This should be possible in a similar way for all Linux-mail-clients.
Since I have no evolution at hand I can't say how to do the same in that

Ah. In Evolution it's right-click the message and choose Reply to List.
A fine workaround, though in either case (Evo or Kmail) the workflow is
 unacceptable:

Since I guess you can configure keyboard-shortcuts it could change to the
following:

 1) decide to reply.
 2) click reply. === Hit L key allways on mailinglists
 3) write message.
 4) click send.
 5) realize that it didn't go to the list. == not needed
 6) investigate why in Sent. === not needed
 7) start a new reply using To-List workaround. == not needed
 8) copy and paste from Sent into a new mail message. == not needed

Steps 5 through 8 of course very rarely get done, in which case the
answer doesn't get archived, the conversation thread is not public, and
the usefulness of the mailing list is decreased.

Welcome to the real world, there are mailinglists there it would be a real
problem since the mailinglist does not mangle the reply-to. Once you are in
it to hit the L key you will be fine and not depend on others to have
configured all right.

Yes, but try setting up large partitions on a server where you *need*
exact sizes (like when setting up identical servers).

Setting up these partitions:
http://ranger.dnsalias.com/mandrake/screenshots/cooker-diskdrake-stupid-size-dialog.png
http://ranger.dnsalias.com/mandrake/screenshots/cooker-diskdrake-stupid-size-dialog2.png

took about 15 minutes per server, simply because I had to sit on the
arrow keys for about 1 minute per partition.

That is a substantial cost (at consulting rates ...).

This is an interesting report.

In fact, the real ALSA module does not support the nforce2. There is a
patch applied to allow this module to load with nforce2 boards.

However, it has not been tested really well, so it would be really nice
if you could check that all the input and output channels work with the
ALSA module and these two lines in modules.conf.

Thanks.

Hi,
When I tried testing Beta 3's setup again yesterday, mostly because I
wanted a development partition that I could update to Cooker, I noticed an
issue. I didn't install foomatic initially, and because of this, when I got to the
stage to use PrinterDrake, printer setup just failed complaining that it didn't
exist! IIRC, previous versions of PrinterDrake would have installed the
needed packages to continue.

Also, once I finished installing and _updated_to_cooker_, I decided to try
running PrinterDrake again, before installing foomatic manually. Running it
from MCC caused it to continually display the little loading animation (with
the printer fading in and out) without showing any indication of the problem
(or a solution to the problem, for that matter).

I'vd just tried, the problem still exists in drakxtools-9.1-4mdk (Initial Tests
progress
bar hangs about 1/3), but it takes only 5 minutes with 100 CPU on this process. I
think still too long for users without any specific information as explain by Franck

I have collected all of my Windows fonts onto a CD (about 300 fonts, 80-90 MB)
and use the CD to install these fonts on my Mandrake systems.

When the install starts, the Initial Tests progress bar hangs about 1/3 of the
way through for about 20-30 minutes with CPU pinned at 100% on a 2.4GHz P4. I
waited it out, and it eventually finished successfully, but any consumer-grade
user is going to think that it's either hung or gone into a loop.

Whatever's being done with these fonts, I think you need a popup display in
front of the drakfont four-bar progress display which displays the fontname
being processed and a progress bar specific to that font and whatever is being
done to it in that particular phase (Initial Tests, etc.).

At least that will display some activity to indicate to the user that
*something* productive is going on. I understand that you are calling another
package under the covers, so if you can't do a progress bar, then at least an
activity indicator combined with a popup saying that this may take a VERY long
time would be appropriate. Since the activity is so CPU-bound, it should be
possible to come up with a prediction based on the number of fonts, and at least
display the amount of time (based on bogoflops or whatever) that you expect it
to take.

Note that since Cooker uses XFree86 4.3.x, you should use both GATOS
drivers for XFree86 4.3.0 and latest avview from gatos.sf.net (and don't
forget to use the latest drm kernel drivers as well).

Perhaps once XFree86 4.3.0 is out and GATOS gets synced, Cooker could
switch to GATOS drivers again.

Just for a record, MDK9.0 shipped with GATOS drivers for XFree86 4.2.0
and that's why avview 0.10.8 worked.

I have:

   gpm-1.20.1-2mdk
and I have the same problem: The wheel sometimes does not work, but other times
it does at the first login. If it does not work, doing a logout and log back in
my X session, then the wheel works.

My config:
Section Pointer
Protocol MouseManPlusPS/2
Device /dev/psaux
ZAxisMapping 4 5
EndSection

My mouse is a Logitech OEM M-S48
The wheel worked all the time with XFree86 prior 4.2.x and also with one of the
first XFree86 4.2.99.x

No, I don't have the room for kdebase. It's too much wasted space.

You're beating a dead horse. These people have no clue what requires
means and apply it to whatever whim they have the day they make a package.
Let it drop - you can't win against people who won't read your messages.
Is it possible to have a discussion about KDE without people insulting or
ignoring each others ? So far what has been achieved is a totally absurd
situation where cooker community complains endlessly, while Mdk KDE team
prefers to work underground with meaningless changelog to avoid answering any
questions... Where is collaborative work there ?

For KDE team defense, i'd like to remember than complaining is easy, while
fixing is much harder. And sofar, i've not seen much patches submitted to
them, far less patches rejected. My libqt3 spec patch for instance has been
accepted without discussion. So complaining people, please provide patches.
And if they ever get refused, there is still place in PLF for alternative KDE
packages.

The problem is not solved completely yet now. Playing a sound works one time, if

I chose to install the gnome desktop environment, KDE, configuration and
development packages - everything seems to go fine, untill the installer asks
for cd2. I don't have this cd, so I click cancel. I do the same for cd3.
The installer doesn't complain about this and carries on with the installation.
I get no further errors or warnings; it completes just fine.
After rebooting, I log in with the user account I created, choose gnome,
complete the first-time wizzard, now gnome starts loading and keeps doing so
forever; the splash screen remains visible and nautilus won't start. Logging out
from gnome doesn't work, so I had to exit X with CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE.
KDE runs fine, just like the rest of what I tried.
Configuring my network-connection (just one NIC, LAN) worked fine.
Apart from this rather critical error, 9.1 looks very nice to me.

I attempted to install the latest mandrake 9.1 beta (RC1) on a system with an
ASUS A7M266-D motherboard (identity string: 04/11/2002 AMD760MP-A7M266-D).

The board was configured with a single AMD athlon MP1900+ processor IN SLOT 1
rather that 0--didn't even notice the difference when I installed it!

Pressing enter at the first prompt after booting from disk1 of the ISO image
gave a blank screen.

After a few moments I rebooted, and this time chose to press F1. This time I
entered text at the boot prompt and was presented with a screenful of:
APIC error on CPU0:04(04)

hence my assumption that putting the chip into socket 0 rather than 1 should
fix the problem (and hopefully not break anything else)..!

Hope this is enough detail...

I'm using 9.1 RC1 with KDE desktop.
I have a Microsoft Natural keyboard.

I tried to configure keys such as WIN-1, WIN-2, WIN-Left, WIN-Right etc., to
move between different virtual desktops, but to no avail. The problem is, it
thinks that WIN key is F13, and not a modifier. The strange thing is that in
Kcontrol (Accessibility|Keyboard Shortcuts|Modifier Keys), there is a list of
modifiers, and it lists Shift, Crtl, Alt, *Win*. However, it says, that there is
no key tied to the Win modifier, and I see no way to change that.

There is nothing in the Mandrake Control Center that I see could affect this either.

fine (except that it doesn't work in 100mbit mode in which it should). I can
ping servers on the internet by using IP addresses but I can't ping if I use
names like www.nasa.gov. It looks like the settings for DMS servers are not
fetched when DHCP is getting the info for network.

Mdk9.1rc1: gnome (changed only theme to mdk galaxy and set 'focus follows
mouse'), started MCC, went to system, then wanted to start a console, got a
console without any window at the left top of the screen (on all virtual
desktops), but no way to make this active and input commands.
To make the console go away, I had to select something/anything on the left in
the mcc (system or any other), confirm to discard any changes and it went away.

Repeated gnome login and still had this problem.

I've got ADSL connexion an an ethernet card (eth0)

When using Drakefirewall, shorewall configuration file /etc/shorewall/interfaces is
net eth0detect
so I cannot surf on Internet (I'm using ppp0).

The workaround is to change this line to
net ppp0detect
and it works but not trivial for a newbie

Don't Drakefirewall should ask which interface is use for internet access to enable a
right
configuration ?

Have you tried either of the next two fixes?

Change from dynamic IP to static IP?

or

Uninstall dhcp client and server and install dhcpcd and have dynamic IP?

The both work, but the second it the best.

Thanks for the reply, thats why I wanted to check. I've just done another
check and the nvnet and nvaudio will compile when I run with a cooker
system (done today) but with 9.0 kernel (19-16) and same sources. With
 21-8 to 21- 10 kernel/sources it dies. I can't get the specific info at
this time as the machine is remote to me until Monday and rebooting into
.21 will make it unavailable to me.

My concern for Mandrake is that a cooker (9.1?) system will not run on
 nforce2 (at least MSI K7N2) as it currently stands. I've done a 9.0 -
cooker upgrade on this machine knowing the concequences so I had a working
nvnet/nvaudio on .19-16 around for failsafe. (audio not actually working,
but not my real concern...no net is fatal, no audio is annoying)

I am running 2.4.21pre4-1mdk on an nForce2-based 9.0 system, which is close
enough to Cooker for modelling purposes. I told it to use an i810 audio
driver, solved that. All of the nVidia kernel (build 4191, I also tried 3123)
SRPMs failed to build out of the box, but I made a softlink from
/lib/modules/2.4.21pre4-1mdk/build to /usr/src/linux-2.4.21pre4-1mdk and they
(LAN and accelerated video) then became (and still are) happy.

I've asked NVidia about OSing the drivers and got no reply.

If sombody (wish I had the time) could rewrite the LAN driver as OSS, I could
live with that: it would yield a 100% operational system from which you could
then download the (proprietary, sigh) accelerated video drivers for
performance bliss (as far as that goes with cheap all-in-one mobos) if you
needed it. Very few of my servers actually *require* a fast 3D graphics
display...

I really could use a reasonable S3 video driver too, since that would make a
lot of thin-client recycling projects much simpler.

Cheers; Leon

[Cooker] Installation problems

2003-02-22 Thread marcos colome
I have tried to install Mandrake Linux 9.1 beta 3 in three differents types of computers with differents Via chipsets, but I am getting more than 20 errors
after the installation of the first disk, and specially when the second cd start
to install the office programs, I have 'yes' to continue with the installation, I did not
have that kind of problem with beta 1, and 2. The other problem that I have is
that it look that it has configured the video card, but when it reboot again the
computer freeze and then I am forced to reset the computer and then I am able
to login, and then it does not want to configure the Lan card, in my main computer
I have an on board Brodcam 10/100 it detected as eth0 but then I am unable to
go in the internet, I installed a second Realtek Lan Card but it does not detect this
one that I know that the drivers are more popular than Broadcam. After all I would
like to tell that it is the most beatiful and colorfull distro that Mandrake has designed
it can be used by itself for my application, there is not need to have MS Windows
dual boot, with all the defects it looks very nice. I had also problem with the
installation of the printer, at the beginning I get a red circle and it won boot, I did
reinstalled again without printer, but when I try to detect the printer,it freeze the
computer. Have you tried to resolve these bugs for the final version or Beta 4?
The times when I have been able to go in the internet the connection is fast and
it works faster than prior versions. I would like to know why the second disk is
making so many errors when it is installing the open office packages. Another
problem is that sometimes it does not want to recognize the third Cd, it is asking
for an international disk, I had to insert the cd several times in the cd rom and
then it start to install the packages. I think it is important to have more drivers
for the Viewsonic monitors since they are becoming very populars, I could not
find a drivers for my ( g90ft) but Redhat has drivers on RH 8.0 for a lot of View
sonic monitors and NEC you should take that into consideration, and the
new land cards that are coming out in the market specially Broadcam that is
pre-installed in the Asus and Supermicro motherboardsDo you Yahoo!?

I had the same problems from the first beta.
At the moment you have 2 solution:

a) Install your card as a vesa generic

b) use the nvidia original driver (nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx)

I finally reach to compile both for rc1; if you like I could send them to you.

The XFree driver for gforce 4 is, at the moment, useles

I can't say when exactly this problem came up since the current version is the first
that would work for me since about the new year. The previous version worked, but the
mouse didn't work at all.
If it helps, I use X with gpm (has always worked before). The pointer in question is
a Logitech Trackman Wheel and it works with the standard X mouse driver and the
ImPS2 protocol for both gpm and X.

It is true!; I have updated to kdebase 3.1.50 and in my Spanish installation
the problem still appears; removable media icon is useless.

[Cooker] [Bug 2085] [Installation] [9.1 RC1] bootloader fails to install on MBR

2003-02-22 Thread janso

Created an attachment (id=212)
 -- (https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/attachment.cgi?id=212action=view)
/root/drakx/ddebug.log

I didn't expect the computer to boot, when the bootloader _apparently_ failed
to be copied to MBR. But here is the requested file.

and AIC-7880U SCSI storage controllers. There is also an Adaptec ARO-1130xA
RAIDPort card on the system, which I don't think has any Linux drivers (?).

After partitioning (see bug 2076 for description), I try to install the
bootloader on MBR and get:

An error occured
Undefined subroutine main::called.

Clicking OK; returning to the same error message. End of first attempt to
install RC1.

The partitioning layout is:

sda1: 125 MB ext3 /boot
sda5: 784 MB Linux swap
sda6: 7.5 GB Linux LVM -- lvm0
sdb1: 8.4 GB Linux LVM -- lvm0
sdc1: 8.4 GB Linux LVM -- lvm0

lvm0/1: 24 GB XFS /

I installed RH 8.0 on this box a few days ago; the MBR was probably occupied
with a GRUB bootloader when tonight's MDK 9.1RC1 install was attempted.

Maybe you could try sending exact model and problem description to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] . He is creating a list of HP/Compaq laptops which have broken
ACPI bioses. Then there's a chance that future bios upgrades will solve your
problem. See

PCI: PCI BIOS revision 2.10 entry at 0xfd7ae, last bus=1
PCI: Using configuration type 1

After changing acpi=off, boot continues as normal.

Let's see, what else about the platform? It has a Phoenix BIOS...

[Cooker] [Bug 2100] [drakxtools] oss is default for nforce2 audio (and not alsa)

https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2100

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-02-22 14:50 ---
The major thing to check is the SP/DIF output.. Does it work via the patched ALSA
drivers. If it does then adding patched ALSA drivers to mdk9.1 would be a major step
forward for Nforce2 users.

oss is the default driver for the nforce2 audio; this does not allow
multi-channel sound. snd-intel8x0 is in an fact available option in draksound.
Once this is set, and the volume has been unmuted and set to a reasonable
level, multi-channel sound is possible.
Note: I have not put any effort into testing the OSS sound compatibility; and
the options suggested on the ALSA site for this card are not appropriate for
Mandrake 9.1. This is the relevant lines from /etc/modules.conf:
alias snd-slot-0 snd-intel8x0
above snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm-oss

Damon
