Stus-List Sen-Dure heat exchanger
Hi. Is there anyone out there who has a diagram, instructions, or other information about a Sen-Dure heat exchanger, model 2827? I have one mounted on my Yanmar 2QM15 engine. I'm eager to change the antifreeze in the unit, but where it is mounted, I have very little access to it. It's difficult even to see where the heat exchanger begins and ends. I would rather not detach it if I can avoid that. I'm sure there must be a drain somewhere that I can't see. I'd appreciate any guidance. Re: Stus-List new haylards
When I replaced the furling headsail on my 30mk1 a few years ago, Brad at Doyle Sails in Halifax recommended using 3/8 Bora from Stright-MacKay for a halyard. I'm happy with it. I just pulled the old wire/rope main halyard out of the mast this fall and ordered a new rope halyard from Cajun Ropes in Yarmouth. I haven't tried it yet but I'm impressed by their service and by the size of the shackle. I'm looking for advice please. I've been thinking for a while about installing permanent preventers or a boom brake on my 30. In the meantime I attach a preventer, when I think it's required, to either the mainsheet eye or to the vang attachment. This week, as I was moving the preventer, we were overtaken by a rain squall which resulted in a nasty gybe. Nobody was injured, but it scared me into rethinking my preventer. Our boom has 2 eyes: one at the end, where the mainsheet attaches and the other about a third of the length from the mast, where the vang attaches. I'd like to make a third attachment for a preventer or boom brake about half way along the boom, but I don't know how to do it. A bale, I think, will not withstand the lateral strain of a gybe. A friend recommended a T-ball fitting, but it also is made to withstand strain from one direction only, I think. Can anyone recommend a fitting that will attach to the boom and withstand the strain of a forced gybe? Also is there collected wisdom about preventers vs boom brakes, etc.? Re: Stus-List Inverter to Outlet Via Extension Cord?
"Similarly with an inverter connected to a battery that is not grounded a GFCI should never trip. Theoretically in a floating system the power has to come out of the Hot lead and return in the Neutral. There will never be a ground fault to trip a GFCI. There is no ground." I'm not an electrician, but my limited understanding is that a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter monitors the hot and neutral leads and interrupts the circuit almost instantly if it detects a difference between them. The ground lead does not come into it. The Xantrex Freedom HF 1000 that I mentioned in an earlier post is *UL458* -listed. "The two UL standards differ in how they handle AC system grounding: *UL1741*-listed inverters must allow for the neutral-to-ground bond to *only* occur at the main AC service panel. *UL458*-listed inverters have internal neutral-to-ground switching relays to allow for this bond to occur at the inverter if in off-grid mode, OR at the utility power service if it is connected to a utility hookup." Perhaps I'm missing something. Derek Kennedy SV Tortuga, 30 mk1 Ballantyne's Cove, NS ___ This list is supported by the generous donations of our members. Stus-List Starting problems
I’m having ignition problems with the 2QM15 engine in my C&C 30 mk1. Normally, when the main switch is turned to on, the oil pressure alarm sounds. Pressing the starter button starts the engine and the alarm stops. This season, after a few successful starts, when I turned the main switch on one day there was no alarm and nothing happened when I pressed the starter. No cranking. Not a sound. My batteries spent the winter in my basement and were fully charged. As well, shore power was plugged in and the charger showed full charge on both batteries. This happened once or twice last season but when I repeated the process the engine started. I assumed that the main switch was worn out and ordered a replacement Yanmar switch from Rosborough Boats. It was my first dealing with them and I was very impressed. Rob Manual had a new switch to me within a day. I had carefully labelled and photographed the connections at the old switch before removing it, but when I installed the new one it didn’t solve my problem. When I keyed the switch on, I got a very weak sounding alarm and pressing the starter button got no reaction. I’m unskilled at tracing problems, so thought I’d ask for help. Re: Stus-List CnC-List Digest, Vol 102, Issue 61
Hi Bruno I'm in Ballantyne's Cove. It can handle 6-1/2 ft draft, is a sheltered harbour to ride out a storm and is a convenient stop for people heading to or from the Canso Causeway. It doesn't offer much in the way of services though. There's shore power, but no dockside fresh water. There's a small fish and chips shop but the town of Antigonish is a 1/2 hr. drive away for supplies. If I'm around and not otherwise occupied I often offer visitors a ride to town. The hiking is good on Cape George. Port Hawkesbury is a good-sized town and so has a lot more services to offer. There's a yacht club there. Montague and Georgetown on PEI are nice towns to visit. Georgetown has a government wharf and lobster season is over now. Montague is farther upriver and has a marina. You might want to check the depth available there. I only draw 5 ft. Both sides of the Montague River are lined with mussel farms. The channel is well marked though. We brought a friends power boat from Shediac to Ballantyne's Cove in late June. The first night we tied up at the Charlottetown Yacht Club. Day 2 brought us to Ballantyne's. About 65 miles per day. A large portion of that was getting into and out of Charlottetown. It's a long way in. The advantage is that there are a lot of services available; restaurants, bars, etc. Good sailing Derek C&C 30 Mk1- Tortuga Ballantyne's Cove, NS > > I heard good things on Ballantine's cove and Port Hawksbury. it's further > east but is it worth the trip, easy to go to ? > > > > > > > ___ This List is provided by the C&C Photo Album Email address: CnC-List@cnc-list.com To change your list preferences, including unsubscribing -- go bottom of page at: http://cnc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/cnc-list_cnc-list.com
Re: Stus-List Keel Fairing
"For minor fairing you can use AwlFair or 3M Premium Filler. For deeper spots start with 3M High Strength Filler then smooth with the lighter fillers." I also have some cracking on the trailing edges near the keel/hull joint. I'm thinking I should dig it out and re-fair it. I was reading a blog in which the author recommended using 3M 5200 for its flexibility. Below is a quote from the blog. I'm soliciting opinions here. Thanks Dennis and Wally Derek Tortuga, 30/1 Ballantyne's Cove, NS "*The first thing to do if you're going to fix this clean up both the joint and the surrounding area, about an inch to each side of the joint. Clean it down to the fiberglass or gelcoat. Make sure it's all dry and clean.* *Next, run a piece of blue painter's masking tape about 1/2" to 1" parallel to and on either side of the joint. Get a pack of inexpensive sqeegees. Evercoat makes a three pack. They're flexible and cheap. Good thing, because they're one use.* *Finally, with a caulking tube of 3M 5200 or 4200 in the color of your choice (I use black), put a bead all along one side of the joint in the keel. Don't be afraid to use more than you need. With the squeegee spread the 5200 evenly and smoothly from front to back. The bead should be spread evenly between the tape filling to the thickness of the tape."* ___ This List is provided by the C&C Photo Album http://www.cncphotoalbum.com CnC-List@cnc-list.com
