3660 router [7:11917]

2001-07-11 Thread Mears, Rob

Any one ever had a problem loading IOS on a 3660 right out of the box? I
have one with 64meg flash and 256 ram and the damn thing will not come out
of RMMON. I have set the confreg to boot correctly still RMMON. I have
flashed it with two different IOS (121&12.2), swapped out Flash, MEM, even
sent the chassis back to Cisco and the new one had the same problem. TAC has
no clue, they have been sending me part and giving me to different Engineer
with no luck.

What gives?

Rob

open up hyperterm, connect to console, log the session, flick the power
switch, and let it drop into ROMMON.

then you need to post the text file IN LINE with your next email.
THEN we can help you.

No, but how did you flash it if you can only boot up in ROMMON mode?

Re: 3660 router [7:11917]

2001-07-11 Thread Patrick Ramsey

The best way to see what the problem might be is to download the smalled ios
possible (ip only), then watch the router boot.

If it boots and you do not see any problems with the flash, copy the ios
over via xmodem. (change the serial port to 115200 using confreg) As the
router boots, whatch for memory errors and whatnot to make sure all is well.

After the router boots up and is in running condition, tftp whatever image
you want straight to flash. (remember, using xmodem to copy an image over
only puts it in memory for booting)

If you see any erros, start removing ram/flash to see if the errors go away.

If you are still hosed, chances are there is a hardware malfunction.

Order some more flash, or stick a pcmcia card in to test with and remove all

RE: 3660 router [7:11917]

2001-07-11 Thread Ole Drews Jensen

This might be a wrong guess, but I have had similar problems erasing flash
memory, because I added an extra flash module. The problem there was that
even though both flash modules were the same size, they both contained data,
and the router didn't like that.

What I had to do was to boot up with only one of the modules, erasing that,
then booting up with only the other module, erasing that, and then finally
booting up with both modules and loading the flash.

Hth,

Ole

Don't know what's going on with yours, but we had the same problem with a
3660 and it was the memory. Are you getting any sort of error message when
it boots? Our's said that the Image checksum didn't match the expected
value. TAC seemed to know the problem right away and sent us out new memory
overnight. That fixed the problem right up. The only thing I can think of
is that they may have sent you another bad set of mem when the swapped it
for you. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I'll see if the person here who
called TAC got any more ideas out of Cisco and get back to you if there are
any other known issues that cause this problem.

Re: 3660 router [7:11917]

2001-07-11 Thread David C Prall

Have a try with the -r option on tftpdnld. This will boot the image from the
TFTP server. It will not copy it to flash. If this works, then most likely
you don't have a problem with memory. Now try to format the flash, then tftp
copy a new image to the flash. If this works then we need to look at the
bootrom image, perhaps there is a newer image that supports your flash
config, and you have an older image that didn't support the flash memory.

Re: 3660 router [7:11917]

2001-07-11 Thread Sean Young

what kind of advice is this "tftpdnld -r"? This feature is NOT supported
for the 36xx platforms. It is only supported for the 26xx platforms. I
have never used the 3660 platforms; however, I have experiences with
both the 26xx and 3640 platforms. If the 3660 router has PCMCIA slot
card, the easiest thing to do is to put the IOS on the PCMCIA card,
insert the PCMCIA card into either slot 0 or slot 1, power up the router,
send the break sequence to it (teraterm is one of the best terminal
freeware out there), and run the command the "boot slot0:Cisco-IOS-name"
where Cisco-IOS-name is the name of the IOS. Once the router is up, you
can copy the IOS from the PCMCIA slot card to the Flash. If everything
goes well, you will do a "show flash" and you should see the IOS image on
flash. Oh also verify to make sure the IOS on the flash is not corrupted
"verify flash:Cisco-IOS-name". Reboot the router again. If the flash is
not defective, then all is well.

Let me know if you have questions.

Sean
