Re: (subject=5/3/68) GD May 1st and 2nd, 1968 ??
Hi Todd - This looks like its one of those retro (fake) posters that they sell at malls and online. They are usually on thick heavy cardboard and have block lettering. Here is another one for a show that never happened: http://cgi.ebay.com/WILD-BILL-SHOW-POSTERS-GRATEFUL-DEAD-GOLDEN-GATE-PARK_W0QQitemZ150095705641QQihZ005QQcategoryZ29912QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem Actually I've seen another version of that which had a picture from about 1980 on it and a different and probably nonexistant opening act. Thanks for speakign up on this though. Hope you have been doing well! :-) DS Todd Norman wrote: Hello, Was just checking deadlists.com and do not see entries for May 1st/2nd, 1968. Found a poster of this event for sale on ebay. Not saying that that couldn't be done by a band, just mentioning that as well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemitem=120110584757ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26satitle%3D120110584757%26category0%3D%26fvi%3D1 Todd

somebody broke 4/25/71, can it be put back together again?
Does this 45 minute segment of 4/25/71 circultate on cdr? I don't recall it ever circulating on DAT, so I'm thinking probably not. Although most of this segement is on Ladies and Gentlemen, a couple of the songs aren't. It would be cool to see it on cdr from the old tapes, even if it doesn't sound the best. Some of my best Dead show memories are from Lake Placid 1983 - and its being posted to alt.binaries.gdead If you were at this one, you remember it fer sure. I spent much of this show in the hallways and it was a blast. Might take another 6 hours or so for all the files to be there. Its being posted with some Pars files. If the .flac files you download are corrupted you will be able to fix them or recreate them from scratch on your hard drive. I got this thru Bittorrent, but it took like 3 days. After its finished being posted, you should be able to get it in a half hour or so (with a high speed connection). Iver - I've never heard of this one refered to as 8/29/68 or 8/23/68. Perhaps this is an error specific to the info that came with your cds? request for Cicadas 2004 summer tour recording
I was wondering if someone on this list with recording gear could go out and make a recording of the 17 year Cicadas? The sound they make is really weird and I wanted to have a good recording of it. Why? I have no idea really... I have been hearing it around my home this past week really loud and I just realized that's the sound they us in sci-fi movies a lot whenever there's an flying saucer or an alien present. Has anyone else noticed that? I was hoping for a recording that's free of city noises or any talking and about an hour long. Not sure what I'd do with it, but it seems like a cool thing to have. I wanted a high quality nature recording like those recordings of whale songs. I wonder if the cicadas have songs that repeat or if its just a constant signal? What would it sound like if you slowed down the playback? They are all over the ground in my parking lot. Would it be possible to grab a couple and put them in an aquarium or something like that and record the sounds from one that is isolated from the continual drone? Dave S.

Re: GD Columbia University - 5/3/68
Well the newspaper article is probably right about Morning Dew. The songs that are on the soundtrack of the film are questionable if the video and audio don't match, right? DS Jeff Novick wrote: I was able to view the whole film tonite and the version I have is both audio and video. I have it now in DVD, VCD, and MP3. I also found it online for sale in VHS. At 10:51 into part two, they play cold rain and snow till 12:14, which immediately cuts into Sitting on top of the world which they play till 12:40. I also have a newsclipping of the event which shows a picture of jerry playing on the Ferris Booth Hall steps and the write up says they also played morning dew. My friend doesnt remember what they played, just where they played, and I havent checked the sound against the album as you suggested, but it is a very clean crisp recording on the film so what you say is possible. The article says there was lots happening on the stage with student protestors trying to use the deads mic for their own purpose and that they kicked someone off the steps. You would figure some of that would come out in the recording. -Original Message- From: Marc Evans [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wed 3/24/2004 1:21 AM To: Dave S; Jeff Novick; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: Subject: RE: GD Columbia University - 5/3/68 Columbia Revolt is available as a two-part d/load from archive.org. The late show has long been regarded as one the Dead's finest, and to hear it, in what is up till now the cleanest source available, is truly awesome. There are four TDK 120 cassettes from this night, however we have only three. Tape 1, 3 and 4. Tape 2 is missing. We will have to fill in the puzzle as the pieces emerge. And this poses a problem. We naturally want to bring you the complete show, but we have no idea when the missing piece will be found, so it was decided to release what we have. I included a text file for the missing sets in the torrent for the sake of continuity. This will have to do until the last tape is found. Noise Reduction was applied to the acoustic Dead set only. Some deterioration on the master tape during 83968 (Disc1 t5), and some other small glitches, none of which should detract from enjoying this show. The original audience master cassette was recorded on a Sony TC124 with unknown Sony dynamic mics, spread approx. 25-30 ft. across the balcony, by Ken Judy Lee,. The cassette was baked, processed and transfered via Tascam 122 MK-III Lucid ADA1000 Tascam CDRW 700 (CDR) by John Jay Hance. Noise Reduction by Peter G. The kind of night that legends are made of. All of the elements were in place. The band was on, the crowd was on, the energy was on, the tape was on. The X factor at a high. Disc 1 opens with the Grateful Dead acoustic. This set has circulated only as a fragment, a few songs that Mark Cohen, Judy's brother and Ken's brother-in-law, had tacked on as filler to 4-4-71, sometime in 1976. Though short, only 30 minutes, it set the mood for the night. The New Riders of the Purple Sage take the stage as the sun is setting... No ordinary evening, indeed. There is an electric set of the grateful dead still to come, and thats only the early show. Unfortunately this electric set has yet to be uncovered, along with the acoustic set from the late show. The rest of the show is here, and what a show it is. There is endless banter from the band, as they seem to REALLY be enjoying themselves. The New Riders open the third disc with their second set for the night. Garcia on pedal steel here, as well as the early show, and he really shines. But the electric set from the Dead is the real payoff. I know that the 7/1/66 (aka 7/1?/66) recording is a mislabeled partial copy of the new more complete 7/1617/66 material. 1/8/66 might be the soundtrack from the Key-Z vhs Acid test video tape. I think that is the only sourrce for that, so its still worth having. Most of the others may turn out to be duplication of other common recordings though. Dave S. Re: 2/12/70
Hi Marco - I was wondering what you meant when you said that 2/12/70 is the incorrect date. Do you mean that the Dead played at your father's nightclub on another occasion - or that the info about them not playing there at all on 2/12/70 was incorrect? Do you know if this was a one time thing, or did the dead (other bands too?) play at Ungano's when they were in town to also play at the Fillmore East? Thanks for speaking up on this, Dave S. From: Marco Ungano/ADC [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Tuesday, November 18, 2003 9:07 pm Subject: 2/12/70 Gentlemen, Regarding the above date dead show. Absolutely incorrect. My father was Nick Ungano, owner of Ungano's night club. Jerry and the boys, went to Ungano's in between shows at the Filmmore. My father worked for Bill Graham as a promoter and booking agent. Both my father and mother were at the show. It did happen. Just wanted to let you know.couldn't possibly come from a more reliable source. Thanks, Marco Ungano
Re: 3/16/73
Hey Tom: I don't have 3/16/73, but I have some comments I saved on my hard drive a that Dick Latvala made about the other fine show you mentioned - 9/21/72. Here is what Dick L. posted to Dead.Net Central about it: 9/21/72- Philadelphia Spectrum. This show is one of my favorite shows ever. This version of Dark Star-Morning Dew might be the best one! (there is a jam segment that is very unique and thrilling, and one that I don't really think that I have ever heard before.) The Not Fade Away- GDTRFB-NFA is another delicious morsel from this power packed evening. Each song is well played and worthy of attention. I think the other major highlights are Sugar Magnolia, Bird Song, Loser, Playing in the Band, Truckin, and Cumberland Blues.
Happy Halloween!

Re: 5/24/68
This is certainly possible - new stuff comes into circulation every so often. I saw that this date and the source info you posted matches what I've seen on the Kingbee listing... Thanks for speaking up about this one. Does anyone else have this to verify that it isn't duplication of something else? Dave S. Shawn wrote: Hello, I was checking this show (5/24/68) on deadlists.com and noticed that it is listed as not being in circulation. Thanks for the info. :-) Any chance of seeing that photo? Dave S. Ronald Roberts wrote: Hi, I'm using my brother Ron's computer, and I found out He, my other Brother Jeff and myself, were at this show. Which was on Sunday. I also found out that one of my brothers shot color slides that day and captured the Dead with one of those slides. It's a bummer that there was only one taken. Peace, Bret Roberts
Re: Dick's Picks #29 is six discs: May 19, 1977 and May 21, 1977
I think the whole show circulted on DAT, so its probably been transfered to cd by someone. It would be nice to just have the encore on a disc all by itself as disc #7 for DP #29. Dave S. John Andrew Prime wrote: I've ordered the CDs... Any sources for the missing encore? JAP in LA
Dick's Picks #29 is six discs: May 19, 1977 and May 21, 1977
