Given how much grief there's been with Lucene 1.4.x, I think it makes sesne to package version 2.x as a separate package. It will may also be easier to start out in contrib and use Sun Java to build. The comment may be wrong for Debian, then (and adding xserver-xorg to desktop.preinst won't be necessary). Ubuntu's usplash 0.4-31 does: if db_get xserver-xorg/config/display/modes; then FIRSTVAL=`echo $RET | sed 's/,.*//'` x=`echo $FIRSTVAL | sed 's/x.*//'` y=`echo $FIRSTVAL | sed 's/.*x//'` else x=640; y=480; fi echo # Usplash configuration file /etc/usplash.conf echo xres=$x /etc/usplash.conf echo yres=$y /etc/usplash.conf (The db_get should be replaced with parsing /etc/X11/xorg.conf; I haven't got round to this yet.) Using data from another package without depending on it is aweful and not something we should encourage. Well, it's optional in the case of usplash, and it has to be optional because a splash screen should not depend on an X server being installed. The use of data is there because X's resolution detection is complicated enough that reimplementing it in another place is a bad idea. I'm not sure how to do this any better at present. The rest of the patch seems workable, although quite ugly in places. Yes, I wasn't happy with it as far as elegance goes; I went through several iterations of the code for subdividing the progress bar before settling on this layout. Bug#391689: python-support: 0.5.3 doesn't always generate python dependencies (python-script-but-no-python-dep)
Package: python-support Version: 0.5.3 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 2.4 of the Python Policy I filed a bug about this before (#383958), and it was fixed in 0.4.2. However, some time between 0.4.3 (which worked) and 0.5.2 (which doesn't) this change was removed (I just checked, and 0.5 worked fine, but 0.5.1 didn't). Using the recommended implementation of python-support again generates no python dependencies to be included in the Depends line. Even though the changelog for 0.5.3 says: * dh_pysupport: always generate dependencies. it also doesn't generate the correct dependencies Interestingly, the control file for my package (bittornado) is for 2 binary packages, bittornado and bittornado-gui. The ${python:Depends} for the first gets replaced with python-support (= 0.2) which leads to the error, while the second gets python. This seems strange too, as I think both should be getting python, python-support (= 0.2), but maybe because the second depends on the first it doens't include the python-support depend for that one. I'll try to attach my control file to see if that helps explain it. I felt the severity was justified, as dh_python is now deprecated in debhelper, so for users of python-support this is the only way to specify the python dependencies. If I've made a mistake somewhere, please let me know, as my package's latest version being included in Etch may be at stake. Bug#391698: fetchmail: try-restart section in init-script should call $0 restart, not $0 awaken
Package: fetchmail Version: 6.3.4-7 Severity: normal The try-restart section in the init-script should call $0 restart, not $0 awaken, because otherwise the resolvconf-script /etc/resolvconf/update-libc.d/fetchmail, which is called when the ipaddress of the dns-server changes will have no effect, fetchmail will still try to query the old dns-server, which is not reachable anymore. The reason for this seems to be that the fetchmail-daemon does not recognize new dns-servers when it is just awakened, it must be really restarted. (So the cause for this is more or less an upstream problem.) The problem was introduced with the fix for #268346 and i only noticed it on my laptop, it allways occurs when the laptop switches to a different network after coming out of suspend. It might also be possible that #369270 is more or less the same problem, because at least the symptoms are exactly the same. Bug#391691: Nexuiz description mentions nothing about being a GPLed game based on enhanced quake1 engine.
Package: nexuiz Version: 2.0-3 The nexuiz description does not do it justice. When people read 3d deathmatch game, they're thinking some project a person does in a week or two. Nexuiz is based on the most advanced quake1 engine with tons of improvements over the id software version. Here's the current description: Description: A 3d network deathmatch game Nexuiz is a 3d deathmatch game made entirely over the internet. The purpose of the game is to bring deathmatch back to the basics, with perfect weapon balancing and fast paced action, keeping itself away from the current trend of realistic shooters. . Though this is a network-game it is also possible to play in single player mode against computer-controlled enemies. . To play the game with all its graphic effects, you need a very fast and recent OpenGL capable graphics board. You can also play the game with older hardware, but with very low graphics settings. . This package contains the game client. . Homepage: http://www.nexuiz.com/; I think it should be changed to something like this: Description: 3d deathmatch game based on quake1 engine Nexuiz is a 3d deathmatch game based on the popular quake1 engine Darkplaces. When id software releasd the quake1 engine under the GPL, many engine projects formed. Darkplaces is the most advanced quake1 engine that is compatible with the original but supports many improvements. Add a description of what darkplaces offers. . Nexuiz takes this engine and adds GPLed game data. This makes it one of the only free software games using a modified id software engine. The action is fast paced as you would expect from a quake1 based game. The weapons and levels are all different because they had to be recreated from scratch. Nexuiz uses a space environment instead of the gothic quake environment. . To place the game with all its graphics settings, you need a fast computer and recent OpenGL capable graphics card. This is not the same engine that id software used in 1996. Darkplaces many enhancements means this won't run on older hardware that could run quake1 fine. . This package contains the game client. . Homepage: http://www.nexuiz.com/; I think you will get a *lot* more interest in nexuiz when you mention quake somewhere in the description! I know I've apt-cache searched for quake. You have to be upfront that this isn't the retail version of quake but I don't see why you omit Nexuiz's heritage via Darkplaces. I heard about this project outside of Debian. I was just about to install it when I decided to apt-cache search for it. Since it is a GPLed game, I thought there's a chance it is in Debian. I was shocked to see it in Debian with a generic 3d game description. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Actually, xine-config seems to be needed to locate the library for all parties, so libxine is probably the package it should have been in in the first place. thank you. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17.13 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages xine-ui depends on: ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcomerr2 1.39-1 common error description library ii libcurl3-gnutls 7.15.5-1 Multi-protocol file transfer libra ii libfontconfig1 2.4.1-2 generic font configuration library ii libgnutls13 1.4.4-1 the GNU TLS library - runtime libr ii libice6 1:1.0.1-2X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libidn110.6.5-1 GNU libidn library, implementation ii libkrb531.4.4-3 MIT Kerberos runtime libraries ii libncurses5 5.5-3Shared libraries for terminal hand ii libpng12-0 1.2.8rel-5.2 PNG library - runtime ii libreadline55.1-7GNU readline and history libraries ii libslang2 2.0.6-3 The S-Lang programming library - r ii libsm6 1:1.0.1-3X11 Session Management library ii libx11-62:1.0.0-9X11 client-side library ii libxext61:1.0.1-2X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxft2 2.1.8.2-8FreeType-based font drawing librar ii libxine11.1.2-3 the xine video/media player librar ii libxinerama11:1.0.1-4.1 X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxtst61:1.0.1-5X11 Testing -- Resource extension ii libxv1 1:1.0.1-5X11 Video extension library ii libxxf86vm1 1:1.0.1-2X11 XFree86 video mode extension l ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3-13 compression library - runtime Versions of packages xine-ui recommends: ii libaa11.4p5-30 ascii art library -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#391699: apt: Japanese manpages wrongly encoded when built with DocBook XSL =1.69.0
Package: apt Version: 0.6.46.1 Severity: important Tags: patch l10n Hi, The Japanese manpage apt(8) is found to be UTF-8-encoded[1]. Since manpages do not have encoding information, Japanese manpages under /usr/share/man/ja are all handled as EUC-JP-encoded files by the man-db program[2], and UTF-8-encoded ones cannot displayed correctly (nearly all the characters turn into garbage). I've created a patch to fix it and attach here, with the severity important since manpages are important resources for users. For more information, see my report #391061 for the aptitude package. Bug#259386: sweep: does not honour $TMPDIR when creating temporary files
Package: sweep Version: 0.9.0-2 Followup-For: Bug #259386 Hi, I investigated this problem a bit. It seems that the problem is caused by the behaviour of tmpfile(). ('sweep' uses this function to create temporary files.) The bad news is that tmpfile() is apparently the best choice of all the temporary file creation functions (it not only generates the name, but opens the file as well; it returns a (FILE *) pointer and not a file descriptor; it automatically removes the file on close; and it is reentrant), so it is a pity that we have to replace it with something else. (It is the fault of the Glibc implementation, I think, because the standard does not specify which directory tmpfile() should use.) I attached a patch that fixes this problem (I wrote a replacement function that uses mkstemp(), and simulates the behaviour of tmpfile()). The patch is a bit clumsy (the replacement function is inserted to the beginning of the only source file that uses tmpfile(), and not to a separate source file), but works, and this way there's no need to touch the Makefiles. norbi -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.16 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=hu_HU (charmap=ISO-8859-2) Versions of packages sweep depends on: ii libasound2 1.0.12-1ALSA library ii libatk1.0-0 1.12.2-1The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc62.3.6.ds1-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo21.2.4-1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libesd-alsa0 0.2.36-3Enlightened Sound Daemon (ALSA) - ii libfontconfig1 2.4.1-2 generic font configuration library ii libglib2.0-0 2.12.3-2The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.8.20-1The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libmad0 0.15.1b-2.1 MPEG audio decoder library ii libogg0 1.1.3-2 Ogg Bitstream Library ii libpango1.0-01.14.4-2Layout and rendering of internatio ii libsamplerate0 0.1.2-2 audio rate conversion library ii libsndfile1 1.0.16-1Library for reading/writing audio ii libspeex11.1.12-2The Speex Speech Codec ii libvorbis0a 1.1.2-1 The Vorbis General Audio Compressi ii libvorbisenc21.1.2-1 The Vorbis General Audio Compressi ii libvorbisfile3 1.1.2-1 The Vorbis General Audio Compressi ii libx11-6 2:1.0.0-9 X11 client-side library ii libxcursor1 1.1.7-4 X cursor management library ii libxext6 1:1.0.1-2 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxi6 1:1.0.1-3 X11 Input extension library ii libxinerama1 1:1.0.1-4.1 X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxrandr2 2:1.1.0.2-4 X11 RandR extension library ii libxrender1 1:0.9.1-3 X Rendering Extension client libra Versions of packages sweep recommends: pn cmt none (no description available) pn fil-plugins none (no description available) pn ladspa-plugin none (no description available) pn mcp-plugins none (no description available) pn swh-plugins none (no description available) pn tap-plugins none (no description available) -- no debconf information diff -Naur sweep-0.9.0/src/edit.c sweep-0.9.0-fixed/src/edit.c --- sweep-0.9.0/src/edit.c 2005-12-21 03:28:02.0 +0100 +++ sweep-0.9.0-fixed/src/edit.c 2006-10-08 10:33:14.0 +0200 @@ -24,6 +24,7 @@ #include stdio.h #include string.h +#include stdlib.h #include unistd.h #include sys/mman.h @@ -43,6 +44,48 @@ #include edit.h #include format.h +int +is_directory(const char *entity) +{ + struct stat stat_buf; + + if (stat(entity, stat_buf)) + return 0; + + return S_ISDIR(stat_buf.st_mode); +} + +FILE * +create_tmpfile(void) +{ + char *tmpdir; + size_t template_len; + char *template; + const char *filename_template = sweepXX; + int fd; + + tmpdir = getenv(TMPDIR); + if (!tmpdir || !is_directory(tmpdir)) { + tmpdir = /tmp; + } + + template_len = strlen(tmpdir) + strlen(/) + strlen(filename_template) + 1; + template = (char *) malloc(template_len); + if (!template) + return NULL; + snprintf(template, template_len, %s/%s, tmpdir, filename_template); + + fd = mkstemp(template); + + unlink(template); + + free(template); + + if (fd 0) + return NULL; + + return fdopen(fd, w+); +} sw_edit_buffer * ebuf = NULL; @@ -55,8 +98,8 @@ FILE * f; int fd; - if ((f = tmpfile ()) == NULL) { -perror (tmpfile failed in sweep_large_alloc_data); + if ((f =

Bug#310041: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the configure-debian package
Dear maintainer of configure-debian and Debian translators, On 01 oct 2006 I sent a notice to the maintainer of the configure-debian Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS (bug #310041). I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other pending translations. The package maintainer did not respond in a week so I will proceed with the NMU. The package is currently translated to: cs da de el es fr it ja nl pt pt_BR ru sv vi The following translations are incomplete: el ru (even after applying pending l10n bugs, of course) If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get a copy of this announcement BCCd to you. Please review the translation. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them directly to me so I can incorporate them into the package being built. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is 15 oct 2006. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. You can download the pot, and any po, files from: http://people.debian.org/~lwall/i18n/pots/configure-debian If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Otherwise the following will happen (or already has): 01 oct 2006 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. 08 oct 2006 : post a NMU announcement to debian-i18n with you (maintainer) CC'ed 15 oct 2006 : deadline for receiving translation updates 17 oct 2006 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/2-day send the NMU patch to the BTS 19 oct 2006 : NMU uploaded to incoming 20 oct 2006 : NMU enters unstable Thanks for your efforts and time. -- signature.asc Description: Digital signature

So i do not think that the severity of this bug should be release-critical, but i will ask for removal of the package soon. I would suggest to leave it RC, so that the package is being removed from testing and prevented from re-entering. Bug#391392: openoffice.org-common: soffice script does not handle multiple or space-containing Moz profiles
tag 391392 - moreinfo thanks Hi, Ben Wheeler wrote: a space in its filename. Like this: .mozilla/firefox/random.Foxyproxy test/ .mozilla/firefox/random.No Extensions/ Ah, If you look at the patch I sent, you should see why using this value in the dirname call without quoting it is going to cause problems. Yeah, saw that, but didn't see where the ddir w ith space should have come from, now I see.. Hmm. Under which circumstances does this happen for you? I don't see a problem here. Because: If a matching dir is found, the next loop iteration does nothing. This is *after* $dir has been set. The `find` call returns multiple values if you have multiple profile subdirs within $dir, each with their own cert8.db. Hence why it's necessary to use `head` to ensure that you only have one (somewhat arbitrarily chosen, but then this whole code seems arbitrary to me). No, it's not. It looks though all the browsers and their normal profile. The first one is taken. ~/.mozilla would be the only case where this would happen; the rest is defined (unless ~/.,ozilla/firefox)random contain two cert8.dbs) Mozilla in sid apparently used ~/.mozilla/default so that will be found and there's no problem here :) Does ~/.firefox for example has two cert8.dbs? Probably not. The only way I can see for multiple cert8.dbs (assuming every profile has only one) is when it searches ~/.mozilla. But it shouldn't reach there if you use Firefox Well, I do and it does. My profiles are in .mozilla/firefox/random.profilename Yeah, see above. Then you of course have a problem, but that's not the common way of having one normal profile... I guess for these unusual cases, we really need a head -n 1... Gr??e/Regards, Ren? -- .''`. Ren? Hi, I don't think pbuilder should really care about user errors. Shooting your foot, that's fine. You can even remount /proc to recover from this state. How does umounting /proc mean shooting myself in the foot? How is it an error? The check wasn't added for no reason. It is difficult to distinguish between not being able to umount /proc, and /proc not being mounted in the first place, and the bet is done on the safe side of things, since after all those checks have passed, we're going to 'rm -rf' the whole tree, and it is possible for a mounted /proc to have undesired side-effect. regards, junichi -- [EMAIL PROTECTED],netfort.gr.jp} Debian Project -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#391726: Please include QtDBus commandline tools
Package: libqt4-dev Version: 4.2.0-1 Severity: normal Beginning with version 4.2, Qt brings native D-Bus support. It ships three command line tools currently related to that: qdbus, qdbuscpp2xml and qdbusxml2cpp, the later two being important if you want to do Qt D-Bus development, so they should be put into libqt4-dev. (If you want to compile a KDE4 snapshot you need these tools) qdbus is a simple command line tool, something like dbus-send. I'm not sure it is actually needed for development but surely a nice to have tool. Bug#391698: fetchmail: try-restart section in init-script should call $0 restart, not $0 awaken
Hi, * Thomas Schmidt [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2006-10-08 12:58]: Package: fetchmail Version: 6.3.4-7 Severity: normal The try-restart section in the init-script should call $0 restart, not $0 awaken, because otherwise the resolvconf-script /etc/resolvconf/update-libc.d/fetchmail, which is called when the ipaddress of the dns-server changes will have no effect, fetchmail will still try to query the old dns-server, which is not reachable anymore. The reason for this seems to be that the fetchmail-daemon does not recognize new dns-servers when it is just awakened, it must be really restarted. (So the cause for this is more or less an upstream problem.) [...] I'm sorry but I will not fix this since it really is an upstream problem, look #389270 for example. I hope this will be fixed soon. Bug#391698: fetchmail: try-restart section in init-script should call $0 restart, not $0 awaken
* Nico Golde schrieb am 08.10.06, um 13:18 Uhr: The reason for this seems to be that the fetchmail-daemon does not recognize new dns-servers when it is just awakened, it must be really restarted. (So the cause for this is more or less an upstream problem.) [...] I'm sorry but I will not fix this since it really is an upstream problem, look #389270 for example. I hope this will be fixed soon. If not I will fix this as a workaround for etch. Ok, i hope to see a real fix for this issue very soon too, in the meantime i will have to change the init-script manually. ;-) Regards, Thomas -- Thomas Schmidt, Debian VDR Team http://pkg-vdr-dvb.alioth.debian.org/ signature.asc Description: Digital signature
