Re: Stus-List Winter Cover Measurements for C&C 30-2
Hi Pete, I have one of the Quinte Canvas ones meant for mast up storage. I can't get to the boat until mid to late May though...after that I can send you some dimensions. Quinte Canvas does have the measurements for the 30-2 on file though I don't know if he (Dave Davis) would share that. I paid about $2350 CAN for the frames and cover back in November 2007, likely more expensive now. They ship everywhere. I probably have pics with the frames assembled. Pete, I have the cover you want avaiable for sale. I had it built for Septima, a 30-2, when I used to winter store her on the hard in CT. Haven't had beed for years. You could contact Quinte Canvas (Top Shop). I know they have all the sizes on file and have built many of them. I'm not sure if they'd want to sell one or just provide the sizes, but they're supposed to be a great product. Re: Stus-List Winter Cover Measurements for C&C 30-2
Peter, per se, I do not use a winter cover. However, I did have the topside of the boat newly shrink wrapped this fall. The is the second shrink wrap cover I have done. The first shrink wrap cover was 10 years old and had gotten a little tired and duct tape patched. For four years the boat was out of the water sitting in the yard with this cover in place. The other years it was off from mid May to early October and stored in the overhead of my garage. It is supported by a 4" pvc pipe mounted in the mast step extending some 3 ft above the cabin top. Spinnaker pole mounted forward and light galvanized fence pipe to a foot above the aft pulpit with poly strapping going across the center to the stanchions to handle snow load. That conduit is pretty strong. I use it for my cover. I also use 1.5" black water pipe. The biggest issue is to make sure that the supports don't bend sideways (leaving much bigger gap between them). https://www.customcoversandcanvas.com/ I don’t know how far they travel, but they come to Erie from the Niagara Falls, NY area (near Buffalo), which is about two hours by car. As I recall, the upfront cost for my 42 was a little under $5K (installed). I was a bit surprised because two friends who convinced me that it’s the way to go (Sabre 42 and C&C 41) each paid about $1,000 less a couple years earlier. The annual payment also increased from one payment of about $350 to two payments of a little over $200 each (fall and spring). Nevertheless, I’m glad I made the up-front investment, and I’m really glad that my winter cover is now on autopilot. The cover is great, and I’m getting too old for this DIY frame stuff. Re: Stus-List Winter cover frame - Frame Maker Clamps
I used the Framemaker system to make a frame for my C&C 34 and the frame worked great. The problem I had was getting tarps in the right size and in place and tied down to cover the boat adequately and not abuse the paint with rope burns. As a result of that problem, I had a custom cover made (The Canvas Store) for my current boat that fits over the rig and ties to the toe rail with the mast up and have been been even happier with that setup. I have used the new cover for 5 winters and it is still going strong. Re: Stus-List Winter cover C&C 40
I wood look at the frameless covers. I bought mine from Canvas Store in Long Island. Life-time warranty. Every few years I would send the cover back to them for fixing minor issues such as tangs coming loose from uv damage to stitching. Shipping costs both ways and repairs covered 100% by them. However the best things about the cover was it’s weight - each of 3 pieces could easily be carried up a ladder one handed! And the ease of installation. I could put the whole thing on in less than 1 hour provided I had preprepared the multiple ties needed. -- Jonathan Indigo C&C 35III SOUTHPORT CT > On Sep 27, 2018, at 10:52, Patricia Walsh via CnC-List > wrote: > > The boat had a custom made frame and cover. Re: Stus-List Winter cover C&C 40
Patricia, I had a cover made by the Quinte Canvas on my C&C 24. After a while, the fabric got old and disintegrated in a few places. I kept the metal frame and used a big, heavy duty, marine tarp. I don’t remember the dimensions, but it was probably 30’ x 24’. You need a few feet extra on the bow and stern. For the width, you need the beam plus 2 times the height of the highest support. This should give you enough canvas to drop well below the deck to hull joint. Then you have to find the tarp that is the right size (probably a bit larger). If it is too wide, it would be dragging on the sides. For your boat, I would go for something like 45’ long (at least) and about 30’ wide. The tarp like that should not cost more than around $500-$600, I think. Though, the larger tarps might cost more. Just checked and our local Chandlery sells a 30 x 48 tarp for USD $525 ($700 CAD). Of course a custom made cover is so much nicer. I still have the frame, however, I had to throw the cover out as it had rotted due to a leaking roof where it was stored. (I wish they had told us.) The frame is metal pipe. I have four clamps to support the frame. I don't know if I should have more?? I want to cover the boat. I would like to either buy a used cover or a tarp to put over the frame but I do not know the dimensions of the original cover or who made it so I could call and ask. My husband passed. He would have known. Can anyone help me? Thank you. Patricia ___ Thanks everyone for supporting this list with your contributions. Each and every one is greatly appreciated. Patricia – Here’s the manufacturer of the cover I have. I hope it helps as another point of reference/source. http://www.fairclough.com/winter-boat-covers/ From: CnC-List On Behalf Of Patricia Walsh via CnC-List Sent: Thursday, September 27, 2018 9:52 AM To: cnc-list@cnc-list.com Cc: Patricia Walsh Subject: Stus-List Winter cover C&C 40 The boat had a custom made frame and cover. Patricia: If you like to sew, you can make a cover. Sailrite (www.sailrite.com) has a DVD which is currently on sale for $9.95. You can use a standard sewing machine for sewing sunbrella. I would post some pics of the parts you have. May be able to determine who made it from the fittings. Do you remember what color the cover was? Where was the boat located when the cover was made? Quinte Canvas has most dimensions and made a lot of covers for C&C's. http://www.topshop.on.ca They can probably assist with dimensions. ___ Thanks everyone for supporting this list with your contributions.
