Is there anyway to install using a SATA drive? The problem is I need to install a driver. When I'm installing a page comes up and ask me to select a driver for hard/scsi. The first one on the list is a 3ware driver there are more drivers after that. I tried alot of them and keep getting an error message. I am using the new Western Digital SATA hard drive. Does someone know what to do? How about telling what SATA Controller you have? Or if you don't know, The exact model of the Motherboard will do... And if you don't know that either, What system do you have? Manufacturer? Model? Without any more info, it's impossible to help Regards Thomas Hi, I am using a D875PBZ motherboard. Those using high resolution displays like 1600x1200 or above see 12px as Only if their system is misconfigured. Absolutely not! If you use 1600x1200 on a monitor below 17 in size, you're misusing it. Absolutely not! Maybe you'd like to explain the preponderance of notebook displays of about 15 that are optimized for 1280x1024 (SXGA), 1400x1050 (SXGA+), or even 1600x1200 (UXGA)? With pleasure. A 15 laptop display is equivalent to a 17 CRT, and LCDs are generally better at being viewable at high resolution anyway, so 1280x1024 or 1400x1050 are perfectly acceptable on them. Personally, I think 1600x1200 is still too high for a 15 LCD. I wouldn't buy a laptop which had such a screen. For a monitor 19 in size or bigger, 12pt fonts at 1600x1200 should look pretty much the same size as 12pt fonts at 1280x1024 on a 17 monitor, for instance. Point sizes are Actually not. 1600x1200 is a standard 4/3 aspect ratio, while 1280x1024 is a bastard 5/4 ratio, and everything is malproportioned as a result of the latter. See http://members.ij.net/mrmazda/auth/aspect.html Yes, I know this. It was simply an example resolution in the sensible range for monitor size / resolution tradeoff. Then there's the DPI issue. Pt sizes depend on DPI as well as monitor size and resolution, while px sizes only depend on monitor size and resolution. Pt is not an appropriate way to size display fonts: http://www.w3.org/TR/WAI-WEBCONTENT/#tech-relative-units http://bobby.watchfire.com/bobby/html/en/gls/g104.html relative, not absolute, and therefore if you configure X correctly and use a reasonable resolution for your display size, a 12pt font will be perfectly fine. 12pt should be fine for about anyone in any case. However, the web page at issue was not using pt, but rather px, which is entirely different. Visit http://members.ij.net/mrmazda/auth/allreschooser.html to understand the impact of 12px, regardless of resolution. Ah, I thought webpages set sizes in pt. My bad, sorry. -- adamw

Actually, I know that a class A network is not a good idea, and I have been too lazy to reconfigure my router that was working like this out-of-the-box :) (a Speetouch 510v4) However, sometimes you don't have the cjhoice : at my university we use a class B network and I observed the same problem with a laptop using DHCP to connect on the LAN (strange you cannot reproduce it with 255.255.0.0). I guess the script has to consider this issue : lazy/unskilled people who have a router that gives them a class A IP (which is not uncommon on the market now), and also people who do not control their network. Thanks for looking at it and keep the good work. -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: NEW creation_date: description: I have the LAN at 10.0.0.0/8. tcpdump shows that the lisa tries to do an ARP request for probably all addresses in the network and literally bombards the net with packets. I don't know what this might cause on a large network. To add to this it continues these probes even after the LAN interface goes down. This can also result in a costly problem. The following happened to me: - I configured my notebook for GPRS over bluetooth - I removed the LAN card from my notebook so it does not interfere with the experiments - I brought a PPP connection up - The defaultroute was set to ppp0 - The lisa continued to send packets - They all travelled to the phone, generating paid traffic :-( The distribution is Mandrake 9.2 Beta 2 Proposed resolution: don't enable the server by default and document this problem somewhere

http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5244 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-10-09 23:24 --- IMHO, this (class A network for no specific reason) is bad practise ... Fully agree. Unfortunately many do this - my GPRS provider (no way to change this), LAN side of my ADSL modem/router (maybe hackable but when I tried, other things acted weird - Thomson Speedtouch 510i)... Note: I did NOT have both active at the same time when I tried :-) what interface name is your GPRS? ppp0. It's a plain old pppd, just running over bluetooth instead of the serial line. I will have a new initscript for you before the weekend, I would like you to test it OK, many thanks. (and if you have a LAN at home, see what the advantages are). I have only a small LAN connecting a desktop (Debian unstable), a laptop (with the Mandrake I wanted to give a try) and an ADSL router. I can install the lisa also for the debian and see what it does there. Nothing else (ie WAN) would be affected, since that crosses the subnet boundary At least the case of an ADSL in the bridged mode (i.e. where the linux box itself does the PPPoE and routing) should be investigated. If the lisa sees it as a local ethernet interface, the problem can probably bite here too. The following problems were observed. 1. During installation, it found my two partitions but could not identify the legacy mount points (i.e. / and /home) so I had to enter them manually. 2. The install never displayed the upgrade option as it has in the past it simply went into a normal install mode where packages have to be selected. 3. During the install it displayed searching for packages but afterwards it displayed the normal Mandrake install screen with the normal default boxes selected (it didn't detect installed packages because I had every package under every category except Server installed under Mandrake 9.1). 4. After the installation completed and the computer rebooted I was taken to the logon screen which I logged into and chose KDE but KDE never started. Instead I received the following error The following installation problem was detected while trying to start KDE: No write access to /home/brian/.ICEauthority. KDE is unable to start. I was then taken back to the logon screen where I logged in and chose Gnome but Gnome also would not start. Instead I received the following error The files that contain your preference settings are in use. You might be logged in to a session from another computer, and the other logon session is using your preference settings. http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5289 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-11-09 01:40 --- The problem is that some tools see list (except xchat) http://www2.iro.umontreal.ca/~pinard/po/registry.cgi?team=he use visual ordering for display at console. for example make. The situation is now that I get reversed hebrew in terminals when i use urpmi. It's been agreed that for console hebrew will use visual layout and not logical like used in kde/gnome. I can reverse the output strings of urpmi (which is the only tools which outputs to console no?) before final, hopefully you will get this in monday/tuesday. i see no better option. BTW: are there strings which are showed on a Window and sometimes in a console (the same string is used for X and console output)? if they are, your work arround will be the best, even if i dont like it. Please also remove the usage of acon when one installs hebrew, since it's untested (and programs which support bidi will support it on their own, vim emacs, pine).
