Hello back to you
I have had cancer since 1993 and survived breast cancer, and now am fighting
CML.So far Tasigna is working for me as Gleevec stopped a while ago. I
feel luck as I've had this for 12 years now, and when diagnosed was only given
5We are all fighting for the same thingto live. You are an inspiration
to all of us. We all need to support one another. When religion, politics
etcget in the way of our supporting each other, I feel that this site is
not working well. I know we all have opinions and that's fine, but lets not
fight with one another over things that really don't matter. In the end, we
have each other. I take one day at a time, and try so hard to be positive. I
wish that for each and every one of you. Hugs to allMillie

  Hello to the group,
Jeanie I agree with you, if we have a difference of opinion then, we should
take it off
the group and try to make nice. I neither agree or disagree when I do see a
tiff coming on
I have had CML most likely the longest in the world, and the way things are
going
think this may be the end of it. One of you will become the longest etc etc.
 I look
at Lottie and see a bright spirit and wish we all could be like her. Folks I
have seen
many very nice people who did not make it, and wish I could talk with them
again,
they were wonderful people trying to work through their Cancer. This past
two
years I have failed all those new drugs (you call them new) and now I am on
nothing.
I look forward to reading email on the site, every day. You have wonderful
people
on these groups treat them kindly, you just never know.
thank you group for just being there

just to be near water and I like to check out the babes (smile). I'll be 71 on
July 22nd, my body no's it's 71 but my mind thinks it's 21. We are
selling all our belongings and just taking our cloths, and of course my
fishing
gear.

This part is for the guys, one thing that did happen to me yesterday is my
wife gives me a shot of testosterone every Wednesday. I've been back on
the shots for almost two months. About 30 min. after my shot I started to
get fatigue and I do mean fatigue, it lasted all day into the night. Then
it went away almost as fast as it started. This is the third time in the
last 2 months. I know this is not a women thing but maybe one of the guys
out their may have had this same thing happen to them. I use to take a gel
each day but that didn't do much for me, always had a lack of energy, etc.
When I first started STI-571 in 2000 my study at Northwestern I was on the
shots and never had a problem, now 9 years later something new. I still
think that their are things out their that they don't know what side effects
and others drugs will not mix with Gleevec. I called my nurse this morning
and told her what happened and her reply was take the shot before bed time
and sleep through the fatigue. WOMEN, they just don't understand us men.

Hello to the group,
Jeanie I agree with you, if we have a difference of opinion then, we should
take
it off

the group and try to make nice.  I neither agree or disagree when I do see a
tiff coming on
I have had CML most likely the longest in the world, and the way things are
going

think this may be the end of it.  One of you will become the longest etc etc.
I
look

at Lottie and see a bright spirit and wish we all could be like her.  Folks I
have seen
many very nice people who did not make it, and wish I could talk with them
again,

they were wonderful people trying to work through their Cancer.  This past two
years I have failed all those new drugs (you call them new) and now I am on
nothing.
I look forward to reading email on the site, every day.   You have wonderful
people
on these groups treat them kindly, you just never know.
thank you group for just being there

This group is a wonderful griyo and I have been on it since the beginning way
back when it was a yahoo list.
Sometimes arguments like this happen, but it doesn't in anyway diminish what
this group accomplishes.  It has helped me in more ways than I could say. For
you to say this list is a "joke" then you just don't know much about this group
and the people that on it daily.  I just sent the information on Dr Talpaz and
from the article it certainly looks like he was on the team that developed
Gleevec.
Let's all come together and fight this CML like the Warriors we are.

Really, Ted, 4 million? That seems like such an unreasonable number
to me, since I was told in the beginning when diagnosed back the last
of January, '04 that this was a 'rare' form of Leukemia. And, the
information given to me back then was that there were only around 5000
to 6000 cases of CML. Yes, I know there have been many more diagnosed
since then, but I have to question this number, especially for one
country. And, if I'm wrong, I apologize.

[CMLHope] Re: gall bladder surgery what foods to avoid?

2010-07-02 Thread Suzieq
Jeanie:
I have no idea about the foodsI do remember that after my surgery,
I still had some problems and the doctor sort of made me avoid fried
foods and spicy foods for about six weekssort of like they use to
put people on a bland type diet who had ulcers.but that was it.
Mom told me that most likely it's the "pork" products that I eat that
could be upsetting me at times. I really don't know and wished I did.
Yesterday we stopped to eat breakfast where I go often and I had a
half order of biscuits & plain white gravy with crispy bacon &
coffee. Not long (within five minutes) after I ate, I had to
practically run to the bathroom. It was mostly just yellow
water..this went on frequently throughout the morning and then my
side starting hurting as usual. I felt a little better later on after
eating some vanilla yogurt as well as a little cottage cheese.

I am having a colonoscopy the 27th with "supposedly" a good lady
doctor who comes out from the city, so I am hoping to finally learn
what's going on. I am also going to ask about the gall bladder and
foods. I decided earlier this year I had to quit blaming all my
little health problems on "Gleevec", LOL!!! I have had this type of
intestinal problem for a long time though. It use to be even worse &
I hated to travel cause I never knew when it was going to hit me. I
finally decided not to eat anything while on the road until I got to
where we were going. When my mom brought this up earlier this year
about it maybe being associated with my having my gall bladder out,
it was like a light bulb going off in my head. Cause I was young (24)
when i had that done, & I do not remember having any of this before
that.

Will let you know what I find out.

[CMLHope] Re: Beat CML

2010-07-02 Thread Suzieq
Really, Ted, 4 million? That seems like such an unreasonable number
to me, since I was told in the beginning when diagnosed back the last
of January, '04 that this was a 'rare' form of Leukemia. And, the
information given to me back then was that there were only around 5000
to 6000 cases of CML. Yes, I know there have been many more diagnosed
since then, but I have to question this number, especially for one
country. And, if I'm wrong, I apologize.

[CMLHope] Re: Hi group

2010-07-02 Thread Suzieq
Jeanie:

Yesthat's my husband's "mantra", I do believe.."why change if
what you're doing now is working" & that is kind of how I feel,
too.I know your story as well as others who have
been here with us @ CML Hope where Gleevec began to fail after being
on it for several years. I guess I am very thankful that now, if it
should begin to fail, we have many more options than we did in the
beginning. So, I "thankfully" swallow that little gold pill each day
& (dare I mention) "praise the Lord" for being able to see another
day. (smile) I am now able to just see my Hem/Onc only twice a year &
I sort of plan to make a day out of it, since it's in St. Louis and I
live about 80 miles away. My mom goes with me and I make my
appointments early in the day so we have time to go do things we don't
normally get to do afterwords, whether it be shopping or "site"
seeing such as the Botanical Garden or maybe the Zoo. Oh, and lest I
forget, we always, always plan to have a nice meal somewhere special
like "Adrianna's" on "The Hill"! (yummy) And, my doctor (Dr. Amanda
Cashen) or her nurse, Holly, will spend all the time I need with me
and answers any questions I might have. I think every doctor I've had
since going up to Sitemen has been that way, they sit there and just
relax after your exam and you feel free to talk to them almost about
anything. LOL!!! I only had one that sort of "wearied" me a bit,
but not because he didn't spend time with me or answer my questions.
His name was Dr. Vig..and it never failed when I visited,
sometime during the visit, he would say "I need to go check the
computer about this"..LOL!!! I only had him for a little
time, then my next visit I was told I would be seeing another because
Dr. Vig was only taking the more seriously ill patients. My husband
thought that was a good thing...it meant I was doing well. LOL!!!

One thing I tell all with a serious illness or chronic disease such as
what we have, you have to have a sense of humor. Look for the
comical, something to make you laugh! Don't be so serious all the
time & don't just sit around and focus on all the sickness. It'll
drive you to depression & having this disease is depressing enough,
LOL!!!

Ok, I've said enough. Except for this, let's stop with the personal
attacks...that isn't what this site is all about, people.

Love & kindness to all,
Suzieq

This group is a wonderful griyo and I have been on it since the beginning
way back when it was a yahoo list.
Sometimes arguments like this happen, but it doesn't in anyway diminish
what this group accomplishes. It has helped me in more ways than I could
say. For you to say this list is a "joke" then you just don't know much about
this group and the people that on it daily. I just sent the information on
Dr Talpaz and from the article it certainly looks like he was on the team
that developed Gleevec.
Let's all come together and fight this CML like the Warriors we are.

Sheila:

Dr. Talpaz did not NOR did he have any input on the development of
Gleevec. His main focus was the old drug Interferon, of which he is
still experimenting with this drug to help Gleevec along.

The only way Dr. Moshe Talpaz became involved was when at MD Anderson,
he chose to become involved since he realized his pet, Interferon, was
going nowhere fast!!! This is the scoop!

I did not want to embarrass you in front of the group so I am choosing
to just email you privately.

I just thought I would give you a little bit of history. This does
not make Dr. Talpaz in my opinion any less of a doctor...BUT he had NO
INVOLVEMENT in the trials with Gleevec.

Hugs,
Susan Rosenthal

easy to do that without realizing. I use to use "Noadware" which
cleaned off all the spyware cookies and such, but since having a
problem with a program that was on my computer that interfered with
internet service and just gave me general grief period, my son cleaned
everything off and added "Malwarebytes Anti-malware" as well as
"Avast! Anti-virus" and I just use all that frequently. It won't let
me activate the Noadware program anymore, but it was a good program
to use and simple. "AVG" is also a very good one to use as well.

I use Facebook and have no problem. Just set your privacy controls
and also "block" what or who you do not want. I do not know of any
other CML'ers on there except maybe a couple from other countries. I,
too, miss all our fellow CML survivors that use to post frequently
here. It helped us all tremendously. I do hope they are doing well.

I finally broke down and visited my doctor's nurse practitioner
(primary doc.) who I was told is better than he is. I have to agree,
I liked her very well. Told her what was going on with the pain in my
side and wanting to schedule the colonoscopy to see what is going on,
so it is set for the end of July. Everyone still thinks it's most
likely Diversticulitis, which I do too. Along with not having a gall
bladder. All the years since having that removed, I never once
thought about my intestinal problems stemming from that. LOL!!! My
mom being a nurse for many years (she's 81 now) came up with that
saying that it seems that doctors quit giving their patients
information on what not to eat after having their gall bladders
removed like they did back in the earlier years such as fifties and
sixties when she worked for our family doctor in one of the local
clinics and hospitals. I had mine removed in '77 and they never told
me one thing about certain foods causing
digestive & intestinal problems afterwards. Oh well, we live and
learn, don't we?

She did run blood work, and all really looked good. My total
cholesterol is down to 190, I can remember back in fall of 2004 after
being on Gleevec since Feb. of that year, it ran around 356 with my
good being a high number. The reason he let me work on it through
diet and stuff..but, I am pretty sure it's the Gleevec that has
brought it down and under control. The only red flag I saw was my
platelets were 182 and I need to get my last blood work done at my
Hem./Onc. last Feb., cause I thought they were up around 240
something. Not sure why they've dropped like that if it's true. I
see her the 12th of July, so am not concerned. If there is a
problem, I know she'll catch it.

Everyone have a great day.

[CMLHope] gall bladder surgery what foods to avoid?

2010-07-02 Thread ICANDOALLTTC
Hi Suzieq,
I had my gall bladder removed also and have always suffered with a pain in
my right side under my ribs. I believe it stems from the gall bladder
surgery but don't know for sure. I have had CT scans with nothing showing up
at all. I didn't know you weren't supposed to eat certain fools either.
What foods are you supposed to avoid?
Thanks
Jeanie<3

2010-07-02 Thread sheila
You really crack me up that you posted this for everyone to see. Like
I told you this does not embarass me, and no I wasn't having a bad day
I was actually having an awesome day. I don't know how you don't
think that the first e-mail you sent me was agressive??? All I was
doing why trying to give Greenie some inside on Dr. Talpaz and then
you come along and tell me that I don't kow what I'm talking about
when I was told by Zavie a few years back (and I'm really sure I could
find the e-mail) that Talpaz was on the gleevec team, plus Talpaz told
me himself...and I wasn't personally calling Zavie a liar (sorry if
that's the way you took it Zavie and Marty) I was asking you Susan if
you thought he was a liar, sorry if you can't understand my sarcasm.
I used to find his group helpful and now all it is is people
constantly nit picking everything, what a joke anymore! Also you
didn't post my last e-mail to you yesterday so I will paste it here,
don't want to leave anything out do we? Since I'm such a mean
agressive person :)

Subject: Re: about your comment on Dr. Talpaz

Is this a threat...WOW grow up and if you feel the need to post this
so go right ahead I really don't care and if you think this would be
embarrass me you are so wrong. What a joke you are and I thought
this site was something good well with people like you "lurking" I
guess I was wrong. Like I said grow up and if you feel like
"tattling" on me to the group because apparently you know it go right
ahead :)
