That's pretty vague. What problem exactly? Is there some update the app needs that you don't have? e.g. I can understand maybe needing a certain version of the .net framework. So why, if the problem involves McAfee and Windows Update, did you ask about updates to Internet Explorer? There's certainly nothing wrong with updating to IE8 _before_ installing McAfee. Re: [CGUYS] COMPUTERGUYS-L Digest - 29 Aug 2009 - Special issue (#2009-815)
Yes you can, at least on an intel mac running Leopard, and I'm not so sure you even need Leopard. The OS has no serial numbers or activation keys. This has always been the case for OS X as far as I can remember. Most Mac users are honest and buy the extra licenses, and Apple makes it easy for them to do this by making the cost of a family pack only a little bit more than a single user license. Remember, Apple is primarily a hardware company and the software is an inducement. Besides, Apple probably saves more money than they lose to piracy by not having to have a big licensing infrastructure and by reducing the number of support issues for problems in older OS versions that are fixed in the newer OS. (sorry for forgetting to fix the subject line in the previous post) Well, I'm certainly happy so far. Everything I use works in the 32 bit kernel although EyeTV has a few issues and Office 2004 and some older games still need Rosetta to be installed. In the 64 bit kernel, EyeTV and Parallels don't work and Mathematica prompted me for my serial number but worked properly after that. In either kernel, just about everything is smoother, faster, better. Quicklook works for still more file types including FLV. I especially like that in Safari the Flash plugin runs as a separate process so it can't take down the browser. Also, I can quit the flash plugin process in Activity Monitor if I don't like how much CPU it is using or if I am getting annoyed by flash ads (like the particularly annoying ones that expand to cover the top of the article if you happen to mouse over them and then have to be manually dismissed in order to read the article). Re: [CGUYS] Mac Transition to 64-Bit
Stewart, My preference has been the Kensington Expert Mouse trackball. It has 4 buttons that be programmed. I think it is great for people with CP. The ball is about the size of a cue ball. You can set them for different or the same functions. I like setting one for click, one for double click and one for drag, but you can set them for a number of functions or for no function if you so choose. I hope this helps. Steve Rev. Stewart Marshall wrote: You do not know of any mouse like this do you? A friend of mine with CP uses an Easy Ball (An old product) from MS and it only has one mouse button instead of two, plus I think it is serial. I have been using them with adults with disabilities for over 10 years. Re: [CGUYS] Apple Lied?
David K Watson wrote: (sorry for forgetting to fix the subject line in the previous post) Well, I'm certainly happy so far. Ahh, thanks for the comments. Can you be specific about the issues with EyeTV. I guess there aren't many of us using EyeTV but I'd be interested if EyeTV updates or OS updates fix the issues you are seeing. * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *
Re: [CGUYS] Windows Update i.e. IE 6, 7, 8
Oddly, that brings back memories. As I recall, I couldn't install that one either. Seemed like a good deal, though I bet they would start charging for updates after a bit. Re: [CGUYS] Snow Leopard Review
It is called a forced Hardware Upgrade This happens with MS releases also, although they do go further back than Apple does. I still have an old laptop that I could not install ME on as it was not a fast enough processor (I am not sure it would even install 98SE.) I have a couple of machines at home that will not take 7 as they are below the 1 GB processor threshold. Apple and MS both do this to make sure people do not complain that it makes their systems run like a dog not realizing that the hardware was never designed for it to begin with.
