Re: [Cooker] RC2, first impression (video card problems)

2003-03-05 Thread Trevor Rhodes
If these useless drivers were not included, the user would have to use
VESA. That is the whole point of not including them until they work.
After that, it would be up to the user whether to install the nvidia
  binary drivers or not.

moment please. Does this problem also exist on geforce2 ? If not it
wouldn't be a good idea to exclude this driver.

I have a Geforce2 and I don't have the drivers here either. Wish I did, can't
wait to get back to UT.

[Cooker] index.html still not right

Cooker update 20:10:18 - 3/3/03

I know this has been asked previously, but as I cannot find a suitable fix for
this problem I will ask again.

How can I get the right page ie. file:/usr/share/mdk/indexhtml
to show up upon opening Konqueror? NOT by clicking on the home icon. NOT by
putting it in as my homepage, but upon opening of the program.

Re: Religious software (wasRe: [Cooker] what's the mess with the club ?)

2003-03-02 Thread Trevor Rhodes
The Sword site is as chilling as a knock on the door.
The online version is a bit awkward and I did not find adjustments for
 fuzziness.
One basis for inclusion/exclusion is a matter of quality. I gave the
 Diatheke (online) version a spin.
After a bit of fiddling, the search as deceivers led to
2Cor 6:8: By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as
 deceivers, and yet true;
  (KJV)
Another search on the phrase little sister looking for the famous text
from the Songs came up dry but the juicier part
Verses containing she hath no breasts-- Song 8:8 -- 1 matches total (KJV)
 works fine.
Also the phrase search for dead lion fails but the multiple word search
 works.
Eccl 9:4: For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a
living dog is better than a dead lion.
  (KJV)
On quality, I rate Sword a B maybe even a B+ and worthy of inclusion.
I am confident it will bring converts to Linux and Open Source.
DId you find this review interesting?
 Did you find it useful?

Leaving all 'personal' opinions aside, if it's free/open source software, it
works, it's legal, and it's not installed by default, there shouldn't be a
problem.

Want a laugh? Read back through this thread and apply the arguments to
something like music software and you'll see how inane some of the comments
are. It might open some eyes as well.

You'd be correct there. Music is not something that is considered part of a
specialist group. If these arguments are applied to a specialist group,
they all seem very valid.. oh wait, that's what we've been doing..

I ask again. The cooker mailing list is not a good place to have this kind
of political debate. The club has forums for this type of thing, so could
you continue this discussion there instead please.

This was the first paragraph which you so conveniently left out so you could
make a point. A point I must add that didn't work.

The quote you did use doesn't even come under the heading of being political.
If you have a really good look I didn't even use the word 'religion' in any
of it's forms. Nor did I actually use the name of the program. My sole
intent was to make a point about how any software should be chosen and that
definitely does keep me on topic for this list, especially when you look at
the intent of the original posting when that program was mentioned.

Please be a little more judicious in your usage of my postings in future. I
would also like to take this opportunity to apologise to list members for any
inconvenience this posting may cause as that also is not my intent. You wil
hear no more from me on this topic, as I expect not to hear from you either.

Re: [Cooker] missing window decorations in kde!

2003-02-27 Thread Trevor Rhodes

by default it seems like the window decorations in kde are all screwed
 up?!?!
you have to change decoration, then logout and login again before it
 work...

 $ rpm -q galaxy-kde-kwin

I think Laurent still needs to add a :
 Require: galaxy-kde-kwin

 to kdebase

I submitted a bug earlier and had no way of checking (so I thought at the
time) if it had already been submitted. I lost all window borders, couldn't
minimize, maximise, resize, close or enter text. Once I figured out how to
check for bug submissions I found this and thought it may have something to
do with my problem. It did. I must have had galaxy selected, even thought I
didn't do it myself. When it went missing KDE did not select another
automagically and left me with an unuseable computer. So when I selected
another one, everything came back. Now to check out a couple other things
I'm worried about. :^)

IIRC I've read somewhere in the kde cvs reports that this is now a feature
of kmail. There must be an option somewhere to restore the old trash
 behaviour.

If this is true, I'd appreciate someone telling me where it is. I haven't

[Cooker] Segmentation Fault

2003-02-23 Thread Trevor Rhodes
This is a strange problem that is hard to describe under any particular
heading.

I run Setiathome and have never had a problem with errors till I updated the
beta two days ago when the errors started (immediately).

./setistack: line 99: 2440 Segmentation fault ./setiathome
-stop_after_process -verbose

I just thought something was corrupted, so deleted the whole seti directory,
downloaded fresh copies and run it again. It immediately errored in the same
fashion and has continued to do so through another two reinstalls of seti and
another update to the beta.

Does anyone else run seti and encountered any errors?
