Re: RV: [darktable-dev] CAN NOT OPEN FOLDERS
It has just occurred to me: have you tried disabling OpenCL before importing photos? A bad graphics driver could cause the issue you experience (processing hanging indefinitely). It can be toggled in settings, see here: https://darktable.gitlab.io/doc/es/cpugpumemory.html So, again, start with a clean profile so no photos are in the DB and no processing occurs; disable OpenCL; try importing. If it works, we'll know it's your graphics driver that's causing the problem. Kofa ___ darktable developer mailing list to unsubscribe send a mail to darktable-dev+unsubscr...@lists.darktable.org
RE: RV: [darktable-dev] CAN NOT OPEN FOLDERS
Hi Jim, Thank you. What I see is that you all know a lot about computers sytems; I know nothing. So, first of all I want to be sure I don´t make something worse. I have doubts about the 1st. step: "1/ make sure darktable is not running and then rename the file C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\local\darktable to something else. Now start darktable." * What I saw is that I only can rename it by editing it on the searching bar. Is that ok? **Do I have to change this ? " C:\Users\Do I have to rename my user name ?\AppData\local\darktable to something else. Thank you. Having looked at the screen shots you posted recently I have an idea as to what the problem may be. To find out please try the following steps. These repeat some of the things you have tried before, but we need to be sure that there is nothing left over from previous attempts. 1/ make sure darktable is not running and then rename the file C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\local\darktable to something else. Now start darktable. 2/ when darktable starts it will ask about installing the lua scripts as you have seen before. It is important that you answer this question and I am afraid that you probably have to do this in English! Click on the little downward triangle where it says 'install scripts'. This will open the drop down menu from which I suggest you select 'don't show again'. Now click on the button below which says 'execute'. I think this is perhaps where you have gone wrong before as it looks like you tried to import some photos without answering this question. 3/ Now we will check that darktable is handling the lock files correctly by ending darktable by clicking on the X in the top right hand corner. 4/ Now count to 10 to let darktable complete its housekeeping. Now try to start dartable again. Hopefully it starts ok in which case the lock from the previous run was released. This time you shouldn't be asked about about the lua scripts. You might want to select Spanish language now in the configuration. Then you can terminate darktable again. 5/ Now we should try importing some images. Create a new test folder somewhere and place a few image files in it. Make sure it is just image files without any .xmp files from previous. Now start darktable and try to import the images in this test folder. If this works try exiting darktable, counting to 10 (as I said earlier darktable does some housekeeping before it releases the lock files so we need to give it a bit of time) and starting darktable again. Hopefully you can find the image files again in darktable. Let me know how you get on. Thank you Laurent, I already created a new profile but it doesn´ t work. I almost give up because I am with this problem 3 weeks ago and can not find the problem and a solution. Thank you all ! Re: RV: [darktable-dev] CAN NOT OPEN FOLDERS
I apologise for coming late to this thread. I am pretty sure that Susana has used the option in the light-table to select folder, and having done so expected her images to open in the light-table. The failure of the images to display could be caused by the View dropdown at the top left of Light-table being set to anything except "all". The "rating" may be set to one star when the images have not had stars applied. In this case the folder is opening but the options are preventing the display of the contents, and that would feel like the folder is not opening. I have caught myself in this scenario a few times. Hope this helps Andrew On 19/2/21 11:15 pm, susana gastelumendi wrote: Hi Laurent. I already created a new profile. Also the Microsoft support helped with that twice, and it didn´t work. On windows you can redirect the output to a file and that does work i.e. "C:\Archivos de Programa\darktable\bin\darktable" -d all > output.txt On Thu, Feb 18, 2021 at 1:18 PM KOVÁCS István wrote: > Note that today I installed darktable on a Windows laptop just to see > if I can help with the issue. Re: RV: [darktable-dev] CAN NOT OPEN FOLDERS
Note that today I installed darktable on a Windows laptop just to see if I can help with the issue. I ran it with darktable -d all but got absolutely no output on the console (Windows 10). That is not how it behaves on Linux. BTW, the invocation would need the 'bin' subdirectory and the name of the executable, so: "C:\Archivos de Programa\darktable\bin\darktable" -d all I actually changed to the directory first: cd "C:\Archivos de Programa\darktable\bin" and then used darktable -d all Kofa ___ darktable developer mailing list to unsubscribe send a mail to darktable-dev+unsubscr...@lists.darktable.org

Well that means that darktable was able to import your pictures. Is there a .xmp for every picture file? If a file is missing its .xmp maybe there is a problem with that picture (corrupted, wrong extension, ...). Re: RV: [darktable-dev] CAN NOT OPEN FOLDERS
Hello, I honestly think this thread should be on the users' list, not on the devs'. BTW, Susana, there's a lively forum at discuss.pixls.us, where it's much easier to share screenshots, for example. With that out of the way: removing (uninstalling) darktable only removes the program, but does not wipe the data. If your configuration is invalid or your database files are broken (e.g. because of the many abrupt terminations while importing), they will remain. Your configuration file would be at C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\darktable\darktablerc; the database should be next to it. Debug logs: https://www.darktable.org/about/faq/#faq-windows-logs You could try (with darktable closed) renaming the darktable folder in AppData\Local to something else (e.g. darktable.backup), and start with a clean slate. You could also run the from command-line with the -d (debug) option to see where it gets stuck. See https://www.darktable.org/usermanual/en/special-topics/program-invocation/darktable/ BTW, how many images are you trying to import? If you create a new folder, put a single image in it, can that be imported? Are your images on your computer, or on a network? Re: RV: [darktable-dev] CAN NOT OPEN FOLDERS
There are a lot of changes in the new Dt 2.4.x... You must read, at least, the manual & follow some videos about it! To make appear the "gears" mentioned by W.Fetrgusson, do Ctrl-shift + T & then you can access the "gears", the basic configuration of Dt. But you must know what you are going to do! Ps: clic "h" in Dt gives you a summary of the shortcuts, you must know! When you import a folder, before, try to open it outside Dt, in explorer, do you see the images? When you stop Dt while it is running, you need to wait for it to stop completely (or stop it manually... your microsoft tech knows how to do it) otherwise, you always have the same message when you restart it. Also, i don't know what's your previous version of Dt, but it can take a lot of time to convert the database used by Dt. Again you need to read the new manual! I answer your questions: git is the version control software used to maintain darktable. You can download it from https://gitforwindows.org<https://gitforwindows.org/>. I don't think that installing the lua scripts will help with your darktable folder opening problem. What folder are your pictures in? Are there other folders under the main one that also contain pictures? Both cases: The folder opens but the pictures doesn t finish opening. they stay " processing" So, as I can´ t work, I close Darktable. But that pictures, continue processing and Darktable closes in a wrong way. It stays opened background. After that, I try to open Darktable and I can´t. It appers the message to delete that LOCK files. I delete them and the same story. If you are trying to just import the top level folder and get all of the pictures, do you have the recursive option checked in the settings (gear wheel at the upper right of the lighttable)? I don´t understand what you mean. I don´t see any gear wheel When you try to import the folder, how do you do it? Click the folder button at the top left, then use the file finder to click on a folder containing pictures, then click open? Yes, I always did and do like you say. Import folder, at the top left , and open folder. But pictures doesn t finish opening. What I can t understand, is that I uninstalled and re intsalled a new version, and the same problem. Yesterday I was 2 hours with the Microsoft technitian but windows is ok. We can ´t find the solution and told me that the program has a failure. But I don´t understand because for months I didn´t have any problem. I don't think that installing the lua scripts will help with your darktable folder opening problem. What folder are your pictures in? Are there other folders under the main one that also contain pictures?
