Make sure you have a up-to-date bootstrap. I got the same problem when I
have bootstrap version 4.14. Upgrade the bootstrap ROM should fix the
problem.

RE: 2500 Flash ?

2001-03-27 Thread Wang, Roger

I have a similar problem, but it's the other way around (sorta)...

I added a 4M flash chip to a 2500 that originally had only 8M. But after
the upgrade, "show version" shows there are 16M, not 12M. Also, I can not
copy an IOS version that's larger than 12M to the flash, so that shows the
added chip is indeed only 4M.

Is there something I need to do so it shows the correct size of the flash?
ROM upgrade?

Thanks,

Rog

I think that the flash chips have to match - in other words, you have to
have 2 8's not 1 8MB and 1 4MB...

RE: 2500 Flash ?

2001-03-27 Thread John Chang

No. If you only fill the first bank that's OK. If you fill both then they
need to match.

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/access/acs_fix/cis2500/2500cfig/dualflsh/58674.htm

 From website above:

"Step 5 Insert the new Flash memory SIMM by sliding the end with the metal
fingers into the appropriate SIMM connector socket (CODE 0 or CODE 1) at
approximately a 45-degree angle to the system card. If you are installing
only one SIMM, install it in the socket labelled CODE0. Gently rock the
SIMM back
into place until the latch on either side snaps into place. Do not use
excessive force because the connector could break. "

RE: 2500 Flash ?

2001-03-27 Thread John Chang

Apparently I can't read. Read his question wrong. You are right
Zorro. Not the same as my problem.

This is what I have done:

1) Upgraded ROM chips to the newest XB2
2) Tried the Flash in another 2500 series router and shows as 8MB
3) When I put it back into 2504 it shows it as 4MB.

Are there any jumpers or something I'm missing? I have only installed one
8MB Flash. Leaving one empty. If I install 2 8MB flash it shows as 2 4MB
flash SIMMs. Thank you.

Do a Sho FLASH to see if it may be partitioned. If it says 4 Megs, then
it's a 4 Meg stick. Usually the FLASH either works or not. I know with
RAM, incompatible speeds (nanoseconds) will read lower than reality.

I've never had 8 & 4 increments work in the 2500. I've always had (2) 4 Meg
sticks or (1 or 2) 8 Meg sticks. Usually the boot ROM memory count is not
effect by the ROM's, it's usually a situation of disappearing interfaces or
"no usable interfaces" when your IOS supersedes the ROM code.

Show flash shows one or two partitions? You may need to issue the partition
command in config mode to make the router see the flash as one 8 Mb
partition. You'll only be able to reload the IOS from rommon the first
time.

I made a boo boo. I thought I had an 8MB Flash since that was what I had
bought but I did some testing and it turned out to be 4MB. When I had an
8MB flash in slot0 and a 4MB in slot1 the show flash thinks it's
16MB. That's what confused me. And when I put the 4MB in slot0 it
registered correctly. I guess next time I test flash I'm going to do it
one at a time. Thanks for the help folks.

What image are you trying to load as the smallest image in even 103xx
sumthing needs 4 meg fla and 2 meg ram.
Invalid check sum usually mean the image is corrupted.
Either when you pulled it from the router or the replacement image..
it could be getting mangled when tftp'ing

 reseat the flash
verfiy image size
check the cables etc
use TFTP with a xover cable
stilll bad D/L another copy of IOS
 If still bad then
Flash has gone bad

It happens (sigh)
Call TAC see what they say

I have a 2514 that only has 4MB Flash 1MB Ram. For some unknown reason after
I ran a password recovery, the router booted off the ROM and the image in
the flash showed an invalid checksum. Not completely understanding the
problem I went to get a new image of CCO. I went through the procedure to

checksum as well. It does state the checksum read and the one expected. So,
I basically viewed all images available looking for any that might have the
checksum that is expected by the router only to find none.

Does anyone have any insight?

coz i was asked this question when in the computer shop .and for a 16M

like Samsun but can any one interpret what the following mean:
  Cisco specified:
16 MB (4 MB x 36, 70 ns DRAM SIMM)
 Hitachi HB56D436SBR-7AGS
 Hyundai HYM536410M-70
 Mitsubishi MH4M36ANXJ-7

 Samsung KMM5364100A-70

above are the approved model of 16M memory ,
what doese 4 MB x 36 mean?

RE: 2500 flash and RAM

2000-07-29 Thread Aaron K. Dixon

They use 72-pin SIMMs. The x36 represents parity memory. 72 pin SIMMs
provide 32 data bite per cycle plus 4 parity bits which equals 36 bits.
Non-parity SIMMs would be represented by x32. The 4 is a representation of
the 4 DRAM chips that make-up a 16MB SIMM.

Excellent prices, if you're not in a hurry (ship from Hong Kong).

I ordered an 8mb flash module that was an exact match (AMD) to the module
already in my 2524 a week ago from Anthony Panda. It came from Hong Kong in
about a week, and cost about $24 with shipping (via Air Mail). It appeared
to be brand new in a sealed static bag. It's working great.

yes, I know it
in this case ,
 1. boot the router from any tftp server using
boot system tftp
 2. reload

so, you can see the flash - sh flash -and you find it "read/write"

RE: 2500 Flash - Read Only [7:57323]

2002-11-13 Thread Phil Lorenz
If you are seeing read only @ the Sho Ver, then odds are you have run
from FLASH IOS. The 2500 was initially a run from RAM device, but due
to their limited memory of 16/16 have been written into more of a hybrid
mode.

What does this mean?

Boot the router into boot mode (no rommon with this device). Once in
boot mode, go to enable and erase flash. Once the FLASH has been
erased, set an IP address and download the IOS of your choosing. Next,
change the config-reg back to 0x2102 and reload the router. The new IOS
code should appear and the FLASH should again appear as read only.

All the best!
Phil

Can I manually change the Flash memory on a 2500 to Read\Write in order
to
load an image onto it. It is displaying as Read Only at the moment. I
can
load images with the software loader so I am assuming there is a way of
changing the designation.

Sincerely,

DW
