Cisco 4000 error on startup. HELP!! [7:52121]

2002-08-27 Thread Vik D

Hi, I just got a cisco 4000(it is not a 4500 or a 4700 but a plain 4000) for
my home lab. But when I start it up it gives me a error saying Failed
sizing main memory. I tried cisco's website but couldn't find anything on
this error. I would appreciate any help on this.

Cabling standards [7:38540]

2002-03-16 Thread Vik D

Hi can anyone provide a brief but simple explanation of the cabling
standards involved. The reason I am asking is that I have 2 cisco routers a
2524 and a 2501 with DB-60 interfaces. At this time I need to connect them
together to simulate a point-to-point connection. I was wondering what cable
would I need to do this. i was confused about terms like V.35, Rs-232 and
terms being used with them like cross-over and back-to-back. I was thinking
in terms of regular cables and am not quite sure if I am right. Appreciate
any help. Thanks. Regards,

Vik

RE: Cabling standards and another question [7:38540]

2002-03-16 Thread Vik D

The Cisco 2524 I just purchased has a serial 5-in-1 module. When consoled in
to the router it is showing it has 2 serial interfaces and one ethernet. I
am not sure why is that. I think it was running version 12 IOS. I don't have
the exact revision number currently. Any suggestions on if this is a bug or
why it would be showing that. I did not try and configure the interface
which I should have tried just to confirm if the interface is configurable.
Thanks

e0 on 4000-m router [7:15861]

2001-08-13 Thread Vik

I have a Cisco 4000 with 2 serial, 1 token ring and 2 ethernet interface.
However, when a show interfaces command is executed, there is only one
ethernet interface shown.

On the back of the router where the ethernet ports are, one is a typical
10baseT, RJ-45 connection, but the other is AUI which I do not have a
transceiver for; I just have a CAT5 cable from the 10baseT connector going
to my switch.

When I do a show interfaces command, ethernet 0 is up, but the protocol is
down. On my swith I do not see any activity lights for that port, so I am
thinking that my e0 is actually the AUI port.

How do I use the 10baseT interface?

Frame-relay between routers [7:15244]

2001-08-08 Thread Vik

I have set up a lab in my office with a 2926 switch, 4000
-m router and a 2610 router. I have the 2610 set up as a DCE device, clock
rate, bandwidth and frame-relay encapsulation. The 4000 is set up as DTE.

I know a hundred books explain how to do this, but I do not have access to
mine right now and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, but here's the
problem: when I check the serial interfaces, they show that the line
protocol is down. I can't figure out why I can't simulate frame between the
two routers.

Can someone please send me a bullet point check list to make sure I have
everything setup. If any other info is needed, just let me know.

Thanks

bandwidth research [7:9993]

2001-06-26 Thread Vik

Hello,
I'm trying to determine the bandwidth requirements my company will have upon
deploying a new ERP application along with centralized Internet, e-mail,
VoIP, etc.

I am having a difficult time finding news groups or any info on determining
what bandwidth is used by Java apps, Citrix MetaFrame, and other apps along
this line.

Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Thx.

Summarization

2001-02-26 Thread Vik Evans

Can some one please explain summarization to me a little better than this
stupid book I have. I can't tell if I am supposed to subtract a bit from the
subnet mask in order to summarize and once you come up with your summary
address, how do you know what addresses it summarizes?

Thanks
