Subject: We (Cisco mailing list) are moving ... [7:72060]

Hey Everyone,

We will be moving the mailing list function to a new server. If you are
currently receiving this list via e-mail, you will be affected. This
has been planned for some time now but we need to move faster then I
would like. I just received a bill from our co-location facility for
the GroupStudy service and let's just put it this way, in most locations
rent on a two bedroom apartment is less expensive. So we need to try
and reduce our bandwidth usage (an eventually find another co-location
facility).

It has been quite clear for some time now that the GroupStudy server
needs help. We are dropping an unacceptable number of messages (I
personally have had five in a row discarded) and the messages that make
it take a random amount of time to propagate. To fix this, I have
purchased a new server and bandwidth (at a lower cost facility). We
will be migrating to the new server in the next few days. Once the move
is complete we will cut over to the new server.

But wait it gets better .. We are dumping majordomo as our list
software! Our new software will allow you to change a number of
options. For example you will be able to suspend distribution of the
e-mails, receive e-mails in digest format, change your e-mail address,
etc.

You will receive a welcome message with your account information. The

message will contain your username/password, instructions on how to
login to the server, and instructions on how to unsubscribe. Please
save this e-mail for future reference. It is also a good idea to login
to the server and set your password to something more memorable then the
random password given.

If you stop receiving e-mails from the list after the change, please
send me an e-mail (after verifying it is not a problem at your end such
as misconfigured anti-spam software etc.).

Take care,

Paul Borghese

Subject: No output on "show run" [7:70461]

Hi all,

I have an issue on a 7200 where it appears that I am running out of memory
although none of the show outputs that I have seen tell me that. When I try
to issue the "show run" nothing happens, I get no output. If I try to copy
start run it gives me the following error:

Router#sh run
Router#copy start run
Destination filename [running-config]?
%Error opening system:/running-config (Not enough space)
Router#

I was thinking that perhaps this configuration is to large and it needs to
be compressed. Perhaps I need to use the command "service compress-config"
but not quite sure since all this is doing is compressing the NVRAM portion.
I dont think that that is where my problem is but I could be wrong, please
explain.

Could someone explain to me what causes this to occur and how to fix it
(besides a reboot).

Here is the output of the "show version".

RE: direway dsl via satelite and the vpn [7:64390]

2003-03-04 Thread Walker, James - Is
Dave,

Satellite is not DSL and DSL is not satellite. I think that was a typo. :)

I have a Direcway Satellite System and the ONLY WAY I got the VPN to work is

1. Not launching the VPN from the computer that is directly connected to the
satellite rcvr/trans box, because it does not work!!!

2. Loaded Windows XP and bridged the USB and the NIC

3. Configured the NIC with an IP address and mask

4. Installed a switch, you can use a hub, and connected up the computer

5. Connected my laptop to the switch

6. Configured the NIC on my laptop to be on the same network as the computer
and
used it as your gateway

Good luck,

Jim

RE: flapping of trunk ports (trunk non-trunk) [7:62951]

2003-02-14 Thread Walker, James - Is
I have seen this problem before.

Basically you have a layer 1 problem thus, your fiber.

Some possible problems to look at:

1. Is your fiber longer than IEEE standard?
With GBIC-SX, 550m for multi-mode
With GBIC-LH, 300m for multi-mode
With GBIC-LH with modal cable, 550m for multi-mode
With GBIC-LH, 5K for single mode

My guess is you are using MM with SX GBICs and you have patch panels in the
middle of you run and you are also using fiber patch cords. Look for loose
or bad ends, dust lint between your patches, and/or even a bad run.

Hope this helps.

Jim

P.S. Sei in Italia? Di dove?

If you're asking what I think you're asking, then I think your answer is
yes, but you won't be able to pass any traffic across the circuit. Unless
you've confused me (it doesn't seem I would be the only one), then the

Jim, Based upon 12.1 IOS...

See CCO for docs on how to copy a replacement image onto the router..
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios121/121cgcr/
fun_c/fcprt2/fcd203.htm

You obviously have local access to the device, as assumed by the output
you have posted; from the console session, check the boot parameters
with a "SHOW BOOTVAR". If you are sure the flash memory is not damaged,
then I would format the flash, and then tftp a new copy of the IOS image
onto it.

See CCO for information on setting the boot variable.

Router Setup

This may be a very simple question, but I set up my router and I cannot
access the internet. Here is the configuration file. I tried the command
IP Route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 x.x.x.x as well, with no luck. Sigh

Also does anyone have any links for configuration PDF for 3600 routers?

RE: CCDA case study in Exam [7:59068]

2002-12-12 Thread Walker, James - Is
This test has multiple case studies and multiple questions per case study.

Yes, you can refer back to the case studies for all the questions.

You will lose average of 3 min. per question as you have to refer back to
the case study.
After spending over an hour on case studies (hint hint), my head was aching
after the exam.

IMO, CCIE written was easier.

Hi GroupStudy,

I heard that there is case studies in the CCDA exam.

I would like to know how does it works? Is it that they gave you a case and
the next few question will ask you some multiple choice questions that is
related to that case?

Can I go back to the case study during those questions?

Thanx..

Hi,

I made a mistake making that statement. With the new IOS codes, 12.x, you can
create subinterfaces. :-O

I don't think you can do that on a 10M interface. Has to be a fast ethernet
interface.

Hi, all,

Can the 2500 series support 802.1Q? If so, what IOS version and feature set
would be needed?

I want to create some logical subinterfaces on the 2500 that correpond to
VLANs, as a way of segmenting traffic.

TIA,

Charles

Create a 'bridge-group' by issuing the command on the interfaces you want to
span.

I have the following problem,

I have two locations connected bya ATM from a service provide, and I get
ethernet at each end, now I would like to send Vlan tagged frames 802.1q
over the link, as I need to have two IP networks span both sites.

But when I turn tagging on, It does not work, and the Provider says that his
equipment can4t handle the tagged frames

Is there any way to work around this, with routing or switching ??

please let me know

Best regards
Arni

IP addresses are layer 3.

Are you working with a layer 3 switch?

I am running 2 WAN links through the same router and have been have session
disconnect problems recently. I have been running several ping tests across
both of the links (128K FR and 512K Leased line) and they are both showing
response times fluctuating from 30ms to 1400ms (No dropped packets). I
believe this is the root of the problem. What could be causing this delay
through the router ??? The memory and processor usage looks to be within
tolerable limits. I am also assuming this kind of delay is not normal, would
I be right ??

All answers appreciated !

RE: DCE or DTE [7:49625]

The one you can add the clocking statement is the DCE end.

You can use 'show controllers serial 0' to verify.
