Re: isdn help needed..please

2000-11-22 Thread news.flash.net

I agree with jenny. The user busy in the q931 makes me want to see the 931
at the recieve end as well as the sh isdn sta. I think the site 2 end has
some line /layer 1 problems. Also, I will sometimes do a dial bri 0
111- to my cell phone and see if it rings . that will give me a layer
1/2 warm fuzzy.

Re: isdn help needed..please

2000-11-22 Thread David Armstrong

I agree with the previous 2 posts. You need to look at the remote router.
Since the error message from q931 denotes a lower level problem I'd also run
Debug ISDN q921 which will give you information about your data link
connection and possibly tell you exactly why the router is returning a busy
signal.

As for needing both routers to be on the same subnet, the exact opposite is
true (from my experience anyway, there may be a way to do that but I don't
know how). If you have both routers configured for the same subnet, how will
one router know which side of the router to send it too? The only way that
would work to my knowledge is to set it up the router as a switch and simply
send every packet across each router. There is far less traffic if the
router knows that PacketA goes to MySideOfTheNetwork and PacketB goes to
TheOtherRoutersSideOfTheNetwork.

Re: isdn help needed..please

2000-11-22 Thread David Armstrong

I reread Brian's post and understand what he's saying. Basically it's a case
for not using "ip unnumbered ethernet0" and assigning an ip address to each
BRI interface making the point-to-point link between them its own subnet
with the ethernet side of each router being on yet another subnet (3 subnets
total).

I've done that to avoid routing problems on routers where I have a bank of
BRI interfaces that would otherwise be using the same ip unnumbered
interface, but in your case I'd leave it like it is.

Re: isdn help needed..please

2000-11-21 Thread jenny . mcleod

Actually, I regularly use IP unnumbered with different subnets for dialup
links, quite successfully. I also doubt that an IP problem would cause a
'user busy' error with the call setup, although I have seen some fairly odd
errors returned at various times so you never know :-)

What does 'show isdn status' show at each end? I assume it's not a simple
case of the BRI on the called router being in use for something else?
How about debug isdn q931 at the called end - does SITE2 see the incoming
call at all?
Debug dialer at both ends might show something useful as well, and debug
ppp negotiation can sometimes throw up interesting information.
Or, of course, you may have a telco problem with the line at one of the
sites...
