Infuriating Story - Drug War Casualties

This story made me so mad to think that an innocent person, much less
anybody, was treated this way:

Source: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,53470,00.html

Samantha Monroe was 12 years old in 1981 when her parents enrolled her in
the Sarasota, Fla., branch of Straight Inc., an aggressive drub rehab center
for teens.

Barely a teen, Samantha also had no history of drug abuse. But she spent the
next two years of her life surviving Straight.

She was beaten, starved and denied toilet privileges for days on end. She
describes her "humble pants," a punishment that forced her to wear the same
pants for six weeks at a time. Because she was allowed just one shower a
week, the pants often filled with feces, urine and menstrual blood. Often
she was confined to her closet for days. She gnawed through her jaw during
those "timeout" sessions, hoping she'd bleed to death.

She says that after she was raped by a male counselor, "the wonderful state
of Florida paid for and forced me to have an abortion."

There are hundreds of Straight stories like Samantha's. Wes Fager enrolled
his son in a Springfield, Va., chapter of Straight on the advice of a high
school guidance counselor. Fager didn't see his son again until three months
later — after he'd escaped and developed severe mental illness.

Since then, Fager's set out to clear the air on Straight. He has accumulated
stories like Samantha's and his son's on a clearinghouse Web site. They are
stories of suicides and attempted suicides, rapes, forced abortions,
molestations, physical abuse, lawsuits, court testimonies, and extensive
documentation of profound psychological abuse at Straight chapters all over
the country.

Yet, the Straight model of drug treatment is thriving, with the trend toward
"boot camp" style rehab centers growing more and more en vogue and
Straight's founders, high-powered Republican boosters Mel and Betty Sembler,
wielding enormous influence over U.S. drug policy.

Mel Sembler is currently serving as President Bush's ambassador to Italy,
and the Semblers serve on the boards of almost every major domestic
anti-drug program. They are longtime close associates of the Bush family,
and are behind efforts to defeat medicinal marijuana initiatives all over
the country. Despite the horrors that have surfaced about Straight's
history, they are proud and unrepentant about the program.

With more and more U.S. states turning to mandatory treatment instead of
incarceration for minor drug offenses — with Mel and Betty Sembler
continuing to flex political muscle in the power corridors of the drug war —
the story of Straight is one worth hearing.

Straight was spun off of a rehab program called The Seed based on the
"synanon" method of treatment. Established in 1972, the program lost its
funding after a congressional investigation turned up evidence of
brainwashing and cult-like mind control tactics. But a Florida congressman
named Bill Young persisted. He found advocates in the Semblers and persuaded
them to start a similar rehab center in St. Petersburg, which they called
"Straight Incorporated."

Despite allegations of abuse from escaped members and pending lawsuits, over
the next 15 years Straight won laudatory praise in Republican circles.
Luminaries from Nancy Reagan to Princess Diana visited Straight branches and
touted their successes (though by most estimates only about 25 percent of
Straight "clients" ever completed the program).

But Straight's tactics soon caught up to it in the courts. A college student
won a false imprisonment claim of $220,000 in 1983, and another claim cost
Straight $721,000 in 1990. A Straight spin-off called Kids of North Jersey
lost a $4.5 million claim in 2000. Straight chapters across the country
began to shut down, culminating with the last branch in Atlanta closing in
1993.

But the Straight philosophy was far from finished. Many chapters and
directors reopened new clinics that employed the same tactics under
different names — such as KIDS, Growing Together and SAFE. Florida Gov. Jeb
Bush visited and praised SAFE, despite the fact that a Miami television
station reported widespread Straight-like abuse at the facility in a 2000
expose.

Amidst mounting lawsuit losses and bad publicity throughout the 1990's, the
umbrella organization Straight Inc. changed its name in 1996 to the Drug
Free America Foundation. DFAF thrives today — receiving $400,000 in federal
subsidies in 2000 and $320,000 from the Small Business Administration.

"It amazes me that despite the pattern of complaints and abuse allegations,
Straight chapters can simply change their names and continue to operate,"
says Rick Ross, a cult expert and intervention specialist. Ross says there's
an unfortunate market for "rehab" centers that take burdensome children off
the hands of troubled parents.

Most troubling, however, is the considerable and continuing political clout
of Straight Inc.'s founders. For

[CTRL] Research and Drugs How Investigators are Influenced

2002-05-24 Thread Damaeus

-Caveat Lector-

http://www.mercola.com/2000/may/21/research_and_drugs.htm

Drug companies that pay for research and clinical tests of new medicines
have been suppressing or manipulating the results. The prestigious,
peer-reviewed Journal also warned the likelihood that drug test results will
be manipulated or suppressed is even greater when for-profit companies set
up specifically to test drugs conduct the trials.

The findings and the drug studies, along with a sharply worded editorial
where Dr. Marcia Angell raises the question "Is Academic Medicine For Sale?"
appears one week after the Journal's publisher, the Massachusetts Medical
Society, announced it would replace her as editor with a prominent asthma
researcher who has strong ties to the drug industry.

This report comes at a time when "academic medical centers are no longer the
sole citadels of clinical research and the industry is wielding more power
in conducting large-scale drug tests. Six of the 12 investigators
interviewed cited cases of articles whose publication was stopped or whose
content was altered by the funding company. The companies are not
identified.

In one instance, a drug maker delayed publication of a study's results by
requesting changes to the manuscript to make the product look better.
During the delay, the company secretly wrote a competing article on the same
topic, which was favorable to the company's viewpoint.

Another investigator found that a drug he was studying caused adverse
reactions. He sent his manuscript to the sponsoring company for review.
The company vowed never to fund his work again and published a competing
article with scant mention of the adverse effects.

The New England Journal of Medicine -- May 18, 2000 -- Vol. 342, No. 20

The following is the full article that appears in this week's New England
Journal:

Uneasy Alliance -- Clinical Investigators and the Pharmaceutical Industry

Thomas Bodenheimer

Clinical practice is changing rapidly. New cardiovascular drugs,
antiinflammatory drugs, cancer chemotherapy, and other pharmacologic weapons
are being added to physicians' therapeutic armamentarium virtually daily.
Most clinical studies that bring new drugs from bench to bedside are
financed by pharmaceutical companies. Many of these drug trials are
rigorously designed, employing the skills of outstanding clinical
researchers at leading academic institutions.

But academic medical centers are no longer the sole citadels of clinical
research. The past 10 years have seen the spectacular growth of a new
research model. Commercially oriented networks of contract-research
organizations (CROs) and site-management organizations (SMOs) have altered
the drug-trial landscape, forcing academic medical centers to rethink their
participation in industry-funded drug research.

The infusion of industry dollars into an industry-investigator partnership
has clearly improved clinical practice. Yet the medical literature contains
many articles expressing concern about industrial funding of clinical
research. Stelfox et al. found that authors whose work supported the
safety of calcium-channel antagonists had a higher frequency of financial
relationships with the drugs' manufacturers than authors whose work did not
support the safety of these medications. (1) Davidson reported that results
favoring a new therapy over a traditional one were more likely if the study
was funded by the new therapy's manufacturer. (2) Cho and Bero demonstrated
that articles from symposiums sponsored by a single drug company were more
likely than articles without company support to have outcomes favorable to
the sponsor's drugs. (3) Friedberg et al. reported that 5 percent of
industry-sponsored pharmacoeconomic studies of cancer drugs reached
unfavorable conclusions about the company's products, as compared with 38
percent of studies with nonprofit funding that reached similar conclusions.
(4)

How much influence does industry have over the work and products of the
research community? Can practicing physicians trust the information they
receive about the medications they are prescribing? Does the shift from the
academic to the commercial research sector give industry too much control
over clinical drug trials?

In this report, I discuss some of the problems raised by
pharmaceutical-industry funding of drug trials, problems that may deepen as
trials are increasingly conducted by commercial organizations. I
interviewed 39 participants in the process: 6 pharmaceutical executives, 12
clinical investigators, 9 people from university research offices, 2
physicians with CROs, 8 people who have studied the process of clinical drug
trials, and 2 professional medical writers. Each interview consisted of
standard questions plus an opportunity for the interviewees to discuss the
industry-investigator relationship in a general way. Several interviewees
preferred not to allow the use of their names in the article.

Not as low as they would be under legalization. Under legalization, even
being taxed, I imagine a quarter ounce of pot would sell for around $5.00.
Right now it sells for anywhere from $25 to $75. Maybe even more in some
areas.

Yeah, that, too. They buy drugs, sell them, confiscate them along with
dealer money and assets, sell them again, confiscate them again with even
more dealer money and assets, sell them yet again, etc If there is a
reason the USA goes to such ridiculous lengths to keep marijuana illegal, it
has to be because they make so much money off civil asset forfeiture that
making drugs legal would severely cut their funding, not because of taxpayer
funding.

All this could be a conspiracy being built. If they can't find Usama,
they'll just pull out the old renal story and claim that he's dead, then
just hope he doesn't pop up someplace. Then again, that would be foolish
because if he does pop up somewhere, then the USA would look very foolish.
Oh...they already look foolish. Oh well.

I'm not particularly interested in cocaine unless I get a sore throat. Lick
some cocaine up and your whole mouth will go numb instantly. It would make

He shouldn't be scared since he's going to a wonderous paradise when he
dies—the same one Hitler went to when he died.

So in other words, you're mad that you played a role in possibly saving the
world from a fascist dictator, and you would have rather seen only Americans
take on the task of protecting the rest of the world. Funny how so much of
the world sees America as an imperial dictatorship, and when we try to

friend of war, but I certainly don't want some asshole like bin Laden coming
over here and telling me exactly how to live my life. We have enough of that
going on in Amerika as it is. But as bad as Amerika is now, I'd rather live
here the way it is now than to live here after someone like Usama bin Laden
takes power. Hopefully if someone like bin Laden is ever elected president,
one of those psychotic people in the counrtry will do us all a favor and

Maybe we should stop all this and see what happens. Maybe we should all erect
a giant statue of bin Laden's phallus and let it flow with a fountain of Karo

Re: [CTRL] Homosexuals help syphilis comeback/stuns officials

2001-11-30 Thread Damaeus
public mind that was already morally unprincipled, Romans 3:10
through 12:

ROMANS 3 - [10] As it is written, There is none
righteous, no, not one: [11] There is none that
understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
[12] They are all gone out of the way, they are
together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth
 good, no, not one.

So God wasn't giving "straight people" permission to judge. God was
simply noticing what was true and accepting it--accepting the fact that
the world consists of all the types of people described in verses 29
through 32:

Romans 1:29-32 - [29] Being filled with all
 unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness,
maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit,
malignity; whisperers, [30] Backbiters, haters of God,
despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things,
disobedient to parents, [31] Without understanding,
 covenantbreakers, without natural affection,
implacable, unmerciful: [32] Who knowing the judgment
of God, that they which commit such things are worthy
of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in
 them that do them.

And Romans goes on to say:

Romans 2 - [1] Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man,
whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou
judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that
judgest doest the same things. [2] But we are sure
that the judgment of God is according to truth against
them which commit such things. [3] And thinkest thou
this, O man, that judgest them which do such things,
and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment
 of God?

So a man who is gay is judged by a murderer, who is judged by a backbiter,
who is judged by a boaster, who is judged by the unmerciful, who is judged
by a hater of God, who is judged by a gossiper, who is judged by the
haughty, who is judged by the deceitful. Is any one person better than
the other? Does any one have the right to judge another when we're all
part of the same reprobate mind? I can answer that one by requoting
something from above:

ROMANS 3 - [10] As it is written, There is none
righteous, no, not one: [11] There is none that
understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
[12] They are all gone out of the way, they are
together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth
 good, no, not one.

Well, compression is always a nice thing. Given the time duration of the
file and the wonderful MPEG format, that file probably could have been
reduced to about 350k or less.

Surely the card is not required. Tom Thumb has a card system, but they
are not required to shop there. You simply get more "sale items" than
people who do not have the card.

Wal-Mart opened its 1,000th supercenter in August of 2001, not counting
their ~1,700 regular Wal-Mart stores. Counting the Sam's, Wal-Mart,
Supercenters, and Neighborhood Markets, they have 3,500 locations in the
United States alone. Add the 1,000 international locations and that
brings them up to 4,500 locations and over one million employees. They do
191 billion per year in sales. They're planning to open another 180-185
supercenters in 2003, plus more Sam's and regular Wal-Marts.

I would assume the same goes for drinking & driving and eating and
driving. Yeah, people have had wrecks with half a Big Mac in their hand
with the rest stuffed into their faces. Oh, also the costs of imprisoning
all the drug users costs 7 times more than just making enough treatment
programs available, yet no one seems to complain about the costs of
throwing them in the slammer.

Basically the point I'm making is that, as I suspected, the kind of
freedom Amerika offers is freedom of "free enterprise", at least until
you're so successful that you have a monopoly. But even though a monopoly
isn't illegal, the FTC sure does nitpick at companies who have a
significant market share. But aside from all that, recreational drugs are
illegal everywhere, prostitution is illegal almost everywhere, and
hardcore porno is illegal in certain communities around the country, even
when viewed in the privacy of your own home. What kind of freedom are we
defending when we go to war? Certainly the freedom we have now is better
than what Usama bin Laden's vision of a perfect world.

But my gosh... 1.6 million drug arrests? National law enforcement budgets
are $130 billion per year. $60 billion goes toward the drug war. Office
of National Drug Control Policy gets 19.5 billion per year. That's 79.5
billion per year for the drug war. With 1.6 million arrests, that's
$49,687 per arrest. Seems like a waste to me, not to mention the fact
that even more than that is probably going to the terrorists. The costs
would be dropped so much by ending prohibition and diverting the money to
"legitimate" companies. Yeah, it's still blatant capitalism, but at least
the burden on the tax payer is lessened drastically. I mean, imagine what
kinds of advances we could make if all the money spent on fighting drugs
and

[CTRL] Disgusting TV Ad Glorifying the Almighty Dollar

2001-10-25 Thread Damaeus

-Caveat Lector-

Anybody seen the NYSE ad on Fox News Channel lately that glorifies money?

This is a disgusting ad. It actually glorifies the almighty dollar. I
think the ad is one step away from ending with a glowing, golden $ right
in the middle of the screen with a light from Heaven shining on it. I'm
not saying that ALL Americans worship money, but this ad sure does try to
draw up love for it. Have a looksie.

It's been playing on Fox News Channel.

If anybody's interested, do have another MPEG file with a higher quality
sound and video, but it has the same physical dimensions.

If you want to see it, I uploaded (or actually am now uploading) it to
usenet in these two newsgroups:

   news:alt.binaries.sounds.tv

   news:alt.binaries.sounds.tv-commercials

Look for the subject header that reads:

> TVAD_Let-Freedom-Ring-LQ.mpg - Disgusting Commercial Proving that America's God is
>TVAD_Let-Freedom-Ring-LQ.mpg

Well, you've just played the part of judge, jury and executioner without
even giving me a chance to defend myself. The picture was a parody and
the woman pictured had "shag" hair and lots of it. I've known females
from France and Spain and I was not bothered by their hairy legs. But if
I found something like what was pictured coming after me in heat, I would
RUN like hell. But then I'm gay, so I have the right.

And besides it was supposed to be comic relief. And no, I'm not planning
on censoring myself for the benefit of those who might be offended. I
think that's like ONE humor post I've made to this list in probably three
years or more of being on this list (under various user names). I think
the government is doing enough censoring to cover my part. Renaming the
war from Infinite Justice to whatever it's called this week just because
Muslims think that only Allah can deliver infinite justice? Jeez The
way I see it, if I have a problem with something, it's my responsibility
to change the way I see things instead of trying to force the rest of the
world to conform to my ideas about decency.

air on the same night:

Sunday, October 7, 2001:

7:00pm

The Learning Channel - Hyperspace: Life
How the solar system was created, how the sun will expand with
age and the successes planet hunters have had in finding new
   planets.

8:00pm

The Learning Channel - Hyperspace: Survival
What could happen if a black hole, which has the potential to
destroy everything in its path, sets a collision course with
   Earth.

9:00pm

The Learning Channel - Hyperspace: Destiny
A possible escape route that stretches into deep space which
could be used if the Earth, the sun and the solar system
   vanished.

Russia has allowed use of their airspace, having Slovakia seems sort of
odd.

Any terrorists around Slovakia?

What difference would it have made? If someone had predicted this before
it happened, people would call him a complete nut. If it actually
happened, they would have called him a conspirator and turned him in to
the FBI. Prophets can't win. It's the nature of the job. Prophets
throughout history have been hunted, tortured and crucified.

[CTRL] Saddam Hussein Sounds Off

2001-09-20 Thread Damaeus

-Caveat Lector-

Have you heard the latest comments from Saddam Hussein? He says he's
disappointed in the rescue workers at the World Trade Center. He says
that Iraqi workers would have been able to find more survivors in the
rubble.

Now ain't that somethin'?

Has somebody on this group been jerkin' his chain?

[CTRL] Barbara Olson

2001-09-19 Thread Damaeus

-Caveat Lector-

I just found this out. Barbara Olson has been mentioned many times as a
lady who regularly appeared on the Fox News Channel. She was on one of
the four planes that crashed. I don't remember which one. Anyway,
supposedly Barbara was on C-SPAN the Sunday morning before the WTC
incident and a lady called up, told her she was filled with evil and would
soon die. I dunno if this story is actually true or not, but I see no
reason for anyone to make up something like that.

article <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, which said:

> Yep. Enlarge the fonts to 72 pt. they are much easier to read.

You know, believe it or not, I posted this to one of my favorite
newsgroups I've participated in for at least three years and the dozen or
dozen and a half people who responded, except for one, laughed me out of
the newsgroup saying that people could find anything they want in any
event, including this font trick, just like faces in clouds.

Good lord. Some things are just too obvious to have happened by chance.
I mean, we're talking about a skull which appeared in a cloud, and I'm not
talking about the kind of thing you see in the clouds, like Snoopy riding
a hot dog. I'm talking about a small skull that actually looks like a
skull, not to mention what some have called "the face of Satan" in another
billow of smoke.

Dr. Tom van Flandern, Astronomer/Editor of the Meta Research Bulletin,
said in reference to the face on Mars that the chances have all of the
facial features in the Mars formation appear by accident is 100
quadrillion to one. Seems like the same odds would apply to a puff of
smoke. 100 quadrillion to one does not make it impossible, but so
unlikely as to make it absurd to think it was an accident, especially when
it happens twice in one day.

I just think some people are probably too terrified by what's going, not
only with the WTC event, but with skulls and satan-heads in clouds, this
font trick, the CD from The Coup with the WTC explosion, months before it
happened, and the TV series "Lone Gunmen". I think people are shitting
themselves, but they're too macho to admit it. I find that more likely
for that to be true than to simply think all these things happened by
accident. One or two events I could call a coincidence, but this is too
much. I can't say it was a deliberate action, but it could have been
people doing things that were prophetic, even though they didn't realize
it themselves.

[CTRL] A much larger flag...

2001-09-14 Thread Damaeus

Someone requested a larger flag, so I made a much larger one that would be
suitable for any screen resolution. This flag is 2000x1040 and is a 35k
GIF download and very crisp and bright. It also has more blue around the
borders of the stars to make it more "real".

is going to Hell, or (b) they think America is Hell. They do think
America is The Great Satan.

[CTRL] The Fall of the World Trade Center

2001-09-11 Thread Damaeus

-Caveat Lector-

Watch the fall of the buildings carefully. It looks like it's exploding
from the top down. It looks very similar to how it looks when buildings
are demolished. I think it's likely the top half of the building could
have been rigged with explosives.

[CTRL] Television of Interest... I stuck it on the web

2001-09-02 Thread Damaeus

-Caveat Lector-

Okay, I'm trying something new here. You may remember that I used to
occassionally post TV listings to this mailing list. Well, I decided to
try simply sticking them up on the web. I only have two days done so far,
September 2 and September 3, and I'm only putting up listings for programs
that start from 5pm to programs that start in the 11pm hour. This is
because I'm actually typing these listings manually and to try to cover
the whole 24 hours each day would leave me barely able to do anything else
in life. Besides, most of the best programming comes on during the Prime
Time hours.

The channels I'll be monitoring for programming are listed here:

   http://www.web-recon.com/continuum/tv/channels.html

Of course, I won't be listing every single thing on these channels, just
stuff relating to our changing world, conspiracies, space exploration,
aliens, UFO's and various historical topics including Atlantis, Lemuria
and mythology. These listings are meant to be used as a guide to what's
coming on. Please check your own program guide for a complete listing
because I'm a human prone to mistakes like everyone else and I might
actually miss something, or my source for program listings might be
inaccurate.

The TV listings can be accessed by either going to the main page at
http://www.web-recon.com and clicking on TV Listings under "Continuum and
Beyond" on the left side of the page, or you can access the index directly
by going here:

   http://www.web-recon.com/continuum/tv/index.html

I got a lot of positive feedback when I was sending these listings out via
e-mail, but by the time I tried to put together a whole week's worth of
listings, my hair was hanging in a heap around my face and I looked like
I'd been in a turkey bake-off. Maybe this way I can do one day at a time
and keep things up to date on the web. Right now I'm working on getting
the week caught up so I can stay about 5-6 days ahead of things.

I'm planning to keep archives of the listings so if you ever remember
seeing a program you saw listed before, you might be able to find it in
the archives. Right now there's no search engine because that's beyond my
technical knowledge at this point. I'll work on it in the future because
I think that would make it a nice addition to having an archive.

Well, that's it. I hope you like it.

I think having a free for all with language on TV would be a good thing.
I think it would open people's minds more. I mean, how bad is it when an
old woman hears you say, "dang" and she nearly hyperventilates and falls
on the floor. I think it's time to bring this "fucking" profanity problem
to an end. There's absolutely nothing wrong with any of those words.
It's just that people feel the need to set aside a few words and call them
dirty just in case they one day need to really vent their anger, then
others will know that when they hear the word "fuck" that the person is
really pissed off and should be left alone.

David Letterman did a spot on that fact. He went on and on about how a
13-year-old punk kid can say "bullshit" on prime time TV, so he felt he
should be able to say it, too. CBS said, "No no Dave!" And they went on
about the fact that since On Golden Pond was a play, then such language
was allowed because it was art. Dave was disappointed that he, a mature
adult in a suit, cannot say "bullshit" on TV.

I think that's refreshing, too. I find it horribly distasteful that
movies can glorify violence, but shame sexual ecstasy.

And yet Three's Company was one of the most popular sitcoms of its time
and it now the most popular show on Nick-at-Nite.

[CTRL] SETI Comments on Arecibo Glyph

2001-08-28 Thread Damaeus
cibo message.

Another weak argument. They are assuming, and predictably so, that we
have ALL the answers to the mysteries of the universe right here on Earth, so if
"we know" that something is impossible, then it is impossible. I'm sorry, but
the universe is a very old place and the Earth is fairly young in comparison to
it all. It's highly likely that life has evolved somewhere else in the universe
millions of years before Earth was even around. Naturally these beings, with
all their extra experience in the universe, would know things about the universe
and technology that we do not yet know. Evidence? We're bursting at the seams
with theories and speculations, but still there are many mysteries we have yet
to solve. How long will it take us to solve them? How much longer have aliens
been around than us? They could well have the technology to actually SEE radio
transmissions moving through space. They could then move to intercept the
transmission. Even that is crude. They could have the technology to extend a
field of some sort to read the information. And going back to seeing the radio
transmission moving through space, how do we know they don't have a space
station positioned 26 light years away--something so small that Hubble cannot
detect it? They may have figured out how to travel faster than light, so even
if they missed the transmission when it flew by, they could chase it down and
get into position to receive it.

I understand that these people want to be scientific, but when we look at what
happens and apply our own primitive science to it, then what we're saying is
that our own physics says it is impossible, so it is impossible. It doesn't
mean it's TRULY impossible. It simply means we don't know how it could be done.

Redundant. It goes back to what I suggested above. The reason we have similar
biochemistry is because they may have had something to do with our evolution.

United Nations. Aliens would want to talk to us as a planet. They would not, I
don't believe, favor one nation over another one.

Which is exactly why aliens don't go through SETI. They want their messages
found and seen by everyone NOW, not filtered through bureaucracies. Do they
honestly think that aliens are as clueless as we are? It's likely that these
beings have done this thousands of times before so they know what works and what
doesn't.

Dutch Scientists to Try to Create Crop Circles Using Plasmas

Every year in The Netherlands 20 to100 crop circles mysteriously appear in wheat
fields. They remain a mystery, but new research, reported in the scientific
journal Physiologia Plantarum, may help clear up their origins. Dr. Eltjo
Haselhoff is the author of the article. He’s a physicist and also a member of
the Dutch Center for Crop Circle Studies

They may be neither young nor old souls -- just patient souls who are allowing
confused brains to do what they wish. I think that's why some form of "alien
contact" may be a necessary component to ensure the survival of mankind. If
left to our own devices, I think we would always have these confused,
power-hungry souls who either do the wrong things for the right reasons, or the
wrong things for the selfish reasons. Eventually I think things like alien
sightings, crop circles, and close encounters can get the attention of even the
most dispicable hard-head. Therefore, that's why I think certain physical
events are necessary for our collective ascension.

[CTRL] Emotions, DNA and Psychedelic Herbs

2001-08-27 Thread Damaeus

-Caveat Lector-

A recent guest on Art Bell mentioned that ones emotions caused their DNA to change --
that the decisions a person makes in life and the resulting experiences actually
affects how their DNA is going to develop. I believe this was the 8/24/2001 program
with Gregg Braden and this topic was being discussed when Art was talking about
modulated and unmodulated sound and gave us a dose of radio silence to exemplify this.
Our choice and experiences influence which components of our DNA are goign to
activate and which ones are going to remain "silent".

It just hit me here as I hit a bowl of Salvia Divinorum. If experiences can cause
your DNA to change, and since your mind perceives everything as real, (even if you
decide that it's your imagination playing tricks on you, that experience of
realization that it was a trick of the imagination is real) then these trippy
experiences we have on psychedelic drugs would also affect our DNA, would it not?

I tell you that many of the spiritual and eternal things I have "philosophized" about
before I ever tried drugs I found to be true after the fact. Certainly one cannot see
any outward evidence that my DNA has been changed, but who says that all DNA has to do
with appearance or even health? If we are both body and soul or body and spirit, then
naturally our DNA would be connected to the soul. The development of our DNA might
actually affect what kind of relationship we will have with our connection to the
universe -- our soul.

A psychedelic experience, which to many is an exeperiencing of the solving of the
mysteries of the universe, may actually change our DNA in such a way to make us more
open to an experience of a future metamorphosis, ascension or a larger conduit to
universal understanding or what have you.

So what does this mean? It just throws another plus in my hat. If the government
knows about the research Gregg Braden mentioned -- this proven research with
experiments which have been repeated -- and who knows how long this research has been
around -- then if the government has so far refused to seriously consider the
existence of other races of beings in the universe, and since they seem to be ignoring
these recent formations in England, and if they feel that drug use will affect our DNA
in such a way as to make us more open to these energies that exist all around us, then
apparently they do not want us to know or understand. If that is the case, then what
is their plan? Why do they want to keep the masses ignorant when they themselves
could benefit greatly from a more open relationship with the universe and its other
inhabitants?

Well, you're right. I never thought that they would have been arguing

Maybe they could let Isreal have the mount and they could build Disney

Isn't this becoming dangerous? How many times in history have people
invited themselves to be the interpretor and arbiter of God's laws and
principles, only to end up killing thousands or even hundreds of thousands,
thinking he's doing the work of God? Hitler believed he was doing the work
of God. Of course, how do we know he wasn't? After all, look at all the

Well, he just wanted to say something that he thinks will get him support
from all the Christians who would like hearing such a thing -- people who
want to see a man in a postion of political power make everybody behave and
act according to the Bible.

[CTRL] So, you thought it was the tar that caused cancer...

2001-01-12 Thread Damaeus

-Caveat Lector-

So, you thought it was the tar that caused cancer...
by Sol Lightman

Think again. Cigarette companies will have you believing anything just as
long as you continue to buy their products. The fact is, although insoluble
tars are a contributing factor to the lung cancer danger present in today's
cigarettes, the real danger is radioactivity. According to U.S. Surgeon
General C. Everette Koop (on national television, 1990) radioactivity, not
tar, accounts for at least 90% of all smoking related lung cancer.

Tobacco crops grown in the United States are fertilized by law with
phosphates rich in radium 226. In addition, many soils have a natural
radium 226 content. Radium 226 breaks down into two long lived 'daughter'
elements -- lead 210 and polonium 210. These radioactive particles become
airborne, and attach themselves to the fine hairs on tobacco leaves.

Studies have shown that lead 210 and polonium 210 deposits accumulate in the
bodies of people exposed to cigarette smoke. Data collected in the late
1970's shows that smokers have three times as much of these elements in
their lower lungs as non smokers. Smokers also show a greater accumulation
of lead 210 and polonium 210 in their skeletons, though no studies have been
conducted to link these deposits with bone cancer. Polonium 210 is the only
component of cigarette smoke which has produced tumors by itself in
inhalation experiments with animals.

When a smoker inhales tobacco smoke, the lungs react by forming irritated
areas in the bronchi. All smoke produces this effect. However, although
these irritated spots are referred to as 'pre-cancerous' lesions, they are a
perfectly natural defense system and usually go away with no adverse
effects. Insoluble tars in tobacco smoke can slow this healing process by
adhering to lesions and causing additional irritation. In addition, tobacco
smoke causes the bronchi to constrict for long periods of time, which
obstructs the lung's ability to clear itself of these residues.

Polonium 210 and lead 210 in tobacco smoke show a tendency to accumulate at
lesions in specific spots, called bifurcations, in the bronchi. When
smoking is continued for an extended period of time, deposits of
radioactivity turn into radioactive 'hot spots' and remain at bifurcations
for years. Polonium 210 emits highly localized alpha radiation which has
been shown to cause cancer. Since the polonium 210 has a half life of 21.5
years (Due to the presence of lead 210), it can put an ex-smoker at risk for
years after he or she quits. Experiments measuring the level of polonium
210 in victims of lung cancer found that the level of 'hot spot' activity
was virtually the same in smokers and ex-smokers even though the ex-smokers
had quit five years prior to death.

Over half of the radioactive materials emitted by a burning cigarette are
released into the air, where they can be inhaled by non-smokers. In
addition to lead 210 and polonium 210 it has been proven that tobacco smoke
can cause airborne radioactive particles to collect in the lungs of both
smokers and non-smokers exposed to second hand smoke. Original studies
conducted on uranium miners which showed an increased risk of lung cancer
due to exposure to radon in smokers have been re-run to evaluate the
radioactive lung cancer risk from indoor air radon. It turns out that
tobacco smoke works as a kind of 'magnet' for airborne radioactive
particles, causing them to deposit in your lungs instead of on furniture.
(Smoking indoors increases lung cancer risks greatly.)

It has been estimated that the total accumulated alpha radiation exposure of
a pack-a-day indoor smoker is 38 to 97 rad by age 60. (Two packs a day
yields up to 143 rad, and non-smokers receive no more than 17 rad.) An
exposure of 1 rad per year yields a 1% risk of lung cancer (at the lowest
estimate.)

Don't smoke. Or if you do, smoke lightly, outdoors, and engage frequently
in activities which will clear your lungs. Imported India tobacco has less
than half the radiation content ofthat grown in the U.S.

Nicotine, the active ingredient in tobacco smoke, has long been known to be
highly addictive. In fact, doctors and pharmacologists are not in consensus
as to which is more addictive -- nicotine, or heroin.

Many people think smoking marijuana is just as harmful as smoking tobacco,
but this is not true. Those who hold that marijuana is equivalent to
tobacco are misinformed. Due to the efforts of various federal agencies to
discourage use of marijuana in the 1970's the government, in a fit of
"reefer madness," conducted several biased studies designed to return
results that would equate marijuana smoking with tobacco smoking, or worse.

For example the Berkeley carcinogenic tar studies of the late 1970's
concluded that "marijuana is one-and-a-half times as carcinogenic as
tobacco." This finding was based sol

[CTRL] Biometric Identification Schemes

2001-01-08 Thread Damaeus

-Caveat Lector-

If there was ever a full-scale opportunity to database who we are, this has
to be it:

JotterSAF eases your security and privacy concerns through
biometric solutions. Use the unique characteristics of your
voice, fingerprints, iris, or face to authenticate you.

http://www.jottersaf.com/2001.html

Imagine -- you use voiceprint identification and with one of those audio
spectrographs of your voiceprint is on record. Then when you ask for a
cherry ICEE at the corner 7-Eleven, if some black government op has some
need to know, he can pull up your entire history without even getting an ID
number or fingerprint from you. You didn't use a credit card, didn't show a
driver's license, didn't write a check. All you did was ask for an ICEE.
It's on record.

But yes, it would make life easier. I would love to chunk all my passwords
and simply use my fingerprint or iris scan or voiceprint to prove I am who I
say I am. Of course, with voice print ID, if our voiceprints are kept on
file someplace, then it only gives dark hackers a new way to rip us off.
Break into a database, download a voiceprint and use that voiceprint to
withdraw a few hundred dollars from an ATM.

I guess for every new technology there is a new can of worms. I know they
say it's bad to give up freedom for more security. I guess in this case
we're giving up security to get more freedom -- freedom from password lists,
etc...

I wonder if this is one step toward everybody implanted with a microchip.
For example, let's say we do have a problem with people "stealing" your
identity with voiceprint and probably even fingerprints before long. Or
we'll have rashes of crimes where people end up with their thumbs chopped
off so the robber can run around and steal money left and right until the
thumb rots and is no longer usable. What is the solution but to give people
a choice of going back to passwords (less secure) or get a unique chip
implanted for the ulimate security. perhaps the chip would be so small that
even if somebody wanted to cut it out of you, it would be nearly impossible
to find in the mass of tissue and blood, especially if one can pick where
they want it implanted.

People seem to have a hard time reverting back to the old days, so probably
most people will go with the implant, I imagine.

[CTRL] Charles Manson Tidbit

2000-12-06 Thread Damaeus

-Caveat Lector-

Picked this up off a Bizarre Newsletter I get in e-mail from time to
time. It's about Charles Manson and some things he's said. In
particular I find his comment "In the world of the blind, the one-eyed
man is king" to be quite interesting. I think he's saying that blind
people have a more active third eye than one who is not blind.

Greetings Fellow Bizarros:

Have any of you seen a report circulating on the Internet
that is supposedly penned by Charles Manson? Well, it looks
like he wants peace in the Middle East NOW! Yeah, since he
cannot get paroled, he wants to add his name to the long list
of people who are praying for peace.

Obviously I cannot verify the authenticity of this story, but
it is one of the more wacky things I have read online. When I
told the chief editor about this, he suggested that I fly to
California to interview Manson about this. He reasoned that
even if the story was a dead end, I should be able to cajole
something "bizarre" from this mass murderer.

Now, call me a coward, but visiting Charles Manson in person
is not something I really want to do. Put me in for a road
trip to a brothel, a cockfight, a tattoo parlor, but I draw
the line with mass murderers. After I suggested that the chief
editor at Shagmail replace me for an issue and take the
assignment himself, he muttered that he was too busy.

Instead of seeing this guy in person, I figured to bone up on
some of his homespun philosophy. Here are some short quotes
attributed to him:

"The most happy marriage I can picture or even imagine to
myself would be the union of a deaf man to a blind woman."

"I think the best candidate for President of the United States
is Al Gore. But, I wish he wasn't so stiff."

"In the world of the blind, the one-eyed man is king."

"The wishbone will never replace the backbone."

And my favorite:

"When you have got an elephant by the hind legs and he is
trying to run away, it's best to let him run."

Thanks Charlie, and if you ever get out on parole, drop my
editor a line. I think he admires your philosophy of life.

Bizarrely,

Lewis

[CTRL] Planet Project - November 15 - 18, 2000

2000-11-15 Thread Damaeus

-Caveat Lector-

Planet Project

http://www.planetproject.com/index.html

You're invited to participate in an event that may become a part of history.
For four days, November 15 - 18, 2000, you and millions of other people
around the world are invited to answer a series of questions about what it's
like to be a human being at the beginning of the millennium.

As soon as you finish answering questions on topics ranging from health to
religion, sleep to sex, marriage to child rearing, and crime to politics,
you can immediately compare your answers to those of others who are
answering the same questions at that very moment.

Using a wide range of technologies never combined before, the project's goal
is to involve people of all nations in an experience that enables them to
instantly share and compare their thoughts, beliefs, opinions, fears,
similarities, and differences.

The Planet Project, aimed at being the largest collaborative online event
ever, will be conducted on the Web and in the field and will include 500
"Planet Pollsters." These individuals will be sent to remote corners of the
globe equipped with laptops, handheld computers, modems, and portable
satellite up-links. These Pollsters will ensure that the voices of people
without access to technology will also be included in the Planet Project.

A parallel Student Underground version of the project will be conducted
simultaneously and will consist of questions created by an international
team of students around the world.

Please mark the date on your calendar, and remember to tell your friends.

See you on November 15!
