Why can't I be signed into YM and YMail at the same time on the same computer?
I'm running them on Max OS 10.5.8 using Safari 5.0.2
When I click on the "mail" button on YM, YMail opens, but YM closes.  I get the
following error message:  "You have been disconnected from chat because you

Re: [CGUYS] MagicJack: a VoIP question

2010-01-05 Thread One Man
When the power goes out, you have no phone, like during a lightning storm, very
common here in Texass.  Hence the reason we no longer use earthlink phone,
vonage phone, timewarner phone, skype phone, etc.  Of course your cell will
work if it's charged :)  All of these computer based phones are only practical
as supplements to another system.

Sorry, I don't think it's splitting hairs. You appeared to be alleging
corporate malfeasance, but the example you supplied was employee embezzlement.
It's ACORN again, with different players.

But, again, I'm not saying that there was never any corporate wrongdoing--only
that your example wasn't it. There are probably better examples.

Np, split hairs.  Dell employees push unnecessary products because the
corporate culture rewards them to do so and they embezzle on the side.  Happy?
Is there a connection? Corporate greed, private greed.  Do as I say, not as I
do.  Inadequate safeguards allow and encourage employee embezzlement.  It's
like these companies are reinventing the wheel.  You do know the old story of

That's not "Dell", it's embezzlement by Dell employees. When you say something
like "Corporation ABC has a history of ..." you're implying that the
corporation itself has done something bad (like,
say, marketing cigarettes to minors when you know they cause cancer). That's
clearly not the case you mention here. This is no different from a bank
employee making charges to your account and
pocketing the money. It's embezzlement, and the corporation is one of the
victims, not the perpetrator (or, as one of our local newsguys sometimes says,
the "guilty perpetrator").

Now, I'm not saying that Dell has never done anything wrong. But that's not
this case.

OK, so this is not of interest to you guys, but in Leopard, and I believe in

The only trouble I'm having is that MS seems to be pushing IE8--even after I've
declined to install it 3 times now, and have "hidden" that update.  I don't use
IE (except for updates), and don't want an update.

I have auto updates set for notifications, but if you use the icon at the
bottom of the screen, you do not get to see what is downloading.  You do get a
chance to see what the updates are before you install them.  I suspect I have
downloaded IE8...maybe even twice, but have not allowed the install.

I'm using XP Home SP3.

Is it asking which file format to use?

Start with the Preferences, General tab. Click on Import Settings and
choose a compression format [MP3, AAC...] or uncompressed [AIFF, WAV],
set a bitrate, or create custom higher bitrate settings. With MP3 and
AAC you can put many more tracks on your iPod. AIFF and WAV files are
larger, can have much better sound quality, but fewer will fit on your iPod.

Also select the location for saving your imported music in the
preferences. Otherwise you may forget and not be able to find them if
you want to listen in another player

Um, you are legally required to carry a dl while driving.

Also, why would showing your license be any different then letting them keep
the license while you test the car?

Re: [CGUYS] Sprint Requires SSN to Open Acct, buy Pre

2009-06-22 Thread One Man
It's a deal killer.   It's an inappropriate use of a form of govt id which was
intended for the SS admin, not the convenience of Sprint.  A private biz cannot
require you to divulge your ssn.
It's the same thing when I was trying to buy a car and test driving.  They want
to keep my driver's license.  They want to do this so they can run a credit
check to see if I can afford the car I'm testing.  All they need to know is
that I have a valid dl, and that can be confirmed by visual inspection.
When I test drove a car at another agency, they took no information from me,
only my name.  When I drove away without purchasing, they took my tag down and
a few days later I received a nice ty note for considering biz with them.  It's
apparently legal, but at least I'm not volunteering info they don't really need.

According to Slashdot's article here
you cannot open a Sprint account and buy a Palm Pre without
telling Sprint your Social Security number (ostensibly so they can run a
credit check).

Anybody willing to do that for a mobile phone or is that a deal killer?

Thank you,

You're mistaken.

The poor pay proportionately more sales tax.

It's called a regressive tax.

regressive tax

A tax that takes a higher percentage of low incomes than high ones. Sales
taxes, especially on food, clothing, medicine, and other basic necessities are
widely cited as examples of regressive taxes.

What percentage of everything you consume is produced offshore by "slave labor"

What do you think your Nikes (anywhere) and Kathy Lee Gifford $20 skirts
(Walmart) would cost without it? Would you be willing to pay the "true cost"

Clearly, you've never been in Asia, where "slave labor" provides money to
families who would otherwise lack it or otherwise starve or sell their children
