The Political 'Fahrenheit' Sets Record at Box Office
By SHARON WAXMAN
Published: June 28, 2004
Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11," spurned by Disney, was released on 868 screens nationwide, including at Lincoln Plaza in Manhattan.
LOS ANGELES, June 27 Michael Moore's anti-Bush "Fahrenheit 9/11" became the highest-grossing feature-length documentary of all time on its first weekend in release, taking in $21.8 million as it packed theaters across the country this weekend. The movie, mocking President Bush and criticizing his decision to go to war in Iraq, was No. 1 at the box office, beating out the popular comedies "White Chicks" and "DodgeBall," which were playing on almost triple the number of screens. Theater owners in large cities and smaller towns reported sellout crowds over the weekend, with numerous theaters declaring house records. The phenomenal opening represented a decisive victory for Mr. Moore and for the Miramax movie executives Harvey and Bob Weinstein, who released the film independently after it was rejected by Miramax's corporate parent, the Walt Disney Company, as too political."The biggest news to me this morning is this is a red-state movie," he said, referring to the state whose residents voted for George W. Bush in the 2000 election. "Republican states are embracing the movie, and it's sold out in Republican strongholds all over the country."

Bush Can Hold U.S. Citizens Without Trial
Monday June 28, 2004 By ANNE GEARAN Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court ruled narrowly Monday that Congress gave President Bush the power to hold an American citizen without charges or trial, but said the detainee can challenge his treatment in court. The 6-3 ruling sided with the administration on an important legal point raised in the war on terrorism. At the same time, it left unanswered other hard questions raised by the case of Yaser Esam Hamdi, who has been detained more than two years and who was only recently allowed to see a lawyer. The administration had fought any suggestion that Hamdi or another U.S.-born terrorism suspect could go to court, saying that such a legal fight posed a threat to the president's power to wage war as he sees fit.

The 9/11 Commission's report of Mohamed
Atta's final days does not match what's already on the record.
at http://www.madcowprod.com/June
26--Exactly 1000 days after hijacked airliners crashed into the World Trade
Center the American people finally heard public testimony, during the final
hearings of the 9/11 Commission last week in Washington, D.C., about the plot
that took nearly 3000 lives. It wasn't worth the wait. "9/11:
the Plot" was the subject of a day-long hearing on what were supposed to be the
specifics of the conspiracy. But the distortions, inaccuracies, omissions, and
evasions offered during the session suggests that the real 9/11 plot
involves efforts by the FBI to keep the American people in the dark, for
whatever reason, about the facts of the attack. Still, the trickle of
new evidence released cleared up several questions and 'conspiracy
theories' which some found compelling: the notion that there weren't any Arab
hijackers on the planes (the dread Remote Controllers); and the suspicion that a
NORAD stand-down had allowed the attack to succeed. But staff and FBI
testimony also created a major new mystery: Why doesn't the account given by FBI
and staff investigators about the final days of the terrorist conspiracy match
what's already on the public record? The discrepancies, to no
one's surprise, call into question the credibility of the FBI's basic chronology
of the terrorist conspiracy. Bottom line: there's hard physical evidence
to prove that something is very wrong with the only official explanation the
American people are ever likely to get.FULL STORY AT:The

The answer is
that a president favorable to Washington would be one who did not implement a
nationalist Venezuela policy, which is to say doing what it deems right and
honorable with its oil production and sales. In other words, a pro-US president
would not be making the deals that President Chavez has done, namely swapping
oil for commodities and supporting OPEC’s move to the Euro as these actions
impinge on the exclusivity of the Petrodollar as intermediary currency in oil
transactions. Yes, Venezuela is supporting an OPEC move to switch from the US
dollar to the Euro, and that in the foreseeable future [viii]. This makes
President Chavez anathema in the eyes of the US. But that is not all. He is
guilty of even a worse “crime” in the eyes of the US: Venezuela accepts
oil-for-service swaps with poor countries, such as Cuba, that don’t have
sufficient US dollar reserves with which to buy the oil it desperately needs,
effectively avoiding the use of the Petrodollar [ix].

http://www.vheadline.com/readnews.asp?id=21779

Why should the United States care who
is the President of Venezuela?
VHeadline.com commentarist Karl B.
Koth writes: The recent verbal threats from the imperialist
titan made by US sub-secretary of State Robert Noriega and reiterated by Otto
Reich [i] recently raise the question of not what the USA is trying to
accomplish with its hostility towards Venezuela, but the more important question
why.
We know, for example, that the US wishes to get rid of
constitutionally-elected President Hugo Chavez Frias, but what precisely is
behind this goal is less clear.
Let us first eliminate some of the
more obvious perceived reasons behind the US attitude:

  1) We know that the claim that Venezuela is undemocratic
does not hold water. Venezuela just happens to be one of the models in the
Americas for an unsurpassed adherence to democratic constitutional principles
and practices. Besides, the US, at least considering their incumbent rascal’s
own election four years ago, is no shining example of democracy in action.

  2) We know also that charges that President Chavez is “a
communist” are as ridiculous as calling George W. Bush an enlightened ruler.

  3) We know that the reasons have nothing to do with the
allegations that President Chavez is a dictator, since first, the charge is
idiotic, and second, the US has never had a problem cozying up to the vilest
  of tyrants.
  4) We also know that the hostility has little to do with
controlling the supply of oil to the US, because Venezuela has never
considered cutting off that supply. It would not be in its own interest to do
so!! One might argue here that the US wants to ensure the supply of oil
because of the latent threat from a very successful Chinese economy. However,
even were it to control Venezuelan oil production, the pressures on the oil
patch are going to increase so drastically in the near future, that
controlling one country’s output would not help either. Still, that is not a
good argument since maintaining good relations with Venezuela would be the far
cheaper and easier way of ensuring that supply.
So, what then is the
reason? What is behind the constant manipulation, the virulent
hostility, the verbal abuse, and the probable (I admit, not yet proven)
support to Colombian paramilitaries who recently invaded the country? I believe
that the answer, albeit complicated, is to be found in the interesting thesis
constructed by a Californian lawyer by the name of William Clarke, and which,
obviously, has not been given wide coverage in the news media [ii]. I say
interesting, because this plausible and well-constructed analysis allows us
inter alia to understand primarily the real reasons behind the

The Can-Spy Act?

Oh, oh. In case you haven't noticed, there's a very familiar pattern to
current legislative activity regarding anti-spyware laws. It's very
reminiscent of where Congress was last year at this time on anti-spam
legislation, and that ultimately led to the disastrous Can Spam Act. Are we
soon to see the enactment of the Yes, You Can Spy Act as well?

The parallels with the situation that created the Can Spam Act are downright
scary. Just as there was an all too justifiable hue-and-cry last year about
spam, the politicians are now keenly feeling the need to do something about
the spyware plague. The states are passing strong laws that might actually
be effective, a trend that marketing and technology lobbyists are telling
Congress is a bad, bad thing that requires pre-emption by federal law. And
while everyone agrees that the things the worst offenders are doing are
already highly illegal, for some reason our national lawmakers think the
answer is to concentrate enforcement powers in an already overwhelmed
Federal Trade Commission.

New spyware laws aren't needed for the homepage hijackers, keystroke
loggers, etc. that already clearly constitute violations of the Computer
Fraud and Abuse Act and many others laws. The one category of offenders that
legislators could address is the We're-Adware-Not-Spyware vendors like Gator
(now calling itself Claria) and WhenU. As we know, these companies hide the
true nature of their software deep in their sneakwrap licenses, allowing
them to claim they have consent from users who, of course, have no idea
they are agreeing to have a torrent of pop-up ads take over their
computer. This supposed consent makes it hard for the many victims who try
to sue them, not to mention law enforcement agencies, to hold these
companies responsible for the very considerable damage they are doing to the
Internet.

Unquestionably, devising a fair law that can fight sneakwrap-sanctioned
spyware is no easy task, but what appears at the very least to be a valiant
attempt is the recently-enacted Utah spyware law. The best proof of that is
WhenU's lawsuit seeking to overturn the law because it would keep them from
doing business in the state. (Sadly, last week WhenU was granted a temporary
injunction delaying enforcement of the Utah law.) And, just as California's
tough anti-spam law suddenly put Can Spam on a fast track to enactment last
year, Utah's anti-spyware seems to have galvanized Congress into action.

H.R. 2929, currently called the Spy Act, is moving through the House so fast
it's hard to keep track of what it says. The version now headed to the House
floor (after being approved by the same House committee that approved what
became Can Spam) does at least have a requirement that the user be notified
in plain English what the spyware/adware does. Unfortunately, it also very
pointedly pre-empts the much stronger Utah law. Even worse is the fact that
it leaves enforcement solely to the FTC, even though FTC officials have made
it clear they have neither the will nor the means to go after any but the
most criminal offenders.

It's a good bet that, once the lobbyists are finished with it, the Spy Act
will read more like the Sneakwrap-Sanctioned Spyware Protection Act.
Software industry lobbyists are already attacking the law's rather mild
notice-and-consent requirement as being too burdensome. In fact,
organizations that have long championed the sneakwrap licensing approach now
claim they are trying to save users from having to read too many notices.
For example, the Business Software Alliance issued a statement saying the
notices the bill mandates won't allow consumers to distinguish between
legitimate vendors and the bad actors. We are concerned

FBI Warns Of Booby-Trapped Garbage On Area Waters
June 28, 2004
By Tracy Vedder

SEATTLE - Garbage floating around our harbors and marinas might be more than
just trash. The FBI warns it could be explosive.

The feds issued a new terror warning for all marinas and public waterways to
be on alert for floating debris that could be a deadly trap.

Thousands of people live and work and play on the water around Puget Sound,
so this FBI warning really hits home. It means if you see garbage floating
on the water, it's best leave it alone.

There's always things in the water that are dangerous, says Edmonds boat
owner Ian Poll. But the dangerous things he's talking about are deadheads,
logs, or garbage.

And boaters are always on the lookout for them. You're always keeping your
eyes peeled not to hit stuff and hurt the boat, foul the prop, adds Poll.

But now there's a new twist. An FBI alert went to police departments across
the country advising that innocent-looking garbage could be dangerous. It
could be booby-trapped and rigged with explosives, so if a boat impacts it
or someone picks it up, it explodes.

Well I think it would be good to let boaters know, said Nadeane Rutledge,
who has boated all her life. When she sees garbage, she usually picks it up.

We're always looking at things in the water, and we would notice something
that doesn't belong, she said.

However, most boaters don't seem to know about the alert. The FBI tells KOMO
4 News its bulletin is law enforcement sensitive, meaning the Bureau doesn't
talk about it. And the local police we spoke with didn't seem to have passed
the information along to boaters.

That's worrisome to some boaters. I would expect if there is some kind of
concern to make it public and let people make their own decisions about what
they want to do, says Seattle boater Todd Flood. It seems like it's
nothing that should be kept secret.

But explosives in the water seems a stretch to some.

I just don't see a guy on a yacht making much of a target for al-Qaida or
any of these terrorist organizations, says Poll.

There is no specific threat connected to this warning. Rather it's a
heads-up to stay alert. But boaters say they'd like to know, because it's
the unofficial law of the sea to recover items that are adrift.

There's all sorts of things out there, adds Rutledge, so it's something
to be aware of and I'm glad to know this.

The U.S. Coast Guard adds that if you do see anything suspicious on the
water, you can report it to their National Response Center at
1-800-424-8802. Or, if you're on the water, you can use the universal
hailing and distress frequency on the radio, Channel 16, to notify the Coast
Guard.

Secret Agent Man
Porter Goss is not known for his sharp elbows. So why is the ex-spook
suddenly lashing out? Untangling Langley's politics.
By Michael Hirsh, Michael Isikoff and Mark Hosenball

Newsweek July 5 issue - Porter J. Goss of Hotchkiss and Yale has long been
seen as a model of patrician restraint on Capitol Hill. After 9/11, when
other Republicans in charge of overseeing intelligence condemned CIA
Director George Tenet, Goss stayed nimbly above the fray. I'm not going to
fall for the bait of getting into the political discussion, the chairman of
the House intelligence committee, who served in the CIA's clandestine
service for a decade, once said. So many a bushy eyebrow was raised when
Goss interrupted a House debate on a new intelligence bill-typically a
fairly genteel, not-so-partisan affair-with a classic political stunt last
week. Goss held up a sign with a 1977 quote from John Kerry that argued for
intel-budget cuts. I got books full of that stuff, Goss said. The
Democratic Party did not support the intelligence community. When
Democratic Rep. Norm Dicks fired back, pointing out that Dick Cheney was one
of the biggest defense cutters of the peace dividend '90s, Goss somewhat
sheepishly put the sign away. He hadn't meant to be combative, he said.

The same week the man long known as a CIA loyalist (Goss once started a
business with two former agency friends) took aim at his old spook pals.
Goss put his name atop a scathing critique of the agency: the CIA, his House
committee report said, has been ignoring its core mission activities and
the clandestine service is on its way to being a stilted bureaucracy
incapable of even the slightest bit of success. Even some Democrats said
that was over the top. In fact, said Rep. Anna Eshoo, she and other
intelligence committee Democrats blame Goss as much as the CIA for many such
problems. Democrats have deep frustrations with the committee's lack of
aggressive oversight under his leadership, Eshoo said. Outgoing Director
Tenet-who since announcing his resignation last month feels as though he's
taking the fall for everything, friends say-was apoplectic. He and Goss had
once been friendly. In a bitter, sarcastic letter, Tenet called the House
critique absurd and ill-informed.

What gives with Goss? Some of his backers say the retiring eight-term
congressman from Florida has become genuinely concerned about the breakdown
of U.S. intelligence. We can't keep going the way we've been going here,
Goss told NEWSWEEK last Saturday. We've had too many surprises. But
political observers in Washington think there's another explanation for his
new profile: Goss, 65, badly wants to finish up his career in Washington as
director of the CIA. Many of his Hill colleagues think he's campaigning hard
for the job and carrying the White House's water by attacking Kerry. By
confronting the CIA, Goss can also help the administration show that it is
serious about intel reform. It will need to be: a pair of punishing reports
on the agency's performance are due out next month from the 9-11 Commission
and the Senate intelligence committee.

Goss dismisses the talk about him becoming CIA director as
rumint-spook-speak for rumors. I am not campaigning for the job. I have
not sought the job. I have not asked for the job, he said. Goss refused to
say whether he has discussed the job with President George W. Bush, although
he acknowledged that I talk to the White House fairly often about
national-security matters. He cited the Kerry quote, he says, because of
what he sees as Democratic hypocrisy in hitting the Bush administration for
failing to fund intelligence.

The White House says no decision on Tenet's successor has been made, and the
president is still considering at least two

The Intelligence Agent Speaks
L'express.mu
DYER'S POINT

The book is called Imperial Hubris : Why the West is losing the War on
Terror, and it officially comes out on 4 July, but its author, Anonymous,
is already giving interviews. He is, we are assured, a senior
counter-terrorist expert still working in one of the US intelligence
agencies, and his message is that the Bush administration has played into
al-Qaeda's hands. In fact, he thinks that Osama bin Laden might even
campaign for Mr Bush, after his own fashion.

I'm. very sure that (al-Qaeda) can't have a better administration for them
than the one they have now, said Anonymous in a pre-publication interview
with the Guardian. Of course Osama bin Laden would vote for Bush. Not only
did Bush do what was expected of him after 9 novembre and invade
Afghanistan. When that didn't work out as well as al-Qaeda expected (it
didn't end up in a draining ten-year guerilla war for the United States, as
it had for the Soviet Union), then Mr Bush invaded Iraq.

But for the al-Qaeda leader the invasion of Iraq was a gift from God : his
own plan to bog America down in an Afghan quagmire failed, but Mr Bush then
voluntarily plunged the US into a even worse mess in Iraq.

The US occupation of Iraq is producing all the images bin Laden originally
hoped would be coming out of Afghanistan : Muslim women and children blown
apart by American bombs ; American soldiers torturing and sexually
humiliating Muslim men ; Muslim fighters armed only with light weapons,
faith and a willingness to die successfully defying US military power in
places like Falluja and Najaf.

Osama bin Laden can influence the US election either by launching terrorist
attacks in the United States before November, or with- holding them until
later. If he is still able to micro-manage the timing of such attacks from
his refuge somewhere along the Afghan-Pakistani border, which way will he
jump ? The answer is not as simple as Anonymous suggests.

Another big terrorist attack like 9 novembre - supposing that al-Qaeda's
remaining sleepers in the United States were able to mount it - would not
necessarily help M. Bush win reelection. It might just as easily be seen by
the American public as proof that he had failed in his main job. In fact, it
is so hard to predict whether another terrorist attack in the US would help
or harm Mr Bush that so long as he seems to be headed for victory in
November anyway, the safest course for al-Qaeda has been to do nothing.

If Mr Bush's numbers start to slide badly in the next couple of months and
it begins to look like Mr Kerry will win the election, then al-Qaeda may
decide to act and carry out an attack that kills a thousand Americans, and
you have discredited Mr Bush beyond hope of rehabilitation. But an attack
that kills only a couple of dozen Americans - enough to remind voters that
the terrorists are out to get them, but not enough to raise questions about
Mr Bush's competence in dealing with the threat - could be just what the
Bush campaign needs to squeak back in in November. So if the proportion of
decided voters intending to support Mr Bush sinks below 40 percent by
August, then there is the distinct possibility of a small-scale terrorist
attack, probably in some heartland city, in September or October - something
like a truck-bomb in Cincinnati or St. Louis, to pick two cities at random.

The terrorists are not on the run, as Mr Bush often suggests. They are
ruthless but intelligent people with rational goals, and their violence is
designed to deliver them to those goals. The game is still afoot, and nobody
could say at this point that they have failed.

Court Sends Bush War Power Setback
By Andrew Cohen

High Court Terror Rulings

Today's rulings mark a watershed in the current fight; a long-awaited
declaration by the judiciary that the executive branch must explicitly and
specifically justify itself when it seeks to treat men differently, even
during times of war.

(CBS) Attorney Andrew Cohen analyzes legal issues for CBS News and
CBSNews.com.

The Supreme Court today finally and substantially interjected itself into
the war on terrorism with a series of rulings that limit the power of the
President to wage that war without judicial oversight. Today's rulings mark
a watershed in the current fight; a long-awaited declaration by the
judiciary that the executive branch must explicitly and specifically
justify itself when it seeks to treat men differently, even during times of
war.

The Court today refused to accede to the Bush Administration's demand that
the judiciary back off and defer almost wholly to the President's war
authority. It refused to accept the vague assertions offered by the
military to justify the indefinite detention of a U.S. citizen. It opened
up the doors of the federal courts to foreign detainees to challenge their
confinement at Guantanamo Bay and perhaps at many other military bases as
well. It said to the executive branch that it may continue to prosecute the
war on terror but may do so only by ensuring that the means by which it
does comports with the Constitution as we know it.

This is one of those days, and these are a set of rulings, that judges and
lawyers and scholars will discuss and analyze generations from now, when
the country is in the throes of another conflict. It was a day when the
Court re-jiggered the balance of power between the branches in a way that
ought to comfort even those who are soothed by strong presidential
authority. It was a day of court compromise and irony; of dynamic language
and baffling inaction. It was a day when the doctrine of separation of
powers had a real and tangible meaning and effect. It was quite a day.

First came the case of Yaser Esam Hamdi, the U.S.-born,
presidentially-designated enemy combatant who was captured in Afghanistan
years ago. Detained without charges, or the ability to confer with an
attorney, Hamdi's father brought a case on his behalf. Today, the Court's
majority guaranteed Hamdi his day in some kind of court somewhere. In
reaffirming today the fundamental nature of a citizen's right to be free
from involuntarily confinement by his own government without due process of
law..., the Court rejected the government's position that affording such
due process would unnecessarily and dangerously distract military
officers and both intrude on the sensitive secrets of national defense
and result in a futile search for evidence buried under the rubble of war.

Instead, in Hamdi, the Court's majority fashioned a compromise that winds
around the case and the law like a vine. Bowing to Congress' post-9/11
Authorization for Use of Military Force, the Court first recognized the
power of the President to unilaterally and indefinitely detain citizens. It
was a close call. Only four Justices, including the Chief Justice William
Rehnquist, actually recognized this power. The fifth and deciding Justice,
Justice David Souter, expressly rejected the notion that Congress had given
the President the power to detain citizens but went along with his four
other colleagues anyway in order to give Hamdi terms closest to those I
would impose. Justices Antonin Scalia and John Paul Stevens voted against
such power as an unconstitutional power grab. Only Justice Clarence Thomas
did not.

posted at DrugWar.comMay 12, 2004

"Armed speedboats and a helicopter launched from a CIA 'mother ship' attacked Nicaragua's Pacific port, Puerto Sandino, on a moonless New Year's night in 1984. A week later, the speedboats returned to mine the oil terminal. Over the next three months, they laid more than 30 mines in Puerto Sandino and in the harbors at Corinto and El Bluff. In air and sea raids on costal positions, Americans flew-and fired from-an armed helicopter that accompanied the U.S. financed Latino force, while a CIA plane provided sophisticated reconnaissance guidance for the nighttime attacks. The operation, outlined in a classified CIA document, marked the peak of U.S. involvement in the four-year guerrilla war in Nicaragua. The most celebrated attack, by armed speedboats, came Oct. 11, 1983, against oil facilities at Corinto. Three days later, Latino frogmen sabotaged an underwater pipeline at Puerto Sandino. The message wasn't lost on Exxon, Esso unit, and the international giant informed the Sandinista government that it would no longer provide tankers for transporting oil to Nicaragua."The Wall Street Journal-March 6, 1985

December 21, 1982, the first Boland Amendment became law. "None of the funds provided in this Act [the Defense Appropriations Bill] may be used by the CIA or the Dept. of Defense to furnish military equipment, military training or advice, or other support for military activities, to any group or individual…for the purpose of overthrowing the government of Nicaragua. This act went into effect until Oct. 3, 1984, when it was superseded by a stronger prohibition known as "Boland II."
This "Boland II" amendment was designed to prevent any conceivable form of deceit by the covert action apparatus: "During fiscal year 1985, no funds available to the CIA, the Dept. of Defense, or any other agency or entity of the United States involved in intelligence activities may be obligated or expended for the purpose of which would have the effect of supporting, directly or indirectly, military or paramilitary operations in Nicaragua by a nation, group, organization, movement, or individual." The law was effective from October 3, 1984, to December 5, 1985, when it was superceded by various aid-limitation laws which, taken together, were referred to as "Boland III."
North was brought into the National Security Council staff in August 1981. One of the first assignments was to serve as the NSC staff liaison to the Kissinger Commission on Central America beginning in the summer of 1983.
After October 1984, Vice President Bush designated North to coordinate the re-supply operations for the Contra network. At the same time, he was involved in various schemes to ransom U.S. hostages being held in Lebanon, by providing arms to Iran.

Flight 93 Shootdown Pilot Identified
UPDATE, 6/29/04 04:30am PST: This Story Is Possibly/Probably DISINFOOKOKOK. I'm officially putting the brakes on this. Fair enough, I should have added a "HIGHLY SPECULATIVE" tag to this story, as I routinely do when the info is this thin. In my own defense, when I posted this, I noticed the weird use of language in the article, but I thought, "Just because the guy writing the story is an idiot doesn't mean his information isn't true. It doesn't mean it is either." I actually wrote that in an email to AL, a long time Cryptogon reader and contributor, who wrote to me indicating that he didn't buy this at all. Another long time Cryptogon reader, contributor and oilempire.us editor, Mark R, followed up with:dear kevin"lets roll" is blatant disinformationsee http://www.oilempire.us/911intro.html#disinformation for an explanation (it falsely claims that blurry doctored video images "prove" an anomalous "pod" under the 767 that hit the south tower -- when there is no real evidence or reason for this).lets roll is probably the LEAST trustworthy 9/11 site I have seeen, breathlessly exuberant but blatantly in contradiction to actual provable factsa "who is" search coupled with a reverse number / name lookup brings you the name of a local homeland security official. I haven't bothered to confirm that this person is the same as listed, but "lets roll" is blatant bullshit. It wouldn't surprise me if disinformation pretending to be real exposure was being pushed by the fed.gov -- it's sad that Alex Jones has been taking this sort of stuff seriously. Infowars has a lot of good material, but I don't consider them one of the best 9/11 sites since they don't bother with fact checking. Reader beware.I NEVER base this sort of conclusion on a single piece of evidence. It's interesting that Alex Jones's article about Col De Grand-Pre is then archived by the bogus letsroll site. It can get confusing to find the original source.MarkSo, the moral of the story is: Beware of fast spreading, thinly sourced memes, and be thankful that your friends are quick to point out when you've stepped in it. My original post follows:I know I don't believe in coincidences, but I swear that I had no idea this news would break when I posted the story, earlier today, on Understanding 911. The remarkable aspect of this is not that Flight 93 was shot down, but that the government has lied about its fate, even against the backdrop of the obvious physical evidence surrounding the incident. The U.S. government KNOWS that the public is so stupid that any lie, no matter how ridiculous, will be readily believed:LetsRoll has discovered the name of the pilot as well as all other pertinent information regarding this incident; "At precisely 0938 hours, an alarm was sounded at Langely Air Force Base, and those whom were on call, drinking coffee, were scrambled. Thus the 119th Fighter Wing was off for an intercept. They, the Happy Hooligans, a unit of 3 F-16 aircraft, were ordered to head toward Pennsylvania. At 0957 they spotted their target; After confirmation orders were received, A one Major Rick Gibney fired two sidewinder missiles at the aircraft and destroyed it in mid flight at precisely 0958; He was awarded a medal from the Governor one year later for his heroic actions. As well as Decorated by Congress on 9/13/2001. The Happy Hooligans were previously stationed in North Dakota, and moved to Langley Air Force base some months before 911 occured on a "Temporary assignment."

6/29/2004Let Freedom Reign: The Dawn of a New Iraq - or a Return to Secrecy and Killing?
I haven't been in an international relations class in a long time, but I seem to have a few fuzzy memories about some basic terminology. Here's a clue: when other states have deployed 160,000 troops in your country to use force as they see fit, your state does not posses sovereignty.SOVEREIGNTYDefinition: [n] government free from external control160,000 foreign troops in Iraq might mean that the government there isn't exactly free from "external control." Ya think?! God, the Newspeak They're using these days is completely ridiculous:Something happened in Baghdad yesterday, but what exactly? What we know is that somewhere in Saddam Hussein's sprawling former cantonment on the banks of the Tigris, behind silver miles of new razor wire, behind high concrete barriers stronger than most medieval fortifications, behind sandbags, five security checks, US armoured vehicles, US armoured soldiers, special forces of various countries and private security guards, behind secrecy and a fear of killing so intense that none save a handful of people knew it had happened until after it was over, an American bureaucrat handed a piece of paper to an Iraqi judge, jumped on a helicopter and left the country. Paul Bremer's departure and the handover of a limited form of sovereignty to an unelected Iraqi government was to be the end of military occupation and the beginning of independence. From London and Washington it may look that way and Iraqis, too, seem eager to believe that yesterday was the beginning of the end of chaos and fear. But the Bremer who waved from the steps of his departing C-130 did not only leave sovereignty, in the form of a terse two-paragraph letter, with the Iraqis. He left 160,000 foreign troops, a broken economy and a land beset by ruthless, reckless armed bands.

In 1967 Jim Garrison concluded that "In a very real and terrifying sense, our Government is the CIA and the Pentagon, with Congress reduced to a debating society." (Garrison led the first independent investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators of the JFK assassination - his book "On the Trail of the Assassins" was depicted in the Oliver Stone film "JFK.")

"It is far more dangerous and threatening to our few remaining civil liberties than he appears willing to suggest," writes Professor E. Nathaniel Gates of Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law about William Safire's recent article on the Homeland Security Act. "I had the rather grim and unfortunate duty of reviewing the legislation to which Safire refers in some detail," says Gates.[1] The Act, sponsored by Representative Dick Armey (R-TX) (whom the ACLU just astonishingly recruited as a consultant), and criticized by nearly every source on the internet, nonetheless passed the House 299-121. Why? Was it the continuing fear of terrorism?I do not think so.Although Bush apparently did not seriously consider the Homeland Security Act (HSA) provisions until after the attacks, its provisions were, like those of the USA PATRIOT Act, in the works long before September 11.The Act, furthermore, promotes the creation of what one senator once called "a global security system" controlled by the United States, not to mention a budding police state in America. This agenda falls neatly in line with the plan for American global dominance endorsed by Cheney, Wolfowitz, Powell, and Rumsfeld. Finally, the Homeland Security Act was structured on the recommendations of a special commission that was closely connected to, if not derived from, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), which one author notes "has had its hand in every major twentieth century conflict."
Homeland Security, the Hart-Rudman Commission, and the Council on Foreign Relations[2] "[T]he proposal for a Homeland Security Department originated in 1998 with the launching of the so-called Hart-Rudman Commission," officially called the United States Commission on National Security/21st Century, according to William F. Jasper.[3] The report issued by the Hart-Rudman Commission ("the Commission"), "Road Map for National Security: Imperative for Change," is dated January 31, 2001.The "Executive Summary"[4] of the Commission Report ("the Summary") declares: "In the new era, sharp distinctions between `foreign' and `domestic' no longer apply." The Commission does "not equate security with `defense.'" However, they "do believe in the centrality of strategy, and of seizing opportunities as well as confronting dangers.""The risk," says the Summary, "is not only death and destruction but also a demoralization that could undermine U.S. global leadership." (Emphasis added.)The Commission recommended "the creation of a new independent National Homeland Security Agency (NHSA) with

Understanding 911:Incompetence, Blowback, Pearl Harbor or Reichstag Fire?
9/11 Parable
Imagine a hypothetical situation where a team of vicious thieves plots an exceptionally violent bank robbery in the downtown financial district of a major city. Numerous anomalies are noticed during the commission of this crime.
The bank tellers are not able to send out an alarm to the police even though banks have numerous hidden silent alarms for foiling robbery.
The police take an extraordinarily long amount of time to show up on the scene, despite an unblemished record of fast response to prior robberies.
The cops who do eventually respond are not dispatched from the nearest police station, but from a suburban police force many miles away that travels far below emergency speeds to intercept the robbers.
The criminals are business partners of the chief of police and the Mayor, the Mayor's youngest brother is a director of the company providing security to the bank, and the City's comptroller (in charge of the money) came from a company in charge of remotely accessing the bank's electronics (which could explain the lack of transmission of an alarm at the start of the robbery).
The City Council passes new laws immediately after the robbery to crack down on the financial freedoms of the town's citizens, using the pretext that the police had an "intelligence failure" caused by inadequate budgets and inability of different departments to properly communicate with each other.
The newspapers report that nearby towns warned the police that the robbery was about to happen, but never collect all of these warnings into one report to show the overwhelming evidence that the City's elite deliberately allowed the robbers to act unhindered.
Despite these prior warnings, the police act surprised when notified it was underway. The commander of the nearest police station continues working at his desk despite the robbery across the street. The Mayor is holding a photo opportunity at a nearby elementary school, and continues reading to second graders even after his assistant whispers in his ear that bank robbers had just committed the largest mass murder in the city's history.
The region's liberal, "alternative" newspaper that had previously published accurate reports about the Mayor's corruption scandals attacks independent journalists who dare to describe these anomalies.
The police forces of the city and nearby cities were following the robbers before their assault on the bank, and the identity of the robbers (as declared by police spokespersons after the fact) is disputed by press accounts that several of the robbers have good alibis for being in other cities at the time.
Finally, long after the fact, information surfaces that the police were conducting practice exercises simulating official response to bank robbers. Some of the responding officers were away at this "war game" at the police training academy and therefore were unable to apprehend the perpetrators. The honest cops who were in the station were confused by other drills simulating robberies at the other banks in the city, drills that were scheduled by the top political and police leadership of the city at the same time as the real robberies, which made it difficult for the honest cops to determine which bank to protect until after the crimes were completed.

Plenty More to Swear About Bush's security team faces a barrage of criticism as the facts about Iraq come to light
Joe Klein
Saturday, Jun. 26, 2004The Vulcans—a campaign 2000 nickname for George W. Bush's hawkish national security team—went Krakatoa last week. Dick Cheney erupted on the Senate floor, deploying the F word against Vermont Democrat Patrick Leahy, who had been belaboring the Vice President over the no-bid deals that Cheney's old company, Halliburton, had scored in Iraq. Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz suffered a meltdown in a House Armed Services Committee hearing, blasting the press for "sitting in Baghdad" and "printing rumors." (He later apologized.) And the White House was forced to acknowledge that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld had approved, at least for a while, the use of dogs, nudity, stress positions—that is, torture—against enemy combatants. Indeed, Rumsfeld, who works at a stand-up desk, indicated a desire for at least one more strenuous stress position: "I stand 8-10 hours a day," he scrawled on a memo. "Why is standing limited to 4 hours?"
Presumably the Secretary of Defense doesn't do his standing naked, continuously, in the middle of the night, surrounded by hostile guards and attack dogs. But then, Rumsfeld's blustery testosteronics are at the heart of what has gone wrong with the Bush foreign policy—and last week the assorted temper tantrums appeared to be a leading indicator of a gathering summer storm confronting this presidency.
The torture investigation is one of four major defensive battles the Administration is facing. In the weeks to come, the White House will also have to deal with the 9/11 commission's final report, the congressional investigations into the CIA's bungled assessment of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and a special prosecutor's hunt for the White House leakers who blew the cover of CIA secret operative Valerie Plame. Not only is the Administration defending itself against the Democrats, the investigators and the media. Two other serious, surreptitious—and quite possibly unprecedented—battles are going on: the intelligence community is at war with the White House, and the uniformed military is at war with the civilian leadership of the Pentagon. The first conflict went public last week with news of the impending publication of Imperial Hubris: Why the West Is Losing the War on Terrorism, a book by an anonymous author who is known to be a senior CIA official and former chief of the agency's Osama bin Laden station. The invasion of Iraq was "an avaricious, premeditated, unprovoked war against a foe who posed no immediate threat," the author writes. "There is nothing that bin Laden could have hoped for more than the American invasion and occupation of Iraq."
Michael Moore couldn't have said it any better—and this book was vetted by CIA censors. In fact, the views of Anonymous are an accurate reflection of the opinions I've heard from multiple intelligence sources. The spooks seem to believe that outgoing CIA Director George Tenet was strong-armed by Cheney and Rumsfeld into overassessing Iraq's WMD capacity. This may or may not be true, but it is the conventional wisdom in the intelligence community. Furthermore, there is intense anger over the White House's revealing the identity of Plame, who may have been active in a sting operation involving the trafficking of WMD components. Plame was outed in a White House attempt to discredit the finding of her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, that there was no evidence that Iraq tried to buy yellowcake uranium from Niger. "Only a very high-ranking official could have had access to the knowledge that Plame was on the payroll" of the CIA, an intelligence source told me.
The military has made no secret of its fury with Rumsfeld and

How to protect yourself when the government, the media, and the legal
system threaten your freedom and livelihood.
(Plus, how to get the edge at work and at home -- as explained by Bill
   O'Reilly)

Who's Looking Out for You? is the latest dose of common sense and plain
speaking from Bill O'Reilly, the vigorous, straight-shooting host of
Fox's wildly popular O'Reilly Factor. O'Reilly presents here an
inspiring defense of the traditional family and scathing critiques of
today's materialistic consumer culture, the perils of big government,
the damage that the media establishment is doing to our nation's
children, and much more.

With his trademark wit and clarity on abundant display, O'Reilly also
zeroes in on the ridiculous lengths that liberals go to today to banish
all traces of religion from public life, skewers the anti-war hysteria
that almost kept Saddam Hussein's brutal regime in power, and lambastes
the self-serving legal establishment who are exploiting the American
justice system for their own personal profit -- as well as the
self-serving civil rights establishment that does nothing to bring real
   relief to the urban poor.

O'Reilly even includes the secrets of his own success, secrets that
young people can study and use profitably in their own professional
lives. In fact, from beginning to end Who's Looking Out for You? is a
virtual guidebook to responsibility and productivity. As such, it's a
terrific guidebook to teach young people essential aspects of how to be
conservative -- and a wonderful celebration of the values that have made
our nation the envy of the earth.

[CTRL] Witness to Barbarism

2004-06-29 Thread Dale Stonehouse
-Caveat Lector-

Please do not distribute this information without its background
documentation information.

The following is from the book Witness to Barbarism by Horace R. Hansen,
copyright 2002, Thousand Pinetree Press, Grey Eagle, MN, Library of
Congress Control Number 2002115166, ISBN 0-9720849-0-8

The introduction, from www.horacehansen.com

Introduction

Look at the universe, the planets and stars millions of light years away,
moving in exact orbits. What is man compared to that? Nothing but a louse .
. . You can smash it.

- Adolf Hitler, at a wartime military conference

Fifty years after Hitler lost his bid to rule the world, we struggle to
understand his contempt for all human life, even for his own people. That
he could run two wars at once - for the conquest of territory and the
genocide of the Jews - without noticing that the efforts mutually limited
each other - is difficult to fathom. But he gave plenty of warning about his
intent. In his early writing and on an almost daily basis at his wartime
conferences, he revealed deep-seated nihilism in speeches like the one
above, again and again. No wonder the military losses (his own and
others'), the concentration camp deaths, and the extermination of millions
of Jews, Gypsies, Communists, intellectuals, homosexuals, labor leaders, and
others didn't bother him.

While we would prefer to forget about the suffering inflicted by this man
and his deputies, we cannot. For even in the face of international memory -
made vivid through the opening of the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C.,
the debut of Steven Spielberg's film Shindler's List and the 50th
anniversary of the end of World War II - Neo-Nazis and others claim the
Holocaust never occurred.

Now we are beginning to hear, on a grand scale, the stories of the
thousands, representing silenced millions more, who suffered in the face of
Hitler's insanity. Finally, many who had been silent have decided they must
give testimony before it is too late. Finally, in Willmar, Minnesota, for
example, eyewitnesses gather at the request of history teacher William F.
Borth for A Night of Remembrance before an audience packed into a local
auditorium.

Here Dachau slave laborer Monsignor Stanislaus Grabrowski says, What is
hunger? It's not appetite. Hunger you feel with every fiber of your mind
and body. There is such an emptiness. It is difficult to think. We prayed
that our skin and bones would be saved and that somehow we would be filled
in.

There is no way to really describe it. If you ever try to talk to a blind
person about colors describing the beauty of nature, the blind person would
not understand because he never saw it. It was a daily struggle to survive
and a daily danger of being killed. There were over 2,000 priests taken to
Dachau. When the Americans liberated us, we were 860.

And concentration-camp prisoner Fred Baron describes his journey by train to
Auschwitz. The guards drive us with clubs, dogs, and weapons until each
car was filled to capacity-then they closed the sliding doors. I found
myself in pitch black darkness . . . There was no food, no water, and
worst, no sanitary facilities . . . It took us several hours before we
devised a method whereby half of us in the car would keep standing while
the other half would squat in each other's lap, to be able to rest our
bones. The trip took us three days and three nights. There were men, women,
old and young, and children. In our car, people died and went insane.

There are others here as elsewhere: William Landgren, formerly a U.S.
Infantry company commander, describes bodies piled by the crematory at
Dachau when the American troops liberated the camp in April 1945. I am here,
too, to recount discoveries made during the prosecution of Nazi war
criminals at the Dachau trials and during my interviews with five of the
stenographers who recorded Hitler's military conferences.

But I realize that saying what I know is not enough. This evening's program
is a response to hate mail and newsletters denying the Holocaust, demanding
the resignation of Bill Borth, and threatening his family because he teaches
high-school seniors a course (in its 12th years as I write this) on
Hitler's quest for territory and extermination of the Jews. Without our
stories - told again and again - and without an easily accessible record of
the things we have seen and heard, our young people will find it too easy
to believe the disbelievers and rest content that such evil could never
happen anywhere, much less here. (See appendix.)

Too often we have been content to let others do our thinking, to be
uninvolved in controversy. Such complacency - evidenced by poor voting
records, for example - could leave us ripe for a government and Holocaust
like Hitler's. Leading a flock of sheep is, after all, easier that
controlling a lot of strays. Without knowledge of the past, ourselves, and
human nature, and with economic depression, street riots,

[CTRL] The Neocons Manufactured Case For War

The Neo-cons' Manufactured Case for War

by Stefan Halper and Jonathan Clarke

Stefan Halper, director of the Donner Atlantic Studies Program at Cambridge University, was a White House official in the Nixon and Ford administrations and a deputy assistant secretary of state under President Reagan. Jonathan Clarke is a Cato Institute foreign affairs scholar and a former counselor in the British Diplomatic Service. This article was extracted with the authors' permission from their new book, "America Alone: The Neo-Conservatives and the Global Order," Cambridge University Press.

One reason the United States finds itself at the edge of a foreign policy disaster is its underinformed citizenry, a key weakness in a democracy.

Some seven years ago, the veteran journalist Garrick Utley noted a counterintuitive paradox. As U.S. global power -- military and economic -- expanded in the 1990s, coverage of international affairs in the U.S. press diminished.

A closer look revealed that except for the principal national newspapers, most major metropolitan papers had little or no staff reporting daily from abroad. News editors say they could not justify the cost of expensive overseas bureaus in view of their readers' limited interest in foreign affairs.

As a result, readers were offered fewer foreign stories and had less context for understanding overseas events.

When the president travels, the media go with him. But when he moves on, so does the media caravan. No one is left behind to report the aftermath as, for example, in October 2003, when China's president appeared before the Australian Parliament 24 hours after President Bush and instead of the grim "with us or against us" Bush exhortations regarding the terrorist threat, offered an interactive, optimistic, trade-based vision of East Asia's future. Who left the deeper impression? It took two months for U.S. readers to get the reports.

The lack of timely, in-depth international reporting means Americans are more likely to react to events abroad through the limited prism of their emotions or ethnic backgrounds or in line with their domestic political alignments.

The scope for misunderstanding broadened in the 1990s when the cable news channels introduced a type of hyper-tabloid coverage directed at certain demographies and driven by ratings. The result was a format that saw itself as entertainment. It simplified news developments and hardened viewer attitudes toward what often were nuanced international challenges. A new genre of celebrity, the "talking head," emerged, whose main quality was firm, unambiguous opinions rather than grounded knowledge.

In 2001, an America largely disinterested and uninformed about foreign affairs was convulsed by terrorism from abroad. It was a moment defined by fear, the most basic human emotion that, more than others, suspends time and thought and renders those in its grip unusually susceptible to demagoguery. This was the moment when a small, largely unknown group of neoconservatives injected itself decisively into the foreign policy process. These neoconservatives, with origins among formerly left internationalist Democrats, tend to be characterized by a Jacobin, uncompromising set of values.

In retrospect, one could not know how susceptible an inexperienced president and a less informed polity would be to the policies that have brought about the risky positions in which the nation now finds itself. Since then, the major print and electronic media have moved to redress the foreign news balance. But it has been a game of catch-up.

Foreign bureaus remain under-resourced, and the availability of news, other than on immediate crises, is still limited. The American people lack a foundation of knowledge that would enable them to dodge, for example, Fox News' frequent disinformation bullets. Perhaps most disturbing, an accurate understanding of the issues we face remains elusive.

Just before the second anniversary of the September 11 attack, polls showed 70 percent of Americans believed the hijackers were Iraqis, that Saddam Hussein used chemical weapons against our troops, and there was a proven link between Saddam and al Qaeda. It is clear this lack of public grasp contributed to limits on debate in decisive hours after September 11 when the neoconservatives steered their way

A striking aspect of U.S. response to September 11 was the unwillingness of the center -- once this would have been called the "Establishment": the Senate, the House of Representatives, the Judiciary, foreign policy institutions and media leaders -- to open a public debate in 2003 on the administration policy.

A network of overlapping interests in the center made it difficult to break ranks and ask disquieting questions. Politicians are sensitive to opinion polls of the moment; journalists need sources, and so do not tell all they know. News anchors need

Zionism: A Conspiracy Against Jews
By Henry Makow Ph.D.

Bankers Backed Nazism Zionism

In 1935 the steamer "Tel Aviv" made its maiden voyage from Nazi Germany to Haifa with Hebrew letters on its bow and a Nazi flag fluttering from its mast. The Captain of the Zionist-owned ship was a member of the Nazi Party. A passenger described the spectacle as a "metaphysical absurdity."

Actually it made perfect sense.

The ship transported German Jews who had taken advantage of the "Haavara" program, which allowed them to exchange their money for its value in Germany products in Palestine. As a result, the fledgling Jewish colony received about 70,000 highly educated German Jews and 140 million Reichmarks worth of German industrial equipment. This laid the foundation of Israel's economic infrastructure.

The arrangement also boosted the Nazi economy at a time when Jews worldwide were boycotting German goods. (My source here is "The Secret Contacts" by Klaus Polkehn a prominent German journalist. It is included in Olivia O'Grady's The Beasts of the Apocalypse, 2001, 421-447.)

Why retell this story of Zionist-Nazi cooperation?

Because "Jewish" leaders have been exploiting their "lesser brethren" for a long time, and are doing so today. Ordinary Jews pay the price and this price could rise.

In my opinion, Zionism is a movement to deceive Jews into advancing the objectives of British imperialism. (See, "The Jewish Conspiracy is British Imperialism") Of course, Zionists who have built their lives on a false premise naturally will reject this view.

Specifically, Jews helped the British-Jewish elite colonize the oil-rich Middle East under the pretext of Jews needing a national home. Despite the appearance of neutrality, the British (and Americans) financed, trained and equipped the Jews. (John Coleman, Diplomacy by Deception p. 107.)

The "British" are really the London-based international banking cartel associated with names like Rothschild and Rockefeller. It doesn't answer to any government. Its goal is to colonize the world and everyone in it. Jews are a means to this end.

As seen in Iraq, Zionists (a.k.a Neocons) play a major role in the colonization of the Middle East. The important thing to remember is that Israel is the creation of this cartel; both Israel and the US are its tools.

Iraq is only a phase in the emerging New World Order, which represents a continuation of the goals of "British" imperialism. John Kerry will take up in Iraq where George Bush leaves off. Democracy is a charade.

Nazis Made to Measure for Zionism

In 1925, Germany's 500,000 Jews were overwhelmingly indifferent or actively hostile to Zionism. The German Zionist movement had only 9000 members.

The "Central Union of Germans of the Jewish Faith " represented most German Jews and favored active participation in German life. Its main focus was on combating anti-Semitism.

Zionists, on the other hand, welcomed the Nazis' anti Semitic policies. Like the Nazis, they believed in race-based national character and destiny. Like the Nazis, they believed Jews had no future in Germany.

The Zionists did not protest Nazi persecution such as the removal of 2000 Jewish scholars and scientists from German universities in 1933. The Nazis rewarded this "restraint" by allowing the Zionists to go about their work unhindered. All other Jewish and anti fascist organizations were disbanded and their members imprisoned.

The Nazis required all Jews to join the Zionist-led "Reich Union" whose goal was emigration. Jews were to be converted to Zionism at any cost. The Zionists were able to publish books and newspapers critical of the Nazis so long as the audience was restricted to Jews.

The cooperation extended to political and economic spheres. Adolph Eichmann set up agricultural training camps in Austria to prepare young Jews for Kibbutz life. He visited Palestine and conferred with Zionist leaders who confessed their true expansionist goals. There was even talk of a strategic alliance between Nazi Germany and Jewish Palestine. His report is in Himmler's Archives. (440-447)

[For more on Zionist-Nazi cooperation, see online Lenni Brenner "Zionism in the Age of Dictators" www.marxists.de/middleast/brenner/ Also, Lenni Brenner, 51 Documents: Zionist Collaboration With the Nazis (2002)]

The cooperation may have extended to the Jewish Holocaust and explain why most Jews passively accepted their fate. In his book, "The Holocaust Victims Accuse" Rabbi Moshe Shonfeld claims that Zionist- led Jewish Councils ("Judenrats") collaborated with the Nazis and deceived non Zionist Jews. See my "Zionism: Compulsory Suicide for Jews." www.savethemales.ca/091202.html

Europe's Jews were worth more dead than alive to Zionists and their financial sponsors. The Holocaust provided a political and moral rationale for the establishment of the Jewish state.

Those Courageous Americans Who Fought For America First

Many Americans with a remembrance of our nation's history throughout this violent century have recollections of the America First movement, active from the late 1930s through to the attack on Pearl Harbor. This group of redoubtable patriots and honest-to-god heroes fought the good fight, in the face of long odds and vicious smears, against US intervention in the European conflagration that would become World War II.

It is admitted that the Americ First Committee spoke for the great majority of Americans, who did not want another war. The movement itself was composed of three general types of people. The largest contingent were Americans who supported the traditional policy of the US neutrality in foreign conflicts. The second category were the pacifists who opposed war in general. The Quakers were the leading religious opposition to intervention. Finally, there were those who were variously anti-British or pro-German.

Today, almost all of these patriots who opposed the war are gone and few are widely remembered, though those most prominent in the movement are still vicously smeared as "fascists" and "Nazi sympathizers," a ridiculous, unsupported claim to which we put the lie in this issue.

We can think of no better to set the record straight, or to celebrate TBR's 24th month of publication - and fulfill our mission of bringing history into accord with the facts - than to salute a distinguished representative group of these courageous individuals. They were, from the famous to the foot soldiers, dedicated clarions of American liberty who stood firmly against alien pressure to get ensnared in the greatest tragedy of this century.

These speeches and papers we've dug up for this issue, by Lindbergh, Igor Sigorski and Gerald P. Nye, are rare and next to impossible to come by these days, In them, you will read, in their own words, the reasons they give for staying out of the war. And you will see that they promoted their cause so vigorously not because they approved of National Socialism or fascism, but rather because they loved America, its form of government and its people, and wanted more than anything to preserve it.

Roosevelt sneeringly referred to pioneering aviator and certified American hero Charles A. Lindbergh as a "copperhead" in this regard. "Copperhead" was the term applied by fevered abolitionists and self-interested warmongers to northerners who had the courage to speak out against the events that were inevitably leading to the unnecessary horrors of the Civil War. Unwittingly, a man of unbounded evil complimented a man of honor and true greatness.

The average American continued his private struggles before the war began overseas and prior to the time the US entered the conflict. But while these many millions of patriotic folk were absorbed in their daily routines, others were making plans for them - lethal plans. From the centers of Zionist influence, the New Deal political operations, the profit-grubbing Blue Chip boardrooms and the elite, genteel bastions of wealthy East Coast Anglophiles, another agenda was being pursued with tireless determination. As with the abolitionist zealots and war profiteers of 1861-1865, of least concern was the enormous blood sacrifice that would be demanded of our nation.

During that crucial period, John T. Flynn was one of the nation's few journalists who combined wisdom and courage in the face of an insidious smear campaign. Writing in 1939, he reminded America that New Deal spending schemes had not ended the depression but had in fact placed us ever deeper in debt. Flynn referred to the "disease" of statist economic manipulation that "has attacked the body of the European societies but which has also attacked the body of our society. . ."

Flynn continued: "Let us remember that one of the most important social functions is the economic function - the production and distribution of the necessities of life, and it is that function which is being broken down inside our society here in America. The way to meet our problem (and to curb runaway government and its spending) is to treat that disease here and not run to fires in Europe. . ."

When President Roosevelt dispatched US troops to occupy Iceland in July, 1941, to relieve British troops for duty elsewhere, Sen. Robert A. Taft, who became known as Mr. Integrity as well as Mr. Republican, stated: "There is no ease in American history which compares to the landing of troops in Iceland. It is not defense of America or American property. It is beyond the power of the president and without authority from Congress. The real purpose of seizing Iceland is not the defense of the United States but defense of ships going from North America to Great Britain."

Evidently with an eye on Geneva Convention articles covering acts of war and signed by the United States, Sen. Taft observed: "If,

Internet, terrorists' channel of choice for communication
Associated Press
New York, June 29

Al-Qaeda-linked terror groups and their sympathisers have in recent months
made a big splash on the Internet, making it their communications channel of
choice.

They're benefiting from free discussion boards, e-mail accounts and other
online forums for propaganda, recruitment, fund-raising and even planning.

If law enforcement has done little to squelch these outlets, it's only in
part because of the difficulty of catching moving targets. More importantly,
these online soapboxes can provide investigators with crucial leads.

It's a game of cat and mouse in which the cat is always going to be
behind, said Michael Vatis, former cybersecurity director at the FBI.

It's a strategy to actually use these sites for gathering intelligence
rather than engaging in a futile effort to shut them down.

Mark Rasch, a former Justice Department computer crimes prosecutor, said he
wouldn't be surprised if law enforcement set up some of these forums -- much
as undercover investigators create phoney businesses to lure mobsters.

When such sites do get shut down, it's generally the work of hackers or the
private Web hosting companies that unwittingly allow them to publish online,
said Gabriel Weimann, who studies terrorism online at the US Institute of
Peace.

In recent weeks, sites and discussion boards carrying gruesome images and
video of beheaded Americans quickly went offline.

At one, a message from the kidnappers of Paul M Johnson Jr was replaced by a
disclaimer saying the hosting company does not support terrorism and had
removed the material for violating its use policies.

But it doesn't take long for word to spread through chat rooms and
discussion boards about new locations. By the time an extremist venue
closes, its messages have likely been duplicated at many other forums.

A discussion forum that went down shortly after the appearance of images of
Johnson's beheading in Saudi Arabia re-emerged later with new links to the
images as well as those of a slain Korean captive in Iraq.

FBI officials in Washington declined requests for interviews for this story,
citing continuing investigations. Saudi authorities also would not talk
about their efforts to monitor Internet discussions, including those
connected to Johnson's kidnappers.

Separate research conducted by Weimann, Dartmouth College and The Associated
Press found terrorists to be using the Internet in several ways:

Propaganda: Terrorists make demands, try to elicit sympathy, attempt to
instill fear and chaos and to explain themselves. The Web lets them offer up
gruesome video images that broadcasters would reject.

Recruitment: Chat rooms are monitored and questionnaires sent to prospects,
though recruits must often pass many tests online and offline before they
are accepted.

Fund-raising: Sites solicit donations to charities that may serve as fronts
for terror groups, in many cases by providing mailing addresses and
wire-transfer accounts.

Planning: Free e-mail accounts connect members around the world. Messages
are often encrypted, and Dartmouth researchers say online manuals even
discuss ways to avoid detection. Following a security crackdown in Saudi
Arabia, one poster warned fighters to avoid a certain location.

Politicians and, of course, commercial interests effectively use the
Internet to convey their message, appeal for support and attract...
financial contributions, said Brian Jenkins, a terrorism expert at the Rand
Corp These (terror) groups behave in the same way.

It is difficult to tell when online extremists are active fighters or simply
sympathisers, but it's clear that many hitch on to free resources that
anyone can sign up for and where

Army Plans Involuntary Call-Up of Thousands
Mon Jun 28, 2004 11:16 PM ET
By Will Dunham

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Army is planning an involuntary mobilization
of thousands of reserve troops to maintain adequate force levels in Iraq and
Afghanistan, defense officials said on Monday.

The move -- involving the seldom-tapped Individual Ready Reserve --
represents the latest evidence of the strain being placed on the U.S.
military, particularly the Army, by operations in those two countries.

Roughly 5,600 soldiers from the ready reserve will be notified of possible
deployment this year, including some soldiers who will be notified within a
month, said an Army official speaking on condition of anonymity.

A senior defense official said, These individuals are being called back to
fill specific shortages for specific jobs.

The official said the last time the Individual Ready Reserve, mainly made up
of soldiers who have completed their active duty obligations, was mobilized
in any significant numbers was during the 1991 Gulf War.

Army officials are in the process of briefing members of Congress on the
mobilization and plan a formal announcement on Wednesday.

The Army official said the mobilization will be through the rest of the
year. Some could be within a month.

It would be an involuntary measure, an involuntary mobilization, the Army
official said. It's approximately 5,600.

We're not calling up units, we're just using all the existing assets in
theater and we're augmenting those assets with these individuals -- various
occupational specialties, various different types of officers running the
whole gamut, the Army official said.

The official said military police and civil affairs personnel were among the
specialties involved.

The defense official said that while soldiers in the Individual Ready
Reserve have served their voluntary obligation in the Army they still can be
mobilized involuntarily for several years after returning to civilian life.

Sometimes there's a misperception by some of the individuals ... that 'I've
done my obligation, I've been in the Army, thank you very much, and I'm
done'. But you're not done, the official said.
The Pentagon had originally planned to reduce the number of American troops
in Iraq to approximately 110,000 by now, but continuing security problems
compelled officials to maintain a level of about 138,000 troops. Officials
have said they planned to maintain that number through the end of 2005.

The United Sates has another 20,000 troops in Afghanistan.

This spring, the Pentagon delayed by about three months the scheduled
departure from Iraq of roughly 20,000 U.S. troops.

During the Carter Administration, Lewis was the architect of madman Zbigniew Brzezinski's "Arc of Crisis" policy of fomenting Muslim Brotherhood fundamentalist insurrections all along the southern tier of the Soviet Union. The planned fostering of radical Islamist war provocations was known, at the time, as "the Bernard Lewis Plan." Among the fruits of this Lewis-Brzezinski collusion: the February 1979 Ayatollah Khomeini "Islamic Revolution" in Iran, which overthrew the Shah, and sent the once-proud center of the Islamic Renaissance back into a 20-year dark age; and the 1979-1988 Afghanistan War, provoked by Brzezinski's July 1979 launching of covert support for Afghan mujahideen "Contras" inside Afghanistansix months prior to the Soviet Red Army's Christmas Eve invasion.
Brzezinski recommended UN involvement and a handover of power, and getting involved in the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. In other words, he was whitewashing his image by publicly recommending positions opposite to those he recommends in private.
Bernard Lewis Plan, Take II
Since the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Lewis has, not surprisingly, resurfaced in numerous locations. After all, the 85-year old British Arab Bureau mandarin has been London's point-man in the United States since 1974, when he was posted to H.G. Wells' outpost at Princeton University's Center for Advanced Studies, to secure American compliance with British geopolitical manipulations in the Middle East, the Caucasus, the Caspian Basin, and Central Asia.
To put it bluntly: British intelligence senior operator Lewis is the guiding hand behind the ongoing U.S. neo-conservative drive for a new "Thirty Years War" in Eurasia. This drive is at the heart of the ongoing coup d'état attempt against the George W. Bush Administration, which began with the Sept. 11 irregular warfare attacks on New York City and Washington.
Lewis' arrival at Princeton, after serving on the faculty of the University of London's Middle East and Africa faculty (the repository of the original India House files, long officially referred to as the Colonial Department), coincided with then-Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger's fomenting of the civil war in Lebanon. That persists to the present day, and served as a laboratory for the later "Islamic revolution" in Iran.
Lewis is no mere British quackademic. After obtaining his doctorate in the history of Islam from the University of London School of Oriental and African Studies, he joined the university faculty in 1938. From 1940-45, Lewis was, in his own understated words, "otherwise engaged," as a wartime British Military Intelligence officer, later seconded to the British Foreign Office. To this day, Lewis remains mum about his wartime "engagements."
Since arriving at Princeton, Lewis has been demonstrably responsible for every piece of strategic folly and insanity into which the United States has been suckered in Asia Minor. The Wellsian "method to his madness" has been the persistent push to eliminate the nation-state system, and launch murderous wars stretching across the Eurasian region.
*During the Carter Administration, Lewis was the architect of madman Zbigniew Brzezinski's "Arc of Crisis" policy of fomenting Muslim Brotherhood fundamentalist insurrections all along the southern tier of the Soviet Union. There is No Justification for Torture
by Patrick Leahy
2004 The Boston Globe

Once exceptions are made for torture, it is impossible to draw the line, and even more
troubling is who would be in charge of drawing it. If torture is justified in
Afghanistan, why is it not justified in China, or Syria, or Argentina, or Miami? If
torture is justified to obtain information from a suspected terrorist, why not from
his wife or children? Some argue it is a new world since the attacks of September 11.
To some degree, they are right, which is why we have reacted with tougher laws and
better tools to fight this war. But do we really want to usher in a new world that
justifies inhumane, immoral and cruel treatment as any means to an end?

We must reject the dangerous notion that torture can be legally justified.

Rumors swirl of pending Olympic False Flag by Israel

Major concerns over Israels role in uncoming Olympics have countries worried.

Countries react

Spanish officials bring up the possibility that Israel was behind the Madrid train bombing . Indonesia refuses to participate after the massive attack that killed 200 people at a Bali resort. Arab countries say We wont attend . They have suffered years of Israeli attacks from Luxor to Egyptair 990 to the recent spat of bombings.

Israel is shocked at such slanderous accusations. Israel's Shin Bet security agency will protect the Israeli team - guarding Israeli quarters in the Olympic village.

Un-named sources say Israel is bringing in IDF snipers , Shin Beth , private contractors and every gun toting pyscho in Israel. They will combine with NATO, the US and Greece. The fear here is Israel will use this worldwide coverage to pull off a spectacular attack and an Israeli led retaliation ( similar to the staged Entebbe raid )

Officials speculate it will be an air attack

Ex-CIA personal say they would expect an air attack of sort. Possibilities range from an airliner, to the Goodyear blimp to even a Micro Nuke similar to the one Israel used in Bali.

Sack 'Em and Rack 'Em
By David H. Hackworth

America would be a whole lot safer if the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff,
Gen. Richard Myers, was flying for Virgin Airlines, and Defense Secretary Donald
Rumsfeld was competing on Survivor. Both war leaders have done so miserable a
job honchoing the military side of our critical conflict against global
terrorism, and in the process so jeopardized our national security, that they
should be sacked for dereliction of duty.

Contrary to continuing political spin, Iraq and Afghanistan both are running
sores with little promise of even a long-term turnaround, and our world today is
far more dangerous than it was before 9/11. Unless there's a 180-degree change
in overall strategy, the USA is doomed to follow the same bloody path through
these two brutal killing fields that the Soviet Union took in Afghanistan.

The mighty sword that Rumsfeld and Myers inherited four years ago - the finest
military force in the world - is now chipped and dulled. And the word is that it
will take at least a decade to get our overextended, bone-tired soldiers and
Marines and their worn-out gear back in shape.

Top generals like former NATO commander Wes Clark and a squad of retired and
active-duty four-stars warned long before the invasion of Iraq: Don't go there.
It doesn't involve our national security. It's not the main objective in our war
with international terrorism. Even retired four-star Colin Powell said that if
we go to Iraq and break the china, we own it. But know-it-all Rumsfeld and
go-along-to-get-along Myers totally ignored this sound military advice.

Before the invasion of Iraq, Army Chief of Staff Gen. Eric Shinseki, a
distinguished soldier with counter-guerrilla campaigns in Vietnam and Bosnia
under his pistol belt, was asked by Congress how many soldiers he thought would
be needed for the occupation phase in Iraq. His response: A minimum of 200,000.

Rumsfeld treated this courageous soldier - who left half a foot in the Vietnam
Delta - like a leper for telling a truth that was obviously contrary to party
lockstep. And Shinseki's spot-on troop estimate was discredited and ridiculed by
senior Pentagon chicken hawks like Paul Wolfowitz, a man who dodged the draft
during Vietnam and wouldn't know a tank from a Toyota.

Even though Rumsfeld and Myers know zilch about ground fighting in an insurgent
environment, they were convinced Shock 'n' Awe would do the trick, just as
another military dilettante, former SecDef Robert McNamara, believed the big
hammer would win in Vietnam, a war where the USA dropped three times the bomb
tonnage and used twice the artillery firepower than was used in all of World War
II.

Space doesn't allow for the long laundry list of what went wrong after the Iraqi
army was predictably defeated by a brilliant Wham, Bam, Goodbye Saddam
air-and-ground attack and the present occupation phase kicked off. But the key
screw-ups are:

* Our ground units went in far too light. They didn't have - and still don't
have - sufficiently trained numbers and the right force mix to cope with the
growing mess on the ground.

* There wasn't an effective plan to deal with the looting, rioting and civil
disorder or the early insurgent attacks. Army and Marine skippers in Iraq from
company to division tried to put out four-alarm fires without sufficient force,
equipment and logistics. Crisis management prevailed.

* Iraqi police, civil-defense corps, the regular army and border-patrol units -
which could have prevented much of the chaos and civil disobedience that
followed - were precipitously disbanded.

In this column on April 1, 2003, when many Americans and all the White House and
Pentagon war hawks were gloating about the easy victory in Iraq, I wrote:
Hopefully ... he (G.W. Bush) won't make the mistake of another Texas president
who didn't sack his SecDef and Joint Chiefs chairman straight away for their
screw-ups (See Stuck in the Quicksand, DefenseWatch, Apr. 1, 2003).

Fox's Brit Hume publicly ridiculed my analysis, much like Wolfowitz did Shinseki
's. I wonder if Hume and Wolfowitz like their crow served hot or cold.

Our president says he's not big on reading newspapers. But perhaps former
librarian Laura will share this column with her husband and suggest he follow
Harry Truman's example of firing his inept SecDef when the Korean War was going
badly.

[CTRL] Inflation Data - Too Hot To Handle??

2004-06-29 Thread flw2
-Caveat Lector-

MYSTERY BEHIND LATE RELEASE OF PPI DATA

By JOHN CRUDELE

June 29, 2004 -- ONLY a dedicated cynic and a devout pain like me probably would
bring this up, but how can the U.S. Labor Department expect people to believe
statistics like the producer price index if the number is saturated in mystery?
The Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics delayed release of the
wholesale inflation number - the PPI - by half a week recently because,
according to a press release, it needed to resolve unexpected difficulties in
calculating the index.

A government agency doesn't produce a very important economic statistic on a
timely basis and that's their best explanation?

This is the same economic series that was delayed for months in early 2004. And
it's a number that will prove important when the Federal Reserve meets today and
tomorrow to decide if interest rates should be raised.

Keep in mind that billions of dollars are wagered each day on whether inflation
is increasing or falling. And remember that the PPI is one of the most visible
gauges of this - watched all over the world.

Not only is the number important to the Fed, but it's also key to the
presidential election if only because it can change the economy by forcing
financial markets to make borrowing costs more expensive.

The BLS expresses its apologies to those who experience any problems as a
result of this delay, the Labor Department said on its Web site.

When the PPI was finally released it showed an increase of 0.8 percent in May,
the biggest jump since March 2003. If you take out food and energy prices the
increase was 0.3 percent.

That the media didn't seem to care about this delay was as astounding as the
government's ineptitude. So let me be one voice of indignation.

(Pound fist on desk) We need to know what's going on!

I called the Labor Department between the time the PPI was delayed and its
eventual release. I got a little fuller explanation but one that was still
completely unacceptable.

Brian Catron, a BLS economist who works on the PPI data, says the number was
delayed because there was a calculation issue.

What exactly does that mean? Does Catron mean that the PPI's jump, as originally
calculated, was too large for the financial markets to handle?

You are implying that we are manipulating the number, Catron shot back when I
asked. I'm not going to dignify that with a response.

OK, don't respond. I'm still wondering if that was the case.

But here are some other things you might want to know.

Catron assured me that the mistake that caused the PPI's delay had to do with
the quality of the data that were provided by manufacturers.

And he contended that Labor Department higher-ups had not seen the original
number before it was pulled, so only lowly bureaucrats decided to rejigger the
data.

The raw data, Catron told me days before the PPI finally came out, didn't pass a
quality assurance test. Prices - as they stood on the day they were originally
supposed to be released - just weren't appropriate for public viewing.

A little editing and they apparently become appropriate. Which makes me wonder:
shouldn't someone be keeping an eye on the stat-amagicians?

"2004 U.S. PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION: BUSH, KERRY THE PERMANENT WARFARE STATE" - The Coop Radio Forum has invited author and editor Michel Chossudovsky to discuss the 2004 U.S. Presidential Election and the U.S. permanent warfare state. "The powers behind this system are those of the global banks and financial institutions, the military-industrial complex, the oil and energy giants, the biotech conglomerates and the powerful media and communications giants, which fabricate the news and overtly distorts the course of world events. In turn, the police apparatus represses, in the name of "Western democracy", all forms of dissent and critique of the dominant neoliberal ideology."
Mission Statement, Centre for Research on Globalization.

Host: Alfred Webre, JD, MEd

About the Centre for Research on Globalization
The Centre for Research on Globalisation (CRG) is an independent research and media group of progressive writers, scholars and activists committed to curbing the tide of "globalisation" and "disarming" the New World Order. The CRG webpage at http://globalresearch.ca based in Montréal publishes news articles, commentary, background research and analysis on a broad range of issues, focussing on the interrelationship between social, economic, strategic, geopolitical and environmental processes.

CRG Statement
The Centre's objective is to unveil the workings of the New World Order.
War and globalization go hand in hand, leading, in the post Cold War era, to the destruction of countries and the impoverishment of hundreds of millions of people. In turn, this global economic system is marked by an unprecedented concentration of private wealth. The institutions of war, police repression and economic management interface with one another. NATO is not only in liaison with the Pentagon and the CIA, it also has contacts with the IMF and the World Bank. In turn, the Washington based international financial bureaucracy, responsible for imposing deadly "economic medicine" on developing countries has close ties to the Wall Street financial establishment.
The powers behind this system are those of the global banks and financial institutions, the military-industrial complex, the oil and energy giants, the biotech conglomerates and the powerful media and communications giants, which fabricate the news and overtly distorts the course of world events. In turn, the police apparatus represses, in the name of "Western democracy", all forms of dissent and critique of the dominant neoliberal ideology.
This "false consciousness" which pervades our societies, prevents critical debate and masks the truth. Ultimately, this false consciousness precludes a collective understanding of the workings of a World economic and political system, which destroys people's lives. The only promise of global capitalism is a World of landless farmers, shuttered factories, jobless workers and gutted social programs with "bitter economic medicine" under the WTO and the IMF constituting the only prescription. The New World Order is based on the "false consensus" of Washington and Wall Street, which ordains the "free market system" as the only possible choice on the fated road to a "global prosperity". The CRG purports to reveal the truth and disarm the falsehoods conveyed by the controlled corporate media.

United States District Court Northern District of California Wayne A. Ritchie, Plaintiff, V. United States of America, Defendant. No. C 00-03940 MHP MEMORANDUM ORDER Motion to Dismiss/ Motion for Summary Judgment "As explained in this court's July 12, 2001 Memorandum and Order, plaintiff, a former Deputy United States Marshal, alleges that he was unwittingly given food or drinks that were laced with lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) or another psychoactive drug while attending a holiday party. Following this intoxication, and after visiting several bars, plaintiff initiated an armed robbery. Plaintiff was then taken into police custody where he wrote a letter of resignation. Plaintiff alleges that he was a victim of a national federal program called "MKULTRA" for the research and development of drugs to alter human behavior. Plaintiff maintains that he "first suspected that he might have been surreptitiously drugged" when he read Dr. Stanley Gottlieb's obituary in the newspaper on March 15, 1999. Compl. ¶ 23. He found additional support for his suspicion in April 1999 when he read a diary entry of George White, an agent of the Bureau of Narcotics and allegedly the operating head of the CIA's "mind-altering program" in San Francisco." ""Defendant contends that plaintiff's claims are barred by laches. To prevail, defendant must demonstrate that plaintiff "inexcusably delayed the pursuit of [his] claim," causing prejudice. United States v. Marolf, 173 F.3d 1213, 1218 (9th Cir. 1999). For the reasons discussed above, defendant has failed to prove that plaintiff knew or should have known that his injury was caused by LSD before he read Dr. Gottlieb's obituary in March 1999. Absent this proof, the court cannot find plaintiff's delay "inexcusable." Defendant's motion is denied."

Legal rulings favor plaintiffs in church sex-abuse lawsuits Philadelphia (AP) "A statute of limitations many legal experts had expected would protect the Roman Catholic Church from lawsuits by people abused decades ago by priests is looking like less of a shield after a series of recent court decisions. Employing an unusual legal strategy, lawyers for alleged abuse victims have sought to skirt Pennsylvania's two-year time limit on personal injury lawsuits by claiming the church engaged in a decades-long conspiracy to conceal sexual abuse against minors. The extent of the cover up, the suits claim, did not become apparent until 2002, when a firestorm of publicity over the church's role in protecting abusive priests prompted the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to publicly acknowledge the problem for the first time. A three-judge panel in Lehigh County gave a preliminary nod to that strategy last week when it refused to throw out six lawsuits filed against the Diocese of Allentown by people who claimed to have been molested by priests between 1965 and 1982." http://www.poconorecord.com/local/tjd88134.htm

And Indoctrination

Harsha Sankar [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
Dear Citizen, June 2004
It is imperative certain disturbing facts and figures are analyzed to
determine why the education system is failing.
 1. China and India are producing eighteen times more scientists/engineers
than America. Yet law school graduation rates are at a all-time high numeratively.
According to credible Texas AM economist Stephen Mcgee, 900,000 out of 1.15 million
attorneys are unnecessary and each
cost the economy $2.5 million in potential GDP growth. This nation has also
experienced the growth of government personnel, federal law enforcement, and financial
capital executives.
 2. In New York schools, interpretive regulations governing suspensions are
over a hundred pages. Red tape, while lucrative for attorneys, has inflated the cost
of K-12 education to $500 billion.
 3. The field of education has become a legal minefield.61 percent of teachers
and 77 percent of administrators avoid conscientious decision-taking because of
lawsuits.
 4. While most of D.C.'s students do not possess basic math and reading
skills, the Washington Teachers Union misappropriated $5 million in teachers' dues
without anyone held to account.
 5. Feminist lawyers are attempting to collect $1 million, as they have from
Brown U.,from each college they sue to enforce Title IX, an athletic gender quota
system.
 6. Despite Goals 2000 costing taxpayers enormously, one-fourth of 12th
graders are functionally illiterate.
7.America has slipped from 1st to 18th in math and science scores in just a
quarter of a century. How can America remain a free superpower just based on that
stat alone? At this rate we will eventually achieve third world status.
 8. In 1945, the average number of words in a written vocabulary of a six to
fourteen year old was 25,000. Now that figure is 10,000.
Schools have become institutions of indoctrination and brainwashing for the
sake of conformity. Attorneys have insured that the education system cannot discipline
through compliance of fixed standards because it would be discriminatory. Teachers
and school boards are rubber stamps to state and federal policy.Higher education,
flooded with money and mandates, has experienced only the growth of power of private
organizations that control government. The populace are now reduced to dependency.
The dumbing down is a deliberate move implemented with calculated abandon by
the bar associations and its beneficiaries. A society that is the the most entertained
and yet the least informed will suffer from the confusion that sacrifices the system
based on the rule of law. A nation that cannot provide the technically proficient and
the free enterprise business people will be less likely to contest the stranglehold
of the ruling elite and their nexus with the public and private sectors. America's
current graduates are less appreciative of the foundations of American governance that
this nefarious scheme has undermined. The curriculum fom K-post grad needs to be less
diversified, particularly in the liberal arts areas. Instead the core competencies and
basics need to be re-emphasised. Americans must start thinking for themselves.
Let me control the textbooks and I will control the State

911 In Plane Site, a new movie by a website called The Power
Hour, mixes accurate material about September 11 with easily
disproved, bogus information. It is toxic to the cause of exposing
the Bush regime's complicity in 9/11, since much of it is based on
poor quality, manipulated photos and misunderstandings.
http://www.911inplanesite.com/
What is this pod attached to the bottom of Flight 175 and why is it there
What is this bright flash seen right before impact of both the North
 South Towers
Why did an eye witness report seeing no windows on Flight 175 a commercial
United Airlines jetliner
[rebuttal: poor quality, altered images are not a basis for making
new, implausible theories of 9/11 conspiracies - they only serve to
discredit the proven material that shows it was not a surprise attack
and probably was an inside job Photoshop is an amazing tool.]

If both towers are still standing, what caused this huge explosion at
the base of the WTC complex
[rebuttal: the photo that this references is actually of the
collapse of the South Tower, partially obscured by the still standing
North Tower. The billowing dust next to WTC 7 is not from a huge
explosion, it is the result of the South Tower collapse dust cloud.
This one is extremely easy to rebut.]

How does a plane 125 ft. wide 155 ft. long fit into a hole which is
only 16 ft. across
[rebuttal: the hole is about the diameter of the fuselage of the
plane. None of the no plane at the Pentagon theories

Why did firefighters, reporters and other eye witnesses describe a
pancake collapse of the WTC
[this is true -- there were eyewitnesses who definitely did think the
buildings were intentionally demolished. But the pancake theory is
not intentional demolition. See http://www.wtc7.net for a more
accurate description.]
Why is there no wreckage
or crater from Flight 77 on the lawn of the Pentagon
[rebuttal: There was lots of tiny wreckage on the lawn. The crater
was in the side of the building. Plane crashes at 400 mph into extra
reinforced concrete / steel generally don't leave large pieces of
wreckage.]
Why were there dozens of
reports of bombs explosions going off in and around the WTC before
any buildings collapsed
[There were also reports of explosions at the State Department in
Washington and other locations that turned out to have been false.]
How does a 757 exit the
Pentagon's 3rd ring leave a hole approximately 16 ft. across with
no visible wreckage
[note: this is an anomaly that is very difficult to explain. If it
really is true that the plane did go through several rings of the
Pentagon, that would be strong evidence for the
something-other-than-a-plane theory. However, there were way too
many witnesses from a variety of backgrounds who saw a large jet at
the Pentagon. The real, 100% provable fact of the Pentagon crash,
which nobody disputes, is that the Pentagon was hit in the nearly
empty, recently reconstructed and strengthened sector, which
minimized casualties. See http://www.oilempire.us/pentagon.html and
http://www.oilempire.us/remote.html for details.]

While it's blatantly obvious that 9/11 was an inside job, bogus
claims based on altered images that make no sense only discredit
factual inquiry into the event that changed the world.

New at questionsquestions.net: an analysis by Eric Salter, refuting
several widely-circulated claims about the WTC airliner impacts on
9/11. These include the claims that original video recordings of the
impacts were fabricated or altered using computer graphics, that
aircraft other than 767s struck the the towers, and even that no
planes hit the two towers, the planes supposedly being replaced by
super high-tech holographic illusions [!]. The analysis shows that
these claims, which unfortunately have been lingering around for some
time,

Father of beheaded American blasts Bush and media
30 June 2004

COUNTING THE COST: Michael Berg, whose son Nick was beheaded in Iraq,
has spoken out against the foreign troop presence in Iraq at a demonstration
in London, saying the 'horrible face of war' was being ignored.

Reuters

LONDON: The father of an American civilian beheaded in Iraq accused
President Bush and the US media of ignoring the horrible face of war
overnight.

People like George Bush and (US Defence Secretary) Donald Rumsfeld don't
see the pain that people have to bear - they don't know what it feels like
to have your guts ripped out, Michael Berg told a news conference.

The decapitated body of Berg's son Nick was found by a roadside in Baghdad
and a grisly video of his beheading was posted on an Islamist Web site in
May.

What I'm trying to do is show to the American people and the British people
... that war has a wretchedly horrible face, said Berg's father.

The elder Berg was in London to speak at a demonstration against the foreign
troop presence in Iraq, which had been scheduled to coincide with the
planned US transfer of power to the Iraqi people.

Nick Berg, 26, travelled to Iraq several times looking for work in the
reconstruction effort before going missing on April 9.

He thought he was supporting the Iraqi people and the Bush administration
by going over there, not with a gun but with his engineering tools, Michael
Berg said.

Bush and the American media have ignored the true horrors added Berg
senior, who has blamed Bush and Rumsfeld for his son's death in previous
interviews. He said he believed anti-war sentiment was now very strong in
the United States.

There are 11,000 plus Iraqi citizens that are dead and each one's family is
as affected as I was, but the American media doesn't cover these people. It
doesn't cover the people who are suffering the most.

Nick Berg was one of dozens of foreigners kidnapped in early April as US
forces launched an offensive on the restive city of Falluja, west of
Baghdad.

He was believed to have been beheaded by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, an al Qaeda
supporter.

Since his death, militants have also beheaded US hostage Paul Johnson in
Saudi Arabia and South Korean Kim Sun-il in Iraq. All three men were
videotaped wearing orange jump suits similar to those worn by prisoners in
US detention facilities like Guantanamo Bay.

This is not a game that people in Washington get to play, Michael Berg
said. It affects people the way it's affected me and my family and the
families of Paul Johnson, Kim Sun-il and the thousands of Iraqis.

Observing someone's pain just makes you think just how can they (Bush and
Blair) possibly do this. There isn't enough money in the world that could
ever make this worthwhile.

http://www.zpenergy.com/modules.php?name=Newsfile=articlesid=680U. S. DEPARTMENT OF
ENERGY TO TAKE A SECOND LOOK AT CONTROVERSIAL SUBJECTLOS
ANGELES, March 22, 2004 -- Coinciding with the U.S. Department of Energy's
decision to re-open the case on cold fusion, investigators Steven Krivit and
Nadine Winocur have released the most current work on the history and progress
of the science."The Cold Fusion Report" is based on personal
communication with more than 50 scientists from around the world, 28 of whom
Krivit interviewed on camera at the 10th International Conference on Cold Fusion
in Cambridge, Mass. As documented in the report, prominent U.S. scientists
verify the efficacy of this controversial discovery. The report
follows confirmation by U.S. Department of Energy spokeswoman Jacqueline
Johnson, as detailed in the "Upfront" section of the latest issue of New
Scientist, that the department has committed to a second review of cold fusion.
Another story, tentatively titled "DOE Warms to Cold Fusion," will be published
in the April 1 Web edition of Physics Today, at www.physicstoday.org .
The U.S. Department of Energy discussed a re-evaluation of cold fusion
on Nov. 6, 2003, when representatives from the Office of Science met with a team
of established scientists who have studied cold fusion for 15 years. The
scientists reported that cold fusion is real, with results that are robust,
verifiable and repeatable. This review is expected to evaluate the
credibility of current claims and, assuming they are verified, decide whether
government funding should be directed to cold fusion research. Although
recent experimental results are promising, their commercial viability remains
unknown. Scientists hope that new research will provide an answer to whether
cold fusion may become a future energy source. The 53-page report
includes quotes from such scientists as Dr. Melvin Miles, former senior
electrochemist of the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division at China Lake,
Calif., who, commenting on an eight-year series of U.S. Navy cold fusion
experiments, concluded, "In our opinion, these [findings] provide compelling
evidence that the [cold fusion effects] are real. This research area has the
potential to provide the human race with a nearly unlimited new source of
energy. It is possible that [cold fusion] will prove to be one of the most
important scientific discoveries of this century."It also cites a senior
member of the technical staff at the U.S. government's Sandia National
Laboratories, James Corey, who expressed at the September 2003 Energetic
Materials Intelligence Symposium that "an overdue revolution in science will
arrive, [and] the reputations of cold fusion scientists and those who revile
them may be reversed."Although 3,000 scientific papers have been written
about cold fusion, progress is underreported in the scientific and popular media
because of a rift between cold fusion researchers and the scientific
establishment, which has refused in its journals to publish articles relating to
cold fusion. In a September 2003 article, science columnist Sharon
Begley of the Wall Street Journal noted of this phenomenon, "the only thing
pathological about cold fusion is the way the scientific establishment has
treated it.""The Cold Fusion Report" includes the following
findings:o More than 150 scientists worldwide, including 60 physicists,
hold that cold fusionis a verifiable, reproducible low-temperature nuclear
reaction, free of harmful radiation and nuclear waste. o Evidence
that the effect is reproducible and has been demonstratedin many
laboratories around the world, through a variety of methods.o Citations
from five scientific papers which report correlation between excess energy
and the nuclear by-product helium-4, a key finding which verifies the

Dawn Breaks On A Sovereign Iraq But Death And Explosions Remain

BAGHDAD (AFP) -- Dawn broke over a sovereign Iraq Tuesday for the first time
since the U.S.-led invasion last year but it was business as usual for rebel
forces who apparently executed a U.S. soldier and fired mortars in Baghdad.

Following a hasty handover ceremony by the U.S.-led coalition and equally
rushed departure of its boss Paul Bremer, an interim Iraqi government was
given control of the war-torn country on Monday two days earlier than
expected, and with that the responsibility of dealing with the violence.

Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, however, will not be alone in his fight as a
strong foreign military presence of almost 150,000 mainly U.S. soldiers are
staying on in Iraq to help control the security situation.

Underscoring the tough task ahead, insurgents claimed they had executed U.S.
soldier Keith Maupin, who had been held hostage in Iraq for more than two
months.

Arab satellite news channel Al-Jazeera said early Tuesday it had received
video footage purportedly showing the hostage speaking then footage of a man
kneeling with his back to the camera in front of a ditch.

The man is then seen being shot dead, but his face is not shown, Al-Jazeera
said, adding that it was not broadcasting pictures of the killing.

The U.S. military was analyzing the tape but was unable to confirm the
claim, a spokesman in Washington said.

We're in the process of reviewing the tape. Nothing further has been
decided at this point, said army Sergeant Major Lewis Matson, a spokesman
for the U.S. Central Command.

Maupin was the first U.S. soldier to be kidnapped since the war in Iraq
began.

Two other hostages, a U.S. marine and a Pakistani have been threatened with
decapitation by their captors unless detained Iraqis are released.

In addition, three Turks are being held in a wave of kidnappings that has
swept the country in recent months, resulting in the grizzly deaths of
several foreigners.

U.S. and Iraqi officials had warned of a spike in attacks during the run-up
to the transfer of sovereignty, which had been due to take place today.

Their fears were realized with more than 300 Iraqis killed this month alone
in suicide bombings, mortar attacks and gun battles, prompting in part the
decision to move forward handover day.

But Iraq's first full day as a fully sovereign country since the collapse of
the regime of Saddam Hussein last April was marked with a series of
explosions.

Insurgents fired four mortars in the center of Baghdad at about 00:30 A.M.
(2030 GMT, Monday) near to a mosque, the U.S. military said.

There are no reports of any damage or injuries, a military spokesman said.

'Embedded Patriots'
by WILLIAM GREIDER

[from the July 12, 2004 issue]

The most intriguing story in Washington these days is a subterranean conflict
that reporters cannot cover because some of them are involved. A potent
guerrilla insurgency has formed in and around the Bush presidency--a revolt of
old pros in government who strike from the shadows with devastating effect. They
tell the truth. They explode big lies. They provide documentary evidence that
undermines popular confidence in the Commander in Chief. They prod the media and
the political community to ask penetrating questions of the Bush regime.
Doubtless, these anonymous sources act from a mixture of motives--some noble,
some self-interested--but in present circumstances one might think of them as
embedded patriots.

The business of leaks is an everyday thing in Washington and, arguably, the
government could not function without them. It is a way to communicate official
and unofficial information in a tentative fashion--nudging events in one
direction or another without the need to take responsibility for what's
communicated. Reporters participate enthusiastically in the traffic and call it
news. The process is sustained only because everyone can rely on the
journalists' mock-heroic code of omertà: Never reveal the names of your secret
sources--never--even if the revealed information turns out to be spurious.

But what has occurred during the past several months is not the normal commerce.
A series of explosive leaks--closely held documents and well-informed tips--have
altered the course of politics and might very well influence the outcome of this
year's presidential election. Yet we don't know whom to thank. Who gave the
Justice Department's torture memorandum to the Washington Post? Who provided
the International Red Cross's letter of complaints on prisoner abuses to the
Wall Street Journal? Who confirmed for the New York Times that Iyad Allawi, the
newly appointed Prime Minister of Iraq, had supervised the CIA's terrorist
bombing campaign in Baghdad a decade ago? Who informed U.S. News World Report
that Defense Secretary Rumsfeld had authorized the holding of a ghost prisoner
in violation of international law? Who--someone close to the President?--leaked
the torture memo written by White House counsel Alberto Gonzales?

We don't need to know the identities to grasp that these and other
over-the-transom communications provided forceful and well-timed
contradictions to the White House line. It is also obvious that these leaks
could not have come from the lower depths of the bureaucracy. The material is
too sensitive for wide distribution. Not to take anything away from aggressive
reporters, but the leakers clearly targeted the Post, Times and Journal to
achieve maximum impact on Washington. The messages are not from some office
crank at the Xerox machine but had to originate among sophisticated and highly
placed officers of government.

My own surmise--corroborated in conversations with several long-experienced
Washington reporters--is that we are probably talking about career military
officers and senior civil servants at the Pentagon, Justice Department lawyers
and professionals at the CIA or State Department. In practice, sensitive
documents are sometimes passed off laterally to former colleagues no longer in
government who provide them to the chosen reporters. Some risk to one's career
is required, but these are smart people who know how to cover their tracks.
Oddly enough, the brutally buttoned-down Bush White House has not invoked the
usual official whine about irresponsible leaks, perhaps because the evidence
nailed them so forcefully (and there's probably more to come). Or maybe the
White House is inhibited by the embarrassing fact that its staff faces a grand
jury investigation over leaking the identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame (even
the President has consulted his own lawyer).

Cynical readers may resist this explanation, but the motivations within the
permanent government are most likely grounded in principle and patriotism, not
narrow partisanship. Among bureaucrats, there is always a current of low-level
grumbling about the elected leadership, but career civil servants and military
rarely take such provocative countermeasures. In this Administration, the level
of disgust and alarm is more palpable because Bush has been willing to trash the
accepted norms of behavior and to cross perilous thresholds, unaware of the
dangers despite many warnings from the professionals. To people who will be in
government long after Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld have departed, the Bush crowd looks
like the worst possible combination of qualities--it is both incompetent and
ruthless.

It's a wonderful country in a way, Walter Pincus, the Post's veteran
investigative reporter, observes. People in the government community are really
concerned

[CTRL] The Jewish Divide on Israel

The Jewish Divide on Israel
by ESTHER KAPLAN

[from the July 12, 2004 issue]

For a glimpse of how Israel plays out in an American election year, recall the
day in September when then-Democratic presidential frontrunner Howard Dean told
reporters he would like to see the United States take an even-handed approach
to Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. Thirty-four Congressional Democrats
responded by sending Dean a harsh letter questioning whether he shared their
unequivocal support for Israel's right to exist, and anonymous e-mails
inundated Jewish listservs, accusing him of abandoning Israel. Dean promptly
appeared on CNN to defend Israel's assassinations of Palestinian militants.

Or consider the day in February when John Kerry sat down in New York to discuss
issues with a group of Jewish leaders hand-selected by the Conference of
Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. Hannah Rosenthal, executive
director of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs and one of the few liberals
invited, said she had her hand in the air, ready to ask questions about civil
rights, poverty and the erosion of the church/state divide, but she was avoided
by the facilitators, and the meeting shaped up as a single-agenda affair. The
central issue, no matter how they came at it, was, 'Are you going to be there
for Israel in these difficult times?' Rosenthal recalls. It was, 'We're
putting you on notice that this is our number-one concern.' Kerry took his cue.
During the meeting, he backed off from earlier statements that he'd send Jimmy
Carter (seen by the right as pro-Palestinian) to the region to jump-start
negotiations, and six weeks later, when George W. Bush, in an agreement with
Ariel Sharon, accepted Jewish settlements as permanent and renounced Palestinian
refugees' right of return, Kerry immediately endorsed it.

Or consider May 18, when the hawkish American Israel Public Affairs Committee
(AIPAC) held its annual conference in Washington. House majority leader Tom
DeLay showed up to speak, along with two assistant secretaries of state, an
assistant secretary of defense and the President himself. Bush's speech was
regularly interrupted by cheering and chants of Four more years! The meeting
of the Jewish community's most prominent voice on Capitol Hill may as well have
been a Republican political rally.

These events reveal a stubborn political fact: that AIPAC and the Conference of
Presidents, along with their powerful fellow travelers, Christian Zionists, have
forged a bipartisan consensus in Washington that Middle East policy must
privilege the special relationship between the United States and Israel. In
practice, this solid consensus means putting Israeli security before peace;
supporting even such extreme Israeli measures as the separation wall and
assassinations; and delegitimizing the Palestinian leadership. In AIPAC's view,
even Bush's unambitious Middle East road map conceded too much to the
Palestinians. Until the late 1980s, when the PLO publicly affirmed Israel's
right to exist, such positions may truly have represented the vast majority of
American Jews. But ever since the 1993 Oslo Accord proved that negotiations were
possible, surveys have consistently found that 50 to 60 percent of American Jews
favor ending the occupation and dismantling settlements in return for peace.

The trouble is, AIPAC and the Conference of Presidents never fully embraced the
Oslo thaw, and once peace talks failed in 2000, they snapped back to their
hard-line stance. The combination of Palestinian suicide bombings, the election
of Sharon, the ultimate hawk, as prime minister and Bush's with-us-or-against-us
war on terror allowed the AIPAC consensus to harden throughout the Jewish
establishment. After 9/11, United Jewish Communities, the joint Jewish charity,
decided to direct funds to Jewish settlers for the first time. And 2002 was a
banner year: At a pro-Israel rally in Washington that April, busloads of
demonstrators from Jewish social-service agencies and Hillels (the network of
Jewish campus organizations) booed Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz for
speaking about Palestinian suffering, and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and
other groups published manuals on how to discredit anti-Israel propaganda on
campuses. Arafat had a chance to move toward peace and he rejected it, says
Rabbi Eric Yoffie, the leader of the 1.5 million-strong Reform Jewish movement,
and one of mainstream Jewry's most outspoken voices against settlement
expansion. We rallied to Israel's side out of the sense that it was the right
thing to do, and out of real anger toward the Palestinians. The joke used to be
two rabbis, three congregations; over the past two or three years it's become 6
million American Jews, one official opinion.

But tens of thousands of American Jews have had a very
