Alex,

Hopsicker is a pompous drug fiend with no redeeming values. I don't
know the other guy so I can't insult him. Hopsicker has a different take
that I never quite understood on 9/11. People are so strange...

I love Yoko and her music as I did John. Such a tragic loss. I cry and
cry when I see that documentary of the two of them and I don't cry very
easily, nope. What also brings me to tears is to see Tupac in anything,
such a beautiful man..probably because I know they killed him from your
book. Oh, and Michael Hutchance, and Jimi Hendrix, such a dear, kind
unpretentious loveable guy. I better stop before I bring back up the
tears...

You have such interesting work, I envy you.

Enjoy NYC and much love to you,
D.

[CTRL] U.S. ACCUSED OF USING NAPALM IN FALLUJAH

2004-12-03 Thread flw2
-Caveat Lector-

IRAQ

U.S. ACCUSED OF USING NAPALM IN FALLUJAH
PAUL GILFEATHER, SUNDAY MIRROR, UK - US troops are secretly using
outlawed napalm gas to wipe out remaining insurgents in and around
Fallujah. News that President George W. Bush has sanctioned the use of
napalm, a deadly cocktail of polystyrene and jet fuel banned by the
United Nations in 1980, will stun governments around the world. And last
night Tony Blair was dragged into the row as furious Labour MPs demanded
he face the Commons over it. Reports claim that innocent civilians have
died in napalm attacks, which turn victims into human fireballs as the
gel bonds flames to flesh.
Outraged critics have also demanded that Mr Blair threatens to withdraw
British troops from Iraq unless the US abandons one of the world's most
reviled weapons. Halifax Labour MP Alice Mahon said: "I am calling on Mr
Blair to make an emergency statement to the Commons to explain why this
is happening. It begs the question: 'Did we know about this hideous
weapon's use in Iraq?'" Since the American assault on Fallujah there
have been reports of "melted" corpses, which appeared to have napalm
injuries.
Last August the US was forced to admit using the gas in Iraq. A 1980 UN
convention banned the use of napalm against civilians - after pictures
of a naked girl victim fleeing in Vietnam shocked the world. America,
which didn't ratify the treaty, is the only country in the world still
using the weapon.
ISLAM ON LINE, AUGUST 10 - The United States admitted dropping the
internationally-banned incendiary weapon of napalm on Iraq, despite
earlier denials by the Pentagon that the "horrible" weapon had not been
used in the three-week invasion. An upgraded type of the weapon, a
terrifying mixture of jet fuel and polystyrene that sticks to skin as it
burns, was used in March and April 2003, when dozens of napalm bombs
were dropped near bridges over the Saddam Canal and the Tigris river,
south of Baghdad, the Independent reported Sunday, August 10. "We
napalmed both those [bridge] approaches," the paper quoted Colonel James
Alles, commander of Marine Air Group 11, as saying. "Unfortunately there
were people there ... you could see them in the [cockpit] video. They
were Iraqi soldiers. It's no great way to die," said Alles.
On March 22 a correspondent for Sydney Morning Herald, traveling with
U.S. marines reported that napalm was used in an attack on Iraqi troops
at Safwan Hill, near the Kuwait border. His account was based on
statements by two U.S. marines officers on the ground.
"Safwan Hill went up in a huge fireball and the observation post was
obliterated. I pity anyone who is in there," a Marine sergeant said. The
Pentagon insisted at the time the statement was "patently false".
"The U.S. took napalm out of service in the 1970s. We completed the
destruction of our last batch of napalm on April 4, 2001, and no longer
maintain any stocks of napalm," Lieutenant-Commander Jeff Davis, from
the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Defense had said.
But a Pentagon official told Agence France-Presse on Thursday that U.S.
forces used the new type against Iraqi forces in their drive towards
Baghdad and defended their use as legal and necessary. The official, who
did not wish to be identified, said that U.S. marines jets dropped the
fire bombs at least once to destroy Iraqi positions at Safwan.
"The generals love napalm, … it has a big psychological efffect," the
paper quoted Alles as saying. Marine Corps Maj-Gen Jim Amos confirmed to
the paper that napalm was used on several occasions in the invasion. . .
The Pentagon said it had not tried to deceive. It drew a distinction
between traditional napalm, first invented in 1942, and the weapons
dropped in Iraq, which it calls Mark 77 firebombs. They weigh 510lbs,
and consist of 44lbs of polystyrene-like gel and 63 gallons of jet fuel.
John Pike, director of the military studies group Global Security, said:
"You can call it something other than napalm but it is still napalm. It
has been reformulated in the sense that they now use a different
petroleum distillate, but that is it. The U.S. is the only country that
has used napalm for a long time. I am not aware of any other country
that uses it." Musil said the Pentagon's effort to draw a distinction
between the weapons was outrageous. "It's Orwellian. They do not want
the public to know. It's a lie," he said.

ISLAM ON LINE - The United States has refuted [1] media reports that its
forces have gassed people in the western Baghdad city of Fallujah.
Such press reports are "untrue," Patricial Kabra, the Consul for Press
and Cultural Affairs in the US Embassy in Doha, Qatar, said in a letter
sent to IslamOnline.net on Wednesday, November 24. The letter came
almost two weeks after IOL published a report by the London-based

[CTRL] When Our Dollars Come Marching Home

2004-12-03 Thread flw2
-Caveat Lector-
When Our Dollars Come Marching Home
December 3, 2004
Richard Benson is president of Specialty Finance Group, LLC , offering
diversified investment banking services.
The financial and popular press has lately focused on the now obvious
problems for the dollar created from our massive budget and trade deficits.
Indeed, everyone now realizes that for the deficits to be brought into
balance, the dollar must go down. It seems that virtually every financial
pundit, though, still assumes that not only will the Asian and other foreign
central banks continue to accumulate dollar assets forever, but that “those
foreigners will never spend their dollars”. However, very little is written
about what will happen when all the dollars, built up as foreign central
bank and private holdings, get spent. Indeed, we believe that not only
will the dollars get spent, but this spending will have massive inflationary
implications for America.
Up to now, foreign central banks – particularly the Asian central banks that
currently hold over $1 trillion in dollar assets – have had every reason to
accumulate as many dollar credits, in the form of U.S. treasury securities,
as possible. Accumulating these dollar assets has cost foreign central banks
nothing as long as they have a trade surplus and can print up more of their
own currency for free and swap their free money for U.S. treasuries. Rather
than spending their dollars today, America’s trade partners are saving them
so they can be spent tomorrow. Moreover, as long as our dollars are happily
accepted by countries that produce oil, raw materials, and goods and
services they need, America’s trade partners can profit in the future in
exchange for paying nothing today, simply by running mercantilist policies!
Another perspective on what is happening is if trade flows were currently
matched, foreign countries would not be building up dollar credits; they
would be spending dollars “taken in trade today”! This dollar spending
would increase the demand for goods and services in America and raise
prices, creating inflation. The very fact that foreign countries have not
been spending their dollars now but are, instead, storing up massive dollar
credits, means there is going to be a whole lot of dollar spending in the
future. One can compare this to a huge dam filling up with dollar credits,
but look out when this “dollar dam” breaks and the pent up dollar reserves
flow out and flood America.
Sooner or later all currencies come home to their native country to be
spent, but as long as the dollar is viewed as the international reserve
currency, the process of massive credit and dollar inflation showing up is
delayed. The fact that the dollar has been the world reserve currency simply
means that the dam full of dollars has been allowed to fill up higher than
anyone could have ever imagined.
Take China as a shinning example. China has amassed over $500 billion in
dollar credits and is a developing country with 1.3 billion hungry, needy
and politically restless people. The Chinese government has built up dollar
credits temporarily, but as their citizens learn more about the good life –
which includes electricity, heat, air conditioning, two cars and meat in
their diet – the government may have to share some of its wealth with them.
Not only is it possible for the trade deficit to swing into balance if this
occurs, but all those dollar credits will get spent while they are still
worth something.
What is on China’s shopping list? Already announced are purchases of
Noranda and Husky in Canada, the large mining and energy groups, as well as
other significant investments in synthetic oil (tar sands). A major Chinese
supplier of automobile parts has been buying up rustbelt auto part suppliers
in the American Midwest. President Hu of China just came back from Latin
America and announced plans to invest over $30 billion in Argentina and
Brazil in order to build plants that are needed to extract raw materials. We
expect that China’s shopping list will continue to grow and they will start
buying up the world with America’s money!
How do our dollars finally get back home to our country? Well, if China
does buy Noranda, the Canadians can invade shopping malls south of the
border. If China also buys Latin American resources, Latin Americans can
then buy the rest of Miami. As dollars get spent and move from country to
country like a hot potato, eventually the dollars will come marching home
because a dollar will always buy something in America, even if it isn’t very
much.
The fact that dollar credits will get spent will help pressure the dollar
far more than is currently appreciated. There are reports that the average
man in China is already willing to stand in a long line at a bank to convert
dollars into the Renminbi; they have already dumped over $20 billion of U.S.
dollars this year. How many Americans do you know are willing to wait in
line to dump their dollars, other than

Sometimes my computer screws up and I don't even see messages and I delete many without opening and only read a percentage of the hundreds of email I receive each day, so I see what I see.
As you may remember, Mr. Malvo sent me a "derrogatory email concerning yourself. I did not post this to my lists but forwarded it to you as private email. You responded to the accusations. Now, I have no idea of what your motives are for your recent actions, but when I look at the situation I notice that you are making charges based on a completely wrong read and are making baseless accusations.
So far you have made no case of any factual basis and have diminshed your credibility by the use of slanted rhetoric and false charges. Ones that could have been resolved in a much different way. Why all the drama?

As he Good Lord says, "Ya know, before you go-off down the road, you should really think about it." Actions begat. And has every parent knows, children are what they are, not what you may wish them to be.

Psy-Op: Military Uses Networks to Spread Misinformation
The U.S. military is reportedly distributing misinformation to the media as part

about military operations in Iraq in an effort to deceive the Iraqi resistance.

The U.S. military is reportedly distributing misinformation to the media as part
of a campaign of psychological operations. This according to a report in the Los
Angeles Times. The paper has uncovered incidents where the military has sent
spokespersons to major news networks to deliberately lie about military
operations in Iraq in an effort to deceive the Iraqi resistance.

In one case, on Oct. 14, a Marine spokesperson appeared on CNN from Fallujah and
said "Troops crossed the line of departure." CNN was soon reporting the battle
for Fallujah had begun. In fact it wouldn't begin for another three weeks.

A senior Pentagon official told CNN that Gilbert's remarks were "technically
true but misleading." It was an attempt to get CNN "to report something not
true," the official said. The military claimed it wanted to see how Iraqi
fighters responded to the so-called news report.

Several top officials told the LA Times that they see a danger of blurring what
are supposed to be well-defined lines between the stated mission of military
public affairs and psychological and information operations. One senior defense
official told the paper "The movement of information has gone from the public
affairs world to the psychological operations world. What's at stake is the
credibility of people in uniform."

Col. Sam Gardiner, retired Air Force Colonel. He has taught strategy and
military operations at the National War College, AirWar College and Naval War
College.

RUSH TRANSCRIPT

AMY GOODMAN: We are joined on the phone by Colonel Sam Gardiner. He's a retired
Air Force colonel. He's taught strategy and military operations at National Air
War College and Naval War College. We welcome you to Democracy Now!

SAM GARDINER: Good morning, Amy.

AMY GOODMAN: Your response to this latest report?

SAM GARDINER: Well it's actually more of the same. Interesting to me that people
would pick up on this right now because it was so pervasive before and during
Gulf 2. This is just a small incident compared to what we have seen before. The
real distinction, however, is in the past, most of these falsehoods,
psychological operations, strategic communications, themes came from civilians.
This is one of the first times when a military officer has actually and visibly
crossed the line. And that's a big deal because the military is the only
profession I know where lying is a criminal offense. In the uniform code of
military justice, it is a court martial offense for an officer to tell a lie.
And frankly, this lieutenant who talked to CNN is subjected himself to
potential court martial.

AMY GOODMAN: Last night, watching FOX, the former House Speaker Newt Gingrich
basically said whatever it takes to protect our troops.

SAM GARDINER: But Amy, we are supposed to be protecting democracy. The troops
have taken an oath to protect democracy. And if we destroy democracy to protect
the troops, something's gone terribly wrong. I think--I couldn't disagree more
with Newt Gingrich. The other part of that, Amy, is as a former officer, this
just is sort of goes to my essence. And that's the notion that an officer's
word is his bond. Whether he i

Who Rules Afghanistan?
Who Rules Afghanistan
by Christian Parenti

It is noon in northern Afghanistan, Balkh province. The autumn sky is empty and
bright. A tough 60-year-old farmer named Mamood sits for an interview in the
shade of a tree. Surrounding us in all directions are fields of marijuana on
the verge of harvest. The plants are tall, thick and fragrant, their dark green
flowers glistening with potent oils.

Soon the crop will be cut, dried and beaten against linen in small rooms to
extract the resin that makes hashish. It's dirty work that falls primarily to
women and children. The rooms fill with dust; asthma is a common occupational
hazard. In a month the farmers will sow these same fields with opium poppy.
After each crop come the marauding gunmen who collect "taxes" of 20 percent on
the harvest.

"In the past few weeks they've taken money, some vehicles and kidnapped a girl,"
says Mamood. "They work for the commanders. They take whatever they want and
they will kill you if you try and stop them. When you hear 'commander' just
think 'thief' or 'murderer.' That is all they are."

Mamood is not talking about the Taliban or Al Qaeda but rather about
Afghanistan's mujahedeen warlords, or jangsalaran in Dari. These men are
America's allies, central players in the international effort to rebuild a
state in the world's third-poorest country.

These are the same men who killed 40,000-50,000 civilians during their factional
fighting in Kabul between 1992 and 1994. Under their rule chaos reigned in much
of the countryside: Militias raped, plundered and destroyed the economy. At
times there were between ten and fourteen separate currencies circulating, each
printed by a different commander. Whole villages fled; trade and agriculture
broke down. As John Sifton of Human Rights Watch puts it, "What these guys did
made Sarajevo look like kindergarten."

Now, instead of being treated as part of the problem and hunted down, the
jangsalaran are being folded into government and given new power and legitimacy
by the UN and the US-backed government of Hamid Karzai. The "commanders" now use
titles like "security chief," "governor," "minister" or even "presidential
candidate." International administrators justify the political inclusion of
these mujahedeen commanders as "the price of peace."

Indeed, a return to the open factional warfare of the early 1990s is unlikely.
But neither is Afghanistan headed toward real peace and prosperity. Instead,
this country of 20-25 million inhabitants is an embryonic narco-mafia state,
where politics rely on paramilitary networks engaged in everything from poppy
farming, heroin processing and vote rigging to extortion and the commercial
smuggling of commodities like electronics and auto parts. And while the Western
pundit class applauds the recent Afghan elections, the people here suffer
renewed exploitation at the hands of America's local partners.

Back under the tree in the marijuana fields, Mamood is joined by other farmers,
who recount a litany of depredations.

"A few weeks ago I had two motorcycles stolen," says Saja Hudin, who also lives
and farms in this rural community two hours from Mazar-i-Sharif. "I had a guest
and we were going to work some of my land near Kudbarq. Two gunmen stopped us. I
thought they were security or I would have tried to escape. They took both
motorcycles and all my money. I was holding 12,000 afghani for a cousin. One of
the men wanted to kill us, the other stopped him. Now I am in debt." Hudin says
that one of the perpetrators was the nephew of a local commander, Shafi Dewana.

"Dewana means crazy," says another man in English.

Saja Hudin reported the theft to the authorities--but in Balkh province people
like Crazy Shafi are th

Half the time we don't know what Carolyn Parrish is saying and the other
half of the time we are astonished by her political acumen.

Now as for the smart Canadians going states-side, that was a low blow,
Tucker. There are ~1,000,000 Canadian-Americans and ~1,000,000
American-Canadians.

But let's have a contest for WUF Vancouver which will be attended by
thousands of global citizens in 2006. BC has a precedent in the way of a
"city-built-anew". Bamberton, launched under the government of Premier
Harcourt, has been put on the back burner but it gives us a precedent.

So let's have a contest to design a city-built-anew for ~1,000,000 North
American citizens and we'll see who has the smarter citizens.

In America today, the price of being a real investigator doing real
investigative journalism includes being attacked regularly by
representatives of the Space Brothers, the Phony Bought Off Left,
scam artists, Ponzi schemers, and people whose heads magnetically
point to True North...to name just a few.

The reason is that there aren't supposed to BE any real
investigators in America anymore, the better to highlight breathless
revelations about the 9.11 attack by clueless theologians from
California and former "detectives" (who in truth probably couldn't
find their ass in the dark with both hands) purporting to be the
very hounds of hell on the trail of the seemingly-unshaken Dick
Cheney.

During the past several years I have been responsible for major
discoveries which include the only extant photograph of the CIA's
super-secret assassination squad Operation 40 (which features
America's current CIA Directer Porter Goss and a host of people
whose names are synonymous with America's recent secret history);
exposing the ownership by international crooks and bagmen of the
election company which counts one in every three American votes; and
the fact that Mohamed Atta's Hamburg cadre went to a flight school
whose owner's Lear jet was busted with 43 pounds of heroin aboard...

To name just a few.

It is a record unequalled in contemporary American journalism.

And, of course, it comes with a cost: the stunning revelations
in "Welcome to Terrorland," that American officials were engaged in
narcotics trafficking with Osama bin Laden's thugs before the 9.11
attack, have been assiduously avoided by the mainstream media.

But it has its compensations as well. Chief among them is knowing
that, if the measure of a man can be found by his enemies...then I
am, indeed, living large, and well.

I have no need to defend myself against people who are, as a
correspondent informed me just today, "govt inclined and owned, FBI
and... cultists."

But I do confess to a desire to inspire the enemies of truth behind
these attacks to sic on me more interesting and worthy attack dogs
than the third-and fourth-rate crackheads they have insulted me with
so far.

And I have no desire to inflict pain on anyone who believes they
are, or have been, "subjected to a gruelling daily regimen of
torture rendered from a remote source," and "once witnessed magnets
repelled from my cranium."

I am by nature a kindly person, who believes that when someone tells
me "Have a nice day," they really mean it; and that "Love Animals
Don't Eat Them" truly represents the accumulated wisdom of our race.

So I magnanimously offer here the result of a 30-second search on
Lexis-Nexis: a press release from Medialink and NBC (I had nothing
to do with it, and had never, in fact, known of its existence until
moments ago) about a long-and-probably justly forgotten business
show I used to do which has of late become, for some poor souls, of
consuming interest.

And since I should be open to the idea that I may have something to
learn from people who make their living stealing money from widows
and orphans, should anyone find my previous career as a business and
industrial producer to be even MORE endlessly fascinating than they
do already... I will endeavor to have my former television
distributor dig through ten-year old records for receipts of checks
from NBC (for a nominal search fee of just $10,000, which is more
than fair, since I'll no doubt have to split the money with the
distributor to entice them to dig through old records.)

Anyone interested should contact me soonest. (Being a real
muckraker, as opposed to a Phony Dissident, is not particularly
financially rewarding, and I could use the money as a Christmas
stocking-stuffer.)

http://talk.workunlimited.co.uk/ukraine/story/0,15569,1362616,00.html PR man to Europe's nastiest regimes David AaronovitchTuesday November 30, 2004The Guardian Whenever, as this past week, eastern Europe is on the news, so too is a man called John Laughland. Last Sunday he was playing Ukrainian expert on the BBC's The World This Weekend, the day before he was here in the Guardian defending the Ukrainian election "result", and at the beginning of the month he was writing for the Spectator - also on Ukraine. Laughland's great strength is that he sees what no one else in the west seems to. Where reporters in Kiev, including the Guardian's own Nick Paton-Walsh, encounter a genuine democracy movement, Laughland comes across "neo-Nazis" (Guardian), or "druggy skinheads from Lvov" (Spectator). And where most observers report serious and specific instances of electoral fraud and malpractice on the part of the supporters of the current prime minister, Laughland complains only of a systematic bias against (the presumably innocent) Mr Yanukovich. A quick trawl establishes this to be the Laughland pattern over the past few years and concerning several countries. Laughland has variously queried the idea that human rights are a problem in Belarus, or that the Serbs behaved so very savagely in Kosovo. He has defended Slobodan Milosevic, criticised the International Tribunal in the Hag
ue and generally argued that the problem in countries normally associated with human rights abuses is, in fact, the intervention of western agencies. It was the British Helsinki Human Rights Group hat that he was wearing last Sunday. On its website the BHHRG - of which Laughland is a trustee - describes itself as a non-governmental organisation which monitors human rights in the 57 member states of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe. Laughland is listed as a trustee, the historian Mark Almond (to be found writing about the Ukraine in last week's New Statesman) is its chairman. Founded in 1992, the BHHRG sends observers to elections and writes reports which - along Laughlandish lines - almost invariably dispute the accounts given by better known human rights organisations. This stance has led to the BHHRG being criticised by the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights (established in 1976) as preferring "the role [is to take] PR flak for a new breed of authoritarian rulers in Europe" to the business of actually monitoring abuses. So what on earth is going on here? I know nothing about BHHRG's finances, but the ideological trail is fascinating. Take the co-founder of the group, Christine Stone. She was a lawyer before she helped set up BHHRG. Since then she has "written for a number of publications including the Spectator and Wall Street Journal on eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union". This information comes from a US website called Antiwar.com where, for a while, Stone had a regular Thursday column. But Antiwar.com was not a leftwing site opposing the Iraq war. It was a rightwing site set up to oppose the Kosovo intervention in 1999. Its "editorial director" was a man called Justin Raimondo who was active in the small US Libertarian party before joining the Republican party. In the 1992, 1996 and 2000 elect
ions he supported the campaigns of Pat Buchanan, the far-right isolationist candidate. Raimondo is also an "adjunct scholar" with the Ludwig von Mises Institute. This is a libertarian think-tank in Auburn, Alabama, founded by one Lew Rockwell, who describes himself as "an opponent of the central state, its wars and its socialism". A contributor to Rockwell's own site is Daniel McAdams, who is - in his own words "honoured to be associated" with the British Helsinki Human Rights Group. Trail 2. Lau

Lawyer in OH Recount Suit: We Have Evidence of Fraud
by LawStudent
Thu Dec 2nd, 2004 at 19:08:01 PST

... there was a pretty lengthy interview on C-Span today with Cliff
Arnebeck, an attorney for Alliance for Democracy, who is going to file a
suit tomorrow in Ohio challenging the election result.  This is different
from demanding a recount.  This organization is actually saying it
believes--BASED ON EVIDENCE--that the election result is INCORRECT.

Mr. Arnebeck said they have evidence that shows the election result was
actually the opposite of what's been reported.  He says that Kerry won 51%
of the vote in OH, and he seems to claim he can prove it.

I have no idea about the validity of this claim, but I can say this is the
first time I've heard a lawyer involved in this fracas saying they have
evidence of fraud.

Listen to it yourself and tell me what you think.  Go to www.cspan.org

Washington Journal Entire Program

--

Here's a transcript of the relevant parts... (4.00 / 6)

"The only logical explanation is that there was a movement of some 65,000
votes or so that were cast for Kerry into the Bush column. Which created a
margin that is approximately the total margin by which Bush was reported to
have won Ohio. So our current view of the evidence is that this is where
the fix occurred.

"There were a variety of other problems in the election. There was the
suppression of black voters in Franklin Co. by shorting machines in black
and high Democratic performance districts. There was what we would call a
precinct shuffle in Summit Co. and Cuyahuga Co. where a deliberate
confusion was created about where people could vote. They cast their
provisional ballots...there were election officials were telling them that
they could vote in any precinct of the county and it would be counted. And
then you've got Blackwell saying they won't be counted.

"Our present feeling is that this is, while a serious conspiracy to violate

the civil rights of a protected class of voters namely those of the black

race, that this is not where the real fix occurred. This is something we

will discuss in the lawsuit, but we intend to focus very, to hone in very
aggressively in full tilt litigation with full discovery on what we believe
is the fraud that occurred in the southern part of the state with the shift
of votes.

"Look at the two races. In effect the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court
race is a benchmark race for the presidential race because both of these
races were competitive, they were running neck and neck. All right so this
gives you a basis to say "all right what happened in this situation and how
does it relate to the other, the benchmark." Now a more ingenious approach
might have been if you're going to do this you should have made the

adjustment also in the Supreme Court race too, so this wouldn't stand out.
This stands out like a sore thumb.

I think what happened is, all this civil rights violation was a red herring
intended to stimulate the public interest groups and civil rights
organizations to hone in on this, on this horrendous, horrendous attack on
the rights of black voters. They thought that's what we would go after, the
clock would run out, we wouldn't be able to prove our case. The real fraud
occurred in this switching of votes in southern Ohio. That's our present

 view of the evidence."

they think. I addressed this topic with the wonderfully knowledgeable
George Washington University Constitutional Law professor, Jonathan Turley,
back on Countdown on November 9th. He noted the election process is a
little slower-- and has one more major loophole-- than is generally known.
It begins on December 7th, the date "when you essentially certify your

Consider taking a few minutes to send a few email
and/or calls to preserve democracy: THIS IS OUR LAST CHANCE!   Please
post and  FORWARD this to all who care about making every vote count!
Thanks, Cheryl

In this post(1) Update: Kerry joins lawsuit to
protect recount with Greens.  Obstacles to real, thorough recount to count
every vote (and which could potentially change election results).

(2)New Kerry Action from Insider Legal Source: to
increase legal standing to defend and expedite recount he must ask for HIS OWN
recount since Green effort to expedite recount failed due to lack of "harm"
suffered if recount was inadequate

(3)New Blackwell Action:There is new effort to
write AGAIN and call Fri and Mon even if your've done it before: it's now or
never!

(4)How you can volunteer for recount and share
transportation and housing info

(5)Help the law firm that is making all of this
possible

***you can also find all these actions and more
at http://stolenelection2004.com/alerts.html   Update:
While Kerry is publicly defending the Green recount, inside legal sources tell
me he may not have enough legal standing to defend and expedite the recount
unless he directly asks for a recount himself instead of just helping the Greens
in their recount.

Meanwhile Blackwell has dragged his feet and won't
certify until the 6th even though the counties have reported its vote totals on
the 1st. After the certification, there are two big obstacles to a real thorough
manual count.  First on the 7th, Blackwell is scheduled to send in
the results of the certification and choose electors who would choose Bush for
president to represent Ohio.  What this means is that there would be a
slate of Bush electors from Ohio and if enough legal votes are found for Kerry,
there would either have to be a Congressional challenge and Congress would have
to vote on whether to replace the Kerry electors with the Bush electors or the
Bush electors would have to switch to Kerry, which is possible but rarely
happens.

As a result, it would be best if Ohio did not
recognize this "safe harbor" date which many states ignore and is not supposed
to be recognized when an election is being challenged anyway (although that is a
matter of interpretation). Second, under Ohio law, the parties have
5 days to decide to join the recount, so the recount cannot start until
then--unless all parties--including the Republicans--waive it!  There is a
legal hearing on Fri, the 3rd to try to stop these two things in order to
facilitate the recount that but it might fail.   The inside
legal source who has been giving me great info said clearly,"the only recourse
is public pressure!"  That's where you come in. From the
information I have gathered from inside legal sources, the key things to do
are (1) Call/Write  Kerry Campaign and say,"Legal sources say
in order to have enough legal standing to defend and expedite recount Kerry must
ask directly for a recount instead of just helping the Greens in their
recount.  I also urge Kerry to do so.  In addition, the
Kerry, the  DNC, and GAO must actively investigate vote fraud in the
election ASAP!"  You can send Kerry, DNC, and GAO a quick message
here  Note: While this page says something a little different the sample
letter above is using information which is up to date and has been confirmed by
legal insiders.http://www.thepen.us/e-fraud.html

Mystery envelope may hold key to father's doorstep shooting

JOHN ROSS
Key points• Bank
manager Alistair Wilson, 30, was shot after opening door to a stranger•
Police confirm that he was handed mystery envelope shortly before murder•
Northern Constabulary still to establish motive for murderKey
quote "We have still not established a motive. I don’t know why
Alistair was killed. We are scrutinising closely the scenario that presents
itself and enlisting the assistance of experts to analyse that type of
thing." - PETER MCPHEE, NORTHERN CONSTABULARYStory in
full THE contents of an envelope handed to banker Alistair Wilson
before he was gunned down on his doorstep could hold the key to his murder.
Police say they have not yet established a motive for the shooting of
the father of two who was killed - hitman-style - by a lone gunman using an
automatic handgun. Special investigators are examining the financial
dealings of Mr Wilson, 30, a new-business manager with the Bank of Scotland in
Inverness, and say he may have been the victim of a business grudge.
Officers are also looking at the strange sequence of events which led up
to Mr Wilson’s death outside his home in Crescent Road on Sunday evening shortly
after he and his wife put their sons, aged four and two, to bed.
Detective Chief Inspector Peter MacPhee of Northern Constabulary said
the gunman, wearing a dark blouson jacket and dark baseball cap, first spoke to
Mr Wilson’s wife, Veronica, and asked for her husband by name. That appears to
have ruled out a case of mistaken identity. When Mr Wilson came to the
door he was handed the envelope, blue or green in colour, and returned inside
for a short time and spoke to his wife before returning to the door and his
uninvited caller. Shortly afterwards he was shot twice in the head and once in
the body. The gunman, described as stocky, clean-shaven and aged 35-40,
then made off towards the Links area in the town and the envelope has not been
found. It is believed he took it with him. Mr MacPhee said the envelope
was not opened by Mr or Mrs Wilson and its contents were unknown.
However, it could be vital to solving the case, with questions about
whether it contained money, or a demand for money, other information or
documents relating to Mr Wilson’s professional career. He was due to
finish working for the Bank of Scotland this Friday, before going into business
on his own. Mr MacPhee would say only: "We don’t know why [Mr Wilson]
came back into the house with the envelope or why he went back out.
"There was a conversation between Alistair and Veronica when he first
came back into the house, details of which I can’t disclose just now.
"But he then took the decision to go back outside and while he was
outside Veronica heard three bangs and found him injured on the doorstep."
He said Mrs Wilson did not recognise the gunman and it appeared that her
husband did not either. However, a high priority is being given to his
business connections to see if they can throw up any clue to the killing. "It
will form a significant part of our investigations," said Mr MacPhee. He
added: "We have still not established a motive. I don’t know why Alistair was
killed. We are scrutinising closely the scenario that presents itself and
enlisting the assistance of experts to analyse that type of thing."
Detective Superintendent Gordon Urquhart, head of the force’s CID, again
appealed for help in solving the killing: "Anything and everything that people
can give us might help to solve this terrible crime. Anything that they know
about Mr Wilson, any antagonism towards him, whatever. "We are going to
be taking Mr Wilson’s life to bits to be honest and looking into his background
and his work." As the hunt for the gunman went on

Financier killed as
he confronts burglars KAREN MCVEIGH

A WEALTHY and highly respected City
of London financier was stabbed to death and his wife was left seriously
injured after two knife-wielding intruders burst into their multi-million pound
townhouse in Chelsea. John Monckton’s family were "profoundly shocked"
by the murder and described him as an "incredibly gentle and thoughtful man".
The couple’s nine-year-old daughter, Isobel, alerted emergency services
after finding her parents fighting for their lives after the incident on Monday
night. Detectives believe it could have been an attempted burglary, but were
keeping an open mind on the motive for the attack. Yesterday, shocked
residents of the exclusive and close-knit area, where actors, rock stars and the
aristocracy live next to leading lawyers and businessmen, spoke of a spate of
burglaries, robberies and assaults in recent years. Mr Monckton, 49,
died in hospital shortly after the attack. His wife, Homeyra, 45, who was also
stabbed, was in a stable condition at St Thomas’ Hospital last night after
undergoing "significant surgery" for her injuries. She is not expected to be
discharged for a week. The couple’s other daughter, Sabrina, 12, was at her
boarding school, St Mary’s Ascot, at the time of the murder. She travelled to be
with her mother and sister yesterday. A respected director with
financial giant Legal and General and a leading City authority on the corporate
bond market, Mr Monckton was also well-known for his deeply held religious
beliefs and charitable work. The cousin of Rosa Monckton, a close friend of the
late Princess Diana and wife of Dominic Lawson, the Sunday Telegraph editor, Mr
Monckton came from a well-established Catholic family and was active in the
Knights of Malta charity, which helps the poor. Police were called to
the Moncktons’ home, in Upper Cheyne Row, near Albert Bridge, at around 7:35pm
on Monday. Detective Superintendent Mark Jackson said it was too early
to establish a motive, but Mr Monckton’s business affairs and the possibility of
burglary were "key lines of inquiry". He added: "The early indications
are that two males forced entry into the premises and that is when the offences
occurred, and they then decamped from the scene. A murder inquiry has now
commenced." Police are looking at CCTV footage as well as doing forensic
tests at the scene and making door-to-door inquiries. Several witnesses have
come forward; the suspects were seen fleeing down Glebe Place and on towards the
King’s Road. Yesterday, many residents of Upper Cheyne Row, a tranquil,
residential street full of Grade II listed homes, now sealed off by police tape,
said they were "saddened and shocked" by the news. The Moncktons’ close
neighbours include Rolling Stones bass player Bill Wyman, the Marquess of
Blandford and several leading financiers. Canon Michael Brockie, of Our
Most Holy Redeemer of Saint Thomas More Church opposite the Moncktons’ home, was
with Mr Monckton when he died and comforted his wife yesterday. He said she was
recovering well. Canon Brockie described the family as "very close-knit,
very dedicated to one another, very private." He said that Mr Monckton, who was
on the church’s finance committee, was a "wonderful father and husband" and his
death was a "great personal loss, both to me and the parish". The
Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, also paid tribute to
Mr Monckton, a relative of Lord Monckton, the late owner of Catholic newspaper,
the Universe. He said he was horrified by news of the murder of "an exceptional
and faithful man". Canon B

Jail the War Party For treason

by Justin Raimondo

It was very obviously a well-planned operation, executed with military precision: the FBI moved in on a nondescript office building near the Capitol, Wednesday morning, arriving at 10, and staying until past 4. p.m. According to one source, "this was a massive raid – the FBI surrounded" the place and carted away a load of evidence. "This is no joke," the source told journalist Laura Rozen.
Another raid on an Islamic charity with alleged ties to terrorists? A drug bust? A hit on a child porn ring? No, none of the above: instead, the G-men's target was the Washington headquarters of what Fortune magazine has rated the second most powerful lobbying outfit in the nation's capital: the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
This will make the second time this year that the feds have come knocking on AIPAC's door: the first was in late summer, when the Larry Franklin case first surfaced and was trumpeted on major news media outlets, including CBS. Franklin, mid-level Pentagon official, had been caught red-handed supplying Israeli government officials with classified information via two AIPAC officials, Steven Rosen and Keith Weissman. As the story began to come out, it became apparent that Franklin was just a small fish in a much larger aquarium, and had been scooped up in this web of intrigue almost by accident. As Laura Rozen and Jason Vest relate in The American Prospect:
"In late July, as this debate raged, a Pentagon analyst named Larry Franklin telephoned an acquaintance who worked at a pro-Israel lobbying group, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC)."
Franklin, who works in the policy shop run by the neocons' man on the ground, Douglas Feith, told his AIPAC friend that he was worried about U.S. government inaction in the face of alleged attempts by Iran to penetrate southern Iraq and counter growing Israeli influence in Kurdistan. A meeting was arranged. A few weeks later, as Rosen and Vest report, FBI agents showed up at the door of Franklin's friend, asking about the Iran analyst in what seemed like a routine background check.
In truth, the agents were interested in far more than Franklin: the FBI's counterintelligence unit had been eavesdropping on AIPAC for over two years, in what appears to be a wide-ranging and rapidly developing investigation into Israeli penetration of U.S. government agencies. Franklin had been swept up in a massive and ongoing counterintelligence operation aimed at a cabal of high-level Israeli moles.
The Franklin affair was leaked to the media, and the FBI, which had been hoping to catch bigger fish than a mid-level analyst, was forced into action: they raided AIPAC's headquarters, copied computer disks belong to Rosen and Weissman, and conducted interviews with a number of employees. Rosen and Weissman soon stopped answering questions, however, and demanded legal counsel.
The story gathered headlines for a few days, and then disappeared off the radar screen as quickly and mysteriously as it had appeared – until now. In this latest raid, the feds not only carried away bales of evidence, but they also came bearing gifts: four subpoenas summoning AIPAC's executive director, Howard Kohr, managing director Richard Fishman, research director Raphael Danziger, and Renee Rothstein, the group's communications director, to testify before a grand jury. The investigation, formerly conducted by FBI counterintelligence czar David W. Szady, was transferred to the jurisdiction of U.S. attorney Paul J. McNulty, in Alexandria, Virginia: the Financial Times reported, just before the presidential election, that agents were being told to turn down the heat. But the heat is on again, and there is every prospect that it will get much hotter for AIPAC and Israel's amen corner in the U.S. even as the winter cold sets in.
The simple reason for a sudden change in the weather is that, as one official put it, "This is no joke." What is involved here is nothing less than treason – a spy ring far more sophisticated and dangerous to U.S. national security than the infamous Jonathan Pollard espionage operation conducted by Israel in the 1980s. The AIPAC spy scandal goes way beyond Franklin, as the Washington Post reported back in the beginning of September:
"The FBI probe is actually much broader, according to senior U.S. officials, and has been underway for at least two years. Several sources familiar with the case say the probe now extends to other Pentagon personnel who have a particular interest in assisting both Israel and Chalabi, the former Iraqi dissident who was long a Pentagon favorite but who has fallen out of favor with the U.S. government."
Post reporters Robin Wright and Thomas E. Ricks identified "at least two common threads" in this complex and multi-pronged investigation:
"First, the FBI is investigating whether the same people passe
