subnets, thereby letting the
subnets communicate with each other.

These I think are probably the most common reasons for using ip classless.
N.B IP Classful also has something called automatic summarization, but this
does not support discontiguous subnets.

EIGRP,OSPF,IS-IS,RIPv2,BGP are all classless routing protocols

Hope this explains what you want to know

Re: IDB

2000-10-28 Thread Shane Stockman

IDBs provide a central location in memory for storing information about
network interface cards for use by the interface driver code.
They are able to represent all knds of interfaces including
subinterfaces. The IDB data stuctures also use alot of memory so Cisco has
limited them to 300 per router.
Each physical whether it is configured or not or if it is up or shut uses
one IDB.It works the same for the subinterfaces, each subinterfaces gets one
IDB.

e.g one interface has 5 subinterfaces so there are 6 IDBs allocated.

Subinterfaces use IDBs but FR PVCs don't.If a FR has 10 PVCs and does not
use any subinterfaces it uses a single IDB.
Another example:1 interface with 2 subinterfaces each having 3 PVCs only use
3 IDBs.

Hope This helps

What does IDB represent in a cisco environment?

Medium enterprise design assistance

2000-09-17 Thread Shane Stockman

I am currently designing a new network for a medium size enterprise. Here are
the details .
17 remote sites (8 users currently)
1 central site (HQ)
Wan - ISDN from each site running to PSTN. From PSTN PRI is used to central
site.
For the remote sites I am using a 1720 with a isdn WIC.
At HQ I will use a 3662(1x 2port ISDN PRI module 1xdigital modem(30))
1x Pix Firewall and a 2924 in a DMZ area.
On the inside I will use a 5500 for the servers and running gigabit to the
servers.
I initially thought of creating a 6500 backbone running giga ether and
connecting all the servers to the backbone but financial constraints might
not make it advisable.
Any solutions or suggestions.
Thanks

Linux Proxy server and 1700 using NAT

2000-09-09 Thread Shane Stockman

I have a cisco 1720 with 2xISDN WIC cards and a Linux Proxy Server with
2xNIC's. I need to know whether I can use 1 nic for the internal address and
another for the global addresse's given by the ISP using only one ethernet
port of the 1720.

   -Proxy--NIC1(Internal) -Router-ISDN WIC 0---|--PSTN
   -Server-NIC2(Outside )-Eth0---ISDN WIC 1---|

Sorry for the sketch
I also need to connect the Proxy to a 2924 for 8 users
Is this possible ?

Any Solution

Thanks

ISDN Solution -help needed

2000-08-25 Thread Shane Stockman

I want to connect users from a small business to the internet via a proxy
server and cisco 1601 with IP Plus IOS . There will also be a remote user
with an ISDN line and a Cisco 801 will be dialing into the company and
another user that will be coming in via a modem.
Both remote users will be needing access to a server.

I will be using access-lists on the 1601 and NAT ( for the users in the
company getting out to the internet ).The ISP will issue addresses for the
routers.

I need suggestions and other ideas on how to make this work.I f there is any
other routers that will do the job let me know.

There will be appoximately 10-15 people that is in the company that will be
using this ISDN link for Internet access.

Thanks in advances
