When i start in recoery mode I saw the service NetworkManager-wait-online hangs.
No more wifi up
And I cant do anything to get the hand on terminal to solve the problem

I believe that I was running 5.10 (bullseye).

It looks like 5.18 (from backports) does not show the issue!  (i.e. works)

  This time I did get some dmesg BUG output as well (attached).
  It does not seem to be the same backtrace on two occurances.

  I also noticed that the BUG: report in dmesg does not happen directly
  when doing 'mdadm --examine --scan --config=partitions'.  It rather
  occurs when some activity happens on the host filesystem, e.g.
  a 'touch /root/a' command.

  (did not re-install anything else, except upgraded zfs, also from
  backports (since pure bullseye would not compile with 5.18))

  Does not exhibit the problem.

I have tried with both kernels several times, and it was repeatable that

Reminder: to get the issue, /dev/ should not be mounted in the chroot.
With /dev/ mounted, 5.10 also works.

Interestingly this appears to be a long-standing issue as I can't find any
version since Stretch that shows libesmtp-dev depending on libssl-dev.

Versions prior to 1.1.0 did not use pkg-config or Meson/Ninja build
system for that matter. This was the first iteration of the new build
system changes.

Working on an updated version and hopefully will have it released shortly
for you try.

Hi,

I believe that I have been hit by this bug too.

What has happened for me is that the machine in question 'almost' locks 
up, with a read-only /, and such that most commands to debug further never 
complete due to waiting for filesystem action.  It then requires a reboot.


'dmesg' has worked, and then shows ext4-related issues.  However, they 
were not recorded to /var/log.  I generally do not find any corruption on 
the filesystem itself when running fsck afterwards.


On the machine I have a number of chroot debian installations of different 
releases. By pure chance I found that 'update-initramfs' was the trigger 
for the system hangs. I could then repeatably trigger the issue again.
(Before this, it would happen as part of system maintenance (unattended 
upgrades in the chroots), so just spuriously hang the machine.)


In my case, the chroot installations live on a ZFS filesystem.  But the 
host system itself is on (multiple; /, /usr/, /var/ ) MD raid1.


I have had /proc mounted in the chroots.  But had forgotten /dev .  After 
mounting /dev (and /dev/pts) in the chroots, the issue has not happened 
again.


The issue was when the host system ran Buster, I then upgraded to Bullseye 
~2 weeks ago, hoping it would be resolved, but the issue was still present 
after the upgrade.  Only after that upgrade I found the update-initramfs 
trigger.


I am running with sysvinit, both on host and chroots.

Currently, I do not have hands-on access to the system, so cannot inspect 
or reboot it reliably.  Should be able to do some further tests in a few 
weeks.

3. History of the system

I installed jessie on this server in 2015 and remotely upgraded to
stretch and then to buster.

As with others, I was able to boot into d-i rescue mode and reinstall
grub and then it booted fine.

I hope this helps. It was definitely a surprise to find the server

Thanks, Moritz. I uploaded a version today which should fix everything, it
has to go trough NEW, so it will take a little longer.

The Qt5 part was already working fine, only the part loading the
ghostscript library had issues. The library is located in
/usr/lib/, for example /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ on amd64.
The triarch part can be determined with:
ARCH = $(shell dpkg-architecture -qDEB_HOST_MULTIARCH)

I tried to pass this directory with a define to the cpp code, where it would
be used to load the library. The define worked fine (some issues with
quotes) according to the logs, but during compilation this was changed to:
/usr/lib/x86_64-1-gnu (linux replace by 1), which I could not figure out how
to fix or even what happened there. 

So instead of using the define, I created a new header file during the
build, where a const with the correct path was defined.  The only change to
the upstream code is now to include this new header file and load the
library with the const as path.  That works fine (tested only on amd64, but
strace shows the correct path), and I expect it to work for all other arches
as well, as long as the dpkg-architecture call is correct.

This is the solution I have been looking for, even though it is debian
specific. But other distributions should be able to create the own fix based
on this. Now if I can get write access to the git repository on salsa, I
can push the new version there.

Oh, I forgot about the binNMU. This is not the version that will be uploaded
to Debian, that will be -8. I just wanted to give you something to test,
before I upload, and it should have had a version between 7 and 8. Well, I
guess you can still test it, since you need to install the deb manually
anyway.

In the AUTHORS file you write "used with permission" for the "photo".
I don't see this mentioned under the Sound Effects. Do you think there is a
copyright problem or not? If there is a problem, I would probably just drop
the package from Debian, I don't think its worth the effort to create new
images and sound files for this old package.

Bug#866758: Additional information kernel 4.9.0-4-amd64

In further testing, I found that I am able to boot into X11/Gnome3 if I
revert to booting Linux kernel 4.9.0-*3*-amd64. I will continue with
4.9.0-3-amd64 until the next amd64-related update.

I am an intermediate user with no programming knowledge, but somewhat
familiar with the command line and file paths. Please feel free to send
instructions for extracting additional diagnostic information as needed.
I'm also willing to install additional debug tools as required. Thanks for
your attention.

Attachment: If helpful, full hardware list for my notebook, an obscure HP
model sold to college engineering schools, probably with older components
than the commercial models.

Thanks for your patch, much easier than what I tried: I removed abs() from
f2c.h and included cmath and using std:abs to the cpp files. Also I had to
do this in two files: fcontour.cpp and ffitcontour.cpp to get it to compile.
Your patch is less invasive, so I uploaded that now. If I could figure out
what happened to the upstream branch I would also push this to alioth...

Hi,

I think this tool is probably important enough to Gnome users (sid or not)
that it's probably worthwhile to suggest a "patch" version that looks like
an upgrade from the 3.25 package that at least temporarily reverts to
3.22.  For now it's easy enough to manually revert the package, but all
sources (dpkg included) insist that you should not be doing that.

I'd have suggested it sooner but 3.25 was right around the corner...  I
imagine it still is, but it has been for weeks.

Please treat me as a newbie with respect to Debian package support, but I'd
like to help with this if I can. I don't currently have a Debian
development system (I only have Ubuntu 15.04 on a laptop for the moment),
and my time will be very limited for the next couple of weeks. That said ...

The traditional Squeak VM for Etoys is actively but quietly maintained on
squeakvm.org, and I personally have been using the 64-bit version for years
without trouble. So aside from possible differences in the compiler
toolchain in recent versions compared to the older gcc that I am currently
using (gcc 4.9.2 at the moment), I am guessing that if we could refresh the
sources for squeak-vm with up to date sources from squeakvm.org, then we
should have a good solid VM that would support Etoys on 32-bit and 64-bit
Debian.

The easiest and quickest way to find out if this makes sense would be if
someone with an up to date Debian 64-bit development system could try
building the Squeak VM, following the instructions that I maintain at
http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/6354.

If this seems to be a good approach, we would then want to trim out the
portions of the source tree that are not relevant to Linux, or that should
be excluded for licensing reasons. But first please try following the
instructions on http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/6354 verbatim, as this will
tell us if the resulting updated VM is solid on Debian 64-bits.

I should also note that the build process relies on Cmake, so that might
present issues from a license perspective. I'm not sure what to do about
that if it is a concern, but first things first let's see if the updated
source work as expected.

Bug#838047: Confirmed: breaks *all* tablets

Confirmed. This bug breaks all graphics tablets in GNOME (at least). It 
is not specific to the driver. See the attached logs.


Symptoms: when a graphics tablet is plugged in, within a few seconds 
the running X session terminates. Examining the logs reveals repeated 
segfaults from gnome-shell caused by libwacom2; the repetition is 
classed as the session respawning too fast by gnome-session, which 
gives up in disgust.


(As originally reported, sessions break with a blank screen if the 
tablet is plugged in at session start too.)


Affected hardware: all the tablets I own, namely:

* Genius i405x (evdev driver, horribly broken)
* Huion H610PRO (libinput, normally works well)
* Wacom Intuos5 M (wacom, normally works perfectly)

Expected behaviour: I would expect no segfaults which kill X when 
plugging in my graphics tablets.


I am using libwacom2 0.19-1, gnome-shell 3.21.91-2, and 
gnome-settings-daemon 3.21.92.1-1.


Libwacom 0.22 has been released upstream, and may be necessary for this 
version of GNOME. Please can that be tried? Libwacom mismatches have 
killed tablet support in the past

Bug#821617: Bumping severity of PHP 7.0 transition bugs to serious

Haven't reached out to confirm with upstream but as the website states
"Swift Mailer integrates into any web app written in PHP 5, ..." I'm not
exactly certain PHP 7 is a concern. I have attempted to build latest
version 5.4.2 under Sid following the suggestions in the ticket and the
package doesn't pass lintian checks when it uses php-cli instead of
php5-cli. The build itself is using pkg-php-tools to build and it is
simply a PHP class not compiled code.

i had to discover this change myself by running the init.d script with
'bash -x' (good thing i hadn't jumped on the systemd bandwagon - shell
scripts are beneficial, not a hassle)...only then did i have enough info
to figure out what the problem was and enough info to search the bug
tracker.

so, please, if you're going to make major changes to how something works
then at least make some minimal effort to document the changes.

I think the problem is in file
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/mdadm on line 79
(mdadm-3.3.2-5-amd64).
The solution is replace line 79:

log_failure_msg failed to assemble all arrays.

by:

log_warning_msg failed to assemble all arrays...attempting individual starts

Note that in abduco, client_send_packet(pkt) will write the raw
contents of pkt to a socket, and info(NULL) will write the \e[999H\r\n

 It should also be mentioned that the initial reporter of this issue,

 I neither claim that this is a bad sign nor that this is a good sign.

abduco is derived from dtach, which is licensed under GPLv2. However,
abduco is licensed under ISC with dtach's copyright notices removed.

While abduco may be considered a rewrite of dtach that just has similar
looking portions of code left in it,

Many people have reimplemented computer programs by rewriting them to
replace the source code with code of their own writing. There is no
reason to believe that this would not be a copyright infringement,
particularly if the reimplementer had access to the source code of the
original program, even if none of the original source code remains.

abduco should not be a part of Debian if it is violating dtach's
copyright and license.

Bug#759745: gdm3: Unable to login post-upgrade without systemd-sysv installed

Performed routine aptitude upgrade and had new version of gdm installed.
Shutdown laptop and upon restart was no longer presented with the login
greeter. Gnome environment would work by getting to shell and running
startx but was presented with a systemd-login error on the console shell
when logging in. Installed systemd-sysv which purged sysinit-core, rebooted
and the system was once again usable.

Suggest that there is a dependency not properly resolving in there to
ensure that systemd is running as PID 1.

Seriously, I don't mind where and how this is fixed. If you, as

No, it's not a threat. It's just the fact that this BTS ticket has 
absolutely nothing to do with python-paramiko package as it is 
python-bzrlib that put a Conflict in place. The problem with paramiko 
already has it's own ticket and it's being addressed by an upstream 
ticket already as well. The python-bzrlib made their package 
uninstallable on purpose and I can't do anything about that. Even when I 
get the fixed version of paramiko uploaded and available through the 
mirror network, python-bzrlib will still be uninstallable until it 
releases a new version removing the Conflict. In my opinion that only 
makes matters worse. Nothing I will do will affect python-bzrlib being 
installable. Therefore this ticket is a wontfix ticket as there is no 
cantfix tag.

This bug report is useless to paramiko as the Conflict/Build-Conflict 
is in python-bzrlib which I have absolutely no control of and if the 
maintainer has decided this route than even when I upload a new version 
of paramiko that addresses the underlying issue which is already 
reported as #750517 and has been forwarded to the paramiko upstream 
python-bzrlib will still be uninstallable until it uploads a new 
version. I'm therefore tagging as wontfix and will be closing it 
unless you want to re-assign it to python-bzrlib.

fixed package uploaded this evening when I'm back at home and can get my
DSA key out of my vault to sign it as apparently keymaster is having
trouble getting my new RSA key to be accepted.

I've been working on 1.12.2 even though 1.14.0 is released as well but
between
1.10 and 1.12 was fork, merge and change of upstream which has made the
process
as simple. Then complicated by still trying to get my new 4096 bit RSA
key into
the keyring and issues at work which have delayed my time to actually
work on it.

Attempt to help work within the packaging done within Git would have
been much more
helpful. As well I recall more than a couple tickets which looking
through would
have identified efforts being made before attempts to do a NMU without
having
first attempted contact with the maintainer of the package in question.

I guess I expect more of Debian Developers but this seems to be a
continuing trend
those that have joined the project within the past 3-5 years now. I
might suggest
going back to the Developers Corner and re-reading the content... Maybe
starting
with https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/pkgs.html#nmu

I began to make the move over to GitHub after repeated unreliability
with anonscm.d.o when I tried to access it in the past and because that

during one such outage and haven't bothered trying to keep it updated.
As soon as I release a new upload with the Vcs-* lines in debian/control
updated I'll get that repo removed.

Again this confusion would have easily been cleared up with an email
to the maintainer, who as you can tell does respond to them.

Now see if you had contacted the maintainer prior to performing the NMU 
upload you would have found out that your information was in fact 
flawed. BTS #690080 was to inform of the new upstream maintainer only a 
month ago and I've been in contact privately. Furthermore 1.9 was only 
released within the last week by said new upstream maintainer. That my 
friend is why you contact the maintainer and find out if assistance is 
in fact needed or else you're just mucking shit up and pissing the 
maintainer off considerably.

I read the bug traffic, and the latest maintainer activity was four
months ago.  That's usually a strong indicator that the package needs
help.

The RC issues were introduced by a previous NMU, the issues are 
resolved in
the new upstream release so as far as I'm concerned their wont-fix 
issues

in this version.


I understand that this was introduced by the prior nmu, and that's 
why

this nmu is reverting that broken one.


But as I'm turning the package over to you, do what you like.


You may as well orphan it so it can get cared for either by the QA
team or someone who really cares about it.

Typically one would contact the maintainer before doing an NMU which 
you failed to do. If you had you would have been informed that I'm 
waiting on the new upstream maintainer to make the release merging 
paramiko and it's fork that would fix most of the issues with the 
current code base the patches introduced by the last NMU improperly 
fixed and caused regressions.

I did this nmu to try to help make progress against the huge list of
rc issues we have in many packages.  I'm not that interested in this
one so much.

I would tend to agree with your assessment of the situation. I need to
go back and evaluate it all as I wasn't the one that added the patch, it
was done by an NMU without my involvement which is why I dislike NMUs
being done on my packages as they tend to introduce more issues than solve.

Any reason you felt that you couldn't actually follow the process I'd
already established to submit the patch to the VCS that the package is
maintained out of? I purposely put the package maintenance on
git.debian.org within collab-maint so that any DD could submit commits
for the package back. You obviously looked at the BTS so did you not
bother to check out the PTS and see it was in VCS?

Then please give me a hint on what I should fix. I can not reproduce this on
the only available Debian sparc box. It still builds fine in the sid chroot
on smetana.debian.org. What is the difference between smetana and the sparc

the sparc buildd is broken, I have seen that before when I was running m68k
buildds.  The only other explanation, in case the sparc buildd is not
broken, would be that the porter box is broken so that it produces working
packages. I think this is less likely.

I have uploaded a new version of gle-graphics and it fails to build with the
same problem on sparc:

However, when I build it on smetana, the only reachable sparc porter box, it
builds just fine in the sid chroot.  Thus, I can not reproduce your bug, is

smetana is broken, causing gle-graphics to build successfully. Or do you
have another explanation?

Hi. 

Having same problem here. Not opening another bug, since this is
alread reported; but this deserves the important tag because it is
now breaking other packages. I am however refraining from doing so
because I am no expert on packaging policy. 

This system is updated to experimental very frequently (2/3 times a
week); but this issue has appeared only today - with the last upgrade
3/4 days back.

Since this is breaking other packages, hope this will be taken as an
important bug.

Had not noticed what is going on, so do not have what exactly
transpired with the upgrade command. I suspect it is irrelevant

The bug report's original title and summary are incorrect. The source
package builds fine, at least locally in current sid sbuilds of amd64
