Bug#487801: python-moinmoin: Difficult to run Moin in standalone mode
Package: python-moinmoin Version: 1.7.0-3 Severity: important I can't figure out how to run Moin in standalone mode. Having copied over the data and underlay directories, there are several ways to proceed. http://moinmo.in/DesktopEdition says that running 'python moin.py' doesn't work. Ok, so this is because moin's files live in sys.path rather than in the current directory, but running simply 'moin' just spits out an error about not specifying a command. Maybe those instructions are just bogus however. Looking at http://moinmo.in/HelpOnInstalling/StandaloneServer it should be possible to run 'moin --config-dir=/etc/moin server standalone --docs=/usr/share/moin/htdocs', but this complains that the module wikiserverconfig cannot be found. I tried creating a wikiserverconfig.py based on /usr/share/moin/config/wikiconfig.py, but that gave me 'TypeError: __init__() takes exactly 2 arguments (1 given)'. Ok, I guess I need to look elsewhere. /usr/share/python-support/python-moinmoin/MoinMoin/server/server_standalone.py contains some inline instructions for creating a server, and their code runs, but then trying to access the wiki yields 'ImportError: No module named wikiconfig'... renaming the script to wikiconfig.py gives me 'RuntimeError: You can run only one server per process!'. Hm... I noticed that the original moin source archive contains a top-level wikiserverconfig.py file that seems to do the job, except that accessing the wiki complains that /org/mywiki/data does not exist. Even if I try overriding data_dir in wikiserverconfig.py does not change this error. It looks like the clever Debian /etc/moin directory containing the farmconfig stuff is getting in the way, even though I don't want to use it and am not importing anything from that directory (at least deliberately). Anyway I am giving up for now, hopefully someone can help by providing some instructions to run moin in standalone/desktop mode. :) -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (530, 'testing'), (520, 'unstable'), (510, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.25-2-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages python-moinmoin depends on: ii python2.5.2-1An interactive high-level object-o ii python-support0.8.1 automated rebuilding support for P Versions of packages python-moinmoin recommends: ii exim4 4.69-5 meta-package to ease Exim MTA (v4) ii exim4-daemon-light [mail-tran 4.69-5+b1 lightweight Exim MTA (v4) daemon ii python-xapian 1.0.5-1Xapian search engine interface for -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. I know delvelopers who own UMTS cards (even the mighty ftpmasters do ;) ) so I think there should be interest (even if it's Qt software). Would you like to share you packaging with me? Sam's version at mentors [1] uses cdbs, which I dislike :) If I can get a nice packaging, and Sam and you do not forbid me to take over the ITPs I'd like to try umtsmon into Debian - you two are welcome to co-maintain it of course :) I don't mind--I only knocked together a package for a friend anyway; I don't actually have a UMTS modem myself. One enhancement that I was unable to get working is the ability to launch pppd as root, but keep the rest of the program running as the current user. The only reason the whole thing is run as root at the moment is to satisfy pppd's (outdated?) requirement that, if pppd is not run as root, the remote end of the connection must authenticate itself to pppd. Anyway, expect a bug report about this once the package appears in Debian. :) Regards Evgeni [1] http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/u/umtsmon/ -- Sam Morris [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#481345: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Xserver locks up when google earth is run
I just ran into this again (but not with the updated intel driver and mesa packages; I have now installed them and will see what changes). Having rebooted, I examined the logs and tried to make it crash again, but without success. I now think that this is what is happening: 1. the xserver dies 2. gdm starts a new xserver. logs are rotated. 3. the hardware was screwed in the crash, and the new xserver causes the system to lock up. 4. after rebooting, gdm starts the xserver and logs are rotated a second time So the log I originally posted is from the second xserver invocation that causes the system to lock up, not from the first xserver that originally screwed the hardware up. This time I was unable to switch to tty1 to do anything. Hopefully next time I'll have another system around to shell in and examine the situation. I will also try to remember to boot up in single user mode to try to recover the logs of the original xserver. -- Sam Morris [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#479570: sound-juicer: Can't find CD device when launched by nautilus 2.22
Package: sound-juicer Version: 2.22.0-1sam1 Severity: important Tags: patch sound-juicer under GNOME 2.22 does not recognise CDs. When I insert an audio CD, sound-juicer is launched (by Nautilus) and its window appears, but it is empty. I have to manually go to its preferences and change the CD drive to the one that I inserted the CD into in order to get it to do anything. This is filed upstream at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=530423 and the patch attached to that bug is sufficient to work around the issue until sound-juicer is ported to GIO. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (530, 'testing'), (520, 'unstable'), (510, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.24-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages sound-juicer depends on: ii gconf2 2.22.0-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii gstreamer0.10-gnomevfs 0.10.19-1 GStreamer plugin for GnomeVFS ii gstreamer0.10-plugins- 0.10.19-1 GStreamer plugins from the base ii gstreamer0.10-plugins- 0.10.7-3 GStreamer plugins from the good ii hal0.5.11~rc2-1 Hardware Abstraction Layer ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.20-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-01.22.0-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libbonobo2-0 2.22.0-1 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2-0 2.22.0-1 The Bonobo UI library ii libc6 2.7-10GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.6.4-1+b1The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libcdio7 0.78.2+dfsg1-2.1 library to read and control CD-ROM ii libdbus-1-31.2.1-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.74-2simple interprocess messaging syst ii libexpat1 1.95.8-4 XML parsing C library - runtime li ii libfontconfig1 2.5.0-2 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.3.5-1+b1FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc11:4.3.0-3 GCC support library ii libgconf2-42.22.0-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii libglade2-01:2.6.2-1 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.16.3-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-media02.22.0-1 runtime libraries for the GNOME me ii libgnome2-02.20.1.1-1The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomecanvas2-0 2.20.1.1-1A powerful object-oriented display ii libgnomeui-0 2.20.1.1-1The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomevfs2-0 1:2.22.0-2GNOME Virtual File System (runtime ii libgstreamer-plugins-b 0.10.19-1 GStreamer libraries from the base ii libgstreamer0.10-0 0.10.19-3 Core GStreamer libraries and eleme ii libgtk2.0-02.12.9-2 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libhal10.5.11~rc2-1 Hardware Abstraction Layer - share ii libice62:1.0.4-1 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libmusicbrainz4c2a 2.1.5-2 Second generation incarnation of t ii libnautilus-burn4 2.20.0-1 Nautilus Burn Library - runtime ve ii liborbit2 1:2.14.12-0.1 libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpango1.0-0 1.20.2-2 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpixman-1-0 0.10.0-1 pixel-manipulation library for X a ii libpng12-0 1.2.15~beta5-3PNG library - runtime ii libpopt0 1.10-3lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libsm6 2:1.0.3-1+b1 X11 Session Management library ii libstdc++6 4.3.0-3 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libtag1c2a 1.4-8.1 TagLib Audio Meta-Data Library ii libx11-6 2:1.0.3-7 X11 client-side library ii libxml22.6.32.dfsg-2 GNOME XML library ii libxrender11:0.9.4-1 X Rendering Extension client libra ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-12 compression library - runtime Versions of packages sound-juicer recommends: ii eject 2.1.5-7ejects CDs and operates CD-Changer -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#475727: bug #475727
On Fri, 2008-05-09 at 09:31 -0500, John Goerzen wrote: I'm looking at bug #475727 that you submitted to Debian. I am really not sure what the bug you are reporting is... if the server refuses to store a message that OfflineIMAP sends to it, exiting with a detailed error is, to me, the correct behavior. OfflineIMAP cannot go mucking about with the contents of messages, either; that is not universally the right thing to do. What are your thoughts? Well, rather than aborting on each message, one by one, I'd like offlineimap to skip the message and contiue with the others. Then, at the end of the synch run, I'd like to be presented with a list of the problematic messages. When I was sorting out the mailbox that generated these problems, there were about 30-40 messages with this problem, which meant that I had to run offlineimap 30-40 times, and each time I had no idea how long it would be until it failed again... so I had to babysit the process intead of being able to leave it running overnight and sort out the failed messages the next day. -- John -- Sam Morris [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#362432: mozilla-mplayer: Non-functional with Epiphany
Package: mozilla-mplayer Version: 3.25-1 Severity: important Recently the plugin stopped working with Epiphany. I think that this coincided with the last update to libxul but I'm not sure. With version 3.21-3, the plugin appeared in about:plugins but when navigating to a file that it should support, instead only a blank page loaded. When I went to web pages containing movies, the movie object did not even appear on the page, it was as if the EMBED/OBJECT element was not even in the page's HTML. With version 3.25-1, the plugin does not even appear in about:plugins. There are no messages from Epiphany about why the plugin couldn't be loaded as there were with the older version if mozilla was not installed. Both versions work fine with Firefox. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (530, 'testing'), (520, 'unstable'), (510, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.16-1-k7 Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages mozilla-mplayer depends on: ii libatk1.0-0 1.11.3-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc6 2.3.6-3GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libcairo2 1.0.2-3The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libfontconfig12.3.1-2generic font configuration library ii libgcc1 1:4.1.0-1 GCC support library ii libglib2.0-0 2.10.1-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.8.16-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libice6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-6 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libpango1.0-0 1.12.0-2 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libsm66.9.0.dfsg.1-6 X Window System Session Management ii libstdc++64.1.0-1The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-6 X Window System protocol client li ii libxcursor1 1.1.3-1X cursor management library ii libxext6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-6 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxi66.9.0.dfsg.1-6 X Window System Input extension li ii libxinerama1 6.9.0.dfsg.1-6 X Window System multi-head display ii libxpm4 6.9.0.dfsg.1-6 X pixmap library ii libxrandr26.9.0.dfsg.1-6 X Window System Resize, Rotate and ii libxrender1 1:0.9.0.2-1X Rendering Extension client libra ii libxt66.9.0.dfsg.1-6 X Toolkit Intrinsics ii mozilla-browser 2:1.7.12-1.1 The Mozilla Internet application s ii mplayer 1.0pre7try2-1 the ultimate movie player -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#363633: RFP: systrace -- Interactive Policy Generation for System Calls
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Package name: systrace Version : 1.6c Upstream Author : Niels Provos URL : http://www.citi.umich.edu/u/provos/systrace/ License : BSD Description : Interactive Policy Generation for System Calls Systrace enforces system call policies for applications by constraining the application's access to the system. The policy is can be generated interactively; operations not covered by the policy raise an alarm and allow an user to refine the currently configured policy, or deny the unauthorised operation. * Confines untrusted binary applications * Interactive policy generation with optional graphical interface * Non-interactive policy enforcement * System call argument rewriting * Remote monitoring and intrusion detection Systrace has two backends; one of them requires a kernel patch. The other backend uses the ptrace system call. It is slower and not as feature-full as the kernel backend. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (530, 'testing'), (520, 'unstable'), (510, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.16-1-k7 Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#363633: systrace package for debian
On Wed, 2006-04-19 at 19:23 -0700, Niels Provos wrote: just saw your request for a systrace debian package. I have been somewhat unsuccessfully trying to get a Debian package included myself. So, I am glad that you know the procedures better than I do. It would be nice to have xsystrace as a recommended package for Systrace. Do you think that you could file a request for that, too? Hm, I thought it was part of the systrace tarball but now I see it's a separate download: http://www.citi.umich.edu/u/provos/systrace/gtk-systrace-2003-06-23.tar.gz It seems a bit out of date, and installs to /usr/X11R6 which is about to disappear in unstable, but maybe someone will be able to nurse it back to health. Bug#364072: nvidia-glx: All but one of my video modes have disappeared
On Fri, 2006-04-21 at 14:44 +0200, Ralf Hildebrandt wrote: Since upgrading to version 8756 of the driver, all but one of my video modes has disappeared. This beaks any game or other program that wants to change to a lower resoultion. I am unable to change to any video mode other than 1280x960: No miracle, you (or an Xorg update!) commented out all the resolutions but one: #Modes 1600x1200 1280x1024 1152x864 1024x768 832x624 800x600 720x400 640x480 Modes 1280x960 I have it configured that deliberately--until 8756, the X server and/or nvidia driver would generate a list of all the modes supported by my monitor automatically. The highest mode it detects is 1600x1200; this is too high to be readable on my monitor so I specified 'Modes 1280x960' so that it would only generated modes up to and including that resolution. I just took out the Modes line entirely and restarted X and am now stuck in 1600x1200. Bug#352216: Not really ideal
This isn't really what I meant. I did as you suggested, but beagled took hours to index the directories, and the index in ~/.beagle shot up to 250 MB. This penalty would be multiplied by the number of users on the system. I was thinking more along the lines of a weekly cron job that used beagle-build-index to build a static index of all installed documentation, that could then be shared by all users. -- Sam Morris http://robots.org.uk/ PGP key id 5EA01078 3412 EA18 1277 354B 991B C869 B219 7FDB 5EA0 1078 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#349392: ntp: abuses pool.ntp.org as default time source
severity 349392 important retitle 349392 ntp: abuses pool.ntp.org as default time source thanks According to The NTP Pool for Vendors [0] it seems that Debian's default ntp.conf should be using '{0,1,2}.debian.pool.ntp.org' as the server hostnames. retitle 353084 logout dialog + xcompmgr causes apparent server freeze thanks Josselin Mouette wrote: Le jeudi 16 février 2006 à 02:43 +, Sam Morris a écrit : Subject: gnome-session: I'm seeing this too Followup-For: Bug #305471 Package: gnome-session Version: 2.12.0-4 I am now seeing this too. Switching back to X's virtual terminal revealed an screen that was black except for the mouse pointer. Is there anything relevant in ~/.xsession-errors or /var/log/Xorg.0.log ? Ok, I have solved this one. It is caused by a bad interaction between gnome-session's logout dialog box and xcompmgr. When the dialog is displayed, xcompmgr is frozen and so the screen will no longer update. It turns out the keyboard *does* work, but without the screen updating I didn't notice. :) (The xlsclients breakage is also caused by gnome-session's logout dialog box, BTW.) The same behaviour can be caused by sending xcompmgr SIGSTOP, including the blank screen when switching away from X and back again. I'm not reassigning the bug since I don't know whether this is the fault of gnome-session, or of xcompmgr. -- Sam Morris http://robots.org.uk/ PGP key id 5EA01078 3412 EA18 1277 354B 991B C869 B219 7FDB 5EA0 1078 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#353045: Info about the missing symbol (put_be32)
put_be32 is defined in 'gst-libs/ext/ffmpeg/libavformat/aviobuf.c'. It is wrapped by #ifdef CONFIG_MUXERS. From gst-libs/ext/ffmpeg/configure.ac: AC_FF_ALLOW_DISABLE(CONFIG_ENCODERS, encoders, compilation of encoders) CONFIG_MUXERS=$CONFIG_ENCODERS So it's the --disable-encoders argument to configure that is breaking the package. -- Sam Morris http://robots.org.uk/ PGP key id 5EA01078 3412 EA18 1277 354B 991B C869 B219 7FDB 5EA0 1078 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#353045: The symbol is referenced from...
I changed the declaration of put_be32's prototype to be conditional on the definition of CONFIG_MUXERS and so found out that the symbol is referenced from: png.c: In function 'png_write_chunk': png.c:660: warning: implicit declaration of function 'put_be32' rtp.c: In function 'rtcp_send_sr': rtp.c:578: warning: implicit declaration of function 'put_be32' These functions use a bunch of similar symbols that are all condifional on CONFIG_MUXERS: put_byte, put_be16, put_be32, put_be64, put_flush_packet and put_le32. So, either: * CONFIG_MUXERS should not be set blindly to the same value as CONFIG_ENCODERS * The function prototypes for these functions in avio.h should be conditional, and png_write_chunk and rtcp_send_sr should not use them * The definitions for these functions in aviobuf.c should *not* be conditional * Something else that may be obvious to someone who knows anything about ffmpeg ;) -- Sam Morris http://robots.org.uk/ PGP key id 5EA01078 3412 EA18 1277 354B 991B C869 B219 7FDB 5EA0 1078 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#353045: a rubbish patch
From looking at ffmpeg's latest CVS code, the problematic function definitions are either wrapped by: #if defined(CONFIG_MUXERS) || defined(CONFIG_PROTOCOLS) or are not inside CONFIG_MUXERS at all. Therefore the problem is caused by gst-ffmpeg including a buggy/outdated version of ffmpeg, or else by their autoconf stuff. Since this will eventually be fixed when gstreamer updates or fixes their copy of ffmpeg, I have made a patch that moves only the missing symbols outside of the #ifdefs. In addition, since the file that contains 'mpegts_crc32' is only compiled if CONFIG_ENCODERS is enabled, I copied the code for that function to mpegts.c, where it is referenced. -- Sam Morris http://robots.org.uk/ PGP key id 5EA01078 3412 EA18 1277 354B 991B C869 B219 7FDB 5EA0 1078 --- gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg-0.10.0.orig/gst-libs/ext/ffmpeg/libavformat/aviobuf.c 2005-10-21 15:30:31.0 +0100 +++ gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg-0.10.0/gst-libs/ext/ffmpeg/libavformat/aviobuf.c 2006-02-21 16:03:05.0 + @@ -54,7 +54,6 @@ } -#ifdef CONFIG_MUXERS static void flush_buffer(ByteIOContext *s) { if (s-buf_ptr s-buffer) { @@ -104,7 +103,6 @@ flush_buffer(s); s-must_flush = 0; } -#endif //CONFIG_MUXERS offset_t url_fseek(ByteIOContext *s, offset_t offset, int whence) { @@ -193,7 +191,6 @@ return s-error; } -#ifdef CONFIG_MUXERS void put_le32(ByteIOContext *s, unsigned int val) { put_byte(s, val); @@ -210,6 +207,7 @@ put_byte(s, val); } +#ifdef CONFIG_MUXERS void put_strz(ByteIOContext *s, const char *str) { if (str) @@ -223,6 +221,7 @@ put_le32(s, (uint32_t)(val 0x)); put_le32(s, (uint32_t)(val 32)); } +#endif void put_be64(ByteIOContext *s, uint64_t val) { @@ -242,11 +241,13 @@ put_byte(s, val); } +#ifdef CONFIG_MUXERS void put_be24(ByteIOContext *s, unsigned int val) { put_be16(s, val 8); put_byte(s, val); } +#endif void put_tag(ByteIOContext *s, const char *tag) { @@ -254,7 +255,6 @@ put_byte(s, *tag++); } } -#endif //CONFIG_MUXERS /* Input stream */ --- gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg-0.10.0.orig/gst-libs/ext/ffmpeg/libavformat/avio.c 2005-10-21 15:30:30.0 +0100 +++ gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg-0.10.0/gst-libs/ext/ffmpeg/libavformat/avio.c 2006-02-21 15:57:30.0 + @@ -100,7 +100,6 @@ return ret; } -#ifdef CONFIG_MUXERS int url_write(URLContext *h, unsigned char *buf, int size) { int ret; @@ -112,7 +111,6 @@ ret = h-prot-url_write(h, buf, size); return ret; } -#endif //CONFIG_MUXERS offset_t url_seek(URLContext *h, offset_t pos, int whence) { --- gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg-0.10.0.orig/gst-libs/ext/ffmpeg/libavformat/mmf.c 2005-10-21 15:30:31.0 +0100 +++ gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg-0.10.0/gst-libs/ext/ffmpeg/libavformat/mmf.c 2006-02-21 16:15:35.0 + @@ -24,9 +24,9 @@ offset_t data_size; } MMFContext; -#ifdef CONFIG_MUXERS static int mmf_rates[] = { 4000, 8000, 11025, 22050, 44100 }; +#ifdef CONFIG_MUXERS static int mmf_rate_code(int rate) { int i; @@ -35,6 +35,7 @@ return i; return -1; } +#endif static int mmf_rate(int code) { @@ -43,6 +44,7 @@ return mmf_rates[code]; } +#ifdef CONFIG_MUXERS /* Copy of end_tag() from avienc.c, but for big-endian chunk size */ static void end_tag_be(ByteIOContext *pb, offset_t start) { --- gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg-0.10.0.orig/gst-libs/ext/ffmpeg/libavformat/mpegts.c 2005-10-21 15:30:31.0 +0100 +++ gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg-0.10.0/gst-libs/ext/ffmpeg/libavformat/mpegts.c 2006-02-21 18:26:40.0 + @@ -114,6 +114,67 @@ MpegTSFilter *pids[NB_PID_MAX]; }; +#ifndef CONFIG_MUXERS +/* these live in mpegtsenc.c, which is only built if CONFIG_ENCODERS is + defined. */ +static const uint32_t crc_table[256] = { + 0x, 0x04c11db7, 0x09823b6e, 0x0d4326d9, 0x130476dc, 0x17c56b6b, + 0x1a864db2, 0x1e475005, 0x2608edb8, 0x22c9f00f, 0x2f8ad6d6, 0x2b4bcb61, + 0x350c9b64, 0x31cd86d3, 0x3c8ea00a, 0x384fbdbd, 0x4c11db70, 0x48d0c6c7, + 0x4593e01e, 0x4152fda9, 0x5f15adac, 0x5bd4b01b, 0x569796c2, 0x52568b75, + 0x6a1936c8, 0x6ed82b7f, 0x639b0da6, 0x675a1011, 0x791d4014, 0x7ddc5da3, + 0x709f7b7a, 0x745e66cd, 0x9823b6e0, 0x9ce2ab57, 0x91a18d8e, 0x95609039, + 0x8b27c03c, 0x8fe6dd8b, 0x82a5fb52, 0x8664e6e5, 0xbe2b5b58, 0xbaea46ef, + 0xb7a96036, 0xb3687d81, 0xad2f2d84, 0xa9ee3033, 0xa4ad16ea, 0xa06c0b5d, + 0xd4326d90, 0xd0f37027, 0xddb056fe, 0xd9714b49, 0xc7361b4c, 0xc3f706fb, + 0xceb42022, 0xca753d95, 0xf23a8028, 0xf6fb9d9f, 0xfbb8bb46, 0xff79a6f1, + 0xe13ef6f4, 0xe5ffeb43, 0xe8bccd9a, 0xec7dd02d, 0x34867077, 0x30476dc0, + 0x3d044b19, 0x39c556ae, 0x278206ab, 0x23431b1c, 0x2e003dc5, 0x2ac12072, + 0x128e9dcf, 0x164f8078, 0x1b0ca6a1, 0x1fcdbb16, 0x018aeb13, 0x054bf6a4, + 0x0808d07d, 0x0cc9cdca, 0x7897ab07, 0x7c56b6b0, 0x71159069, 0x75d48dde

Why would you want 2.6 packages? The 2.6 kernel includes ALSA drivers already, and providing alsa-modules packages would be of use for a very small percentage of the Debian users. The version of alsa in 2.6.8 is, I think, only 1.0.4; but packages for 1.0.8 will soon be entering sarge. I guess I am just trying to make life easier for the users who have hardware that doesn't work on the 9-month-old version of alsa, including me. :) -- Sam Morris http://robots.org.uk/ PGP key id 5EA01078 Fingerprint 3412 EA18 1277 354B 991B C869 B219 7FDB 5EA0 1078 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#366139: Provide .desktop file so that update-notifier is started automatically
Package: update-notifier Version: 0.41.3-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch The freedesktop.org autostart-spec provides a mechanism by which per-session daemons can register to be started automatically when a user logs in. Basically this involves creating a .desktop file for smart-notifier and dropping it into /etc/xdg/autostart. Further details are available from http://standards.freedesktop.org/autostart-spec/. This will ensure that smart-notifier is started for ths users of any desktop environment that implements the spec. Currently this includes GNOME, KDE (I think) XFCE, Rox and maybe others. Bug#367445: sun-java5: Provide data for shared-mime-info database
Package: sun-java5 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch Currently the package places files in /usr/share/mime-info, which provides info for the old GNOME mime system. I think these files were last used by gnome-vfs 2.6. Current versions of GNOME use the freedesktop.org shared-mime-info database. Since you are using dh_installmime, creating debian/sharedmimeinfo with the following content should suffice: ?xml version=1.0? mime-info xmlns='http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/shared-mime-info' mime-type type=application/java-archive commentJava Archive/comment glob pattern=*.jar/ /mime-type mime-type type=application/x-java-jnlp-file commentJava Web Start application/comment glob pattern=*.jnlp/ /mime-type /mime-info Although the obsolete files are harmless if left installed, my preference would be to remove them to reduce the level of cruft on systems where the package is installed, as well as user confusion. The same applies to the files in /usr/share/application-registry, which have been supersceded by the .desktop files in /usr/share/applications. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (530, 'testing'), (520, 'unstable'), (510, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.16-1-k7 Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#367445: Install icons as well
I forgot to mention that you can install the icons from the JRE package and get icons associated with the MIME types in GNOME. I was doing this in my package's debian/rules file: install/jdk-1.5.0:: prelink-stamp debian/install # icons for mime types for theme in hicolor HighContrast{,Inverse} LowContrast; \ do \ for mimetype in {application-java-archive,application-x-java-jnlp-file}; \ do \ target=${DEB_DESTDIR}/usr/share/icons/$$theme/48x48/mimetypes/$$mimetype.png; \ install --mode=644 -D ${UNZIP_DIR}/jre/lib/images/icons/sun-java.png $$target; \ ln -s $$(basename $$target) $$(dirname $$target)/gnome-mime-$$mimetype.png; \ done; \ done Basically the idea is to create $icon_theme/$size/mimetypes/gnome-mime-$mime.png, where $mime is the MIME type of the icon with the '/' turned into a '-'. I had been using the MIME types specified in the obsolete mime-info files, but I just noticed that /usr/share/mime/packages/freedesktop.org.xml already contains definitions for 'application/x-java-jnlp-file' and 'application/x-jar' (*not* 'application/jar'); so I guess you don't have to bother with the above debian/sharedmimeinfo file after all. -- Sam Morris http://robots.org.uk/ PGP key id 5EA01078 3412 EA18 1277 354B 991B C869 B219 7FDB 5EA0 1078 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#358599: epiphany-browser: Garbled page display on some BTS pages
Package: epiphany-browser Version: 1.8.5-2 Severity: normal Epiphany displays a page containing garbled text on certain BTS pages; I noticed the problem on http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=267799. The corruption appears on ~4 out of 5 page reloads, in a different place each time, but always in an area involving non-ASCII characters. The BTS administrator suggested that it's a problem with the browser; the page is served as UTF-8, however the characters that trigger the problem are not encoded in UTF-8 (Basically, that mail message has a invalid content-type, so the bts assumes that it is valid utf-8 and doesn't bother to do anything to it. It's most likely iso8859-1 instead.). While the BTS should perhaps convert anything with an invalid content-type into plain ASCII before presenting it as UTF-8, displaying it, the browser should still handle this more gracefully. :) I'm attaching a screenshot of the corruption. Note that it doesn't just bungle the display of the characters in question: there is some random HTML code in there, and even a couple of checkboxes, so it's possible that the contents of other tabs, or previously viewed pages are leaking in. The first time I triggered the bug, a followup for a different bug (from 2006) was inserted into the page for #267799 (from 2004)! Finally, I can't reproduce the problem with Firefox. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (530, 'testing'), (520, 'unstable'), (510, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.15-1-k7 Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages epiphany-browser depends on: ii gconf2 2.14.0-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii gnome-icon-theme 2.12.1-2 GNOME Desktop icon theme ii iso-codes 0.44-1ISO language, territory, currency ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.17-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-01.10.3-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libaudiofile0 0.2.6-6 Open-source version of SGI's audio ii libavahi-client3 0.6.7-1 Avahi client library ii libavahi-common3 0.6.9-5 Avahi common library ii libavahi-compat-howl0 0.6.7-1 Avahi Howl compatibility library ii libbonobo2-0 2.14.0-1 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2-0 2.10.1-2 The Bonobo UI library ii libc6 2.3.6-3 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libcairo2 1.0.2-3 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-20.61-4simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.61-4simple interprocess messaging syst ii libesd-alsa0 [libesd0] 0.2.36-3 Enlightened Sound Daemon (ALSA) - ii libfontconfig1 2.3.1-2 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.1.10-1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc11:4.0.3-1 GCC support library ii libgconf2-42.14.0-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii libgcrypt111.2.2-1 LGPL Crypto library - runtime libr ii libglade2-01:2.5.1-2 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.10.1-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-desktop-2 2.12.3-1 Utility library for loading .deskt ii libgnome-keyring0 0.4.8-1 GNOME keyring services library ii libgnome2-02.12.0.1-5The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomecanvas2-0 2.12.0-2 A powerful object-oriented display ii libgnomeprint2.2-0 2.12.1-3 The GNOME 2.2 print architecture - ii libgnomeprintui2.2-0 2.12.1-2 GNOME 2.2 print architecture User ii libgnomeui-0 2.12.1-1 The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomevfs2-0 2.14.0-1 GNOME virtual file-system (runtime ii libgnutls121.2.9-2 the GNU TLS library - runtime libr ii libgpg-error0 1.2-1 library for common error values an ii libgtk2.0-02.8.13-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libice66.9.0.dfsg.1-4Inter-Client Exchange library ii libjpeg62 6b-10 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libmozjs0d 1.8.0.1-6 The Mozilla SpiderMonkey JavaScrip ii libnspr4-0d1.8.0.1-6 NetScape Portable Runtime Library ii liborbit2 1:2.12.4-1libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpango1.0-0 1.12.0-2 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpng12-0 1.2.8rel-5PNG library - runtime ii libpopt0 1.7-5 lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libsm6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4X Window System

Bug#352131: gnome-control-center: gnome-settings-daemon quits after being launched; gnome-session restarts it, gets into some kind of loop, and sometimes segfaults, sometimes locks up
Package: gnome-control-center Version: 1:2.12.2-2 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable I altered a layout-related option in gnome-keyboard-properties, when suddenly my Gnome theme reverted to the default GTK+ theme. Then it continued to alternate between the clearlooks and GTK+ themes, meanwhile the CPU was pegged at 100%. I logged out and in again to try to reproduce this behaviour, but I find I can no longer get a usable Gnome session up and running. As best I can work out, gnome-settings-daemon is quitting after being launched (output attached). gnome-session then restarts it, but it exits immediatly. gnome-session won't take 'no' for an answer and keeps launching it. Sometimes this causes gnome-session to segfault after a few moments; sometimes it just locks up and the login process freezes with 'Starting window manager' displayed in the splash screen. In such a case, gnome-panel either likewise freezes half way through loading, or gets in a loop of restarting after displaying 'detected another panel running'. I am also attaching the output of running 'GSM_VERBOSE_DEBUG=1 gnome-session --failsafe' while the above happened, and a transcript of my attempt to get a backtrace of the failure of gnome-settings-daemon. I don't know why gdb didn't break on gdk_x_error. :( -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (530, 'testing'), (520, 'unstable'), (510, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.15-1-k7 Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages gnome-control-center depends on: ii capplets-data 1:2.12.2-2configuration applets for GNOME 2 ii desktop-file-utils 0.10-1Utilities for .desktop files ii gnome-desktop-data 2.12.2-2 Common files for GNOME 2 desktop a ii gnome-icon-theme 2.12.1-2 GNOME Desktop icon theme ii gnome-menus2.12.0-2.1an implementation of the freedeskt ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.17-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-01.10.3-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libaudiofile0 0.2.6-6 Open-source version of SGI's audio ii libavahi-client3 0.6.6-1 Avahi client library ii libavahi-common3 0.6.6-1 Avahi common library ii libavahi-compat-howl0 0.6.6-1 Avahi Howl compatibility library ii libbonobo2-0 2.8.1-2 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2-0 2.10.1-1 The Bonobo UI library ii libc6 2.3.5-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libcairo2 1.0.2-3 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-20.60-5simple interprocess messaging syst ii libebook1.2-5 1.4.2.1-1 Client library for evolution addre ii libesd-alsa0 [libesd0] 0.2.36-3 Enlightened Sound Daemon (ALSA) - ii libfontconfig1 2.3.1-2 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.1.10-1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgamin0 [libfam0]0.1.7-3 Client library for the gamin file ii libgconf2-42.12.1-8 GNOME configuration database syste ii libgcrypt111.2.2-1 LGPL Crypto library - runtime libr ii libglade2-01:2.5.1-2 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.8.6-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-desktop-2 2.12.2-2 Utility library for loading .deskt ii libgnome-keyring0 0.4.6-2 GNOME keyring services library ii libgnome-menu2 2.12.0-2.1an implementation of the freedeskt ii libgnome2-02.12.0.1-5The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomecanvas2-0 2.12.0-2 A powerful object-oriented display ii libgnomeui-0 2.12.0-2 The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomevfs2-0 2.12.2-5 GNOME virtual file-system (runtime ii libgnutls111.0.16-13.1 GNU TLS library - runtime library ii libgpg-error0 1.1-4 library for common error values an ii libgstreamer-plugins0. 0.8.11-2 Various GStreamer libraries and li ii libgstreamer0.8-0 0.8.11-3 Core GStreamer libraries, plugins, ii libgtk2.0-02.8.10-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libice66.9.0.dfsg.1-4Inter-Client Exchange library ii libjpeg62 6b-10 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libmetacity0 1:2.12.2-3Common library of lightweight GTK2 ii libnautilus-extension1 2.12.2-2 libraries for nautilus components ii liborbit2 1:2.12.4-1libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpango1.0-0 1.10.2-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpng12-0
Bug#352134: Can't restore gossip from notification-icon state without a notification area
Package: gossip Version: 0.9-1.1 Severity: normal I normally hide the gossip window by clicking on its icon in the notification area. However right now I am unable to log into Gnome, and have fallen back to twm. In twm, and presumably other window managers that do not provide a notification area, there is no way to get the gossip window back! I worked around the problem by unsetting /apps/gossip/ui/main_window_hidden in gconf-editor; however I had to restart gossip for this to take effect. Bug#336214: gdm ignores user and system umask settings
severity 336214 minor thanks I think that /etc/login.defs is only (reliably) processed by login. Most of the options are being replaced by PAM modules, which will work for any PAM-enabled application. As for /etc/profile and ~/.profile, these are read by login shells, not GDM. You can set your umask with the following methods: 1. system-wide: use the libpam-umask package [0] 2. system-wide: call umask from a script in /etc/X11/Xsession.d 3. system-wide: call umask from /etc/gdm/Xsession 4. user-specific: call umask from ~/.gdmrc [1] [0] currently doesn't work with GDM; see #314791 and #321620 [1] only processed if logging into GNOME, see /etc/X11/Xsession.d/55gnome-session_gnomerc -- Sam Morris http://robots.org.uk/ PGP key id 5EA01078 3412 EA18 1277 354B 991B C869 B219 7FDB 5EA0 1078 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#365296: alsa-base: Run 'alsactl names' on device add/remove
Package: alsa-base Version: 1.0.11-1 Severity: wishlist While trying to find out what the best/official way for an audio application to discover what devices are available on the system, I stumbled upen a thread on alsa-devel [0] that states that the right way to do this is to call the snd_names_list function, present since ALSA 1.0.9. This file relies on the existance of /etc/asound.names, which can be generated by running 'alsactl names'. I suggest doing this whenever an ALSA device is added to or removed from the system, thereby keeping the file up to date at all times. In case the administrator wants to modify the file, I suggest running something like 'alsactl --file=/var/lib/alsa/asound.names' and having /etc/asound.names be a symlink to that file; the link can be replaced by a regular file if the admin wants to maintain it himself.
