MCNS 2.0 [7:12091]

2001-07-12 Thread fahim

Hi group
Have anyone studying for MCNS 2.0 or given the exam???/
If so, what books need to be prepared apart from Cisco press book written by
Michael Wenstrom. Any comments on how the questions are, and what level of
difficulty it is. Do we need to have hands on experience on Pix or rather
studying and understanding the concept is enough.
Thanks in advance

Fahim

HI
for CCNA, You can take CCNA course from any Cisco Authorized training center
or Cisco Network Academy, if you one in your country.
Furthermore you can start preparing by buying these two books.
Todd Lamle's CCNA guide published by Sybex or you can prepare with Cisco
Press Book for CCNA.
The exam code is 640-507.

Re: Security Exams Textbooks Required [7:27321]

2001-11-27 Thread fahim

Hi
For MCNS Cisco course material, if you have one, then you will get 100%
questions from this book. For other exams say CSPFA, you will find 4
chapters in MCNS which is relevant, So if you pass MCNS you can pass CSPFA.
But I would suggest go for Pix exam first, then MCNS, VPN and last IDS. But
overall studying Michael Wenstrom once will help you lot to pass.

Gaz is right,
There is no IS-IS in BSCN, so dont worry, go ahaed with your exam. IS-IS is
covered in BSCI (640-900) which helps you to get CCIP.

IS-IS is covered in BSCI exam not in BSCN, If you want to concentrate on

Hi
It seems to me that you have missed access group command
For example, use the following command statement to ping from the inside

access-group acl_ping in interface outside.
Once you define an access list you have to specify the access group command
for each interface thru which you want the icmp packets to pass. hope this
helps

Policy Routing Help. [7:63692]

2003-02-25 Thread fahim
Hi Guys
Need Help in Policy Routing. I have a Cisco 2610 router with Pix behind, The
2610 has two WAN Connections, S0-256Kbps leased line and ATM0-DSL line
512Kbps, going to two differenct ISP, with different IP addresses.E0 will
connect to PIX outside interface,
I need to configure SMTP Traffic to route thru leased line, HTTP traffic to
route thru ATM0, DSL line. I think it can be done by Route Map (policy
Routing), cannot find documents in Cisco's website, or do I need additional
router to do this.
If anybody had done similar setup pls do provide a sample configuration, or
if this setup will not work, what is the alternate suggestion.

appreciate your early reply.

thanks n regards

Etherchannel between 1924 and 2950T-24 switches. [7:64216]

2003-03-02 Thread fahim
Hi group
Can Etherchannel be configured between 1924 and 2950T-24 switch.
My customer is running two 1924 with Fast Etherchannel configured. The
configuration says

port-channel mode desirable
port-channel template-port fastethernet 0/27
port-channel preserve-order

Spantree-template 1 forwarding-time 4
Spantree-template 1 hello-time 1
Spantree-template 1 max-age 6

ip address 173.23.1.150 255.255.255.0

All interface (10basteT) says
 no spantree start-forwarding

Each server has dual NIC cards which is connected to two switches in this
fashion.
NIC 1 goes to Switch A -->port 1
NIC 2 goes to Switch B -->port 1.
similarly all servers goes in this fashion.

Fast etherchannel groups the two 100baseT ports into a single, logical
transmission path.

Now Customer wants to replace one 1924 switch with 2950T-24 which has 24
10/100 ports and 2 1000base T ports.

I have configured Etherchannel in 2950T-24
Interface Vlan 1
 Ip address 172.23.1.150

Switch#conf t
Switch(config)#interface gigabitethernet0/1 -2
Switch(config-if)#channel-group 5 mode desirable

Switch(Config)#port-channel load-balance (default is source mac)
and configured spanning-tree as
switch(config)#spanning-tree vlan 1 forward-time 4
switch(config)#spanning-tree vlan 1 max-age 6
switch(config)#spanning-tree vlan 1 hello-time 1

once I replace a 2950T-24 switch from a 1924 the configuration doesnt seem
to work, link goes up and down on gigabit ethernet interface, i can only
ping my vlan inteface.
Is there anything missed out, will a etherchannel can be bundled between a
100base T and 1000base T,
I have set the speed and duplex in 2950T-24 to 100 full and forced the
10/100 24 ports to 10baseT half-duplex.
Give me your valuable inputs, if I have missed out anything give me a
suggestion.

thanks

Hi William
I dont think Netmeeting will work with remote access vpn client, check out
this
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/471/vpn_3000_faq.shtml#Q56

Netmeeting will not working with tunnel established.
Netmeeting should work without tunnel established by giving proper
access-list for port 1720 (h.323),
Frankly speaking, I have not tested, if somebody had done and if its
working, dont flame.

BRI question [7:20238]

2001-09-17 Thread fahim

I'm having a 2600 router with 8 ports BRI. All my BRI from 1/0 to 1/3 is
working fine...all are connected by ISDN to remote site (using pvt ip
addresses). But after I plugged in 1/4 BRI port into my 2600 router to
connect my new remote site...I'm not able to ping to my remote site. My
remote site has 800 series router and I'm able to Ping from this site but
intermittent only. Only when I initiate ping from remote site, My HQ 2600
router can ping back that too intermittent...what could be the problem.
My configuration is same in all sites, with dialer map and dialer-list
given.
Ip addresses used are all pvt with different subnets.
Anyone has answer for this. If you want I can send my configuration to your
personal mail account.
Thanks in advance

Re: PIX 515 nat or static [7:23286]

2001-10-17 Thread fahim

Hi
Jeff is correct, you specify nat(inside) 1 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 for all internal
network to access and followed by global (outside) 1 range of global
ip_address or single ip address if you want to use PAT, followed by subnet
mask.
When u use nat use global and when u use static use conduit or use
access-list for ver6.0.
The number one stands for (1) nat_id, you should use the same nat id for
global.

Hi
If you want VPN client to connect to your pix, you need to assign a public
IP to your outside interface and you can create a pool of private ip address
to your vpn client by using (ip local pool start ip...end ip)
and give the pool name in the vpngroup configuration (vpngroup
address-pool . There are lot of document given in

Re: RIP Problem [7:34777]

2002-02-08 Thread Sajeel Fahim

Hello there..
well in rip v1, routing updates are sent WITHOUT SUBNET MASK out a router.
for example a subnet of 134.8.2.0 will be advertised BUT if on the recieving
interface the SUBNET MASK is /16, it will consider 16 bits of this address
as a network and rest of 16 as host. this will make this network 134.8.0.0 .
Most probabably the interface of R1 connected to R3 has an IP address of
SUBNET MASK /16 that is why your R1 does not see these routes.

To solve this problem, make a secondary address on your R1 interface
connected to R3 and give it an IP address of /24.

I hope I made my point clear.

bye
