Seems fair by me, yes.

Given that we're many people digging around in the BTS for samab,
using the "owner" tag of the BTS to make bugs as "being worked on by
X" could be a good idea.

That would mean here:

Bug#337596: mypasswordsafe: FTBFS: Could not open output file '.ui/manualdlg.h'

2005-11-04 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: mypasswordsafe
Version: 0.0.20050615-1
Severity: serious
Justification: FTBFS

The current version of mypasswordsafe is failing to build on the alpha
autobuilder with the following error:

[...]
make[2]: Entering directory /build/buildd/mypasswordsafe-0.0.20050615'
/usr/share/qt3/bin/uic src/manualdlg.ui -o .ui/manualdlg.h
uic: Could not open output file '.ui/manualdlg.h'
make[2]: *** [.ui/manualdlg.h] Error 1

A full build log can be found at
.

This same error is happening on mips and mipsel, and may be reproducible on
other architectures as well.

The mypasswordsafe package has been removed from testing as a result of this
bug, in order to allow KDE and related packages to complete the C++ ABI
transition.

This bug has been open now for quite some time with no action. It would
seem to be trivial to upload a fix for the package which removes the 64-bit
architectures from the supported targets; do you have any plans to do this,
or is time for abuse-* to be removed from the archive completely?

For the record, this library exports a C++ interface, and therefore must go
through a name change -- *not* just be rebuilt.

The libaire.so.0 library is also mislinked, missing a dependency on
libstdc++.so.5; this results in the package failing to declare a dependency
on libstdc++5 even though it requires that package in order to function.

The problem is that since upstream is built with gcc 3.4, and debian's
is build with gcc 4.0, the extensions you will find on the net that use
a binary component (which are a very few) will more than probably be built
with gcc 3.4. When gcc 4.0 built firefox loads that, it breaks... And
that also explains why it didn't crash when you tried with upstream
firefox.

Now the problem is... there's few we can do :(

2005-11-04 Thread micah

reopen 330824
thanks

The original bug suggests that you move the plain-text files (including
python and perl scripts) from /usr/lib/subversion to
/usr/share/subversion. This you accomplished in 1.2.3dfsg1-1.

However, the other suggestion that was put forth in the bug report was:

"BTW: Maybe you can move the example files to /u/s/d/s-tools/example/"

This did not happen with any of the example files with 1.2.3dfsg1-1,
they all still appear in /usr/share/subversion/hook-scripts. Instead,
what did happen was that hot-backup.py, a perfectly good script, was
moved to /usr/share/doc/subversion-tools/examples.

It seems to me that the hot-backup.py script should be restored to its
original useful place (as a script that some backup programs use), and
the example files that are in /usr/share/subversion/hook-scripts be
actually moved to /usr/share/doc/subversion-tools/examples.

Thanks!

Bug#337593: ivtools-interviews: C++ library has transitioned to g++ 4.0 without a name change

2005-11-04 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: ivtools-interviews
Version: 1.1.3-5
Severity: serious

The description of the ivtools-interviews package is:

Description: C++ GUI library with Motif Look and Feel

This means ivtools-interviews is a library package exporting a C++
interface, and it must follow the C++ transition plan described at

The ivtools-interviews 1.1.3-5 package is RC-buggy, because it breaks
packages from stable which depend on it and expect the old C++ ABI.

Please change the name of the ivtools-interviews package to indicate this
ABI change. While you're at it, you might want to pick a name that matches
the soname of the library it contains, e.g., libiv1.

At that point, its starting apache2 (in your case). The "bad group
name 1023" error is caused by the buildd user not having an entry in
the groups database. Unfortunately, the apache config "Group"
directive only supports group names, not gids.

Also note very early on in the build (during "perl Makefile.PL"):
"Test httpd will run as user buildd and group 1023"

I should probably put in a specific (and more verbose) check for this
in the build script, since a number of buildds have had this problem.

Thanks for taking the time to investigate this.

the problem. Bascially, mondoarchive's memory management not very good
when it comes to string handling. This is currently being fixed
upstream. The reason this showing up as a problem is that version 2.3.5
is substantially stricter than 2.3.2.

A more detailed explanation of the issue is actually given by C. Andy
Martin in bug #328682.

In your particular case what happens is that in
libmondo-archive.c->call_mindi_to_supply_boot_disks() the first sprintf
(line 702) yields a string of 433 characters but MAX_STR_LEN is only
380. The subsequent free then fails.

The attached patch increases MAX_STR_LEN to 512 chararcters which should
provide a sufficient buffer to avoid the worst. The real fix is as I
said above currently implemented upstream but may take some time to
complete.

Could you check it out and let me know what you think?

Cheers
Andree

Hi John,

Thanks for the bug report.

Could you show me the output of "wajig -t source ..." so I might
see where the question is being asked. I don;t get this question.

Bug#328682: Found source of bug in code

2005-11-04 Thread Andree Leidenfrost
Dear Andy

I've done an analysis of #331060 and come the exact same conclusions as
you did.

The string management overhaul is currently being done upstream.

In the meantime I have attached a patch to #331060 which simply
increases the length of MAX_STR_LEN to 512. This is obviously not a
proper fix but reduces the likelihood of the problem appearing.

Cheers
Andree

Nice work, elmar!

Your observations about the code are very good, though not totally
correct. If you look at function process_config_option(), you'll see
that the original config line is duplicated and split at the '='
character (which has been replaced by '\0'). The "*t--" code is
applied to the part after '=' and the loop to erase whitespace will
never backup to the part before the '='. When I made the quick change
to get_string(), I hadn't fully analyzed the situation and had assumed
(rather than determined) that all was safe.

In any case, using remove_comment() is the better solution, as is using
xd=NULL. CVS now has the new version. In honor of your contribution
to the code base, your name has been added to the AUTHORS list.

Well done!

David

Bug#306452: Consider making default a daemon listening on 127.0.0.1

2005-11-04 Thread Don Armstrong
It would probably be ideal for the default bitlbee configuration to be
a daemon listening on 127.0.0.1:6667 or similar, since I imagine most
people will just be running on the same machine that they run their
IRC client on.

This would mean installing a init.d script that would start bitlbee
and making it trivial to disable in favor of inetd for more complex
setups. [This would also be a far more secure default setting than
what is the current default.]

Hi Thomas

Thank you for reporting this issue.

I believe it is the same as #331060 to which I've just added a patch
that implements a workaround until the problem is properly fixed
upstream.

Would you be in a position to test the patch and let me know the
outcome?

Thanks a lot & best regards

Bug#337590: debian-installer: Partitioner makes extra swap partition sometimes

2005-11-04 Thread andy
Package: debian-installer
Severity: normal

PowerPC install, OldWorld mac, installing with HD-install vmlinux and
initrd, and businesscard ISO on HFS+ partition. All downloaded on
2005-11-04 at approx 1900 Pacific time.

I manually created a swap partition from the partitioner, then selected
'automatically partition the free space', and 'all files in one
partition'.

After completing, the partition list shows an ext3 partition for / and
an addition swap partition at the end of free space.

Bug#337589: bittornado: request for an autoexit option

2005-11-04 Thread Michael Gilbert
Package: bittornado
Version: 0.3.13-1

Hello,

I am writing a script that depends on downloading files via bittornado.
I would like the btdownloadheadless executable to automatically exit
after download completion (perhaps after a certain time threshold to
allow a reasonable amount of uploading) so that my scripts can continue
without user intervention. I am not trying to encourage bittorrent
leaching by any means, but there needs to be a way to allow bittorrent
downloads to seamlessly exist within scripts. Well, let me know if this
seems reasonable, and pass this along to upstream if that makes sense.
Thanks for your hard work.

Bug#337588: implicit "apt-get build-dep" on "wajig source" is misdesign

2005-11-04 Thread John V. Belmonte
Package: wajig
Version: 2.0.29
Severity: normal

Starting with wajig 2.0.26, the source command causes an implicit "apt-get
build-dep". This is not the desired behavior if the user is intending to
build the package with tools such as pbuilder which run in an isolated
environment. My typical use pattern is to use "wajig source" to grab a
package, modify the source tree to my needs, and build it with pdebuild.
Besides building in a clean environment, this prevents my normal environment
from being littered over the long term with every package in the Debian
archive. The current behavior of "wajig source" defeats this-- please
revert to the previous behavior.

Currently, the doc package is not required by swat, so in order for the
swat web interface to work without too many broken links, the
documentation needs to be included there.

The idea, as I had already posted to the pkg-samba list, is to move the
pdf documentation to a separate package (in progress) and then make a
hard dependency from swat to the remaining doc package. The doc
package would then effectively represent the splitted out
architecture-independent data as requested by #233447.

I need to run xpath while creating Debian packages, so if it can't be
done offline, I'll need to turn to other alternatives (such as
xmlstarlet).

It looks to me like the problem might be that kis_filter.h and
kis_filter_registry.h include each other. As far as I can tell,
kis_filter_registry.h doesn't have any reason to include kis_filter.h, so I
would try removing that include to see if it fixes things.

I'm using sazanami-mincho and sazanami-gothic (both Japanese fonts) for

But,printing or putting ps file from firefox is wrong :-(

Bug#317524: infinite loop when using charset_default=iso-8859-1

Hi David,

The attached fixed version of the patch avoids this (and further code
duplication) by using the existing remove_comment() function, which
already is used by other get_*() functions.

The other problem is that init_charset_table_iconv() is not the only
place bf_iconv_open() is used without checking for a result of -1.
text_decode() in lexer.c contains the lines
cd = bf_iconv_open( charset_unicode, charset );
iconvert_cd(cd, &src, buf);
and iconvert_cd() checks for cd == NULL only.

Thus I think it makes more sense to fix bf_iconv_open() itself to
always return NULL on failure, like in the attached patch.

FWIW, the reason this patch was never applied/forwarded before was because
I'm not convinced it's necessary; it's trivial to preload user entries into
the smbpasswd database with disabled passwords if that's what the admin
wants, without any requirement to modify pam_smbpass in this manner, and
it's arguably less error-prone to do so, at which point pam_smbpass does
what's expected without any further modifications.

to many other programs, rather than relying on the user to do so

Current version is now slimserver 6.2.0

I would also be interested in this. It has to be one of the better/best

there is a community behind it providing plugins for it.

It's a shame they don't provide a .deb (only perl source, RPM, MSWindows

Someone has provided init scripts (for debian) in this email:

AFAIK, Qt4 doesn't have native support for Xxf86vm, so if you use it,
you're responsible for modifying the build system of your application to
link against it.

For example, using qmake, you'd add something like this to your .pro:

LIBS += -lXxf86vm

Or am I misunderstanding this bug report?

Bug#337171: Improve newt's accessibility

2005-11-04 Thread Samuel Thibault
tags 337171 + patch
thanks

The cursor-a11y-patch corrects the position of the cursor for buttons
and gauges, please apply.
Other items seem to already put the cursor in a sane place.

The topleft-a11y-patch adds an option to whiptail for putting windows in
the top left corner. (Centering the window just makes life harder for
screen readers...)
An option for displaying the cursor should still be provided somehow.
The border lines could even be avoided, actually. Maybe all these
options could be just one --a11y option?

Yes, it still makes sense to use newt rather that readline, because
the philosophy of newt is to just browse with cursor and press enter,
while readline interfaces naturally requires to type the identifier of
choices, which is a bit tedious.

Regards,
Samuel

It is true you cannot edit the exchange rate, but you can delete the wrong
exchage rate and post it again as follows.

To post a new and hopefully correct exchange rate you will need to delete all
the ar/ap transactions (not only payments) using the wrong exchange rate.
While deleting the last remaining transaction this will also delete the wrong
exchange rate. Now you can add again the transactions and payments previously
deleted. While adding the first transaction you can also add the correct
exchange rate.

The reason for this is that if you could edit the exchange rate then all the
accounting transactions using the edited exchange rate will need to be found
and reposted again. This also will modify posted accounting transactions on
the system.

>cheers, Rich.

Hope this help to get around this trouble.

I do not know if this will help for closing this bug.

Regards,

Gerardo Reynoso

What problem is this bug report trying to address, and how would you
suggest it be fixed? I understand that the version of clamav available
in stable is not the latest release, but that is how stable works. If
you don't want that, you need to seek out the other solutions in Debian,
which you clearly have. I am not sure what the problem is.

That didn't seem to be the case, but the patched script works properly
now, thank you.

>>Furthermore update-exim4.conf dies if the conf.d directory doesn't exist

It does.

I don't think the conf.d directory need exist if the single
configuration file is being used (dc_use_split_config='false') and vice
versa. One instance I can see it happening in is with one mail server I
set up, I kept different configurations in different directories, thus
to get around that message I would have to symlink (or copy) the conf.d
directory even though it was not being used. Considering that's a
workaround, it would probably be better to modify the script's behaviour
so no workaround would be necessary.

Bug#337572: fuse: debconf questions are unnecessary (similar to pmount)

2005-11-04 Thread Jens Nachtigall
Package: fuse
Version: 2.4.0-1
Severity: minor

I am a translator and come across quite a few typical debconf questions.
Therefore, I think I know when I see an unnecessary use of debconf.

I think fuse is one of these because, fuse imho should simply default to
the fuse as group and that's it. Removing debconf means:
- fewer translations
- less overhead
- fewer questions to a user (I know fuse's Qs are probably low prio)

I would fuse very much compare to e.g. pmount, this uses simply the
group "plugdev" as a non-changeable default, without asking any debconf
question. I think fuse should behave the same way, and simply have a
README, informing the user of group fuse. See
/usr/share/doc/pmount/README.Debian for an example

I do not see a reason what makes fuse so special compared to pmount, so
it should use the same mechanism.

I guess the right course it to upload a package that changes
any to a list of allowed arches and then to clone the bug against
ftp.debian.org asking for removal of the old binary.

Emar,

Thank you for reporting this problem!

Clint,

The config parsing problem is the first half of the story. Once
bogofilter has the bad charset name it tries to open the charset.
Naturally that fails. However the failure returns -1 rather than a
NULL and that causes the loop. The -1 vs NULL problem was caused by a
"fix" last June.

The attached patch fixes both problems.

David

Bug#337570: xprint: segfaults when printing from firefox

2005-11-04 Thread Felix C. Stegerman
Package: xprint
Version: 1:0.1.0.alpha1-12
Severity: important

This looks like bug #271001, so maybe I'm unnecessarily duplicating
this, but unlike said bug, I can reproduce this w/ all web pages I try
to print. Also, said bug is against xprt-xprintorg instead of xprint.

I'm using CUPS w/ a HP Jaserjet 1100 and cups-pdf. Both printers work
fine when using postscript printing from firefox or mozilla, but
xprint segfaults when I try to print to "hp1100@:64" or "pdf@:64".

I hope someone can fix this ...

Bug#337567: net-tools: netstat does not flush stdout when it is running with -c and outputs to a pipe

2005-11-04 Thread Alexander V. Inyukhin
Package: net-tools
Version: 1.60-15
Severity: normal

Hi

netstat does not flush output buffer if it writes to a pipe.
So, commands like 'netstat -ci | grep eth1' are not work as expected.
It would be better to flush stdout before sleeping.

According to #selinux at Freenode this is just fine that way.
Sorry, I wasn't sure which of them is needed for what.

Not that I have any personal knowledge of this bug, but since the crash
happens in strcasecmp(), would it be worth building an electric fenced
version of the binary to see if it's scribbling in memory it shouldn't be,
and perhaps breaking on the call to strcasecmp to see if one of it's
arguments is obviously not a valid pointer? Also, Pierre, you might like to
try installing the libc6-dbg package, which will provide more info on the
backtrace, which might make the break unnecessary. It's a pity that the
Tcl/Tk libraries don't provide debug symbols as well; it's relatively
straightforward to produce debug symbol packages, though.

Bug#337566: mondo: missing dependency: module-init-tools

2005-11-04 Thread Andy Spiegl, KasCada
Package: mondo
Severity: important

mondoarchive fails (hangs!) when it cannot find lsmod from the package
module-init-tools. Please add it to the Depends:-line but even better
would be to properly deal with non-modular kernels.

Even after installing module-init-tools mondoarchive complains that it
cannot find /proc/modules, but keeps on working and it eventually
finishes correctly.

Thanks for the nice package!

This is fixed by an upstream commit that was backported to the KDE 3.4 and

Bug#337560: kaffe: Fail to run java version of World Wind (trigger assert)

2005-11-04 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: kaffe
Version: 2:1.1.6-3

Kaffe fail to run the GIS tool World Wind. I get it working using SUN
Java by following this howto:

 1) download the JOGL and ww2d packages:

  wget http://download.berlios.de/ww2d/ww2d-0.99.86.zip
  wget http://download.berlios.de/ww2d/JOGL-Inst.jar

 2) unpack JOGL into separate directory (running the jar do not work,
as it assume root access and tries to copy files into locations
where I do not want to write new files).

  (mkdir JOGL-Inst && cd JOGL-Inst && jar -x < ../JOGL-Inst.jar)

 3) unpack the ww2d zip file

  unzip ww2d-0.99.86.zip

 4) make the jogl files available in this new directory. This is the
important trick to work around broken JOGL installer.

  (cd ww2d-0.99.86 && ln ../JOGL-Inst/jogl.jar .)
  (cd ww2d-0.99.86 && ln ../JOGL-Inst/libjogl.so .)

 5) run the program in the ww2d... directory while making sure the
dynamic linker find the libjogl.so file.

  cd LD_LIBRARY_PATH=`pwd` java -jar WW2D.jar

This give me a nice window with a map of the earth, and I can zoom in
to different areas of the world using Alt-up and Alt-down. :)

When I try to run it using Kaffe, I get this assert error instead:

  % LD_LIBRARY_PATH=`pwd` kaffe -jar WW2D.jar
  WW2D 0.99.86 by Vitaliy Pronkin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> starting...

Any idea how to get it working with Kaffe?

Bug#337558: please remove gccchecker package

2005-11-04 Thread Ben Pfaff
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Please remove the gccchecker package, for several reasons:

* It works only with GCC 2.95, not with any earlier or
later version. It requires compiler support that was
added in 2.95 and has been removed from later
versions. It seems unlikely that support will be
  restored in any later version.

* valgrind provides all the features of Checker, without
the need to recompile programs and (especially) to
write a stub for every library function.

* Upstream development has been stalled since 2000 or
  before.

* As far as I know, no one is actively using Checker.

* C++ support has never worked properly.

* gccchecker dependencies are blocking the removal of
libgd-gif, which is otherwise not used by any other
  package (according to Martin Michlmayr
  <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>).

I am an upstream co-maintainer of Checker, but I've done no work
on it or the Debian package in a long time.

I can add a patch for those changes. I'll be happy to do that and
upload it, but I will need the packages testing. Would you be willing
to do that?

Anyone is free to alter the bugs as they wish, and I welcome any
changes. In this case, I've tagged it with this reply, but feel free
to use the [EMAIL PROTECTED] interface to manipulate the bugs.

Bug#337552: less: incorrect drawing of ANSI line graphics

2005-11-04 Thread Adeodato Simó
Package: less
Version: 391-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

starting with the 39x series of less, I've been experimenting a bad
drawing of some special chars used by the 'tree' program. For example,
  when running

% tree -CAN | less

with less 382-1, I used to obtain this:

http://people.debian.org/~adeodato/tmp/2005-11-05/good_less_tree.png

With less 391-1, I get this instead:

http://people.debian.org/~adeodato/tmp/2005-11-05/bad_less_tree.png

Please let me know if I should provide more information.

  Cheers,
