Hi, Just re-introducing myself and giving an update on co-working in

My name is Jen Mincar. I own an IT Project Management company in
Burlington, VT and have been successfully operating as an independent
consultant in VT for the past ten years. Now I’m starting an
additional project, a coworking space, which I’ve been calling the
BHive (but will be changing the name because I didn't realize there
were already various coworking 'Hives' and 'BeaHives' out there).

Upon advice from the coworking wiki and this google group,
I’ve been actively building up a coworking community here in VT for
the past 3 months. I’ve created a linked in group that consists of
almost 80 people interested in coworking in the Burlington area:

The BHive - Coworking in Burlington, VT
 http://www.linkedin.com/e/vgh/1878468/

We’re having our first informal coworking event, a jelly, next week
Friday at FoundLine, Inc. This event was so popular that all of the
spaces were filled within 12 hours of advertising it. I am so stoked.

I’ve started looking at real estate/office space in the Burlington
 area, specifically:

 Maltex Building
 Pine St.
 All over Burlington proper/Church St.
 Main St.

If there is anyone else out there in the btv, VT area looking to
cowork and wants to join me in this quest, please let me know.

Thanks for everyone's help and advice to date. As someone who reads
this group's updates daily, it's been an invaluable resource to use to
get VT's space started. And I know I will continue to use it, and
 hopefully contribute, in the future.

[Coworking] Re: Hi

2009-07-24 Thread WHERE MMM
Another great alternative is to collaborate with your local in-home day car
provider/ or network of providers.
While on site is great (speaking as a parent) it is difficult to really
focus at times when you have your mind on your kids... but the ability to
drop in, get updates and such provides peace of mind; much needed for the
freelancer parent that is on the go as it is. This way you reduce your
liability as well with trained day care providers as well as stimulating
your local neighborhood economy... try bartering too...host child care
trainings at your coworking site.

2009-07-24 Thread Darrin Wasniewski

Danielle,
Thanks for asking, I wasn't sure how much to include in my first post/
introduction. I am the executive director of Main Street Orrville, a
group focused on downtown revitalization. I came across a mention of
Oklahoma City CoCo in a blog post by Becky McCray of the Small Biz
Survival blog. I forwarded the post to a few people whom I thought may
find the concept interesting and from there the idea was born to get
coworking started here in Orrville.

We approached a bank that has unused space on the second floor of its
building downtown and they loved the concept. So now we are working on
a business plan for them to review and with any luck- sign off on. We
plan to start our coworking as a program under our EntreprenOrrville
Center for Business Innovation.

We're just in the very beginning stages of development, but are
looking forward to a fun journey.

Hi Brandy,

Great idea. You might consider partnering with an existing day care

good coworking space.

get the donuts. I hope someone showsif not, I'll have lots of donuts
to eat (h, not a bad thing). :-)

Here is the emailI lightened the tone, hmmm, then again that is my
tone. ;-) Since I am a teacher now...school had to play a role.

For those who may not know, we start school in Tracy on August 12th!
Yikes...

Subject: First TVO Community Event July 31

OK, hopefully this will be the first of many. Thanks to all of you for
your support, suggestions, comments and help!

The first free community event for the TracyVirtualOffice will be
something simple: To celebrate (or mourn) the very quickly approaching
school year and the end of summer as we know it.

I am calling it the:

School is Almost Here DonutUP Coffee

Yup, on Friday, July 31, 2009 from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM, FREE donuts and
coffee for all who come (and if more than one person shows upgreat
conversation!) Bring your laptop so you can work or surf while you eat
and drink.

Visit the TracyVirtualOffice Math Island classroom! The namer of that

room is on this list, so I thank her and wish her well at Williams this
year! :-)

Invite your friends!!! I will provide a never ending 2.5 hour supply of

sugar and fat! Just the thing you need to celebrate (or mourn) the
coming school year! Note: I will have Twizzlers here too, and bagels,
for those who prefer not to fly out of here. ;-)

Thanks again for all your support! Hope you are having a great summer.

(Commuter? Call in sick or work from here!)

Thanks, Mike

PS: 95 W. 11th Street, Suite 203. Directly above from Sergio's, use the

WEST entrance on Adam Street for easy access. We are upstairs.

PSS: Commuters: I now take 3 minutes from home to here...compared to
over 2.5 hours one way when I was working!

PSSS: For those in Israel, Chicago, or France, or.Manteca: Video
Skype tracyvirtualoffice1 for a few minutes to say Hi and grab a
virtual donut!

I think a dedicated space and an agreement between all coworkers that
kids are going to be part of the mix would be good. I totally agree
about the cost fo childcare - that is partly why I have my lil guy at
home with me. but lately its getting a bit crazy. Partly because our
neighbors with their 2 fabulous kids about his age just moved.

I think if you could set something up with a kids room, multiple kids,
and maybe rotate parents to supervise, you could do pretty well.

I am in Orange County California BTW

 Hello, fellow coworkers...

There have been a few posts looking for inspiration and feasibility in
starting a space in small towns (I asked myself several months back).
So I thought I'd just share our success so far.

BEAHIVE opened not quite 3 months ago with an auspicious beginning in
Beacon, NY -- a small town shy of 15,000 an hour north of NYC on the
 Hudson River.

We've grown to 19 Founding Members with a few more starting soon.
We're making monthly expenses. We had 90 or so at our launch party,
including the mayor and his wife.

And we've generated quite a bit of buzz in the media: 3 profiles of
us this week alone (all listed on our site at http://
beahivebeacon.com). (It helps that I do PR/communications for a living.)

Now, Beacon is not like most towns of its size. It's on the NYC
commuter train line and, perhaps most importantly, a major
contemporary art museum opened here 5 years ago (Dia:Beacon). Along
with it has come many NYC and other big city emigres. (Some folks
jokingly call it NoBro: North Brooklyn.)

As many have said tirelessly, it all starts with building the
community and excitement first (another area my main profession comes
 in handy).

I'm happy to share any specifics offline.
