Thanks to everyone for your input, I heard it wasn't that bad compared to
the other 3. If you know the material from those it shouldn't be that bad.
Plus I have some SNA experience from way back in 89' - wow dating myself. I
hope to read/study/do home labs and pass by mid July.

Thanks again to all for input.

I also share your feeling. Took this test today, and frankly speaking,
I didn't feel that I'm deserved to have a pass (missed many questions in
async/PPP, ISDN protocols), however, because of this easy way to guess a
command, I barely passed with 819.

RE: Passed BCRAN [7:24213]

2001-10-28 Thread Brian Wilkins

I must respectfully disagree on the BCRAN being so easy for one simple
reason: there were some questions that were simply unfair. Let me preface
it by saying that I passed it a few days ago with an 875.

Now, here's my beef with the test. There were some questions that asked for
one answer, where given the information, more than one answer was correct.
One of those that specifically comes to mind had to do with setting up a
frame-relay connection and it wanted a single answer. It did not tell you
what version of the IOS was running, but two, out of a list of 5 or 6
possibilities were "assign it statically using the frame map command" which
seems right to me, and "assign it dynamically using inverse ARP", which is
also correct if you are running IOS 11.3 or later. I, of course entered my
comments on it.

There were other questions that had only one correct answer, but asked for
two choices. One of those that I recall had to do with PPP Multilink, and
which technologies could use it. The possibilities were Ethernet, Token
Ring, ISDN, and some other LAN technology. Unless I've missed something,
PPP multilink would only work, in that scenario using ISDN. But I had to
pick 2!!

The "fill in the blank" questions, like you stated, were REALLY easy,
especially when they even go so far as to put things in the possible options
as the exact number of the dialer list that's contained within the question,
etc. Kinda dumb, but I guess that's their way of making up for the
impossible to answer questions like those I mentioned above.

For what it's worth.

Passed Remote Access on Monday (909/1000, 703 to
pass). This is the most straightforward exam I have
seen so far (switch, support and RAS). For example,
when they ask you to choose a X25 or ISDN command from
the list, sometimes the list has only one command
starting with "x25" or "ISDN". You can't miss it.

While taking the test, the NT server crashed TWICE and
I had to complete the Cisco survey three times.
Fortunately, the test was easy and I didn't panick.

I want to thank everyone on this list for direct /
indirect help. Now on to my last exam: routing!

For me BSCN was harder than BCRAN and Support was easier. I recommend
taking Support last since is it basically a review of the other three tests
but from a Support point of view Plus extra troubleshooting related
questions.

BSCN = BGP, BGP, and BGP plus OSPF, EIGRP, and a little RIP

Passed today. A very near pass I must add. This has been the hardest test
for me so far. Please don't get me wrong I am not trying to intimidate
anyone. Maybe I was unlucky and I got the hard test but let me say just
this: don't bother showing up at the test center unless you are VERY well
prepared.
I got a couple of poorly worded questions and one that was not in the exam
objectives.
I thought I was going to do better by I was wrong. Anyway a pass is pass no
matter the score (two down two to go).My method of preparing: CCNP Remote

exams. As always thank you group for your support.

RE: PASSED BCRAN! + BIG gripe [7:7794]

2001-07-03 Thread Robert Padjen

Thanks for the comment about the Sybex book. ;)

Note, there is a lot of commenting on the 'lack' of
700 series material on the RA exam. All RA books have
this material because it is in the objectives. Cisco
can, and does, change material from time to time, and
it seems clear that the 700 material was removed in
part - be thankful that it did. The platform really is
a hybrid, and there is little that the 800 or 1600
cannot provide for a reasonable price/performance.

Please do not be upset with the authors re the 700
material. We base the books on the objectives and our
experiences.

2001-07-03 Thread Harrison, Michael

I think the main point of Mike W's message is that the Boson test is the
MOST accurate prep for the tests than any of the books. I recently passed
the CID test and the Boson tests hammered Stratacom. None of the books on
CID that I looked at to study mentioned Stratacom at all. Granted that CID
is a 100 question test and the Stratacom questions were This is ridicously
serious, are u joking I guess if he reads the question

The Syngress Published book CCNP Remote Access Study Guide ISBN:007211908X
has an excellent section (Ch2) on ALL of the relevant Cisco Router
offerings. The IDG

I find that its better, if you can afford it, to not stick with just one
source but go to multiple sources not only to get a balanced view but also
to find other information omitted by another publisher/author. The future
gains always (hopefully) outweigh the present costs.

After all, all these books are just an authors/publishers interpretation of
the Exam Objectives. Its pot luck what questions you get in the exam so
best to cover ALL the bases if you can.

If you look at the objectives for the exam and all of
the books, each spend a lot of effort on the 700
series. The beta and live exams that I've seen had a
lot (roughly 10). It would appear that with the death
of the product line they've killed the questions too.

Raheem,

I only had the BRCAN book to study and it covered all you need to know. The thing is
to know all what is in the book. I found that in everyday life the stuff in the BCRAN
was the most useful of all the exams.

Then again I guess that depends on what you do and the sort of networks you run. Each
topic had its place.

I used bcran e-learning thing by cisco, syngress book and boson tests.
boson test #1 is good. #2 is almoust the same.
DDR, frame relay, ISDN. not much of x25, nat and aaa. lot of product. two-minute drills
from syngress book are good.

For the BSCN I have taken, only one to two questions are related to product

So, study hard for the above two topics (but don't forget EIGRP!!!).

RE: Passed BCRAN

2000-11-07 Thread Anton Khan

Scott,

I am studying for the BCRAN right now and there is one issue that
contiues to puzzle me. Do we have to be familiar with the 700 series
routers or not. I figure anyone who has done the BCRAN recently would be in
the best position to answer this question so hopefully you or someone from
the study group will add their two cents.

For what it's worth there are a lot of really bright and talented people on
this study group. It is a great resource for any up and coming CCNP or
CCIE.

Anton

Raheem,
You can check out the mentortech classes at www.mentortech.com. (I am not an employee
of Mentortech, but I do recommend them)
The archives are on the groupstudy website. Instead of asking the same question over
and over it is a good idea to check the website
first.

Re: Passed BCRAN

2000-09-08 Thread Jon

Since a true "study guide" is not available, and BCRAN = Building Cisco
Remote Access Networks, most people use only the Paquet book for Remote
Access 2.0 and do just fine.

Re: Passed BCRAN

2000-09-08 Thread Ian Schorr

I'm confused. Is the test that everyone's talking about passing the "BCRAN"
or the "Remote Access" exam? So far I've been reading them as one and the
same, but since the BCRAN book from Cisco Press (which I own) is supposed to
cover the same material as the BCRAN (class), not an Exam Guide (Cisco Press
says their Remote Access exam guide will be out in December), I'm starting
to wonder.

I thought the BCRAN (class) was supposed to be good preparation for the
Remote Access exam, but that there was no actual BCRAN test?

Re: Passed BCRAN

2000-09-08 Thread michael champion

Congratulations on passing BCRAN. However, if you used the Paquet CiscoPress
book, I wouldn't exactly call it reviewing a few chapters. Rewriting a few
chapters would be more accurate! This book has glaring errors on just about
every page, and I am astonished that CiscoPress doesn't have a link to an
errata for it. The errors are not merely typos, but whole sections of
commands repeated with the same error (example "dialer-map" instead of
"dialer map"), completely misleading and erroneous information about "dialer
enable-timeout" and "dialer hold-cue", etc. And who can forget the assertion
that you use Reverse Telnet through Windows 95 HyperTerminal to configure a
modem attached directly to the local PC!

After reviewing the material on the Cisco web-site I realized that Cisco
could have presented questions that could have failed nearly everyone if
they wanted to. Even Cisco's own documentation occasionally has errors.

Regards,
MLC

Re: Passed BCRAN today!!

2000-07-11 Thread Charlemagne

Don't undervalue X.25. It is still in use within
the US, but in Europe and other places around the
globe, X.25 is very widely used. As Cisco is a global
company, your certification should be globally
based and not based on what is in use in the US
today.
