Re: [Cooker] KwinTV and problems
I tried urpmi first, but it couldn't find the libGLcore.so.1 I only used --nodeps in this case because I could NOT find the libGLcore file and the original built RPM from you didn't work! I have heard rpmrc is not used anymore. If it is correct, would anybody update manual? --rcfile FILELIST Each of the files in the colon separated FILELIST is read sequentially by rpm for configuration information. Gtkrc files DO NOT define locale. They are being looked for according to locale - i.e. when your locale is foo_bar.XYZ Gtk and path is set as above Gtk will try all of the /etc/gtk/gtkrc.foo_bar.XXX /etc/grk/grkrc.foo_bar ... /etc/gtk/gtkrc.XXX ... the same for every other file. I repeat once more - KDE settings are for KDE only. No other part in system knows and cares about them. And do not forget that keyboard layout is the third component that is independent of both. So to get Euro (is it what you aim at?) you need - define locale with charset that supports Euro (iso-8859-15?) - define keyboard layout that actually allows you to enter Euro Now if you mean that during install you select locale with euro and after install you get locale without an euro - it is a bug. -andrej

[Cooker] Boot Problem -- Cooker or my box?
Hello all, I was in the middle of playing an entertaining game of frozen bubbles and for some reason my computer locked up hard. I don't blame it on the game of course, but I had to hit the power button to restart because it wouldn't respond to any other stimuli. Now, it won't boot fully. I am (well, was) running the latest cooker as of a day or two ago and haven't rebooted for a while. The part where it freezes on boot is when Aurora shows "Running devfsd actions". I meant to disable Aurora but I guess I didn't get around to that. I can't tell if it is freezing on that command or something after that that it doesn't display. I can get to a read-only terminal by booting using init=/bin/bash but other than that I cannot access the system. Is this a problem with something in cooker that could possibly be fixed if I am able to get read-write access with a boot disk and then urpmi --autoselect or is my box just just fubar'd? Actually, mod keys to make the next throw more sticky or more slippery would probably do the job. But I still like the idea of adding ``English'' to a throw. If you do add skull-equivalent balls, it would fit the theme make them just ice, similar to the frozen-over image. You might also want to rename the game ``brass monkey'' given that involves cold balls. (-: Even more OT, the phrase ``freeze the balls off a brass monkey'' actually has nothing to do with simians. In the days of muzzle-loading cannon, the iron balls were kept near the cannon in little pyramidal stacks, held together with a device much like the triangular frame which is used to set up pool balls, made of brass and called a ``brass monkey''. In cold weather, the brass would contract faster than the iron, and if it got cold enough the balls would pop out of the monkey. Cheers; Leon

[Cooker] OT: FrozenBubble/Snood
Very good. The idea of freezing up the playfield instead of coating it with skulls is a distinct improvement. On my one run-through I got to level 27, are there skull-equivalents (ie bubbles which you don't shoot) in later levels? The shots need to be a little more ``slippery'' so you can sneak them through gaps. I think the Snood people are going to be a bit unhappy about a ripoff of their game-play, which they claim to have copyrighted. You might consider a mechanism for ``putting English on the ball'' (shift keys?) to make the gameplay significantly different. I'm impressed that the whole thing was written in PERL, it seems an odd form of masochism. (-: Now - for the next month or so at least - can we please focus on making 8.2 perfect? (-: Cheers; Leon

Yeah that was exactly the case. I had to change all instances of make to gmake ( $MAKE officially ) But the story just continues. The wole package was written with just linux in mind. Re: [Cooker] Linux Gamers => please test my new game "Frozen Bubble"
Hi someones already found the ansewr to this as the're running it. Which version of the SDL packages have been used ? ie SDL_image wants SDL 1.2.0 before it will compile, the last I can find on cooker is 1.7, I suspect SDL_mixer is the same and there's a patch with it .. oncwe again its a case of new package out, and probally good , but hells own teeth trying to locate the support packages. I've learnt from bad experiences that mixing other distro rpms with mandrake rpms is a recipe for disaster.. So those who say it great , please share the secrets with the rest, or at lest me TIA bg Richard On Wed, 2002-02-06 at 14:18, Guillaume Cottenceau wrote: > Hi, > > Now is the launch date of Frozen Bubble, a game I've been > developing the past months, with graphics from two other > Mandrakians. > > Please go to the website to find a RPM (it will also be on Cooker > mirrors soon) and test this new game: > > http://www.frozen-bubble.org/ > > Thanks! > > -- > Guillaume Cottenceau - http://people.mandrakesoft.com/~gc/ >

The Makefile must be doing a submake via 'make -C dir target' rather than '$(MAKE) -C dir target', which would make sure that the same make gets invoked. You could tweak the Makefile, or make sure that you have a sym link from gmake to make and put it ahead of /usr/bin in your path. -Nick

As usual, you miss the points. MPlayer asm contraints bugs were genuine. There, it's just another compiler bug that could not be exhausted due to previous MPlayer bugs, indeed. I have yet to determine if this is a regression from a previous gcc3 release. Then we have to backport fixes or disable that optimization, again. In both cases, a solution must be found upstream too. Well, some interesting things to do tomorrow then. ;-)

[Cooker] kernel newbie: how can i run mandrake's 2.4.16 kernel?
OK, so I want to run kernel 2.4.16 on my box which is currently running MDK 8.1 (2.4.8-26mdk). The main reason is better ieee 1394 support, but that's not really important for the question at hand. I don't want to try 2.4.17 due to a few postings that make me believe it might be unstable on my particular hardware. So I figured "hey, can't i just get mandrake's pre-built kernel-2.4.16-XXmdk.rpm and install it?". But I can't find that package on any ftp site or mirror (cooker mirrors seem to only have the latest and "greatest"). Does anybody hold on to old mandrake kernel rpms? Or do I have to root around mandrake's CVS for the last good 2.4.16 .config file, throw it into a vanilla kernel source tree, and compile it myself? Apologies if this is in TFM. Mike.

I just noticed that you have to be root to be able to install the Java plugin. Is this really correct? I tried this a few times with a regular user and it shows unsuccessfull each time. /MattB

Actually it's made with another companies chipset called a PrismII which for some reason the support for is included in the wavelan drivers. Ohh and speaking of the PLX cards. [Cooker] Re: Ogle / Gatos ATI drivers.
I agree... ati.2 drivers and the drm kernel should be included for support of radeons. I just got a new laptop with a radeon mobility. 8.2 installed ... and X worked but not too great. I extracted the ati.2 binaries inside /usr ... ran XFdrake again and chose the option for X4.1.0 but it installed 4.2.0 ..which is good... then everything was working flawlessly even GL and FYI: this was on a dell inspiron 8100 that radeon mobility 7500 is the only thing that does not get configured properly. RE: Re: [Cooker] Mandrake 8.2 Beta 1 - ATI Radeon 3D supportbroken (very slow) in XFree86 4.2.0
I mentioned in the crashtesters list that the only bug I had in my computer with beta of 8.2 was the same, my voodoo3 3000 is not runing 3D, but the module tdfx is loaded and the XFConfig-4 file is well configurated (is very similar to that I have in the 8.1 partition, when the graphics fly). Mesa is, on the other hand, runing fine!!! with 8.2 I don't know if it is a 8.2 bug or a problem with the new XFree86 4.2; anyway it should be solved for the final release; this would make of 8.2 a wonderfull distribution, as 7.2 was in it time ^_^ Francisco Alcaraz Murcia (Spain) - Mensaje Original - Remitente: Charles A Edwards <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Fecha: Miércoles, Febrero 7, 2001 3:22 pm Asunto: Re: [Cooker] Mandrake 8.2 Beta 1 - ATI Radeon 3D support broken (very slow) in XFree86 4.2.0 > On 06 Feb 2002 12:00:42 +0100 > [EMAIL PROTECTED] (François Pons) wrote: > > > "Mike Diack" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: > > > > > SUMMARY: > > > ATI Radeon setup doesn't work properly in Mandrake 8.2 beta 1, > to set the card > > > up properly especially for 3D work with XFree86 4.2.0 > > > (I've also heard rumours of similar problems with ATI Rage128 > Pros):> >... > > > Please fix this, since otherwise Mandrake 8.2 is just BRILLIANT! > > > > This is problably a problem with Mesa (which has been fixed > since), remove > > /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.3 (or Mesa package) and check again. > > > > I can verify that it is/was a Mesa problem. > After installing B1 the performace for my Radeon 32MB DDR was <100fsb. > Tuxracer was not playable, chromium would not run. > With the current version Mesa-4.01-4 I am getting 1300fbs > > >Charles > >

i have a smiliar problems too. [Cooker] euro by alan cox
Hi I got this on a search on the euro, from Alan Cox, and in his Diary: January 3rd "Did some more fiddling around to get the euro stuff working. Added a load "euro.inc" and changed the font for the console get euro's on the console then went to war with the xkb data and eventually created a UK with euro keymap. [Cooker] Supermount killed my DVD/CDRW combo drive
Hello. The subject line is misleading. I did for several days assume that my drive had been somehow damaged, but in the preparation of this message, I tried to burn a CD again, and it actually worked. I recently downloaded 8.2beta1 for testing. Following installation, my system froze during the boot process when supermount began accessing my drives. I am using a Toshiba Satellite 3005/S303 which has a modular bay in which I can have either the DVD/CDRW combo drive installed or the Floppy drive. Naturally, I booted with the DVD/CDRW installed. There needs to either be a workaround to prevent supermount from locking up if the floppy drive is not actually present or an errata to indicate that supermount needs to boot with the floppy drive installed. Has anyone else met the same situation? or similar?
