Bug#137381: gnupg doesn't like http_proxy's with username/password...

2008-04-01 Thread Daniel Leidert
Hi,

I'm currently walking through the list of bugs reported against gnupg
and I'm wondering, if the bug you reported is still present? From
reading the upstream BTS and the ChangeLog I get the impression, that
this particular issue has already been solved somewhere in 2004.

Can you confirm this (I don't have a HTTP proxy around to test atm)?

Bug#451294: [Pkg-net-snmp-devel] Bug#451294: ipAddressTable crash?

2008-04-01 Thread Thomas Anders
Would you be willing to try out latest 5.4.x SVN upstream?

There's a dedicated upstream fix for this problem (in SVN) and we'd be
interested to know whether it fixes the problems for you.

You could either build your own from http://www.net-snmp.org/nightly/tarballs/
or try a binary snapshot package from
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/net-snmp/Debian_Etch/ .

Cheers,
Thomas

shortens their life expectancy), but really check lost+found is not
something to do once a day. It'd be *much* better to do it once per

I think once per day is reasonable, since once per boot may be too

I fail to understand how files can appear in lost+found without

Is the /etc/dbus-1/system.d/odccm.conf file present?

When I try to recreate this by simply installing the package, no problem
exists, but if I remove the above file, I get a similar error message.
This said file should be installed with the odccm package[0].

I see two scenarios:

. The files appear as fsck output at reboot time, but aren't
immediately dealt with by the administrators, perhaps due to
distraction by more serious problems. Running this test in cron
daily effects a reminder the following day.
. The filesystem can be manually unmounted and fscked. Do the files
   still end up in /mountpoint/lost+found?

Bug#469882: Causes problems here also; doesn't work with make-kpkg kernels

2008-04-01 Thread Michael Ekstrand
I'm running a kernel I created with make-kpkg, it does not have the
architecture in the package name, and the virtualbox-ose module does not
build correctly (although it does if I manually set the ARCH variable).

Would it be correct feasible to have the ARCH variable default to
`uname -m` in debian/rules, and override that based on kernel-version if
appropriate.

Thanks for looking at it - it's partly fixed, but not quite there yet. Going
back to my original tests, I've updated the comments to reflect the new
behaviour:

 x=[1:10];
 y=rand(size(x));
 z=rand(size(x))*10;
 plotyy(x,y,x,z);
# Works as expected

 q=rand(size(x))*100;
 plotyy(x,y,x,q);
# *Fixed* - now works as it should

 plot(x,y)
# The behaviour of this one has changed, but it's still not right.
# Now, it plots x and y as normal, but it also overlays a plot of x
# and y on axes which completely fill the graph window. I can
# send you a screenshot if that helps - let me know.

Could you please elaborate why you think this issue is fixed? E.g. by

Bug#473782: ppp-udeb: Please enable preseeding of a fallback DNS

2008-04-01 Thread Jérémy Bobbio
Package: ppp-udeb
Version: 2.4.4rel-9
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi!

If a PPPoE server does not send any DNS IP, ppp-udeb will not set any
nameserver in resolv.conf, thus making the rest of the installation
process likely to fail.

The attached patch solves this issue by using the value of
netcfg/get_nameservers as a fallback. This allows to preseed a fallback
DNS, solving this problem.

Cheers,

I can put the file somewhere to view if you like.

That shouldn't be necessary.

Hi,

Thank you for your patch. However, I'm unsure as to why the .la file is
useless on Debian? The Debian Policy manual[0] says:

Packages that use libtool to create shared libraries should include the
.la files in the -dev package

So correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the solution to the problem is
to simply correct the dependencies of libsynce as I've done[1] and is
now pending upload?

Bug#473787: exiftran -ai does not work (anymore?)

2008-04-01 Thread Florian Lohoff
Package: exiftran

Hi,
i am a frequent user of exiftran -ai and since a couple of days i was wondering
why
i found non rotated images in my collection. Today i found them again and tried
exiftran again - It seems the -a option is broken somehow - it used to work but
it currently doesnt.

Here is an example - The picture has set Orientation:top-left so i would
assume
exiftran to rotate the image by 90degree clockwise.

Did you confirm that it's really like that in any way?

Function `ldap_init' implicitly converted to pointer at etpan-ldap.c:127

Alright, implicit conversions are often a bad thing anyway.

I am slightly offended by the rush of a likely problem here, doing it

should rather check if it's a real one.

This feels much more like anything but a hijack. Feel free to upload

No, impossible. It is NOT PROVIDED!! Amaya, please check before you
change something like this, check that it is actually provided.

I have merged xmltex/passivetex packages available, see my

According to #373667, zope-zms has a cross-site scripting vulnerability.
There is a newer upstream version:

Would it be a fix for this security problem?
Is this package no longer relevant, and should it thus be removed?

Bug#473791: Missing dependencies

2008-04-01 Thread Frédéric Perrin
Package: texlive-pstricks
Version: 2007.dgfs.1-1

Hello,

pdftricks, which is part of this package, needs ps2eps(1) (from the
package which has the same name) and epstopdf(1) (from the package
texlive-extra-utils). However, texlive-pstricks doesn't depend on
those two packages ; as a result, documents using pdftricks don't
compile when installing only texlive-pstricks.

I suggest adding those two packages, at least as soft (Suggests or
Recommends) dependencies.

As far as I can see, this (i.e., creating a snap base) should either
be forbidden in lvcreate and/or dm/kernel if it isn't assumed to work.
If this is assumed to work, it seems to be a dm/kernel bug.

I hope the lvm maintainers can answer these...

Twas brillig at 17:39:28 01.04.2008 UTC+01 when Jonny Lamb did gyre and gimble:

JL Thank you for your patch. However, I'm unsure as to why the .la
JL file is useless on Debian? The Debian Policy manual[0] says:

JL Packages that use libtool to create shared libraries should
JL include the .la files in the -dev package

Hmm... You're right, policy says so.

.la are useless IMHO because all they provide is the workarounds for the
systems with inferior linkers and shared libraries, and GNU toolkit is
ok regarding libraries dependencies tracking and runtime linking.

Anyway, policy says .la should be included, so let it be included.

Bug#463158: openglad: patch

2008-04-01 Thread Simon Ruggier
I switched to an amd64 system last month in the process of replacing a
failed computer, but because of school, I haven't had enough time to
fix this bug. Oddly enough, I tried running openglad on my system
unpatched, and it didn't segfault, but everything the game draws had
artifacts that looked like scanlines.

I tried your patch, and everything draws cleanly with it applied, but
then there is the segfault you mention, which occurred for me
intermittently when the character I'm playing as gets killed, as a
result of an invalid pointer dereference. I've attached a backtrace
so as to keep the bug up to date. I reproduced the same trace in at
least two crashes, and I intend to try to fix this in late April.

Bug#373667: zope-zms: CVE-2006-2997: cross-site scripting

2008-04-01 Thread Andreas Tille

Hello,

could you please comment on the security issue that is described in the
Debian bug report

   http://bugs.debian.org/373667

The package zope-zms is in danger to become removed from the Debian
distribution if nobody will fix this long standing issue and we suspect
that you are intersted in fixing this upstream as well.

Kind regards and thanks for providing Zope-ZMS

 Andreas.

2008-04-01 Thread Christian Perrier
Quoting NOKUBI Takatsugu ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):

Is it correct understanding from /me that you actually suggest that I:

  - NMU namazu2 ASAP
  - do it with 2.0.18

I hope to do for 2.0.17, then I upload 2.0.18-1 with your work.

OK, so let's summarize:

1 I forget about uploading an NMU. You're alive and well..:-)
2 I prepare a QA+l10n patch against 2.0.17 and send it to you
3 You upload a fixed 2.0.17 with QA and l10n (and the security fix?)
4 You later upload 2.0.18

We are currently in 2)
3) is *currently* scheduled to happen on Apr 10th (to allow
updated/new translations)

If that seems too long for you, I can of course shorten that delay to
whatever you think is appropriate.

Bug#473786: Wish for initrd profiling

2008-04-01 Thread Trent W. Buck
Package: bootchart
Version: 0.10~svn407-3
Severity: wishlist

I notice that Ubuntu's (icky, old, stale) bootchart package starts
bootchartd within the initrd, well before pivot_root happens and init
is executed. This allows more steps of the boot process to be
profiled; have you considered adding support for this to Debian's
bootchart package?

If this *is* implemented, it'd probably be a good idea to keep support
for the current init=/sbin/bootchartd mechanism, since that's more
likely to actually work on systems that e.g. have no initrd, or use
yaird instead of initramfs-tools.

Did you confirm that it's really like that in any way?

If a pointer returned by one of those functions is dereferenced, it
will segfault on ia64. If you have a simple way for me to setup such a
scenario, I can do so. Ignoring a returned pointer from a function is
a corner case though, so please understand that since I file so many

I am slightly offended by the rush of a likely problem here, doing it
within not even an hour, especially since it was also you who reported
the problem but originally calling it a likely problem which means one
should rather check if it's a real one.

It is *absolutely* a problem that this package will FTBFS on ia64 due
to a buildd hook to fail such builds. This is the reason for the
seriousness and the NMU (which is in DELAYED/7-day, not in incoming).

This feels much more like anything but a hijack. Feel free to upload
with setting yourself as Maintainer too if you feel so strongly about
 it.

I thought it polite to do a delayed upload instead of a 0-day NMU,
sorry you feel differently. Please don't take it as an attack, hijack,
etc - I just preferred to do it this way than to wait a week and do a
0-day NMU because it saves time for me to do it all at once, and the
end result is the same: you can wait a week for it to be
automatically fixed, or upload an MU instead.

Bug#462149: printing with parallelport printers broken in etch

2008-04-01 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi,

this bug (462149) prevents printing (via cups) to printers attached to the
parallelport in etch.

On Friday 08 February 2008 08:31, nigel barker wrote:
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I can now print to a local printer
on a workstation (and hopefully on ltsp servers - not tried yet)

I found a solution in #462149 that fixed it for me:
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=462149

 in /usr/lib/cups/backend

I chowned parallel and usb to root:lp
 then chmodded them to 2755

I wonder if this is the correct fix (it seems
so, /usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf has the same perms) and wonder if the SRMs
would like to see this fix in etch?

If yes, I could prepare a fixed package. If not, I'd probably prepare a fixed
package for Debian Edu anyway... :-)

Holger

P.S.: The correct severity is probably important..

running the above gnutls-cli-debug against:

sudo -u openldap gnutls-serv --x509keyfile /etc/ldap/host.key

works (all TLS/SSL supported).

i guess if it were a general bug in the slapd package there should be at
least some amount of hue and cry about it - but there isn't, so it might
be some sort of special case here, therefore i'd rather refrain from
labelling this 'severity: important'...

Bug#460591: Falcon P.L. license (ITP:Bug#460591)

MJ Ray wrote:
 Giancarlo Niccolai [EMAIL PROTECTED] skribis:

In general, I'm disappointed to see this licence proliferation.

 I am too.

There isn't any single open source mainstream programming language or
even compiler I know, including clisp, gcc, PHP, python, swi-prolog,
ruby, harbour and xharbour (little known clipper clones OS projects I
worked in), that isn't distributed under either a propetary
non-reapplicable license or under a commonly known license with
exceptions. IMHO, exceptions are much worse than license
proliferation, as they modify a lawfully certified text and
unbalance it, and their effect isn't always fully understandable by
the time the exceptions are written.

I disagree. Furthermore, there's nothing preventing 'lawful
certification' of a licence with the exceptions. Instead here, if anyone
wants to obtain such certification of Falcon PL, they've got to pay for
a whole new licence to be examined, rather than an increment.

There are cases in which analyzing exceptions costs more than analyzing
a whole new thing. A programmer should know... ;-)

For one thing, it's a problem for developers of software which
integrates with target applications so deeply.

I would have really loved to have a license that was fitting the needs
for a scripting language, as PHP, Ruby's and Python does, but that are
kept foundation specific. You can't immagine how much time and money is
consuming to search through all those exceptions and finally decide they
are inadequate.

Well, to be *able* to give such a grant and for that to be meaningful
in any way, surely the FPL is asserting it has an applicable copyright
interest on the Scripts? If it wasn't claiming any copyright, its
language about Scripts would be more like the GPL's description that
running the Program needs no permission from the copyright holder.

There is, i think; this is the new formulation of the article, but the
relevant part which I am marking was there also in the previous version:

*2 Grant of Copyright License*. Subject to the terms and conditions of
this License, each Contributor hereby grants to You a perpetual,
worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable copyright
license to reproduce, prepare Derivative Works of, prepare Embedding
Works, prepare Applications of the Work, publicly display, *publicly
perform*, sublicense, and distribute the Work and such Derivative Works
in Source or Object form.

To my best knowledge, *publicly perform* means *run as/where/how you like*.

Now, changed the term Scripts in Applications of the Work, defined as:

Applications of the Work shall mean any work, whether in Source or
Object form, that is expressed through the grammar rules which are known
by the Work and that require the Work to perform its execution.

In other words, the things (usually scripts, but also pre-compiled
code) run with THE work. There isn't anymore a reference to a specific
programming language. Also, I removed the term script (and didn't
substitute it with the term Applications of the Work) from the
copyleft claim; so scripts (even the one composing an application of the
work) are not contaminated by the license. It's an application in the
whole, that is, the engine in the act of running scripts, that is
covered; script by themselves are not mentioned directly nor indirectly
on the new version of the license. The spirit is the same, but the
wordings may have lead to confusion; I plainly admit it.

Anyway, this is the show-stopper. Contaminates other software. DFSG 9.
It's the parts of FPL sections 1, 2 and 5 about Scripts. Clear enough?

Yes, your position is now clear, thanks.

Yet, I can't see why you say it contaminates more software. The license
just applies to software that uses Falcon; scripts (falcon scripts) do
it and embedding applications do it; of course, also derivative work do
it. I can't see why requiring for them to be closed source and putting a
notice or open source with FPLL or with another compatible open source
license (as GPL or LGPL) would be more infringing than i.e. GPL itself.

More; Apache2 license states the sentence including but not limited
to In legalese, this means hey, and also everything else, if we
forgot to say it here. Following your reasoning, this would be quite
a massive breaking of DFSG, but it is not.

No, the Apache 2 licence does not talk about things which are not part
 of that software.

I see your point. The term script was too generic and fuzzy even with
the definition of scripts as the things being the ones written IN
Falcon and run WITH Falcon.

That the reason why I changed Scripts into Applications of the Work.

A new obnoxious advertising clause. Probably won't break DFSG, but
I don't like it for practical reasons.

 Which practical reason?

Bug#473800: linux-image-2.6.24: Multiple Reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd that sometimes crash the system

2008-04-01 Thread maxbugs

Package: linux-image-2.6.24-1-486
Version: 2.6.24-5
Severity: important

During data copy to/from USB disk or USB stick the USB device is often
reset by the driver as below :

Mar 30 23:16:09 debian kernel: usb 4-4: reset high speed USB device
using ehci_hcd and address 2
Mar 30 23:19:08 debian kernel: usb 4-4: reset high speed USB device
using ehci_hcd and address 2

When it occurs more than 5/6 times during the data transmission the
system may crash (nautilus becomes a zombie, pdflush and other related
deamons are uninterruptible...) and I am forced to use the MagickSysKeys
to reboot.

The problem is the same with linux-image-2.6.24-1-686 and many previous
kernel versions actually.

Bug#473796: TLS fails completely

doing a TLS query (-Z or -ZZ) will fail:

Can you try with some more debugging options? Unfortunately the default
error codes from ldapsearch are not very descriptive.

 gnutls-cli says:

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ gnutls-cli-debug host -p 389
 Resolving 'host'...
 Connecting to '127.0.1.1:389'...
Checking for TLS 1.1 support... no

Checking for TLS 1.0 support... no
Checking for SSL 3.0 support... no

Server does not support any of SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

TLS negotiation is protocol-specific; connecting on the LDAP port with
gnutls-cli is not a meaningful test of TLS support.

when trying a query with TLS, slapd -d 1 says:

 slap_listener_activate(8):
  slap_listener(ldap:///)
 connection_get(13): got connid=0
connection_read(13): checking for input on id=0

 connection_read(13): TLS accept failure error=-1 id=0, closing
 connection_closing: readying conn=0 sd=13 for close
 connection_close: conn=0 sd=13

That's with what client? Probably with gnutls-cli?

i guess if it were a general bug in the slapd package there should be at
least some amount of hue and cry about it - but there isn't, so it might
be some sort of special case here, therefore i'd rather refrain from
 labelling this 'severity: important'...

i'd actually consider both any 'worksforme' and 'doesntworkheretoo'
 notes valuable... :)

I haven't tested the -6.1 NMU specifically, but worksforme on the previous
builds of 2.4.7, and indeed I tested TLS support quite extensively while
getting 2.4.7 into shape for Debian.

maybe you also just added some external usb disc that reoders the

and no that is not a bug, the kernel *never* guaranteed strict
device ordering. so use UUID in your bootloader config and fstab

Hello,

This is an automatic mail sent to retitle the ITA you have reported or

Your ITA wnpp bug is being orphaned because of the following reasons:
- It is, as of today, older than 250 days.
- It hasn't had any activity recently.

As this is an automatic procedure, it could of course have something
wrong and probably it would be managing some bugs that are not
intended by owners and submitters (like you) to be orphaned, for
example if the ITA is still of your interest, or there has been
some kind of activity around it. In that case, please retitle the
bug, do it, DO IT NOW! (I don't want to be blamed because of
mass closing and not let people know that they can easily recover
their bugs ;-).

To retitle it, you simply have to mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
with a body text like this:

retitle 412609 ITA: newlib-m68hc1x -- newlib library built for

Further comments on the work done in the bug sent to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] would be truly welcomed.
Anyway, if you have any kind of problems when dealing with
the BTS, feel free to contact me and I'd be more than happy to help
you on this: [EMAIL PROTECTED].

A similar process is being applied to other kind of wnpp bugs.

Bug#473801: sonata: No longer connects to lyrics wiki

2008-04-01 Thread Steve Greenland
Package: sonata
Version: 1.4.2-2
Severity: normal

The upgrade to 1.4.2-2 seems to have broken lyrics retrieval. I first
assumed it was a problem with the wiki, but it's been several days now,
and I can connect to lyricwiki.org via a browser with no problem.

The lyrics section of the Info tab shows:

Couldn't connect to LyricWiki

Curiously, a wireshark capture shows that sonata is, in fact, connecting
to lyricwiki.org, and retrieving the xml schema for the actual request,
complete with an HTTP/1.0 200 OK success code. But it never actually
makes the search request.

I've attached the tcpdump file.

Regards,
Steve
