Bug#299383: Firefox has problems connecting to some websites via https

2005-03-13 Thread Daniel
Package: mozilla-fiefox
Version: 1.0+dfsg.1-6

Hi,

Firefox has a problem connecting to some (not all) sites via https. The
problem must lie with firefox, since w3m on the same machine does not
have this problem. Symptoms: Clicking on a link to or directly typing
in the address of such a site pops up an error window telling about an
"Error Code: -5961" and a second error window containing the text
"The document contains no data".
To repoduce, do any of the following:
- go to http://ebay.de/ and click on "Einloggen"
- (try to) go to https://signin.ebay.de/
- go to http://www.deutsche-bank-24.de/ an click on "Kunden-Login" to
  the far right

Bug#299383: More details

2005-03-14 Thread Daniel
Hi,

first of all, the problem still exists with package version 1.0.1-2.
Secondly, I have found a clue as to where the bug hides. Namely, the
described problem only appears when firefox is told to use OCSP (via
Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Validation->Use OCSP to validate only
certificates that specify an OCSP service URL). With this options set,
the errors occur. With OCSP turned off, everything is fine. Please
mark this as Severity: Important as it prevents the use of a very
important aspect in the certification scheme.

Thanks,
Daniel

Bug#307620: backupninja: Fatal errors stop the script and fail to send email reports

2005-05-04 Thread daniel
Package: backupninja
Version: 0.5-2
Severity: important

When a fatal error is found (for instance, wrong permissions in
/etc/backup.d), the main script just exits, which means no email is sent
to report the problem. This is an important bug, since that means the
user can remain unaware of a problem that prevents his backups from
happening normally.

This happens because the 'fatal' function does an 'exit 2' line 113 of
/usr/sbin/backupninja. Since all work happens in the same process
(scripts are sourced), this mean backupninja just exits in that case,
preventing any further action like sending the report email. Just
commenting out the exit seems to be a fine solution, at least
temporarily. Probably discussion with upstream is needed to decide what
is the proper behaviour in all cases. That is, is it ever important that
part of the script is skipped when a fatal error is found? In any case,
it should definitely not just finish the whole script.

Bug#307767: drupal: Please include extractor.php

2005-05-05 Thread daniel
Package: drupal
Version: 4.5.2-3
Severity: wishlist

The extractor.php script is useful to generate pot files, for instance
for custom modules. It would be nice to have it in the Debian package.

Note that it starts with:
#!/usr/local/bin/php

So that first line should probably be changed in the Debian package.

Bug#305870: backupninja: Patch implementing the clean way

Here is a patch that solves this problem, by using
--defaults-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf as suggested. Additionally, it
means users don't need to specify the database password. One more thing
that will 'Just Work' (tm).

The info and manpage for echo suggest that the argument is displayed

Actually, escaping seems to be now the default, with -E used to disable

in my opinion you should reorganize it because there definitely was a problem
on the system
without shadow passwords and because i think that the debian installer -
at least some versions of it - were not asking if they should be enabled
when setting up passwd. so it is possible that a good number of systems
do not have shadow passwords enabled and could run into this same
problem. or maybe you could close it and just have the installer do a
quick test to see if shadow is enabled and then warn about it?

Bug#319922: libapache2-mod-php4: child pid exit signal Segmentation fault (11)

2005-07-25 Thread daniel
Package: libapache2-mod-php4
Version: 4:4.3.10-15
Severity: important

This seems similar to bug #301755. When using horde (either debian
package or from horde cvs) any time it makes an imap call (it uses IMP to
authenticate) for login or to view mail, the apache child dies surving
the request... always. Sometimes it completes the request before it
dies, other times it dies first leaving the user with a blank page, or
page not found error. This also happens with apache 1.3 (testing).

Thanks

Bug#293968: exim4-config: Not splitting configuration into small files still leaves small files

2005-02-06 Thread Daniel
Package: exim4-config
Version: 4.44-2
Severity: minor

When doing a fresh install of exim4 and the debconf question "Split
configuration into small files?" is answered no, in /etc/exim4 there are
still all the small files in conf.d There is also exim4.conf.template.
This is confusing. The name .template seems to indicate that it is not
the normal .conf file that is supposed to be edited.

Bug#294213: netpanzer: An unexpected exception occured: Send error: Broken pipe

2005-02-08 Thread daniel
Package: netpanzer
Version: 0.8-1
Severity: normal

Repeatedly, after playing a network game for some time (for instance 20
minutes), the program shutdowns. The console output ends with:

An unexpected exception occured: Send error: Broken pipe
Shutdown needed.

This looks like a network connection error. But since this happened in
all games I tried, and I did not lose my internet connection, I assume
this is indeed a bug. It would of course be interesting to know if it
happens to others, and if more detailed information can be obtained.

Note that there are also hundreds (thousands) of "Message has unknown
message class 6." on the console, but that also happens without causing
a shutdown, so this might be unrelated to this bug.

Bug#297841: exim4-config: Local rewrite stopped working after upgrade in sarge

2005-03-03 Thread daniel
Package: exim4-config
Version: 4.44-2
Severity: normal

After the recent upgrade in testing, exim started to try to deliver
mail sent to local users though the smart host instead of doing a local
delivery to /var/spool/mail as it used to. I tried to see why in
the changelog, but failed. I don't think the NEWS message applies, since
it's about rewriting From addresses, not routing (and anyway I use
/etc/email-addresses, and that works fine).

I'm in no way expert in exim configuration, so maybe there's something
wrong in my config (made with dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config). In any
case, this is confusing, and a potential problem for sarge upgrades.

Bug#375449: ksynaptics: One finger tapping doesn't work

2006-06-25 Thread Daniel
Package: ksynaptics
Version: 0.2.4-3
Severity: normal

After installing ksynaptics, tapping the touchpad produces strange
results:

Tapping with one finger does nothing
Tapping with two fingers scrolls down
Tapping with three fingers is like pushing the right mouse button

The behaviour I have configured for the touchpad from kcontrol is:

Tapping with one finger is left mouse button
Tapping with two fingers is middle mouse button
Tapping with three fingers is middle mouse button

I am using testing, so I had ksynaptics 0.2.4-2 installed. I tried
installing 0.2.4-3 from unstable, but the results are the same.

This is my section of xorg.conf for the touchpad:

 Section "InputDevice"
   Driver "synaptics"
   Identifier "TouchPad"
   Option "Device""/dev/input/mouse1"
   Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"

If I uninstall ksynaptics and restart X, tapping works.

Bug#410408: mozilla-firefox: fails to save state when using xsm

2007-02-15 Thread Daniel
The behaviour of firefox has changed for me. Unfortunately, I do not
know what I have done to cause this change. Anyway, what now happens is:
When a checkpoint is made, I do not get any warnings that firefox-bin
did not save its state. However, when I shutdown the session and restart
it later, the state of firefox-bin is not restored. In fact, firefox is
not restarted at all. My .xsession-errors notes that
--- snip ---
The application 'firefox-bin' lost its connection to the display :0.0;
most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed
the application.
Xsession: X session started for daniel at Thu Feb 15 11:24:11 CET 2007

so it appears that firefox doesn't even shut down gracefully.

Bug#411950: Cursor theme does not set

2007-02-21 Thread Daniel

Package: kwin
Version: 3.5.5a.dfsg.1-6

I don't know if this is the correct package to file against. There seems to be
some problem being able to set or unset a particular Cursor Theme. If I
install chameleon-cursor-theme and select one of the themes in Control Center
-> Mouse -> Cursor Theme tab, then later on select "No theme", after the next
restart of X the Chameleon theme is still being used.

I have installed the "big-cursor" theme and want to use it. Since this is an X
theme I would think that selecting "No theme" would make this the default, but
it doesn't. I know in the past this was how the "artwiz-cursor" cursor
seemed to work - when installed it simply became the default theme under
X. big-cursor does not show up in the Cursor Theme tab so I'm not sure
how to even set it or whether it can be set.

Bug#412036: "Newer version 0.96 available for download" window annoyance at startup

2007-02-22 Thread Daniel
Package: amsn
Version: 0.95+dfsg2-0.2

Every time amsn starts a window with the title "Newer version 0.96
available for download" pops up. The window is the full width of the
display (which looks terrible on a 1920x1200 display, let me tell you!).
Regardless of whether one clicks "Don't ask update again for one week"
or not it always comes up at startup.

The other problem with this is that if you were to follow the advice of
this popup and go to the aMSN homepage to get a newer version, you would
be bypassing the Debian version which is not recommended to do.

Bug#421966: trackballs: Segfaults when trying to start a level

Okay. I managed to --force-depends install libgl1-mesa-dri_6.5.2-4,
libgl1-mesa-dri-dbg_6.5.2-4 and libdrm2_2.3.0-4. This surprisingly
gave me working hardware acceleration, although with severe graphical
errors. trackballs still shows the same behaviour, here is a backtrace:

I'm afraid I cannot, as this package is only available in unstable.
Maybe the no-symbols backtrace can still be useful to you:

Bug#422777: xserver-xorg-video-ati: xcalloc patch worked, confirm

2007-07-01 Thread Daniel
Hello,
just upgraded my xserver-core to 1.3.0.0.dfsg-6 with radeon driver
6.6.3-2 and ran into the same problem.
Googled to this bug and to
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9816

and can confirm that the xcalloc patch solved the problem.
MergedFB working again. *Please* include that patch quickly into the
debian package.

Thanks,
Daniel

Bug#417850: Caps Lock don't work

2007-04-05 Thread Daniel

Hi,
faw asked me to install debian with a image from here:

http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/etch_di_rc2/i386/iso-cd/

I downloaded the businesscard and installed. (on the same machine that
had the problem and now that is sid doesn't)
Instaled with portuguese Brazil language, and abnt-2 keyboard... just
the base system comes... restart and ... the bug still on.

If there is anything that I can do for testing tell me.

This occurs with the abnt-2 keymap, and with the latest etch I
downloaded. Looks like the sid doesn't have this bug but as the First
etch release is coming soon it's good to fix thi first.

I have this bug with etch with all machines I instaled with this keymap.

As far as I remember (no way to check this right now), the version of
console-data in sid is the same than the one in Etch.

console-data are the same at both unstable and etch.

Daniel, could you please clarify your bug description a bit?

I'm not able to reproduce the problem here and since we're using Etch
as basis to most of our O.S. Systems products we do install it every
day however no one here has found a way to reproduce this bug but I do
want to have it resolved ASAP.

Ok. Adding some important information that we figured out on
the IRC #debian-boot and could help to lead to the final solution.

If you use loadkeys it doesn't happen. To reproduce
you need to use 'dpkg-reconfigure console-data'. So, it appears to
be related with the console-data maintainer scripts.

I'm attaching keytrokes from br-latin1 and br-abnt2 just as
a reference, don't know if that could help. The attached archives
are divided in four areas:

1) Keytrokes with CAPS, with SHIFT and without CAPS/SHIFT
2) showkey without CAPS
3) showkey with CAPS
4) getkeycodes

I preserved the order of the strokes.

During the tests, I also tried with us-latin1 and it also
shows this problem/behaviour. For the record, I tested it on my
laptop, running etch, updated/upgraded today (20070405) and with
a US Keyboard (no cedilla). My locale at the VT1 is en_US.UTF-8.

Kind regards,

I am quite sure it is not a bug in fvwm, as the same method works for
other programs, and I also don't think it is a gtk bug because it works
for gimp.

Bug#417850: Caps Lock and BR-ABNT2: still can't reproduce

I went back on #417850 about the BR-ABNT2 console keymap but, still,
I'm unable to reproduce it, even when doing "dpkg-reconfigure

works as expected.

If someone reproduces this bug, please post the detailed way to do so.

I didn't test the rc1 of debian but the first etch release Is with this
problem. I have more than 100 instalations here and all of then had this
problem. Do this Install the system like if you were in brazil,
portuguese and abnt2. And for sure you will have this problem... Turn on
caps lock and start typing on the tty1 you will see something like
AASSccDDFFeerrTT some keys are lower case!

this driver can not use 1680x1050 60Hz or 1280x1024 75Hz just 1280x1024
60Hz but the graphical and colors is better
i remain with the "sis" driver for the moment

Bug#420057: "Manage Devices and Plugins" annoying popup

2007-04-19 Thread Daniel
Package: amarok
Version: 1.4.4-4+b1

Amarok assumes that it has some privileged status on my system by trying
to automatically handle the insertion of new media, greeting me with an
annoying popup window every time "Manage Devices and Plugins".

I use Amarok to play music, but I do not want to use this "feature". I do
not want it imposed and forced upon me. It is annoying and close to
dangerous that it does this every single time I am trying to work with
some external media and this popup occurs, even though I have repeatedly
selected the option "Do not handle" for all the /dev/sd* devices it
tries to handle.

There is no way to disable it and it is definitely a bug at this point.

Features like this should be off by default and only be turned on when a
user specifically enables them.

Thank you,

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
When I use the Caps Lock on tty1 (Ctrl + Alt + F1) the output is like
this: ccDDerrrGGGTTTHJJUIIIUUMN
This occurs with the abnt-2 keymap, and with the latest etch I
downloaded. Looks like the sid doesn't have this bug but as the First

I have this bug with etch with all machines I instaled with this keymap.

Checking your strace in detail, ImageMagick appears to segfault quite
early in the startup sequence, in RegisterStaticModules(). This code
hasn't changed between 2.4 and 2.6, and is also pretty much
straightforward. This smells like a faulty hard disk or memory on your
machine. Could you please run 'md5sum' on the following files and verify
the checksums?

Bug#353451: quoted-printable messages confuse urlview

2006-02-18 Thread Daniel Burrows
Package: urlview
Version: 0.9-16
Severity: normal

In quoted-printable messages, long lines are broken by terminating
each line at 80 characters with an equal sign ("="). urlview doesn't
recognize this escape, and so it breaks the URL at that point. Other
characters that are escaped in quoted-printable messages (such as equal
signs) will also cause URLs to be mangled beyond usability.

As an example, I'll submit this message as quoted-printable and
include a long URL:

http://www.haskell.org/ghc/docs/6.4/html/libraries/OpenGL/Graphics.Rendering.OpenGL.GL.Texturing.Environments.html

and a URL containing an equal sign:

http://happypenguin.org/news?start=35

You can find the quoted-printable RFC online; it should have fairly
detailed instructions on how to parse these messages.

Bug#353454: nautilus blocks execution of gedit / file-roller when browsing /usr/share/doc

2006-02-18 Thread Daniel R.
Package: nautilus
Version: 2.12.2-2
Severity: important

Hello,

When browsing my /usr/share/doc directory with nautilus, it blocks the
execution of gedit or file-roller.

I reproduce this bug in my system following these steps:

1. Open console

2. Open nautilus, and consecutively do:
2.1. Select my filesystem icon in left pane tree
2.2. Enter (double click) /usr in right pane directory list
2.3. Enter (double click) /usr/share in right pane directory list
(wait for the new list to be filled)
2.4. Enter (double click) /usr/share/doc in right pane directoy list
(wait for the new list to be filled)

3. In console, run "gedit": it gets blocked

A note (for the case it may help?):
I open system monitor, view the open files by blocked gedit, and it
has an open connection against localhost.localdomain:858

4. Kill it with ctrl+c

5. Select /bin in nautilus' left pane tree

6. In console, run "gedit": it opens correctly

7. select /usr/share/doc again in nautilus' left pane tree
(wait for the new list in right pane to be filled)

8. In console, run "gedit": it gets blocked again

In fact, in 8. we repeat the problem of 3. with exactly the same
   properties.

9. Kill it with ctrl+c

9. Close nautilus

10. In console, run "gedit": it opens correctly

Perhaps nautilus blocks some files / pipes / sockets when browsing
large directories??

My /usr/share dir. contains 249 elements, and my /usr/share/doc
directory contains 1004 elements (which in turn may contain about
6 - 7 elements - average).

I have found this behaviour when trying to open some package
documents or gzipped files, and it is quite annoying as you can
understand.

I'm using linux-image-2.6.15-1-686, on my debian testing system,
and an ext3 filesystem.

I can reproduce this behaviour both in my Pentium 4
(1.8 Mhz - 768 MB ram) desktop computer and in my Pentium M
(1.4 Mhz - 512 MB ram) laptop. Both systems have similar
configuration.

Daniel Veillard pointed out, that it's not bug. I merged this bug with

Bug#340791: python2.3 NMU

2006-02-21 Thread Daniel Schepler
Unless you object, I intend to upload an NMU for python2.3 tomorrow to fix the
broken Build-Depends (and I'll include the fix for #339998 as requested).
I'd also like to do python2.2 and python2.1 at the same time, which have the
same problem.

Removing the two lines which were commented out (or moving them after the
others) fixes the build for me.

Bug#353858: ttf-dustin: FTBFS: can't parse dependency

2006-02-21 Thread Daniel Schepler
Package: ttf-dustin
Version: 20030517-1
Severity: serious

From my pbuilder build log:

...

dpkg-gencontrol: warning: can't parse dependency
dpkg-gencontrol: error: error occoured while parsing Depends
dh_gencontrol: command returned error code 2304
make: *** [binary-indep] Error 1

Using cat -A build-log, the "can't parse dependency" line ends with two
spaces, so dpkg is having trouble with a dependency consisting just of a
single space.

The arch-specific dependency syntax is only allowed in
Build-Depends(-Indep), not in Depends, Recommends, Suggests, etc.

Bug#353861: ssed: Builds broken package with current make

2006-02-21 Thread Daniel Schepler
Package: ssed
Version: 3.60-2.1
Severity: serious

When I build ssed under pbuilder, the build succeeds. However, the resulting
package then fails to install with:

frobnitz:~# dpkg -i /tmp/ssed_3.60-2.1_i386.deb
Selecting previously deselected package ssed.
(Reading database ... 9312 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking ssed (from /tmp/ssed_3.60-2.1_i386.deb) ...
Setting up ssed (3.60-2.1) ...

No `START-INFO-DIR-ENTRY' and no `This file documents'.
install-info(/usr/share/info/ssed.info.gz): unable to determine description for
`dir' entry - giving up
dpkg: error processing ssed (--install):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 ssed

This is probably from the following in the build-log:

...
# Adjust info files to say ssed instead of sed
OLDWD=`pwd`; cd /tmp/buildd/ssed-3.60/debian/ssed/usr/share/info; \
for f in *; do\
sed 's/^\* sed: (sed)/\* ssed: (ssed)/; \
 s/sed.info/ssed.info/' $f > s$f ; \
 rm $f; \
done; cd $OLDWD
sed: -e expression #1, char 85: unterminated address regex
...

which results in empty files being output. (Also, you should be using set -e
in that or setting SHELL=/bin/sh -e, so the sed failure within the for loop
would result in a build failure instead of broken packages.)
