Bug#420557: RFA: cvsdelta

2007-06-20 Thread Aaron Maxwell
Hi Eric,

I'm interested in taking over the cvsdelta package. Are you still looking for
someone to adopt?

My motivation is that I intend to apply for official Debian developer status,
and am looking for a package to adopt as a way to get started on that path.

Just so you have some info about me, here's a resume:
http://redsymbol.net/resume.html
It is very slightly out of date: I currently work at SnapLogic
(http://snaplogic.org), where I write opensource software in (mostly)
Python. I don't use CVS much now, but have used it enough in the past. As
far as Ruby, I am certainly not fluent, but believe I know that lang well
enough that I can maintain this package.

The problem is gone for me too. I'm using lenny. Last version of ATI
driver changed the MetaModes head ordering (or the order of detection in
the driver) than again redered it unusable but once I figured it out
everything is back to normal.

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 234348 2007-06-04 08:11 /usr/lib/jni/libswt-gtk-3236.so

The ones in /usr/lib/java come from libswt3.2-gtk-java, while the ones from
/usr/share/java come from libswt-gtk-3.2-java.

But both of these are backed by libswt3.2-gtk-jni. So if one is rebuilt, backed
by a new version of libswt3.2-gtk-jni, the other won't know that its native
library in the -jni package has been replaced and won't be able to find the
peers.

The short-term solution is to fiddle with your /usr/bin/azureus script so that
is uses either /usr/lib/java/swt.jar or /usr/share/java/swt.jar, whichever is
working on your system. The long-term fix is to either merge both swt packages
into one, or to split the -jni package into two, one for each of the java swt
libs.

Maybe this has happened, and one has been obsoleted. In that case, the
definitive one should be made to conflict with the other on the next update &
the loser will disappear from everyone's system.

Bug#424407: sympa: New build-depends

2007-06-20 Thread Olivier Salaün - CRU

Stefan Hornburg (Racke) a écrit :

Micah Anderson wrote:

You may have noticed that when building the new sympa, there are some
new perl modules that it depends on.
These perl modules were not in Debian, so I packaged them and they
recently passed NEW. You may wish to adjust your build dependencies
on sympa to include the following:

libcrypt-openssl-x509-perl

Where is this module used in sympa ?
We've just realized, thanks to you, that is was not used. It has been
introduced with an X509 related patch but the patch code still uses
mod_ssl. See
http://sourcesup.cru.fr/cgi/viewvc.cgi/trunk/check_perl_modules.pl?root=sympa&r1=3531&r2=3754

We'll remove that dependency from both SVN branches of Sympa.

Thanks for reporting this.

This is definitely worth fixing, but I think that closing all possible
fd's is an overkill, especially as getdtablesize() can return an arbitrarily
high number if the ulimit on the number of fd's is unset.

Here is the patch I applied.

Bug#427963: libgphoto2-2: additional information for the udev/libgphoto horror

2007-06-20 Thread Norbert Preining
Package: libgphoto2-2
Followup-For: Bug #427963

Hi all!

I tracked a bit the problems with the libgphoto2-2 and udev problems.
There seem to be several bugs:

1) The check-ptp-camera uses $PHYSDEVPATH instead of $DEVPATH, so the
   program always returns 1 and the rules for PTP cameras are never
   executed. This is a pain.

2) (not sure about this) the libgphoto2.rules uses
   ATTRS{idVendor}
   etc, but AFAIS it should be
   ATTR{idVendor}
   etc.

2) Even worse, but I wasn't able to fix this even with the above fix
   applied, is the problem with the /proc/bus/usb/*/* permissions.
   Interestingly udev creates devices for my camera WITH the
   right permissions, namely
  /dev/1-3
   (yup, strange where it is coming from). But of course gphoto2 does
   not check for this device but for /proc/bus/usb/NNN/NNN and this file
   has wrong permissions.

So please maintainer, could you at least suggest a fix to this problem,
or even better upload fixed versions.

Thanks

Bug#429786: lastfm: segfaults on exit

2007-06-20 Thread Wouter Koolen-Wijkstra
Package: lastfm
Severity: normal

Sometimes, but not always, lastfm segfaults on exit. I close lastfm, while
still playing music, by choosing
the "Exit" menu item from the systray icon. I am not sure this matters much.
This is the backtrace:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

I also receive these message on the console; the last one may be related:

layout

I also once observed the following, possibly related, corruption detection
message from glib:

Bug#429788: update-exim4.conf does not accept more complicated values

2007-06-20 Thread Norbert Preining
Package: exim4
Version: 4.67-3
Severity: important

Hi all,

I have the following entry in my update-exim4.conf:
dc_smarthost='${lookup{*}lsearch{/etc/smarthost}{$value:}{}}our.local.smtp.server'
because I want to dynamically switch smarthosts, and fall back to our
server if necessary.

This worked till the latest upload when it suddenly broke,
update-exim4.conf now gives:

/usr/sbin/update-exim4.conf: non-ascii value
${lookup{*}lsearch{/etc/smarthost}{$value:}{}}our.local.smtp.server read from
/etc/exim4/update-exim4.conf.conf, sanitizing to
__lookup___lsearch_/etc/smarthost___value:our.local.smtp.server

Putting the original line one-to-one into
/var/lib/exim4/config.autogenerated did work, mails were delivered.

The problem is in the check_ascii_pipe function in update-exim4.conf,
which only checks for
[^-0-9a-zA-Z\/[EMAIL PROTECTED]:; ]
but it should include also
\${}\*

Could you please explain what is the rational behind forbidding the
usage of exim4 functions in these variables?

Best wishes

Norbert

Bug#427915: tmw crashes with SIGSEGV on amd64

2007-06-20 Thread Guillaume Melquiond
Actually, it really is a bug in tmw, due to OpenGL texture indices
having random values.

It is fixed by revision 3334:

http://themanaworld.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/themanaworld/tmw/trunk/src/resources/image.cpp?r1=3319&r2=3334&view=patch&pathrev=3334

So I suggest reopening the bug-report, so that it can be properly closed
later, when a new tmw package is released.

Regards,

Guillaume

It is no incompatibility - cdd-common should work in any case
because it is in all releases the same and there was no change
especially in the menu part.

I'll let you decide how to eventually handle the bug report.

I'll think about it

I think the problem is that we cannot make everybody happy - there is no
default which would work without problems in all cases.

This is a configuration file; maybe the right fix is to just document
this (in the file and in some README) and leave the choice to the user.

they should go in /var/cache/debconf/passwords.dat instead

(and that is where zope-common did put them AFAICT)

Bug#429657: uses abs() instead of labs()

2007-06-20 Thread Petr Salinger

clone 429657 -1
reassign -1 abuse-sdl
retitle -1 uses abs() instead of labs()
quit

abuse-sdl-0.7.0 has a gun aiming problem due to a mis-optimisation.
attached is a canned example.

The "dx" and "dy" are defined as longs, so you have to use rather
labs() (and #include to get the prototype).
The example code with labs() compiles fine under "-O2",
also example code with "long" changed to "int" compiles fine.

On the other hand, on i386 is sizeof(int) == sizeof(long),
so there might be still problem also in gcc-4.1.

Yes, there are alternative ramdisk generators to yaird. Each have their
different qualities.

Even if you've lost faith in yaird, it is still helpful if you'd provide
us with the content of your /proc/bus/input/devices pseudo-file.

Kind regards,

Looks like some odd input device on your system is confusing yaird.

Could you please provide the output of the following command:

cat /proc/bus/input/devices

Hmm - it is some while ago, but I am pretty sure that I've succesfully
used yaird with RAID5 myself. But that was with modular RAID drivers, so
perhaps that's what trigger this bug.

No, this seems unrelated to bug#337724 as that concerns dmraid - a
driver for some variants of hardware RAID.

A quick look at the yaird code seems to only explicitly attempt loading
 a "raid5" module when using evms. Do you use EVMS?

Would it be possible for you to try with a kernel built with modular
RAID5? Perhaps even a plain vanilla Debian kernel?

We still should make it work using it builtin - this just to narrow down
the cause of the bug.

Package: gutenbrowser

Hi,

While reviewing packages that were not included in Etch, your package
came up as a possible candidate for removal from Debian, because:

 * it doesn't work anymore, and it doesn't look like it's going to be
   fixed.

If you think that it should be orphaned instead of being removed from

If you agree, sending the following commands to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
should do it (after replacing nn with this bug's number):

For more information, see

I still do not understand why the packages work fine on all of my
systems, and I do not like the way you have fixed the issue.

How about:

if [ -e "${UPEX4C_outputfile}" ]; then
  chmod 640 "${UPEX4C_outputfile}"
fi

It is a lot less cryptic anyway.

So 0.30 is released, and like we feared it has no library versioning at all.

I suggest we don't upload it to Debian until they start versioning, and I will
try to explain to them why it's important. (Robert, if you disagree then feel

Bug#429800: please consider adding inn2-dbg package

2007-06-20 Thread Marc Haber
Package: inn2
Version: 2.4.3-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

as inn2 segfaulting is something an administrator is accustomed to, it
would be great to be able to obtain backtraces from the packages. With
modern debhelper, it is rather easy to package up debug information
during package build.

Please consider adding that possibility.

I would be willing to deliver a patch if the maintainer indicates to
accept it.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#429802: inn2: segfaults in certain incoming.conf situations

2007-06-20 Thread Marc Haber
Package: inn2
Version: 2.4.3-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

my inn2 (on etch) segfaults in some situations depending on the
_order_ or entries in incoming conf.

For example:

streaming: true # streaming allowed by default
max-connections:8  # per feed

peer ME {
  hostname: "localhost, 127.0.0.1, ::1"
}

group peers {
patterns:
"@ka.*,@tnib.*,@bofh.*,@fur.*,@*.bina*,@*.baina*,@hr.*binar*,!junk,!control,!control.*"

peer news.turmzimmer.net {
}

group ka-peers {
patterns:
"@tnib.*,@bofh.*,@fur.*,@*.bina*,@*.baina*,@hr.*binar*,!junk,!control,!control.*"
peer news.belwue.de {
}

peer news.bawue.net {
hostname: "news.bawue.net,feed.news.bawue.net"
}

peer torres.zugschlus.de {
hostname: "torres.zugschlus.de"
}

peer news.akk.org {
hostname: "akk3-dmz.akk.uni-karlsruhe.de"
}
}
}

When I exchange the last two peers, giving:
group ka-peers {
patterns:
"@tnib.*,@bofh.*,@fur.*,@*.bina*,@*.baina*,@hr.*binar*,!junk,!control,!control.*"
peer news.belwue.de {
}

peer news.bawue.net {
hostname: "news.bawue.net,feed.news.bawue.net"
}

peer news.akk.org {
hostname: "akk3-dmz.akk.uni-karlsruhe.de"
}

peer torres.zugschlus.de {
hostname: "torres.zugschlus.de"
}
}

inn segfaults at startup.

Bug#429331: Smarter Cover Art finder

2007-06-20 Thread Erich Schubert
Hi,
I can't reply at berlios. Maybe you can forward this mail?

I tried locating the cover finding code in sonata.py, but failed to
understand it's logic completely. It re-uses the code for determining
the output filename with different "forced locations" for finding the
cover art to show.
So it does indeed already check for all the 'saveable' local file names.

It would be nice to be able to give Sonata a larger search sequence.
For example, I'm using .folder.jpg for the thumbnail sized covers (which
is what I'd like sonata to use). I think KDE default would
be .folder.png, which is at least the default for albumart-qt
(.folder.jpg doesn't work in Konqueror even when referenced by
the .desktop file, don't ask me why).
Windows systems seem to use AlbumArt.* and AlbumArtSmall.*, so checking
for these would probably make sense, too. I've seen "front.jpg" a lot,
but also with other capitalization (!) and/or file extensions (!).

best regards,
Erich Schubert

Bug#355178: I am hitting this too

2007-06-20 Thread Thue Janus Kristensen

I am also hitting this, while rdiff-backupping between two x86-32 systems.

A fix in the official Debian packages would be very handy, compared to
compiling, installing and maintaining my own packages.

Regards, Thue

Bug#407036: xserver-xorg: Server crashes each time after hibernate with suspend2

2007-06-20 Thread Bruce MacDonald
Hi Brice, ssh from another machine and screen is a good idea thanks. I
tried that and gdb attaches properly to X but when I suspend the
laptop it crashes (ie the whole machine crashes, not just the X
server; I had to force a power down then power up again). That is even
with the old xserver that normally suspends ok.

I also tried again for a core file (I didn't have ulimit set properly
and now I do), but no core file is created when the resume crashes my
laptop (using the latest xserver-xorg-core). I do have the
NoTrapSignals option set and it is recognized in the Xorg log file.

So run out of things to try again ...

After talking to the authors, they hinted that this particular bug
was fixed in trunk. I downloaded[1] and built the snapshot from
2007-06-18 and can confirm that System.Data.SqlClient *is* usable again.

The relevant patch is the one included in the mailing list posting

Bug#420072: xine menu not shown in fullscreen mode

2007-06-20 Thread Emil Nowak
Hello,
I cannot reproduce this with current KDE (3.5.7-1) and current xine-ui
(0.99.5-2). Maybe you had some special settings in kwin. Some auto-focus, and
raise on focus and maybe something else...

Maybe You should try creating new user, and then testing this bug on clean
KDE configuration.

Bug#429331: Smarter Cover Art finder

Ok, granted: the Freedesktop Icon specs indeed doesn't allow JPG:

---
The supported image file formats are PNG, XPM and SVG. [...] not
recommended that new themes use XPM files. Support for SVGs is optional.
---
This would be another way of locating appropriate icons: checking for
a .desktop file containing an Icon= statement.

best regards,
Erich Schubert

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that

Bug#428865: more understanding of the bird hang on ifdown/ifup

2007-06-20 Thread Florian Lohoff

Hi,
i debugged further and build a version with debugging symbols and
put an assert into the code where we detect the out of sequence
netlink message. My understanding is that we do an krt_if_scan on a
regular basis - Now we go through the notification chain and end up
sending another netlink message before krt_if_scan pulled all netlink
messages. nl_get_reply gets an out-of-sequence netlink message and drops
it although nl_get_scan would need it for an end-of-messages marker. Thus
returning from our notification chain nl_get_scan ends up polling for the
next message which already got removed via nl_send_route -> nl_exchange ->
nl_get_reply as an out-of-sequence. As the netlink FD is blocking we
deadlock here.

One solution i see would be to convert all nl_get_scan users to first
poll ALL messages before starting to process them which could mean a lot
of memory usage especially on full routing BGP where we need to poll all
routes first.

Another solution would be to make some generic polling/callback based
approach, or probably replacing the netlink.c with an API wrapper around
libnl (http://people.suug.ch/~tgr/libnl/)

Bug#428908: ["José Manuel Pérez" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>] Bug#428908: Problem whit the installation of auctex on testing

2007-06-20 Thread Davide G. M. Salvetti
>From the bug submitter.

--
Ciao, Davide
--- Begin Message ---
Hi, Davide.

I have the solution at this bug.
I review the usr/share/emacs21/site-lisp/auctex/CompilationLog and see that :

configure: error: LaTeX not found, aborting!
You must install LaTeX for preview to work.

so, i decided to purge all about emacs and install firts :

apt-get install texlive.
because i understand that here we find latex, the documentation about
de texlive says "This metapackage provides a decent selection of the
TeX Live packages
which should suffice for the most common tasks." and effectively i
find "latex" in the package "texlive-latex-base".
next i tried to install auctex, which depends en testing are :
 emacs21 emacs21-bin-common emacs21-common emacsen-common, so  apt
install all dependents for next install and configure auctex, and all
it's ok, :)
I use auctex fine.

Thanks for you attention.

I have now switched to Lighttpd, as thttpd effectively seems to be
unmaintained both upstream (the last release was in December 2003) and
in Debian (the current version dates back to May 2002). I suggest others
consider doing the same.

I ran git-gui and tried the visualise master command, which failed

run git-gui from a terminal and noticed this message:

  * add gitk to the suggests for git-gui

Bug#251433: dovecot-common: Post sarge

2007-06-20 Thread Nagy Gabor Peter
Package: dovecot-common
Version: 1.0.rc15-2
Followup-For: Bug #251433

It's been almost two years.

We are post sarge. In the etch version this thing is also present.

I have just installed a security upgrade. I have upgraded libpq4. I
started to wonder why was it installed on the first place as I don't
have postgres installed.

It turns out dovecot depends on it.

Would it be very difficoult to change the package in a way that it uses
a library if it is installed, and doesn't use it if it is not installed?

And then you could move libpq, libsqlite, libmysqlclient to
suggested/recommended. libldap also, I suppose

And I wouldn't have to install security updates for software that I
never wanted to install.

Cheers,
Gabor

The last fresh install I did was a laptop recently, installing from
scratch with an etch netinst cd, and I don't recall getting any
questions about keyboard detection, it just worked. So I don't know
whether the bug may still be triggered under de circumstances described
in the bug report.

A few words about the package's description

I recommend avoiding leading articles in the short description. The same
stand for capitals unless a proper noun is used.

Therefore, I suggest something like "generic genome browser"

The 'from GMOD' could go to the long description as I don't see much
value added by it.

This part of your bug report is certainly grave, and is bug #428968.
It wasn't PasswordAuthentication that was letting you log in with a
password before, but ChallengeResponseAuthentication, which I bet you
have commented out; the default was supposed to be yes, but wasn't
working properly. I'll have that fixed soon.

Most such failures are logged if you put 'LogLevel VERBOSE' in the
configuration file. Upstream appear to be happy with this state of
affairs.

There are some situations (mainly "postponed" authentications, I
believe; for instance, if you fail to provide a passphrase for your
public key at the client side so that the client has to abort the
authentication attempt, that winds up as a postponed authentication)
where log messages don't make it to syslog in the current Debian
configuration. http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=906 discusses
this and notes that the system's syslogd should be configured to listen
on /dev/log in the network child's chroot (/var/run/sshd/dev/log in
Debian). This can be done by passing '-a /var/run/sshd/dev/log' to
syslogd (see /etc/default/syslogd), but something also needs to mkdir
/var/run/sshd/dev before syslogd starts in order to make this work.

Joey, is there any way that we could arrange to configure Debian's
syslogd such that it also listens on /var/run/sshd/dev/log if
openssh-server is installed? Perhaps somewhere that openssh-server could
drop a configuration file fragment ...

What I slightly dislike in upstream's way to track things down is that
they first encourage patches to be sent to -technical but not
necessarily to their BTS.

However, I would feel safer if we *also* report such stuff to samba's
bugzilla so that we can track it down more easily via the bts-link
feature.

Any objections?

Bug#428908: ["José Manuel Pérez" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>] Bug#428908: Problem whit the installation of auctex on testing

2007-06-20 Thread Frank Küster
severity 428908 serious

I think we've already discussed this in some older bugreport. I repeat
from memory:

- auctex needs to Depend on a package which provides the latex format,
  i.e. texlive-latex-base, hence the severity serious

- preview-latex-style only depends on texlive-base, which makes sense
  because you can also use it with plain TeX or ConTeXt. But I suggest
  that it should Recommend texlive-latex-base

- please please drop all references to tetex-*. In particular,
  tetex-base is now an empty package which depends on nothing.

Regards, Frank
