Cat 3548 not seeing vlans

2001-02-17 Thread alex campbell

hello all.
I have a switched network of 2 cat 5500s and 1 3548
the cat 5500s have rsms, and there are 10 vlans in use which are seen by all
three switches. one of the 5500s is the vtp server. the switches are
connected via gigabit ethernet
now last week i bought another 3548 and gigabit connectors, with the
intention of connecting to the other 3548 and seeing all the vlans. Now
there is a connection (show cdp neigh) and i have copied al the relevant vtp
info and set it to a client.
Yet it refuses to see the other vlans...the original 3 switches can see them
fine.
encapsulation seems ok, so can anyone please give me some pointers ?

Regards
Alex

Re: (transmission)

2000-12-27 Thread alex campbell

Hi all
Excuse the smart-alec title...still a bit tipsy from the holiday season..:))
Could someone please point me to a resource that explains (and, if possible,
compares) retransmission of data using various layer 2 protocols when there is an
error on the line.
It is an area I am constantly getting different opinions about.

Thanks, and a happy holiday season

rsm/ switch problems

2001-01-15 Thread alex campbell

ppl.
could a catalyst 5500 expert please help me out here.
i have 2 cat 5500s. there are 12 vlans set on each one
they are connected via an isl link, and each cat has an rsm at the bottom
vlan 3 is the printer vlan
on sunday, there was full connectivity between all vlans..i.e everything could
ping everything else.
today however...if i plug the printer into the second catalyst switch...the RSM
in switch 1 can ping itbut the switch itself CANNOT!
it times out..and there seem to be no config changes at all! ive made sure the
port is ok, its not channeling or anything...but no luck :(
the problem seems to be on the second switch...if i attach the printer to swtich
1, then both rsms and both swtiches can reach it...
the thing is...if there was a probl;em with the port in switch 2, then surely the
RSM wouldnt be able to ping it...and it can ping it fine!!
so to recap
plug printer in switch 1...both RSMs and switches can ping it
plug printer in switch 2...both RSMs can reach it, but one switch cannot..

any ideas ?

WE do not LOVE you. I am neither Indian nor Pakistani by the way, but I am

Why don't you BOTH just shut up and just go away. Leave the intolerance to

Unspecified Card

2000-09-15 Thread alex campbell

Hello all,

I have a cisco 2620 router...running IOS 12.0, I have also just got a 4T
serial card,
every time I power up the router...I get the message 'Unspecified Card in
Port 1'.
I have tried differend versions of IOS 12 all to no avail. I get the Green
EN light on the card to illuminate once the router powers up, but then it
turns itself off again.

Any help much appreciated

3548 vlan configuration

2000-10-12 Thread alex campbell

Hi

Just a quick question, I have a brand new 3548 xl switch. I have set up
trunking between this and my catalyst 5500s. (I have 2 cat 5500s already set
up with isl, and each 5500 can see all 10 vlans)
the 3548 can now see the vlans as well..
all well and good, except the commands to set ports to a specific vlan on my
cat 5500s i.e. set vlan 1 4/5 (or whatever) dont work on this 3548, which i
know uses a different ios.
could someone please tell me how to configure a port on the 3548 so that it
is on a different vlan that is on the default...
set vlan does not work.
regards
mark

two routers & EIGRP

2000-07-24 Thread alex campbell

Hello ppl

I have two routers, both connected to a standard 10mb hub. Both can ping
each other as can a PC which is also on this mini network.

1 is a 2501 with IOS 11.3 connected via ethernet
1 is a 2620 with IOS 12.0 connected via fast ethernet

I am trying to get these two to share routes via EIGRP but to no avail. Both
are set to routing process 1, both have routes..and (odd bit here) a network
monitor on the PC says that they are advertising routes!
but they do not seem to share routes
when i do show ip eigrp interface on the 2620 it does NOT list any info!
but when i do it on the 2501 it lists ethernet 0.
But I am doing the same thing for each router !

Is it incompatibility between 12.0 and 11.3, I find it difficult to believe
but someone has suggested it ?
Or am I missing something obvious ?

Any help appreciated
Mark,

RE: CCNP is easy to achieved now!

2000-08-27 Thread alex campbell

Vincent.

I think you have little, if any team player skills and you spend far too
much time in front of books rather than talking to people and understanding
the concept of teamwork. You could be a CCIZ for all I care, I would never
employ you.

your arrogance is also fairly breathtaking in its idiocy.
you should also learn to speak english. Its 'easy to achieve'

Spanning tree screw up

2000-08-31 Thread alex campbell

hello ppl
I have a cat 5500 with 12 ethernet cards and an RSM
over the weekend I repatched the whole network and added a couple new
vlans...it all seems to work.
However

this message seems to come up occasionally
%MLS-4-RESUMESC:Resume MLS after detecting too many moves
%MLS-4-MOVEOVERFLOW:Too many moves, stop MLS for 5 sec (200)

my telnet connection to the switch seems to disconnect when it feels like it
(which is SO enjoyable when configuring VLANs :))
on looking through the Cisco Web Site, I understand that its a spanning tree
problem. However, do any of you guys know if rebooting the switch would
solve the problem ? and if not, what will ?
Thanks
Alex
