[Cooker] gFTP ??!?!

2000-07-11 Thread OS

Hello,

What has happened to gFTP ?!

It is all over the place ! So far I have found :

Resume a stopped download - Select the file and press <--, select Resume and
press Okay: Nothing happens. Select the file again and press <-- : gFTP crashes
!

Select a batch of files to download from a site and press <--. Now select
another batch and press <--. When the first set of downloads completes the
second set never starts. All the elapsed times and counts sit at 0 and the
download just stops.

Select a batch of files to download from a site and press <--. Now select a
batch of downloads from a different site and press <--. Select another batch of
downloads from this new site and press <--. When the first set of downloads
finishes the second batch is thrown away and the third batch of downloads start
!!!

If the dial up connection goes down then the only way to resume downloads is to
close gFTP and restart again from scratch (bit cheeky this one since it has
ALWAYS suffered from this !)

If it ain't broke don't fix it ;-)

Use autofs for CD-mounting and be happy. Supermount is a strange
beast: mostly it works just nicely, but sometimes...

Why a sparcstation with 64MB or RAM should be slower than a PC with 64 MB

It would be a pitty to not be able to use graphics with a so nice screen.
Well, this Thursday I will get a sparcstation 2; I'll try.

2000-07-11 Thread Peter Ruskin

I reposted the scripts in my reply to Alex Boag-Munroe. My word, the
posts are taking ages now.

Meanwhile, my reactions to kde2 0708 build ...
It does look beautiful, but I can't believe that it'll be ready for the
scheduled release date, particularly KOffice, which, after konqueror,
ought to be the best killer-app.

I've sent in several bug reports:
#6178 KWord still can't print underlines and doesn't highlight while
spellchecking
#6179 General (wishlist) - lamenting the passing of KPanel and the top
taskbar, which I miss even more than the old menu system (the
latter having nothing to do with KDE, it's a Mandrake
mistake)
#6180 - KMid not working. Started from Konsole, where I saw an
interesting debug message "You're using ALSA but kmid was not
compiled with ALSA support - ask your package builder to include
the support or build from source." I'm amazed that such an
application cares what sound system you're using, as long as it's
an approved linux one. Noatun happily plays wav files...
#6181 KWord produces SIGSEGV while importing simple Word 97 doc
#6182 KSpread can't do date calculations, treating dates as text.
#6183 - KWord crashes while importing plain text file

I did an even better one.

I set it up with rh6.2 just to use it as an Xterm - it works quite well to a
7.1 mdk intel box.

as you say, X is a little slow, but when the server is doing all of the
processing, it works extremely well.

Hi,

I read your reply about supermount kernel panic

"remove supermount from your cdwriter when you have a blank cd"

what does this mean? you want me to remove supermount from fstab everytime
I put in a blank CD?

The kernel panic has been occuring when ML7.1 starts cron jobs at night.. I
tried one night w/o any CD inside adn one night with a CD inside.. dosn't
help..

Right now, I have removed supermount from fstab and so my machine dosn't
crash every night :).. but then i have to su and mount the CD everytime
which i dont' like! I guess this is a potential bug in either supermount or
ML7.1 and I would appreciate your help in fixing it.

[Cooker] shared libraries and X11 problems after install

2000-07-11 Thread Udo Weber

Hi,
Since saturday I tryed 4 times to make a new installations always with
the last cooker-snapshot.
During the installation I got no problems (no dependency-problems, no
other error-messages).

After the first start following errors

# startx
xauth: error in loading shared libraries: libXmu.so.6:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
xinit: error in loading shared libraries: libXmu.so.6:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

# init 5
Starting drakfont Checking drakfont fonts /usr/X11R6/bin/drakfont:
error in loading shared libraries: libXi.so.6:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

kdm: error in loading shared libraries: libX11.so.6:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

INIT: Id "x" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes

This means no X at all !

I researched at the whole system, compared with a second old (but
working) cooker-installation
Result:
after the first installation there is no entry in the /etc/ld.so.conf
for /usr/X11R6/lib
Now I have add this entry and all works as expected.

I wondering that nobody got this problem too but maybe I was the only
one who made a complete new installation from the current snapshot.

I have no idea who (which *rpm) is responsible for this entry but I
think it is very important.
Please fix that.

Thanks in advance
Udo

Re: [Cooker] KDE 2

2000-07-11 Thread Peter Ruskin

Alex,
I've just installed 708 on my Mandrake 7.1 box. I thought XKill wasn't
working, but then I noticed that kdesu was running in the taskbar area
(shame they've killed off tasbar). Shortly after that, the cursor changed
to the killer - so it does work if you'e patient.

You need to do a couple of things:
`chmod u+s /opt/kde2/bin/konsole_grantpty' and
`chmod u+s /opt/kde2/bin/kppp'

Before installation, I would (from a console) ...
mv ~/Desktop ~/Desktop1
mv ~/.kde ~/.kde1
cp -R ~/Desktop1 ~/Desktop2
co -R ~/.kde1 ~/.kde2
ln -s ~/Desktop1 ~/Desktop
ln -s ~/.kde1 ~/.kde
so your Desktop and .kde are now symbolic links, allowing you to have
separate ones for running kde1 or kde2. If something screws up, you have
a fallback too. I include again the previously-posted scripts I use.
Hope this helps ...

#
#!/bin/sh

I'm logging without any problem, that is why i firstly answered
everything was OK.
Those messages are not related to new packages, as i have them since
installation. The only new is the one about char-major 145, that seems
to be related to new esd package (see me first post).

[Cooker] Problems building rpm-3.0.5-0.19mdk

2000-07-11 Thread Reinhard Katzmann

Hi!

There is a problem with a missing file after the build process:

.
.
.
Cleaning files...done
Compressing files...done
Stripping files...done
Relativisation of symlinks...done
Processing files: rpm-3.0.5-0.19mdk
File not found by glob: /var/tmp/rpm-3.0.5-root/usr/lib/rpm/noarch*
Executing(%doc): /bin/sh -e /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.94011
.
.
.

I found out that the i486-linux and i686-linux directory are missing
and several links also are not installed compared to my last installed
version 0.9mdk. After a bit of searching (make install, install-data-local)
I found out, that the installplatform script failed (actually the ln
commands inside the script). They look like this:

ln -s -mandrake- /var/tmp/rpm-3.0.5-root//usr/lib/rpm/noarch-mandrake-
ln -s -mandrake- /var/tmp/rpm-3.0.5-root//usr/lib/rpm/noarch-
rm: /var/tmp/rpm-3.0.5-root//usr/lib/rpm: ist ein Verzeichnis
ln -s -mandrake- /var/tmp/rpm-3.0.5-root//usr/lib/rpm/
rm: /var/tmp/rpm-3.0.5-root//usr/lib/rpm: ist ein Verzeichnis
ln -s -mandrake- /var/tmp/rpm-3.0.5-root//usr/lib/rpm/
mkdir /var/tmp/rpm-3.0.5-root/var/tmp

Somehow the ${ARCH} (and ${arch}) variable is undeclared here. Question is
what should I do now ?

Best regards,

Reinhard Katzmann

no this is a user issue :-) sorry ...

no, this is right.
for security reasons, only the user who've launched Xserver can connect to it (ie
run gfx apps). to allow other machines, type 'xhost machine'.
'xhost localhost' or 'xhost whatever_is_my_machine_name' 'll let root
connect to Xserver.

Re: [Cooker] libgncengine.so.0?

2000-07-11 Thread Quel Qun

A little script can find it for you:

#! /bin/tcsh
#
# Looks for a package that contains a string

set RPMDIR = /cooker/Mandrake/RPMS

set rpmliste = `ls $RPMDIR`

foreach rpm ($rpmliste)
  set trig = `rpm -qpl $RPMDIR/$rpm | grep $1`
  if ($#trig != 0) then
echo $trig found in $rpm
  endif
end
#

Surely not the best but it works.
Of course, through ftp if you don't mirror locally, it 'might' be a bit
slow...

Forwarded from the Win4Lin mail list.

I looked at the kernel patches

no expert, but it looks like they are adding hooks for their program. Could
you guys consider working with them on Mandrake patches? I suppose that
including the patch in the Mandrake kernel by default would be too much. For
may applications, Win4Lin (SCO Merge for Linux) is a better program than
WINE or VMware.

Re: [Cooker] KDE 2

2000-07-11 Thread Christopher Molnar

Hello,

I'm the packager for the KDE2 stuff

Can you please try something and then please let me know what error
messages you get

1. Go into a shell and to your ~/ directory. move .kde to .kde.old.

2. Did you install kde2and1scripts ? This currently requires a force.

3. Is your machine listed in the /etc/hosts file? If not add the line:

127.0.0.1 machinename machinename.domain.name

4. Reboot.

5. now try

Please also let me know if you are using "startx" or if you are logging in
through the Window Manager.

You may also want to try subscribing to the kde2 users list at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] , it is pretty helpfull in getting people
running. Those guys have been using the builds since last November.

We've already a bot that mail us the package that need updates. In
most cas if the package isn't updated to the latest version, it can be
an unstable version, compilation is a pain(I don't speak about just one typo,
I speak about a big problem) so it takes times and the other reason is
maybe the program is just goes out. But wer're trying to do the best
to have the most up-to-date version but keeping a product quality is
important too ;-)

[Cooker] New Package Uploaded -- rat-4.2.6-1mdk.src.rpm [IPv6]

2000-07-11 Thread Christian Zoffoli

%description
RAT is the premier open source voice-over-IP
application. It allows users to particpate in audio
conferences over the internet. These can be between
two participants directly, or between a group of
participants on a common multicast group. No special
features are required to use RAT in point-to-point
mode, but to use the multiparty conferencing facilities
of RAT, all participants must reside on a portion of the
Internet which supports IP multicast. RAT is based on
IETF standards, using RTP above UDP/IP as its
transport protocol, and conforming to the RTP profile
for audio and video conference with minimal control.

RAT features sender based loss mitigation mechanisms
and receiver based audio repair techniques to compensate
for packet loss, and load adaption in response to host
performance. It runs on a range of platforms: FreeBSD,
HP-UX, IRIX, Linux, NetBSD, Solaris, SunOS, and Windows
95/NT. The source code is publicly available for porting
to other platforms and for modification by others.

Note that RAT does not perform call services like user
location, neither does it listen to session announcements
to discover advertised multicast sessions. For these
purposes, it is recommended you use RAT in conjunction
with the Session Directory (SDR), or a similar application.

Hi!

Ok this maybe will be solution, BUT! The question is WHY I don't have
this
fonts? I normally upgraded from 7.0 to 7.1! In which packet are then
those
fonts if I have all XFree fonts installed?

[Cooker] "Freshen" does not work anymore with latest rpm.

2000-07-11 Thread Jürgen Zimmermann

Hello,
I found out that the latest changes in "rpm" (not by Mandrake, I assume)
broke the old behaviour of "freshen", which also worked for the first
case
in the example below.

Here's an example right from my session (in another xterm):
# rpm -Fvh gnome-core-*
package gnome-core-1.2.1-7mdk is already installed
# rpm -Fvh gnome-core-devel-1.2.1-7mdk.i586.rpm
gnome-core-devel
##
# rpm -q rpm
rpm-3.0.5-0.19mdk

After downloading the current rpm-srpm, I found the following line in
the
CHANGES under section "3.0.4 -> 3.0.5"
- internalize --freshen (Gordon Messmer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>).

So long,
  Juergen Zimmermann

RE: [Cooker] Konzole still not working...

2000-07-11 Thread Alex Boag-Munroe

OK, here's the deal:

Reinstalling XFree doesn't do it.

Do you have access to any "working" machines with which you can get these
fonts from? If not, I can zip em and send em to you. You then copy them
over, and it works.

Let me know

Alex

[Cooker] New RPM Macros

2000-07-11 Thread Anton Graham

I'm trying to macroify a couple packages, but am running into a problem.
Configuration files that normally go in /etc are ending up in /usr/etc
with the %{_sysconfdir} expando. But /usr/lib/rpm/macros shows:

%_sysconfdir/etc

/usr/lib/rpm> rpm -qf macros
rpm-3.0.5-0.19mdk

Am I missing something here?

Any hope of getting this into the current 7.1 production release, since
MandrakeUpdate, true to form, doesn't properly update.

So, is there a chance of getting that also fixed in current release kernels
- you know, the ones MandrakeUpdate installs, and then renders the system
unusable?

Seriously, if one has a ReiserFS system, and then applies the MandrakeUpdate
for kernel 2.2.16, the system ends up unusable. This should not be.

Re: [Cooker] KDE 2

2000-07-11 Thread OS

I made the mistake of installing a KDE2 from Mandrake, followed by one from KDE
followed by one from Mandrake. From then on, and I installed the last ones last
night, every time I try to launch konqueror it simply crashes ! As a result I
cannot see what everyone else is raving about ! The only hint I get is dropping
out of X I see a message saying :
KDE detected X error: BadDrawable (Invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) 9
  Major opcode 14

I have also seen messages relating to a bad KInstance also causing a crash.

I would love to see konqueror browsing. Especially since it is fast becoming
obvious that Mozilla is going to amount to nothing on the Linux platform.

Considering how long it took Red Hat to pursuade Real to do a Linux plugin for
bog standard Netscape, what hope is there of trying to get the plugin vendors
to rewrite their plugins for a single instance of a brand new minority browser
on what is currently a minority platform !

Please help me to get konqueror working again.

[Cooker] Some advice please on resetting default look and feel

2000-07-11 Thread OS

Hello,

Please could someone tell me which files I need to adjust to get the following
default settings back. The following are text descriptions of graphic output so
please bear with me !

1) The KDE menus used to show things like :
Applications |>
Configuration |>
etc

But for sometime now all I get is
Applications |
Configuration |
etc

until I put the mouse over the menu item then the '>' reappears and the full
arrow is shown in its depressed state.

2) Applications such as gFTP used to show it trees as follows:
- ftp2.sunet.se
 | |_ emacs-20.7-3mdk..
 | |_ emacs-X11
+

After installing the latest Helix code this chaged to
\/ ftp2.sunet.se
> emacs-20.7-3mdk.
> emacs-X11.
> .

Having now gone back to the latest Mandrake gnome files it has chaged to:
- ftp2.sunet.se
 | | emacs-20.7-3mdk
 | | emacs-X11
+ .

This happens in all Gnome GTK apps. that display trees apart from a few that
display the correct lines but they are dotted. From this I deduce that the tree
connecting lines are configurable, but presumably only by hand !

I have looked in loads of rc files for these offending configurations but I have
not succeeded.

Please help, as this is winding me up !
