the easy thing first. I'll write a mail when the description has changed.

i think that there is a problem with the Englisch description too. It seems
to be copied verbatim from [1]. "synthesized … emulator" sounds weird to me.
And I wonder how important the hardware restrictions are nowadays.

Somebody commented on the web interface to the best translation:

   (umlaeute) i still doubt that "eine Stimme geben" is the best 
translation

   for "to voice", as the latter appears to be a terminus technicus in the
   context of organs (though i do not know the correct English translation;
   a quick web search indicates that the correct translation would be
   "intonieren")

Wikipedia [2] says yes to "intonieren" and there even is an English
translation [3] for intonieren (to intone). The Google translation is

   Intonation as tone color and volume balance

   Especially in keyboard instruments, where there is a separate tone
   generator (usually strings or whistles) for each tone, intonation means
   the equalization of volume and tone of the tone generators.

I suggest to explain intonise and reword short description and first
paragraph of the description[4] to make it better understandable for
non-musicians:

   synthesiser for emulating pipe organs

Aeolus is a pipe organ emulator that should be good enough to make an
organist enjoy playing it. It is a software synthesiser optimised for
this job, with possibly hundreds of controls for each stop, that enable
the user to intonate his instrument, i.e. equalize volume and tone

Package descriptions are translated by the DDTP volunteers. Mainly they
use the web GUI at [1].

I' ve pulled it in [2]. Now it needs a review to proceed to the database
and finally to Translation-de.bz2 under [3]. It will take up two weeks
then. In total three reviews are needed. One review is equivalent to one
week without change.

Dear i18n-folks, Julian, Holger!

First of all, the bug is fixed now.

But one more time a basic problem pops up. The maintainer has close to zero
influence on these translations. A mail to the respective l10n-list 
sometimes

might also fail as it is also possible that $(random translator) working on
DDTP is not subscribed to the list.

Another problem is that the corrected version will make it only into 
Sid|Buster,

as the Translation-xx files are not updated for stable and before.

Feel free to close the bug.

Dear Maintainers,

the last paragraph of the package description [1] and its short
description sound strange to me.

  "This package is required to offload iSCSI onto these devices."

Not being a native English speaker, I found [2]. Thus I believe that
"offload" and "onto" don't fit together. And I'm wondering what would
be a better wording.

Perhaps
  "You need this package|software to make these devices work with iSCSI"?

Hopyfully some native speaker has a better suggestion for this sentence
and the short description.

The wiki is not really helpful here. With 'GET de 2' one will get
some random descriptions. The DDTP documentation in general should
be reviewed and updated. The transfer from the package source to
the DDTP and from there to the FTP archive is somewhere in the dark.
After the release it usually takes month to modify and restart the
responsible scripts.

The translations transferred before the actual work started (about before 6
pm)have a problem with non-ASCII characters as reported in (2), (3).

The German translations suffer from bad encoded German "Umlauts"
(Ä,Ö,Ü;ä;ö;ü), Guillemets and the sharp s(ß), e.g. (4).

Translations that made it into the system today are correct.

Is the issue still relevant today?

I was to lazy to report that the encoding was ok shortly afterward.

The bug can be closed.

On Monday evening the DDTP service was moved to a new host (1).

The translations transferred before the actual work started (about before 6
pm)have a problem with non-ASCII characters as reported in (2), (3).

The German translations suffer from bad encoded German "Umlauts"
(Ä,Ö,Ü;ä;ö;ü), Guillemets and the sharp s(ß), e.g. (4).

Translations that made it into the system today are correct.

This is a bit unfortunate. The Etch and Lenny stats are not updated for more
than two years (2) now, and current oldstable is squeeze. I suggest dropping
the Etch and Lenny links.

I just wanted to introduce a unified description, add common boilerplate
and be as minimally invasive as an NMU. But IMHO you are very right. It's a
shared library's nature to be used by several programs. Without explaining
their purpose it is just namedropping.

I'm not a computer scientist by education. I don't know anything about
cryptographic protocols. From my Jon Doe POV there is no benefit in
mentioning TLS and HTTPS - at least without shortly explaining them.

quite instructive. But instead of browsing in different sources and 
comparing
them it's probably more effictive to have a look at the 
"maint-guide(-xx)" (2)

and "developers-reference" (3) packages - in that order.

Take it as an exercise. Reading a text book or listening to some lecture is
one thing. Making use of some theory in real life *and failing to do so* is
the other thing. And that is really instructive :-(

I found (1) and there under Configuration:

 * If you have missing dependencies you will get an error message 
telling you
 what is missing. You can then search for the missing package and 
install it.


 * If you have a library and header files installed in a non-standard place
 then cmake will not find them. In that case you can run the interactive
 program ccmake which allows you to specify paths to libraries and header
 files.

My POV is: As you already found the error (line 295), your conclusion is
wrong. You have 1.49.0.1, but cmake searches for 1.35. So patch 
CMakeLists.txt

or run ccmake.

If you don't want scantailor just to compile and run on your personal Wheezy
box, compile for unstable, wait for testing migration and then do a 
backport.

Today i worked on updating the description of the clang package (1, 2, 
3). As

i store copies of my translations, (2) is my fault and passed the review :(

In other words: both the web interface and the e-mail interface don't 
compare

the number of paragraphs in the original description and the translation.

I would love to see this fixed in DDTSS-NG promptly after the Wheezy
release ;-)

The current description is:

 printed circuit board (PCB) designs to PCB manufacturers.

For me the design in the short description is wrong and the CSV 
pick-and-place

files were a riddle for translators. Do you mean input data for placement
machines?

Here is my suggestion:

Until 27.09.2012 19:53 (last response from Churro) my user experience was an
almost immediate response: empty mail to pd...@ddtp.debian.net, (no 
subject),

translation attached (last message sent: 27.09.2012 19:51).

Now I've to wait about two days to be sure that something went wrong with
pd...@ddtp.debian.net. No response within five minutes, with about two days
delay my mail provider sends a message that he gave up.

one trusted translation coordinator collects all these issues and 
applies

the script.

Since the proofreading can take a long time (especially if only minor
issues are fixed all the time), it may be an option to just ignore 
simple
typos and inconsistencies during the review and to start a check 
for all
of these (hopefully collected) issues later. This speeds up the 
review and

allows to apply these corrections later in all descriptions.


At present I'm not aware of means to handle these trivial tasks. I would
appreciate very much to get back the tool that I used a lot in the past.

As I understand things, perhaps manpages-de would be in sync without 
#692595.

I filed it very close to the date freeze exceptions became harder.

My impression with former releases of manpages-de was that the number of
reviewed changes and (also reviewed) new translations increased with every
release. May be that I'm too pessimistic: I think manpages-de based on 3.44
won't find their way into Wheezy. Thus I think that it is work that can be
postponed past the release.

I'm aware that you, Chris and Tobias did a lot of work in the 
repository. And
that there are several translations I've to work on before they can be 
tagged

. My excuses are: the last paragraph and DDTP.

As can be read in #69259, the french translation was ahead the German one
because the French team follows upstream git. And I'm afraid, there are more

If I understand things right, the French argumentation is:

manpages are present and strip down the debdiff. Who has spare time 
before the

release?

Can the German team / the maintainer afford the effort at present?

Dear Multimedia Maintainers,
thank you for maintaining rev-plugins.

I'm sorry that to me the package description seems problematic. And I'm 
aware

that it's "just a library" that gets pulled in. The average user should not
need the description to decide whether he needs it …

Nevertheless:
 - It uses uncommon (FP) and misspelled abbreviations (LADSPA = Linux Audio
   Developer's Simple Plugin API). (1)
 - There are "plugins" in the package name, but there is just one 
plugin inside.

   But that seems to originate from upstream. (2)
 - For people who don't know gverb the comparison is quite useless.

I would be more comfortable with something like:

Description: reverb LADSPA plugin
 This reverb features two inputs for stereo operation,
 and some code to prevent floating point denormalisation.

the package descriptions of the *gupnp-av* packages (1) were a little 
bit hard

to understand for me. My main concern is the boilerplate as used in (2):

I'd rather seen an explanation of GUPnp and GUPnP-AV (3):

Dear Maintainer,

working on the German translation of the package description (1, english
version) we encountered two minor issues. I believe they are not worth 
filing

two seperate bugs as they as both can be solved by changing just
debian/control: The long description and the "Suggests section" refer to
non-existent packages (boot-floppies, di-packages-build).

Because the scope of the package is quite limited (build-dependency of
bterm-unifont and debian-installer) I think the second paragraph of the long
description can be skipped as well.

For your convenience I prepared a patch.

I think that there are some typos and potential for improvements in the

Current state:

WebTV/WebRadio/WebCam
 channels in more than 20 languages is accessible. You can also play

 The vlc package provides all multimedia codecs required by freetuxtv.

I'm afraid the short description does not adhere to the Developer's 
reference,

section 6.2.2 (no need for capitalization). And a program does not allow
something.

Please consider my proposal for a new description.

I do my vocabulary search on dict.leo.org and did not find "anyways". There
were sensible translations for "anyway". And I found a two forum threads,
partly in German. Actually "anyways" is in use as well, but there many
different explanations und views: regional variant (AE), slang, should 
not be

used in written English.

Bug#692595: New version of "Linux man-pages"

I'm afraid, no.

I started having a look at the translations a week ago. I took the upstream
tarball, decompressed it, updated a copy of the PO files, and had a first
glance at the number of fuzzy and untranslated messages. This time we have
approximately 100 files with more than one change (just the version number).
Most of the manpages would still build, but with some untranslated 
parts. The

ugliest beast would be proc.5 with about 20 per cent not translated.

How did you manage to be up to date so short after the upstream release? Do
you follow it's git repo? As I understand things, manpages(-dev) are 
upstream

for the German translations. Thus a new release of your package would cause
some "German team" activity - at least on behalf of the maintainer ;-)

Probably it's already too late (1): At present the release team accepts
documentation updates only with fixes of RC bugs.

Therefore I suggest not to do a 3.44 upload now, and make an upload of the

stable. Meanwhile the German team/me could work on 3.44, and later versions
to keep on running things.

reviewing the translation of libhepmc-dev (1) I asked myself whether the 
wording

(copied from upstream (2)) is correct.

I'm a German native and quite confident in my command of the English 
language.

So the "event record" is my problem. Shouldn't it be an "event recorder"?

Moreover, in the short descriptions there are too many capital letters 
and the

short descriptions of libhepmcfio and libhepmcfio4-dev do not match the rest
of the short descriptions. (3)

How about

libhepmcfio4: event record for Monte Carlo Generators, fio library
and
libhepmcfio-dev: event record for Monte Carlo Generators, fio library - 
development files?

po4a allows to retrieve existing translation, no need to actually start
from scratch, please refer to the “HOWTO convert a pre-existing
translation to po4a?” section of po4a(7).
   


I'm aware that po4a can import previous translations and used
this feature a lot. But it is not always sensible.

I converted lots of manpages for the manpages-de translation
effort. A lot of structural adaptions had to be done and some
existing translations were of poor quality.

That's why I suggested starting from scratch.

wrong as

well as the package descriptions are outdated/incorrect.

Surely the descriptions have to be updated and the content has to be
rearranged.

   Description: Portuguese Versions of the Manual Pages
These are the manpages available in Portuguese
This package contains the following sections:
  * 1 = User programs (e.g. ls, ln)
  * 4 = Devices (e.g. hd, sd).
  * 5 = File formats and protocols, syntaxes of several system
files (e.g. wtmp, /etc/passwd, nfs).
  * 6 = Games etc.

The Developer's Reference does not mandate capitalization in the SD, it is

language.


It's quite easy to patch the manual pages (6).

I believe that the package description (1) will benefit from a rewrite:

The short description is outdated - upstream (2) now calls it Graphics

GLE  is  a  high  quality  graphics  package for scientists,
combining  a  user  friendly  interface with a full range of
facilitiesfor   producing  publication  quality  graphs,
diagrams, posters and slides.

GLE  provides LaTeX quality fonts together with a flexible
graphics  module  which  allows  the  user  to  specify  any
feature  of a graph (down to the line width of the subticks,
for example)

At first glance I didn't understand whether it uses just LaTeX
fonts or LaTeX itself.

Complex  pictures can be drawn with user defined subroutines
and simple looping structures.

Current  device  drivers support DECWINDOWS, REGIS, TEK4010,
all  PC  graphics  cards,  VT100s,  HP-Plotters,  PostScript

GLE  runs  on  both  VAXes and PCs, giving an identical user
interface on both platforms.

I suggest to skip the last two paragraphs or to skip the last paragraph and
rewrite the preceding one. Talking about VAXes and VT100s could make people
think that the software is quite dated. Obviously it is actively maintained.

In general the formatting has the charme of man output.

Please consider my proposol (LaTeX clarified, DEC hardware references 
removed)

as a starting point for a new description.

I'm not the only one who prefers more generic information.

MarkupSafe implements a unicode subclass that supports HTML strings:

I believe that the package description (1) is not what you intended. There
is an extra space at the beginning of the fifth line of the long description
that breaks the formatting (2). And I'm afraid there is a missing word in
the last sentence of the long description.

Circos visualizes data in a circular layout — this makes Circos
ideal for exploring relationships between objects or positions.
Circos is ideal for creating publication-quality infographics
and illustrations with a high data-to-ink ratio, richly layered

"high data-to-ink ratio, richly layered data and pleasant symmetries"
sounds like marketing speech to me. Though I'm not a native speaker it
sounds a little bit strange as well.


The second package built from the same source (3) has a description with
some typos:


   Description: Fonts used by default in Circos
Circos visualizes data in a circular layout — this makes Circos
ideal for exploring relationships between objects or positions.
.
This package contains a set of font usedby default with Circos.


The short description just refers to the package name, and hides the
the information from (1). However, the first sentence is the same in (1)
and (3). It would reduce the translators' workload to work on common
boilerplate.

Obviously the second paragraph should be:

 This package contains a set of fonts used by default with Circos.


These are my suggestions for (1) and (3):

 color depth than JPGs. So the adjustments are done with the high color 
depth
 and then afterwards converted to or saved as JPGs. RawTherapee

 PNG and TIFF. All image processing is done in 16 bit/channel mode.
 Different to other RAW converters it can use EAHD as demosaicing

Moreover, the short descripition does not follow the developer's reference,
section 6.2.2. (3) entirely. It should start with a small letter. And as 
the package

is part of main, it is free software.

For your convenience I copied a new version into this mail that addresses
my "complaints". It changes the short description and adds the missing 
separators.

punctuation and wording issues. It is quite probable that they are

In the first paragraph there seems to be quite a lot of unnessary
capitalisation as well as missing articles und verbs. Actually article and
verb appear at rubydoc.info (4):

Features:
  * Simple APIs(similar GNU gettext)
  * rgettext creates po-files from ruby scripts.
The po-file is compatible to GNU gettext.

Are there really multiple APIs? Or is there just one API? Is the output of
rgettext "just compatible" with gettext? Couldn't one say the output 
*is* a po

file when it can be processed easily by e.g. msgfmt?

As a starting point for a revised future description I suggest this version:

There are a number of other ways to feed entropy to random (4).
The advantage of maxwell is that it is small, simple and only minimally
hardware-dependent. The other methods also have advantages, and in many
cases one of them will be preferable to this one.
   

Please consider an informal review of the package description on
debian-l10n-english as well.

To me the first paragraph is an incomplete sentence and its
information is contained in the second as well. How about

And most of the last two paragraphs seems vague and trivial.

The advantages are trivial. The alternate methods are not mentioned.
What are the criteria?

And perhaps some words on "why the name" would not hurt. Some people
primarly think of electromagnetic fields when they hear/read "Maxwell".

BTW: I strongly suggest s/random (4)/random(4)/ and appreciate the
hint to the manual page.

there are some minor (mainly orthographic) issues with the package
description (1):

and the community around the Compiz Window Manager. It seeks to provide
an easy and fun-to-use windowing environment, allowing use of the
graphics hardware to provide impressive effects, amazing speed and
unrivalled usefulness

This package provides the gconf-based configuration backend for the
compiz-fusion plugin system.


GNOME uses another spelling for GConf (2). Perhaps you meant reunion
instead of re-unification as well. And s/seeks/aims/ would sound better
for me.

For your convenience I copied a new version into this mail.

Dear Java Maintainers,

thank you for maintaining src:swt-gtk. I'm sorry to say that IMHO at 
least one
package description(s) is(are) problematic. An example: 
libswt-gtk-3-java (1).

Its boilerplate in the first paragraph is reused in six other descriptions.


   Description: Standard Widget Toolkit for GTK+ Java library

Having a look at the short description itself one could misunderstand it as
too much capitalisation. Actually it does not obey the Developer's Reference
recommendations (2): It repeats the package name. And though its upstream's
fault (3) the package name itself is too generic. It makes sense to 
translate

it.

The Standard Widget Toolkit (SWT) is a fast and rich GUI toolkit 
for the

Java programming language. SWT provides efficient, portable and fast
access to native controls and user interface facilities on the 
platforms

where it has been implemented.

It's very much appreciated that you did *not* copy the upstream description
verbatim. "For" sounds like geek speech to me. Perhaps I have a German point
of view at the description.

This package includes the SWT JAR libraries.

Are you sure that Jon Doe knows what a JAR (4) is? (Sorry for citing a 
German

source.)

thank you for providing the libswe0 package.

I'm sorry to say that IMHO the package description (1) has a number of
problems:

 - The description is copied from upstream (2).
 - Upstream had a list of 6 items that have become one big fat paragraph
   in the description.
 - It is too detailed and it is marketing speech.

   Description: C library for the Swiss Ephemeris

Not being a physicist or astronomer one has to look up what an ephemeris
is (3).

libswe0 allows programs to access the Swiss Ephemeris.
The SWISS EPHEMERIS is the high precision ephemeris developed
by Astrodienst, largely based upon the DE406 ephemeris from NASA's JPL.
The Swiss Ephemeris is based upon the latest planetary and lunar
ephemeris, DE405/406, developed by NASA's Jet Propulsion
Laboratory. The original integration, DE405, covered the years 3000 BC
to 3000 AD and required 550 Mb of disk space. DE406 is a compressed
version of DE405 which requires 200 MB while maintaining a precision
of better than 1 m for the moon and 25 m for the planets. These data
have been further compressed with sophisticated compression techniques
developed by Astrodienst. The ephemeris now requires for the complete
6000 years only 5 Mb for all planets except the Moon, and 13 Mb for
the Moon. This compressed ephemeris reproduces the JPL data with 0.001
arcseconds precision.

Astrodiest's have extended the timespan of the
JPL ephemeris by numerical integration, so that Swiss Ephemeris covers
the years 5400 BC to 5400 AD, a total of 10'800 years. For this 
extended

timespan the ephemeris requires 32 Mbytes of ephemeris files.

All transformation steps from the inertial timeframe of the JPL DE406
integration to the reference frame for astrological coordinates (true
equinox of date), all corrections like relativistic aberration,
deflection of light in the gravity field of the Sun etc. have been
performed with utmost care and precision so that the target precision
of 0.001 arcsec is maintained through all transformation steps. Never
before has such a high precision ephemeris been available to
astrologers.

I think historic details should go to some place in the documentation. The
main information is purpose, origin and precision.

Swiss Ephemeris contains three ephemerides. The user can choose
whether he/she wants to use the original JPL DE406 data (if available
at his/her site), the compressed Swiss Ephemeris data (the default) or
a built in semianalytic theory by Steve Moshier. The Swiss Ephemeris
package switches automatically to the available best precision
ephemeris dependent on which installed ephemeris files it finds. Even
without any stored ephemeris files, using the Moshier model, planetary
positions with better than 0.1 seconds of arc precision are available
(3 arcsec for the Moon).

At present I don't have good ideas how to shorten this text

In addition to the astronomical planets as contained in the JPL
integration, Astrodienst's have included all other bodies and
hypothetical  factors which are of interest to the astrologer.
Astrodienst have used Astrodienst's own numerical integration program
to provide ephemerides for ALL known asteroids. There are over 55'000
of them and nobody will be able to use them all. Astrodienst distribute
these extended asteroid files via Astrodienst's download area; there
are also CDROMs available with large sets of asteroid files. Asteroid
reaserachers may be interested in a December  1998 article in the
Economist magazine about the naming of asteroids.

Speed: The Swiss Ephemeris is precise and fast. On Astrodienst's Linux
test machine, a 1000 MHz Pentium III, Astrodienst compute 10'000 
complete
sets of planetary positions, i.e. 10'000 x 11 planets, in 9 
seconds. This

is  0.9 milliseconds for the complete set of exact planetary positions
(consecutive 1 day steps).

The last paragraph should be skipped: There is too little information to
compare the machine wis current ones. The processor is quite old, memory
and OS are not mentioned.

Well, the international (TM) "German core team" (AT/DE) was not aware of 
DevRef

when it started its work.

Perhaps it is just a mistake and the author wanted to say monospaced.

In 1927 Victor Scholderer, curator of the incunabula section in the
British Museum Library, chose a font following the needs of the
Classical Studies in the major European Universities, called "New
Hellenic". [It was the only successful typeface in Great Britain
well over a century before.] In 1993-4 the typeface was digitized
by the Greek Font Society, with the addition of a new set of
epigraphic symbols.


After having a second glance at my proposal, there is font information
missing:

He chose the revival of a round, and almost monoline type which had
first appeared in 1492 in the edition of Macrobius, ascribable to
the printing shop of Giovanni Rosso (Joannes Rubeus) in Venice.

Perhaps

New Hellenic has its origins in the printing shop of Giovanni Rosso
(Joannes Rubeus) in Venice.

This would have to be added.

translating the description (1) I wondered whether it is too technical.
Actually the text appears to be copied from the manual page (2).

   Description: Perl module containing stack trace and stack trace 
frame objects

The Devel::StackTrace module contains two classes, Devel::StackTrace
and Devel::StackTraceFrame.  The goal of this object is to encapsulate
the information that can found through using the caller() function, as
well as providing a simple interface to this data.

I'm not comfortable with the wording here. I'm not a Perl programmer yet 
and I

believe that a module provides code for a class that becomes instantiated in
an object.
.
The Devel::StackTrace object contains a set of Devel::StackTraceFrame
objects, one for each level of the stack.  The frames contain all the
data available from caller() as of Perl 5.6.0 though this module still
works with 5.00503.

These are quite old Perl versions. They are not mentioned by upstream 
(2) any

more.

This code was created to support the Exception::Class::Base class
(part of Exception::Class) but may be useful in other contexts.

I doubt that this is information suitable for the clueless person 
considering

whether to install this module.

I think it's a good idea to

s/bindresvport()/bindresvport(3)/

in the package description. It would indicate to the readers that the
function is part of the C standard library.

And man bindresvport on my Squeeze system explained:

   bindresvport() is used to bind a socket descriptor to a 
privileged anony‐
   mous IP port, that is, a port number arbitrarily selected from 
the  range

   512 to 1023.

The manpage is dated 2008-12-03. So i suggest

s/600/512/

as well. For your convenience I copied the modified version into this mail.


Description: Port reservation program
 The portreserve program aims to help services with well-known ports
 that lie in the bindresvport(3) range (currently 512-1023).
 It prevents programs requesting a port to the libc from occupying
 a real service's port by occupying it itself, until the real service
 tells it to release the port (generally in its init script).

Bug#679406: ITP: web2ldap -- Full-featured web-based LDAPv3 client

Hi Marc,

one more time it feels a little bit strange to me talking to a German
in English.

web2ldap is a generic LDAPv3 client which does not make any
assumptions about the tree structure or LDAP schema. It is therefore
ind of a swiss-army knife for accessing/manipulating LDAP servers
without having to configure anything.
   

I believe s/ind/kind/ was your intention.

The original sources must be repacked since they contain an ASN.1 parser
module with a non-free license. Web2ldap works without this parser, so
the module was simply removed.
   

I suggest s/must/had to be/ and skipping the paragraph. The
whole paragraph is very implementation-specific in my opinion.
Perhaps there is a better place for this kind of information?

The status quo (1)

The FreeMedForms project is a set of free and open source
medical application used to help health professionals
in their current practice.
It is developed by a international community of medical
doctors and computer workers.

FreeDiams is a pharmaceutical drug prescriptor assistant.
It can be used to creation complex prescription and to manage
drugs interactions.

For me a project is a group of persons working on a task. So it can't be
a collection of applications. Debian is free - so free and open source
are redundant.

My proposal:

Actually, my main concern was "Other packages ... can provide" -
I'd rather s/can//.

The strategy it's currently going for is to try to arrange things so
that they can work it out for themselves.  This might work better if
we made it clearer that "crontab" is the name of the kind of file
that's used for specifying the tasks that get run:

   as specified in a "crontab" file.
   

Would it be a good idea to mention the manpage section:
crontab(5)?

I would appreciate considering my suggestion:

 minute, day, week, or month). By default, users may also specify
 processes to be run on their behalf.
 .

I would keep the "probably" (as it's only a "Recommends"), but
otherwise this phrasing seems a little better.  After all, as it's
just said, the mail recipient isn't necessarily the sysadmin.
   

As the mail system is only recommended the output can also be
written into some log file for later reference?

reviewing a translation of the package description (1) I found that
it mixes the terms filesystem quota und disk quota. It is basically
the upstream description (2) with the last sentence added.

I'm not sure whether they mean exactly the same. I'm also unsure
whether the average (novice) user knows the term quota.

As the manpage (3) describes


  is a tool for manipulating filesystem quotas.  Depending on the
  commandline options given, it can set hard or soft limits on block and
  inode usage, set and reset grace periods, for both users and (if your
  system supports this) groups.  The filesystem to set the quota on is
  given as the first (and only) non-option element, and it is either the
  block special file (i.e /dev/sda3) or the mount point (i.e. /home) for
  the filesystem.


the tool deals with the setting of ressource limits/limitations.

As starting point for further discussion please consider my suggestion:


  non-interactive command line tool to limit disk usage
Quotatool can both set hard or soft limits on block and inode usage and
set and reset grace periods.
.
Most quota-utilities are interactive, requiring manual intervention
from the user.  Quotatool on the other hand is not, making it suitable
for use in scripts and other non-interactive situations.  This is very
useful to edit disk quotas from scripts.

The netpbm description explains what netpbm is (2).


Description: Graphics conversion tools between image formats
 Netpbm is a toolkit for manipulation of graphic images, including
 conversion of images between a variety of different formats. There
 are over 220 separate tools in the package including converters for
 more than 80 graphics formats.


I suggest using the netpbm description as first paragraph of all
package descriptions originating from this source.

Bug#511925: Special case

thank you very much for improving the po4a coordination pages.

I'm sorry to say that I'm the origin of a special case that seems not to be
covered (yet).

Both the French and the German manpages are completely translated (1).
The French translation is listed correctly (2) as done, the German
pretends to be available (3), but is already fixed upstream (4).

A little bit more abstract: The case not (yet) covered is
 - Debian maintainer is upstream
 - upstream has "outsourced" translation work (here: translation project)
 - translations in several states
   * already packaged in Debian (fr)
   -> correctly marked as translated
   * committed to upstream repository, not yet packaged (de)
  -> marked as available for translation.

I think the case is too special for scripting a solution. What would be
an appropriate workaround. Filing a dummy ITT on the coordination
pages?

translating the package description to German I found some typos. 
(Grammatically

I would call them infinitive instead of third person singular).

For your convenience I've copied a corrected (and reformatted in the second
paragraph) into this mail.

Description: keep memory of all UPnP devices that announced themselves
 MiniSSDPd is a small daemon used by MiniUPnPc (a UPnP control point 
for IGD
 devices) to speed up device discoveries. MiniSSDPd keeps memory of all 
UPnP
 devices that announced themselves on the network through SSDP NOTIFY 
packets.

 MiniSSDPd also has the ability to handle all SSDP traffic received on a
 computer via the multicast group 239.255.255.250:1900.
 .
 MiniSSDPd receives NOTIFY packets and stores information contained for 
later

 use by UPnP Control Points on the machine. MiniSSDPd receives M-SEARCH
 packets and answers on behalf of the UPnP devices running on the machine.
 MiniUPnPd and MiniUPnPc are designed to take automatically advantage of
 MiniSSDPd running on the same computer. Just make sure that MiniSSDPd is
 started before any other UPnP program on the computer.

Ilya's remark leads to the right direction. I took the upstream tarball 
(1),  called
autoreconf and  installed libglew1.5-dev. I could build it, but did no 
further

testing.

Bug#649712: NMU is faulty

I'm afraid that the NMU does not do the right thing. The bug report
stated

Please replace the Build-Depends on gs-common to a Build-Depends on 
ghostscript.


The NMU drops the build dependency.
