Stus-List Cabin light florescent fixtures

SteveI have two of these available.  I replaced the stbd settee light with
two led fixtures and a dimmer from sailorsSolutions.com .  One is in great
shape.   The other had a switch problem.  Let me know if you are
interested.Spencer Johnson '84 LF38 #165ALEGRIARacine,  WI / Mount Prospect,

Re: Stus-List Florida... was Cabin Flourescent Light Fixtures

2015-11-21 Thread Evan Morgan via CnC-List
Great marina except for the no see ums. No tides, no extra liveaboard fees (but
doesn't look/feel like a trailer park), great hurricane hole, and right across
the river from the Canaveral locks for when you want to go outside. Bar food is
good and it's cheap.
Anyway, we're on E dock. We get down there every other month or so. Maybe we'll
cross paths some day. :-)

Same marina! I am pretty impressed with the place so far.
Seems fairly well managed and friendly as far as I could tell in the few days I
was there.
Expensive if all you wanted was a place to store your boat, but not bad as
marinas go.
The blackened Mahi sandwiches in the restaurant are not bad either.
Don't care for the no-see-ums much, but they manage to find me wherever I go
down south.

Does anyone know if the flourescent light fixtures as used in the main cabins
of late 1970s to at least early 1980s C&C yachts are still available?
I just bought a fixer-upper 1979 36 MKI where both have been removed.
Yeah I know leds are supposed to be better, but want fixtures that are similar

Re: Stus-List Oil leak in M4-30

2015-11-21 Thread dwight veinot via CnC-List
David
I do exactly that on my M4-30. I use a small impeller drill pump. First I
take the cap off the drain hose and feed the hose down lower towards the
base of the oil sump and then forward as far as it will reach to where I
attach the inlet hose to the drill pump directly to that drain hose, a snug
friction fit that holds the vacuum created by the drill pump, about 1/2
inch inside diameter hose to the pump. I put the outlet hose from the pump
into a 4 liter plastic used oil container. ...always run the engine first
for several minutes to warm the oil which makes it flow easier...works real
good and before removing the filter I make a drain tray by shaping several
layers of old newspaper to fit neatly like a catch basin below the filter
to catch the oil that always escapes when the filter is removed. That
newspaper catch tray and a few strategically placed rags effectively
catches the black used oil mess before it contaminates the bilge when
removing the filter and that makes for a neat clean oil change. I also
cover the cabin sole with newspaper in the areas close to where I am
working just in case of spills and there always seem to be a few drops that
escape regardless of how careful I am with disconnecting and packing up my
drill pump gear for next time, and all that gear gets wrapped in old rags
and newspaper and stored double bag in plastic until next time. I have
been doing my oil changes this way for years with the same gear and I think
I have pretty much perfected the process on my boat.

Re: Stus-List Keel repair

2015-11-21 Thread Dennis C. via CnC-List
On a leading or trailing edge of a keel you need high strength material. A
lightweight fairing compound won't work.

I did some minor keel repair on Touche' a few years back. Just squaring
off the trailing edge. I used epoxy thickened with colloidal silica.
Microfiber thickener would have worked just as well. Both will cure to
high strength.

Re: Stus-List Video of C&C 30 racing in Annapolis

2015-11-21 Thread Gary Nylander via CnC-List
Having raced for the past five years on a J-80 and on a Melges 24, having the
crew in back is to get the bow up and help the boat onto a plane. If you sit in
the middle, it just wants to be a very fast and wet displacement boat. You move
back and the bow comes up, you pop onto a plane, and you go faster - way faster.

I was struck by the fact that with the chute up, the bobstay was constantly
throwing up spray which to me means it is like adding a brake to the bow.
Probably not a big issue on a boat of this size, but on a dinghy it would be
slow. On another boat, the entire crew was standing near the transom,
presumably trying to keep the bow high which I would guess was for the same
reason. It would leave me concerned about the balance of the boat with that
monster chute up. Dave

The attached video was included in a post from a sailing TV website this
morning. I have to say I’m impressed to see so many C&C 30s on the line, and
the performance of the boats is impressive. Certainly not “us father’s” C&C.
And pretty athletic for this fat old man. But impressive none the less.

Re: Stus-List Keel repair

2015-11-21 Thread David Knecht via CnC-List
I have had the same experience that Russ describes with my car insurance- I
enquired about the claim process for an incident (wind blew the spinnaker pole
off the roof racks before I got it strapped down and it rolled off and took out
the rear view mirror), did not file one, and they still recorded it in my
record and added it to my list of insurance events. I should not have given
them my name when I enquired.

Also, I am well aware of the hull issues as I cracked the hull of my C&C 34
hitting a rock the first day out with the family after buying the boat. Great
way to start my boat ownership experience. I have looked at the hull, the yard
guy has looked at it and done some hammer tap testing and the hull appears
sound. We were going pretty slow, so I was surprised at the amount of damage
to the keel. I guess the kevlar reinforced hull of the 34+ is stiffer than the
34. Dave

Re: Stus-List Video of C&C 30 racing in Annapolis

2015-11-21 Thread David Knecht via CnC-List
I was struck by the fact that with the chute up, the bobstay was constantly
throwing up spray which to me means it is like adding a brake to the bow.
Probably not a big issue on a boat of this size, but on a dinghy it would be
slow. On another boat, the entire crew was standing near the transom,
presumably trying to keep the bow high which I would guess was for the same
reason. It would leave me concerned about the balance of the boat with that
monster chute up. Dave

Re: Stus-List Oil leak in M4-30

2015-11-21 Thread David Knecht via CnC-List
Hi Chuck- I think I have the drain fitting so it is not leaking. It would be
really nice when I want to do an oil change if I could hook up a vacuum pump to
the brass fitting on the end of the hose to pump the oil out. Have you seen
anything that will do that? My pump has nylon tubing and no end fittings and
no way I can see to add a threaded attachment. Thanks- Dave
