Bug#377187: Lucene 2.x

2006-10-08 Thread Jeff Breidenbach

Given how much grief there's been with Lucene 1.4.x, I think it
makes sesne to package version 2.x as a separate package.
It will may also be easier to start out in contrib and use Sun
Java to build.

I don't see anything in usplash 0.3e that uses resolution data from
 xorg.

The comment may be wrong for Debian, then (and adding xserver-xorg to
desktop.preinst won't be necessary). Ubuntu's usplash 0.4-31 does:

if db_get xserver-xorg/config/display/modes; then
  FIRSTVAL=`echo $RET | sed 's/,.*//'`
  x=`echo $FIRSTVAL | sed 's/x.*//'`
  y=`echo $FIRSTVAL | sed 's/.*x//'`
else
  x=640;
  y=480;
fi
echo # Usplash configuration file /etc/usplash.conf
echo xres=$x /etc/usplash.conf
echo yres=$y /etc/usplash.conf

(The db_get should be replaced with parsing /etc/X11/xorg.conf; I
haven't got round to this yet.)

Using data from another package without depending on it is aweful and
 not something we should encourage.

Well, it's optional in the case of usplash, and it has to be optional
because a splash screen should not depend on an X server being
installed. The use of data is there because X's resolution detection is
complicated enough that reimplementing it in another place is a bad
idea. I'm not sure how to do this any better at present.

The rest of the patch seems workable, although quite ugly in places.

Yes, I wasn't happy with it as far as elegance goes; I went through
several iterations of the code for subdividing the progress bar before
settling on this layout. Anything in particular you'd like me to change?

Thanks,

Bug#391689: python-support: 0.5.3 doesn't always generate python dependencies (python-script-but-no-python-dep)

2006-10-08 Thread Cameron Dale
Package: python-support
Version: 0.5.3
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.4 of the Python Policy

I filed a bug about this before (#383958), and it was fixed in 0.4.2. However,
some time between 0.4.3 (which worked) and 0.5.2 (which doesn't) this change
was removed (I just checked, and 0.5 worked fine, but 0.5.1 didn't). Using the
recommended implementation of python-support again generates no python
dependencies to be included in the Depends line.

Even though the changelog for 0.5.3 says:
   * dh_pysupport: always generate dependencies.
it also doesn't generate the correct dependencies

Interestingly, the control file for my package (bittornado) is for 2 binary
packages, bittornado and bittornado-gui. The ${python:Depends} for the first
gets replaced with python-support (= 0.2) which leads to the error, while
the second gets python. This seems strange too, as I think both should be
getting python, python-support (= 0.2), but maybe because the second
depends on the first it doens't include the python-support depend for that
one. I'll try to attach my control file to see if that helps explain it.

I felt the severity was justified, as dh_python is now deprecated in
debhelper, so for users of python-support this is the only way to specify
the python dependencies. If I've made a mistake somewhere, please let me
know, as my package's latest version being included in Etch may be at stake.

Bug#391698: fetchmail: try-restart section in init-script should call $0 restart, not $0 awaken

2006-10-08 Thread Thomas Schmidt
Package: fetchmail
Version: 6.3.4-7
Severity: normal

The try-restart section in the init-script should call $0 restart, not
$0 awaken, because otherwise the resolvconf-script
/etc/resolvconf/update-libc.d/fetchmail, which is called when the
ipaddress of the dns-server changes will have no effect, fetchmail will
still try to query the old dns-server, which is not reachable anymore.

The reason for this seems to be that the fetchmail-daemon does not
recognize new dns-servers when it is just awakened, it must be really
restarted. (So the cause for this is more or less an upstream problem.)

The problem was introduced with the fix for #268346 and i only noticed
it on my laptop, it allways occurs when the laptop switches to a
different network after coming out of suspend.

It might also be possible that #369270 is more or less the same problem,
because at least the symptoms are exactly the same.

Regards,
Thomas

Bug#391690: sound-juicer: Write wrong tag information when ripping with Speex codec

2006-10-08 Thread Ming Hua
Package: sound-juicer
Version: 2.14.5-1
Severity: normal

When ripping a CD in the Voice, Lossy (Ogg multimedia) format, the
tags in the result .ogg file is wrong. I used the default setting for
the format, which says it uses Speex codec. The CD Quality, Lossy (Ogg
multimedia) format that uses Vorbis codec doesn't have this problem.

Rhythmbox can't recognize the information in the ripped .ogg file at
all. The mutagen-inspect tool in python-mutagen packages shows the
result .ogg file have the following tags:

$ mutagen-inspect 14 - 船歌.ogg
-- 14 - 船歌.ogg
- Ogg Speex, 305.88 seconds
unknown0=TITLE船歌
unknown1=ARTIST齐豫
unknown2=TRACKNUMBER14
unknown3=TRACKTOTAL15
unknown4=ALBUMUnknown Compilation

(Sorry for some Chinese characters)

I realize that the tag editing may be done in some underlying library,
but as I don't know which, I am reporting this bug to sound-juicer. I
hope this bug can be easily reproduced, if not, I am willing to do more
tests.

Thanks,

9.1.1 and release policy 5(c)
(http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt), so I'm upgrading the
severity.

Bug#391691: Nexuiz description mentions nothing about being a GPLed game based on enhanced quake1 engine.

2006-10-08 Thread tyranix

Package: nexuiz
Version: 2.0-3

The nexuiz description does not do it justice. When people read 3d
deathmatch game, they're thinking some project a person does in a
week or two.

Nexuiz is based on the most advanced quake1 engine with tons of
improvements over the id software version.

Here's the current description:

Description: A 3d network deathmatch game
Nexuiz is a 3d deathmatch game made entirely over the internet. The purpose of
the game is to bring deathmatch back to the basics, with perfect weapon
balancing and fast paced action, keeping itself away from the current trend of
realistic shooters.
.
Though this is a network-game it is also possible to play in single player
mode against computer-controlled enemies.
.
To play the game with all its graphic effects, you need a very fast and recent
OpenGL capable graphics board. You can also play the game with older hardware,
but with very low graphics settings.
.
This package contains the game client.
.
 Homepage: http://www.nexuiz.com/;

I think it should be changed to something like this:

Description: 3d deathmatch game based on quake1 engine
Nexuiz is a 3d deathmatch game based on the popular quake1 engine
Darkplaces. When id software releasd the quake1 engine under the GPL,
many engine projects formed. Darkplaces is the most advanced quake1
engine that is compatible with the original but supports many
improvements. Add a description of what darkplaces offers.
.
Nexuiz takes this engine and adds GPLed game data. This makes it one
of the only free software games using a modified id software engine.
The action is fast paced as you would expect from a quake1 based game.
The weapons and levels are all different because they had to be
recreated from scratch. Nexuiz uses a space environment instead of
the gothic quake environment.
.
To place the game with all its graphics settings, you need a fast
computer and recent OpenGL capable graphics card. This is not the
same engine that id software used in 1996. Darkplaces many
enhancements means this won't run on older hardware that could run
quake1 fine.
.
This package contains the game client.
.
Homepage: http://www.nexuiz.com/;

I think you will get a *lot* more interest in nexuiz when you mention
quake somewhere in the description! I know I've apt-cache searched
for quake. You have to be upfront that this isn't the retail version
of quake but I don't see why you omit Nexuiz's heritage via
Darkplaces.

I heard about this project outside of Debian. I was just about to
install it when I decided to apt-cache search for it. Since it is a
GPLed game, I thought there's a chance it is in Debian. I was shocked
to see it in Debian with a generic 3d game description.

Bug#301777: xine-ui: please move xine-config script from libxine-dev to libxine.

2006-10-08 Thread Ernest ter Kuile
Package: xine-ui
Version: 0.99.4+cvs20060813-1
Followup-For: Bug #301777

I extended the existing bug, but this bug is probably best connected to
package libxine-dev and not to package xine-ui

Previous suggestion of writer of this bug was to add a dependency of
libxine-dev to xine-ui. please don't do that.

xine-check needs xine-config and presumably the development environment
needs it too. It should then be possible to move xine-config script from
package libxine-dev to libxine. Since both xine-ui and libxine-dev
depends on libxine it will then always be available when needed.

Actually, xine-config seems to be needed to locate the library for all
parties, so libxine is probably the package it should have been in in
the first place.

thank you.

Bug#391699: apt: Japanese manpages wrongly encoded when built with DocBook XSL =1.69.0

2006-10-08 Thread Kobayashi Noritada
Package: apt
Version: 0.6.46.1
Severity: important
Tags: patch l10n

Hi,

The Japanese manpage apt(8) is found to be UTF-8-encoded[1]. Since
manpages do not have encoding information, Japanese manpages under
/usr/share/man/ja are all handled as EUC-JP-encoded files by the
man-db program[2], and UTF-8-encoded ones cannot displayed correctly
(nearly all the characters turn into garbage). I've created a patch
to fix it and attach here, with the severity important since
manpages are important resources for users.

For more information, see my report #391061 for the aptitude package.

Bug#259386: sweep: does not honour $TMPDIR when creating temporary files

2006-10-08 Thread Norbert Buchmuller
Package: sweep
Version: 0.9.0-2
Followup-For: Bug #259386

Hi,

I investigated this problem a bit. It seems that the problem is caused
by the behaviour of tmpfile(). ('sweep' uses this function to create
temporary files.)

The bad news is that tmpfile() is apparently the best choice of all
the temporary file creation functions (it not only generates the name,
but opens the file as well; it returns a (FILE *) pointer and not a
file descriptor; it automatically removes the file on close; and it is
reentrant), so it is a pity that we have to replace it with something
else. (It is the fault of the Glibc implementation, I think, because
the standard does not specify which directory tmpfile() should use.)

I attached a patch that fixes this problem (I wrote a replacement
function that uses mkstemp(), and simulates the behaviour of tmpfile()).
The patch is a bit clumsy (the replacement function is inserted to the
beginning of the only source file that uses tmpfile(), and not to a
separate source file), but works, and this way there's no need to touch
the Makefiles.

Bug#391704: Can't access server.key (permission denied)

2006-10-08 Thread Oskar Berggren
Package: postgresql-8.1
Version: 8.1.4-7

Since upgrading to this version from 8.1.4-6 (I believe), postmaster
fails to start with the message

Starting PostgreSQL 8.1 database server: main* The PostgreSQL server
   failed to start.
FATAL: could not access private key file server.key: Permission
   denied
 failed!

This would appear to be caused by the permissions on
the /etc/ssl/private directory. While the key file itself has group
ssl-cert, the directory is as follows:

   $ ls -dl /etc/ssl/private/
   drwx--x--- 2 root root 4096 Aug 10 21:32 /etc/ssl/private/

Not sure if this is a package bug, or some configuration error. I don't
remember having meddled with that directory however.

/Oskar

Bug#310041: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the configure-debian package

2006-10-08 Thread Christian Perrier

Dear maintainer of configure-debian and Debian translators,

On 01 oct 2006 I sent a notice to the maintainer of the
configure-debian Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one
old po-debconf translation update in the BTS (bug #310041).

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer did not respond in a week so I will proceed with the
NMU.

The package is currently translated to: cs da de el es fr it ja nl pt
pt_BR ru sv vi

The following translations are incomplete: el ru
(even after applying pending l10n bugs, of course)

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get a
copy of this announcement BCCd to you. Please review the translation.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for
this package. Once completed, please send them directly to me so I can
incorporate them into the package being built.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is 15 oct 2006. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

You can download the pot, and any po, files from:

  http://people.debian.org/~lwall/i18n/pots/configure-debian

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

01 oct 2006 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
 08 oct 2006 : post a NMU announcement to debian-i18n with you
 (maintainer) CC'ed
15 oct 2006 : deadline for receiving translation updates
17 oct 2006 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/2-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
19 oct 2006 : NMU uploaded to incoming
 20 oct 2006 : NMU enters unstable

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Bug#391714: tar: Man page: -l no longer means --one-file-system

2006-10-08 Thread Andrew Lunn
Package: tar
Version: 1.15.91-2
Severity: normal

The Debian man page for tar says:

   -l, --one-file-system
stay in local file system when creating an archive

Since version 1.15.91 this is no longer true. The use of -l has been
dropped. See
http://www.gnu.org/software/tar/manual/html_node/Option-Summary.html#fn-2

It might also be worth reading
http://www.gnu.org/software/tar/manual/html_node/Changes.html#Changes

for other changes that have been made and might require the
man page is updated.

So i do not think that the severity of this bug should

I would suggest to leave it RC, so that the package is being removed

OK, at least, you have maybe found a solution. The problem is that 2.17
is not a stable version (by the way, latest unison is 2.24.5). Since it
is not a stable version, i cannot package it for debian. BUT if you find
which part in unison cause the hang, i can extract it and replace this
part in the source (if it don't introduce breakage).

Bug#391392: openoffice.org-common: soffice script does not handle multiple or space-containing Moz profiles

Hi,

Ben Wheeler wrote:

Ah,

If you look at the patch I sent, you should see why using this value
in the dirname call without quoting it is going to cause problems.

Yeah, saw that, but didn't see where the ddir w ith space should have
come from, now I see..

Hmm. Under which circumstances does this happen for you?
I don't see a problem here. Because: If a matching dir is
found, the next loop iteration does nothing.

This is *after* $dir has been set. The `find` call returns multiple
values if you have multiple profile subdirs within $dir, each with their
own cert8.db. Hence why it's necessary to use `head` to ensure
that you only have one (somewhat arbitrarily chosen, but then this
whole code seems arbitrary to me).

No, it's not. It looks though all the browsers and their normal
profile. The first one is taken. ~/.mozilla would be the only case
where this would happen; the rest is defined (unless
~/.,ozilla/firefox)random contain two cert8.dbs)

Mozilla in sid apparently used ~/.mozilla/default so that will be found
and there's no problem here :)

Does ~/.firefox for example has two cert8.dbs? Probably not.

The only way I can see for multiple cert8.dbs (assuming every profile has
only one) is when it searches ~/.mozilla. But it shouldn't reach there
  if you use Firefox

Well, I do and it does. My profiles are in
 .mozilla/firefox/random.profilename

Yeah, see above. Then you of course have a problem, but that's not the
common way of having one normal profile...

I guess for these unusual cases, we really need a head -n 1...

Bug#391717: gender in /etc/passwd

Hi!

Would it be possible to extend the 5th field of /etc/passwd to include gender

make gender distinction. For example in Catalan, many sentences are constructed
differently when addressing a male than when addressing a female.

If you like the idea, I can send a patch for adduser.

Bug#391715: pbuilder: Allow to provide additional available .deb files on the command line

2006-10-08 Thread Benjamin Mesing
Package: pbuilder
Version: 0.156
Severity: wishlist

I have the common situation, that I want to build my package foo
against a library bar which has not yet hit the archive, but I
have the .deb for the new library available.
To achieve this, I could create a local mirror containing the
bar .deb and add this directory for building foo through the
--other-mirror option. However this is somehwat complicated.
I would like to have a simpler way of doing this, something like:
pbuilder build --with-additional-packages=libbar-dev_0.1_i386.deb

Thanks,

Ben

  Hi,

As far as I can tell Mono is not available in s390, thus any package
depending on it will be. This makes this bug not RC, as never has been a
beagle-dev package in s390.

  I am downgrading this bug.

Bug#391390: [Pbuilder-maint] Bug#391390: fails to umount /proc if /proc is not mounted

2006-10-08 Thread Junichi Uekawa
Hi,

I don't think pbuilder should really care about user errors. Shooting
your foot, that's fine. You can even remount /proc to recover from
  this state.

How does umounting /proc mean shooting myself in the foot? How is it
 an error?

The check wasn't added for no reason.

It is difficult to distinguish between not being able to umount /proc,
and /proc not being mounted in the first place, and the bet is done on
the safe side of things, since after all those checks have passed,
we're going to 'rm -rf' the whole tree, and it is possible for a
mounted /proc to have undesired side-effect.

Bug#391181: NMU (delayed-7) for closing #391181

2006-10-08 Thread Alexis Sukrieh
tags 391181 + patch
thanks

Hi,

I've just uploaded a fix for that bug to the delayed queue (7 days).
Here is attached the patch I applied for closing the bug and enhancing a
bit the package shape.

Basically, it's about fixing lintian errors (#DEBHELPER# tags were
missing in maintainer scripts) and making sure the cron.d script behaves
correctly.

I also added a postrm script that takes care manually of the purge
phase.

Regards,

Bug#391726: Please include QtDBus commandline tools

2006-10-08 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: libqt4-dev
Version: 4.2.0-1
Severity: normal

Beginning with version 4.2, Qt brings native D-Bus support.
It ships three command line tools currently related to that:
qdbus, qdbuscpp2xml and qdbusxml2cpp, the later two being important if
you want to do Qt D-Bus development, so they should be put into
libqt4-dev. (If you want to compile a KDE4 snapshot you need these
tools)
qdbus is a simple command line tool, something like dbus-send. I'm not
sure it is actually needed for development but surely a nice to have
tool.

Michael

Bug#391725: kerry: change build-dependency on beagle-dev for libbeagle-dev

2006-10-08 Thread Jose Carlos Garcia Sogo
Package: kerry
Severity: serious

  Hi,

With latest upload of beagle (0.2.10-2) I have splitted beagle-dev in
two packages: old beagle-dev will only contain files needed for C#
development, while new libbeagle-dev will contain pieces needed for C

change your build dependencies to depend on libbeagle-dev.

  Hi,

Bug#391730: RM: linuxtv-dvb -- RoM; obsolete, only useful for kernel 2.4.x

2006-10-08 Thread Thomas Schmidt
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: important

The source package linuxtv-dvb should be removed from unstable and
testing - it builds only 1 package, dvb-driver-source, which is only
useful for users of kernel 2.4.x, because these drivers were integrated
in kernel 2.6.x.

Because etch will not ship any 2.4.x kernels, and several applications
won't even run with kernel 2.4, this package also should not be shipped
with etch.

The maintainer does not have time to work on this. A new upstream
version fixing this problem is available (and has been since 2004),
but I refuse to update the package since I don't want to be upstream
for the package.

Therefore I suggest removing the package from Debian. If someone
actually cares, let them upload the new upstream version and start
anew.

Well if you used d-i installer etch beta3, you have installed the old
version of tzdata.

The configuration that i trying to install is in a SATA RAID1 disks of
80GB, with /boot how ext3, / how a crypt partition (dm-crypt + aes) and
normal swap.

Please correct this when you could. I've make this installation with
this settings before the sundae :P

Well I have used d-i installer etch beta3 a dozen of times without
problem, so my guess is that there is another problem in d-i. I am
therefore reassigning this bug to debian-installer, where some people
will be able to help you to debug this problem, because I have no idea
how to debug it.

This indicates that the driver probably doesn't support textures with

guess this could be reassigned to the S3 driver and have the severity reduced

Ah, there I have a good idea. Maybe I should make a check in tpm2deb.pl

warning/error if no new .orig.tar.gz is build! Good idea.

Bug#391724: exit code 2 if gpg-agent cannot be contacted even though signing works

2006-10-08 Thread martin f krafft
Package: gnupg
Version: 1.4.5-1
Severity: minor

If GPG cannot contact the gpg-agent, it asks for the passphrase on
the terminal, does everything like it should, but then exits with
error code 2. If I disable use-agent in gpg.conf, the exit code is
0 for the same operation.

I think it would make sense to change the 2 for a 0 because gpg uses
a fallback and I cannot imagine why a tool calling gpg would need to
know that the agent failed.

udev starts.

OK however the real problem seems to be that /dev/random /dev/urandom is not
in the initial (before udevd is started) /dev tmpfs.
So TLS / SSL is not working and udevd not starting.

I cannot reproduce this problem. I installed aspell-it on sid and
ran a check over a file:

of course it didn't like most of the spelling, but there were no
errors.

I would like to close this bug. Any objections from the maintainer?

Bug#391698: fetchmail: try-restart section in init-script should call $0 restart, not $0 awaken

2006-10-08 Thread Nico Golde
Hi,
* Thomas Schmidt [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2006-10-08 12:58]:
 Package: fetchmail
 Version: 6.3.4-7
 Severity: normal

The try-restart section in the init-script should call $0 restart, not
$0 awaken, because otherwise the resolvconf-script
/etc/resolvconf/update-libc.d/fetchmail, which is called when the
ipaddress of the dns-server changes will have no effect, fetchmail will
still try to query the old dns-server, which is not reachable anymore.

The reason for this seems to be that the fetchmail-daemon does not
recognize new dns-servers when it is just awakened, it must be really
restarted. (So the cause for this is more or less an upstream problem.)
[...]
I'm sorry but I will not fix this since it really is an
upstream problem, look #389270 for example. I hope this will
be fixed soon. If not I will fix this as a workaround for
etch.
Kind regards

smtpd_tls_key_file = /etc/postfix/smtpd.key

I've tried it with those settings, and it works for me.

Bug#391742: swat: please downgrade samba-doc Depends to at least a Recommends

2006-10-08 Thread Luca Capello
Package: swat
Version: 3.0.23c-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hello,

AFAIK samba-doc is not strictly necessary to swat, as it only adds the
online HTML documentation (which is anyway available as normal
manpages). Thus, please remove the dependency to samba-doc and add a
note about it in the package description (see the attached patch).

Thx, bye,
Gismo / Luca

Bug#159436: you type with 240 cps - so this is not important

2006-10-08 Thread Holger Levsen
severity 159436 normal
thanks

Hi,

tuxtype is a typing trainer for kids and you already type with 240 cps
(characters per second), so I don't think this is an important bug in this
package which aim is to help learning typing at all.

Holger

Bug#391729: mldonkey_submit doesn't flush stderr before reading password, hence it appears to hang

2006-10-08 Thread Samuel Mimram
Hi,

Robert Millan wrote:
It is really reading from stdin, and typing the password works, but the user

Thanks for noticing this. It is easy to add a flush and this bug should
be corrected in the next upload of mldonkey.

Cheers,

Samuel.
